Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused, unreleased and unseen things in various games! In this video, we’re diving back into Mario Kart DS! I covered some Mario Kart DS prototypes in a previous video, but here we're tackling the final release! This game has lots of cool unused things from unused graphics to even some unused tracks left over.

The unused song that you mentioned, as far as I can tell, was actually the Wi-Fi lobby music from the days when the WFC still existed
I thought it was the customization menu where you picked your nickname and created your emblem. The wfc song was different.
@@braders5192 admittedly, the emblem music is similar, all of the two tracks are different. Also, I think the music you're referring to was the WFC setup music.
LOL. I remember my ye olde phone, which i got in 2011, IT USED **WFC** CONNECTION FOR WIFI.. I was online on its last evening, March 28, 2014, 7:32:09 PM
Im a wimmfi Mario kart DS player and i can confirm your wrong. The music isn't from the WFC menu, it sounds like a mix between that and the emblem editor theme

Japan doesn't have a letter L sound so they use the Japanese letter R sound as a replacement, so that's why it's called test-brock instead of test-block

5:18 this change was most likely made to make the kart's appearance line up with its stats, as most karts that are heavier, with better items, usually have those wheels.

Mario Kart Wii had a mission mode, but it got scrapped

Edit: I have been playing the Drawn to life series a lot recently and I think there might be some cool lost bits during development. (not to mention a cool floor-clipping bug)

In my opinion, Mario kart DS has some of the catchiest and most well composed music out of every game in the series. Super cool to hear the unused soundtracks in their full, uncompressed glory!

8:21-Luigis Main Kart was already finished at the time of the demos release. It replaced his early Standerd Kart as his Unlockable Kart was finish during kart modeling.

I remember when I was younger and I played Mario Kart DS for the first time with my friend and I was like “Why am I this thing??? (I had no idea what a shy guy was at the time lol)
2 inaccuracies I noticed
The Mario_Tree is not unused. You can see it lining GCN Luigi Circuit. There are some that are animated and some that aren’t and are behind the animated ones. In addition the “windows style” window is actually used in cross region local multiplayer. I got the Japanese cartridge and connected it to an American one. On the multiplayer menu on the top screen 3 windows appear explaining the modes.

10:37 Recently, I played Mario Kart DS on an emulator to try it out, I tried a flying code to go outside baby park to see the off-screen Paratroopa and it appears that the trails line up on the mini map and the 3d map too. Basically, the Paratroopa is the same distance away no matter where you look.
There IS an uncommon image format sometimes used in programming, in which string ASCII art gets loaded as a full color texture, but it's not efficient and is generally only used for absolutely tiny embeddable graphics like program icons.

This was more recently found out, but Piranha Plant Pipeline in Tour was originally a cut course from MK DS of all things. It also was one of the only Tour courses to not appear in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC.

That bit about the timetrial code is actually really awesome. It makes me pine for the days games couldn't reasonably get updated, so they needed to put everything in they ever thought they were going to need, even if they never ended up using it. Well, and make sure the game wasn't a buggy mess with a "fix it later" mentality.
You always cheer me up! My friend was “pranking” me today but was really mean doing it. She hit me hard saying “I mean friend not bestie.” I was pretty much crying my eyes out but your video cheered me up and I’m ok now!
(BTW you should do a Tomodachi Life list bits or Splatoon 2 lost bits.)

This entire video is just spot the difference and I love it.
It's actually pretty cool to see how some of the kart changes were made to save those extra few polygons since the DS can only draw 1024 onscreen at once before it starts to bug out. Stuff like switching waluigi's harley to only have 3 wheels saves a couple of polygons while also looking nicer
I always love seeing DS lost bits. I grew up with the DS so idk if it's nostalgia, but these games always interest me!

I've never thought of this but I feel like they could do a mariokart side more or something that's more like a free-roaming skate-park, shaped kinda like the test stage but actually a real stage. Plus with tricks now in the games they could do a lot of cool stuff with it, like combo counters or whatever, tony Hawk style. That'd be sick

1:37 actually, SSEQ_0005 was used for a loading screen in the demo, I seen it a video which could had been added and been cool, but your inference COULD Abe right but it was for a old loading screen
Shy guy was one of my favourite characters... Even though we had two copies of Mario Kart... I didn't use mine when I played with my brother.
This is very weird, but i remember somehow playing the circle track but with no textures when i was a kid on my copy before i lost it. From what i remember, i really did nothing weird in my fame, it just... loaded instead of the track that was meant to load.
Me: Well, i can't believe how many episodes do you make the lost bits?
