Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Lost Bits! Hey guys, welcome to LOST BITS! Where I will cover unused and unseen things in various games! In this video we again explore Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and have a look at various unused graphics, animations and even some unused zones! In this part second part I will cover the final releases of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the SEGA Game Gear, Master System and Genesis / Mega Drive! Something that he missed was that if you put a code on the sound test in the mobile Sonic 2, you can access Proto Palace, wich is the remake of the original Hidden Palace.

14:12 Did you know that It is actually possible to see the lava loop back. So I was playing the mobile version of sonic 2 and there is a little pocket to the right where an invincibility monitor is. If you just sit there and wait, eventually the lava will loop back to the bottom.

While the turtle buddy's walking animation isn't used, it CAN be seen with a bit of patience. There's these enemies before Flying Fortress appears. if you kill the badnik just right, the animal buddy will land on the flying fortress and will escape as normal. Some reason the collision data is retained on those animal buddies. I was able to do it a few times but the timing is a bit... iffy?

The ring placement, bridges, and a few object placements are the same in the final version of Hidden Palace Zone but the layout is from Oil Ocean Zone (this can be seen when using certain game enhancer codes to unscramble the graphics).

No, he was always dead. The canonical Timeline is Sonic 1 GG, In South Island and Then Sonic 2 GG, also on south island, and then Sonic 3 Genesis, where Tails is dead because in marble Garden boss, tails can fly forever, which he can't do.
yep. In the prototypes, Tails wasn't finished, thus causing that to happen.
that ring platform likely has the coding for a platform, but no graphic, and just like all sonic games, defaults to the ring graphic.
the looping lava is likely simply developer laziness, itd be harder to give the lava an accurate place to actually stop.

you get the same if you debug to get control back and run back to the boss fight room while the ship is exploding during the end sequence, but it really buggers the game over and all you can see is a glitchy mess.and oh yeah, this is the ultimate final boss because if you even get hit once, the game crashes.

I remember when I got Sonic 2 at launch and some months after, my brother brought me a print out from a BBS he went to detailing the cheat codes like level select and debug as well as Game Genie codes... for some reason, I never dabbled with Debug mode at the time. I think I might not have understood it's purpose clearly. Looks like I was missing out on some crazy hidden goodies. Still know the normal level select code through the sound test by heart though. 19, 65, 9, 17. It's Yuji Naka's birthday.

did you know that in the mobile port if you enter a code in the sound test (3 3 3, 0B, 10 10 10 and 4) you can be able to unlock proto palace zone (the beta version will be found if you enter the hidden palace stage in the level select) to finish the level, step on the emerald in the end (edit: the hidden palace icon is used in the 2013/IOS remake of sonic 2 in the level select)

The unused "pole" for wing fortress is actually used in the game and can be placed in debug mode.

This game has so much unused content I was inspired to make up a universe where all the unused content of the Sonic Games made it through and it turned into a world where the franchise was so successful that Sega rules the world.

To be clear, you can play the original hidden Palace in the Sonic 2 2013 version.
All you have to do is play 3, 3, 3, B, 10, 10, 10, 4 in the sound test. Then you’ll hear a ring sound.
Now just go to the hidden Palace slot, press go, and now you can play the original version of Hidden Palace.
I believe the Unused Tails crying sprite was gonna be where Tails thought it was Eggman and he was gonna torture him, but then he realizes it was Sonic rescuing him

Hidden palace Zone is in Sonic origins too. and in the playlist on Spotify it is called "Unused Zone" and plays the Hidden palace Zone Song.

Actually, Hidden Palace theme WAS used in the mobile version of Sonic 2 in a level called "Proto Palace". To access it you have to go into the level select and via sound test input certain numbers, that I sadly don't remember (just google it). The level itself is the Hidden Palace from the original Sonic 2 on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Nothing was altered in it if I remember. It also uses the unused Hidden Palace theme.

Correction: ID3 is Sand Shower, not Dust Hill. Dust Hill was Mystic Cave in Simon Wai Proto.
Mystic Cave 2P track is almost confirmed the real track for Hidden Palace. Protos used MC2P track and S2 Taxman version had permission from Sega to use Mystic Cave 2P track for the stage and Sega wanted faithful and respect with original works. I guess Hidden Palace is there cause was almost finished. Not like Taxman adding new stages for Sonic CD which don't make sense.

8:24 I think that was used for the cutscene after you defeated robotnic the rocket would've went vertical in the cutscene so tails with the tornado would never happened and then it was scraped(the rocket going vertical)
Fun fact: Use the unused sonic for Hidden Palace v.1. And use the ACTUAL Hidden Palace zone music to get Proto Palace, A prototype for the zone Hidden Palace. This zone uses the track 10 music.
