    I picked up my Ioniq 5 ( premium wad vision pack) this Monday and drove it 1100 km in lovely Norwegian winter weather 😅 I’m 194cm and about 90 kg, and this is the first car I’ve ever felt like “wow, this was made for tall people”. And it’s sooooooo spacious inside.

    • @ankor1979
      @ankor1979 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So what is the average range in winter?

  • @eckman69
    @eckman69 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    A bit off topic, but you cannot pick wrong when you choose the Ioniq5. I've had the privilege of "owning" the ioniq5 AWD for three months now and it's truly awesome in almost all aspects. Range on the highway is not exceptional, though, even at 115 kmh and in eco mode. But it charges so incredibly fast that it's not a big deal. The other minor issue I have is the intrusive "feedback" when you change lanes or go through a corner. Otherwise, I have never enjoyed an automobile as much as this one.

    • @dakotapahel-short3192
      @dakotapahel-short3192 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      turn off the lane assist if you're talking about physical feedback. I turned if off in my ioniq 6 & it is so much better to drive.
      if you're talking about the warning alarms, you can also turn those off in settings but i generally find those more helpful than a problem. i think you can adjust their volume though.

    I average 17.1 kWh/100km with 70% motorway driving and 30% city driving in a RWD Ioniq 5 after 3000km. Efficiency wise it's fantastic. Plus, it drives exceptionally well and you can easily 'play' with the tail when ascending a mountain :) ....and it looks stunning. Ioniq 5 all the way....

    • @germancomment2244
      @germancomment2244 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any efficiency tips? I'll get my ioniq 5 next week. 😀

    • @MrGeovio
      @MrGeovio ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@germancomment2244 Congrats for the choice! I'm pretty sure you'll love it, it's a fantastic vehicle. Efficiency-wise, I would suggest you avoid i-Pedal and stick to Auto Regen at its lowest setting. This way the car keeps regeneration to a minimum when not needed (e.g. highway) and automatically adjusts to higher regen levels when it detects slowing traffic in front of you or steep downhills! On the highway, if you want to stay as much efficient as you can keep the speeds below 110km/h (it's a bit hard with this car :) ) and prefer closed windows with A/C in air cabin circulation mode instead of opening windows at high speeds. The A/C consumption is lower than the aerodynamic penalty under these conditions. In city and country road driving, the car is super efficient without much effort, I have seen consumptions as low as 11 or 12 kWh/100km resulitng in 600km+ range. Again, congrats for the choice and remember to find a twisty mountain road and exit curves with a bit more acceleration. Smiles guaranteed :)

    Great comparison. I ordered the Ioniq 5 a few weeks ago. Mostly because exterior design. But Nissan's(in my case Infiniti's) bad history with software updates etc. had also a big impact on the decision.

      @Sharath Sunil dude you are delusional. After the French took over Nissan 20 years ago, it has been getting worse and worse, while Hyundai kept on getting better and better.

    • @The_Z_Force
      @The_Z_Force 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JohnLee-db9zt Dude you are the delusional one here. French never took over Nissan. Both companies have some stock papers of each other. If you are referring to the strategic partnership between Renault and Nissan, Mitsubishi is also a part of it, and it is neither a merger nor an acquisition. Renault is still French, and Nissan and Mitsubishi are pure Japanese. What 20 years are you talking about, btw? In the last 20 years, Nissan came up with the first SUV concept (Qashqai), and almost every car company and their grandmothers followed in their footsteps. Or maybe you are talking about the first EV (Leaf) mass-manufactured by Nissan even before Tesla? Or maybe you are talking about the Nissan GT-R, which can hands-down beat Ferraris and Lamborghinis, as you can see in countless videos here on TH-cam. When I look at the last 20 years of Nissan, I see nothing but innovation and inventions, Hyundai, on the other hand, is just meh.

    I've had a 2WD Ioniq 5 since March 2022 and done 8500 miles over which the car tells me it has averaged exactly 4.0 miles per kwh. I dont do many motorway journeys but even when I do I am amazed at how efficient the car is. Normally I get a little over 300 miles from a full charge in summer and about 250 in winter and I don't even have the eco pack! Loving it!

    I’ve owned an Ioniq 5 for 2.5 years now and IT IS PHENOMENAL!!! But… Boot shape is a massive flaw for me as is the driving position. I always seem to have a lump in my back even with the lumbar support recessed fully. Add to that the fact that the armrest in the door is at a completely different height to the central armrest and driving can be strained long distance. But… these are minor flaws for an otherwise sensational family car!!! Ps the load cover can slide behind the back seats.

      I was part of a study that compared these two (and several other) EVs. The Ionic 5 was clearly better in terms of space. The Ariya was better for some of the interior materials but it felt cramped, front and rear, especially compared to the Ionic 5. It was more in line with the Ford Mach E as far as space goes, but the Ford's interior was junk compared to the Nissan.

    What trims of the Ariya and Ioniq5 are you comparing?
    In the US, comparing similar range Ariya Evolve+ FWD and Ioniq5 SEL RWD, the Ariya Evolve+ FWD is more expensive at $50200 than the Ioniq5 SEL at $47500. However, the Ariya Evolve+ has power sunroof and shade, HUD, rear view & 360 camera, blindspot detection, power passenger seat, ... which are more expensive for the Ioniq5 SEL to upgrade - About $5000 more to get the Ioniq5 Limited RWD at $52600 to have similar features of the Ariya Evolve+ at $50200.

    The Ioniq battery is not modular, meaning if you damage it by hitting road debris you will have to replace the whole battery. This is a $50,000 dollar charge, not to mention the car being “totaled” by insurance and the resulting increase in your insurance premiums. Hyundai is doing their best to deflect when presented with this issue.

    Ariya was penalized for it's 10% higher price but in your X3 vs CX60 a 25% more expensive BMW's price was just written off and won. May be apple to oranges but a curious difference in treatment. Ariya looks more interesting to me as a holistic design. I do see why many prefer Ioniq 5. I actually like Genysis GV60 better than Ioniq 5. But that's even more expensive (25% more than Ioniq)

      Sure. The Ariya was the worse vehicle (not by far though) but is still more expensive. The Mazda CX60 is by far the worse vehicle than the X3, in so many respects. If I cant afford the extra price i d rather get a used X3 than a new CX60. Thats why the verdict. If you like the Ariya better that’s fine!

    not clear - if the efficiency of the Nissan is better and the battery is way larger - the overall distance possible with Nissan should have been way longer... as an example assuming bot consume 22KW/100Km - and nissan is 84KW battery - that should allow 381Km while IONIQ5 350Km. if the Nissan is only 5% more efficient ( say 21KW/100Km ) that should allow it to go 400Km instead of 381 - and though the diff between the Ioniq5 and Nissan will be way more visible 400 vs 350 ....

    A faster charge does not necessarily mean it is better. Some manufacturers limit the charging speed due to its effect on battery health and life in the long term.
    Nissan has way more experience than Hyundai on EVs. Aesthetically, Ariya has a futuristic and sporty, sleek exterior and interior design, while Ionic looks more like a modified golf rather than an SUV. In my past experience with combustible Hyundai cars, the interior plastics and parts always start making buzzing and creaky sounds after 1-2 years, which drives me crazy. I hope they have improved the overall montage quality for EVs. I would pick Ariya any day over Ionic. However, Ariya's price is a downside. It is within the price range of Model Y, which is proven to be in the premiere league in terms of software and hardware.

      @autogefuehl  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
      You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. They can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even from plant-based materials (like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum). Or the Polestar 3 e.g. is using pine oil. And even if you still create a leatherette seat the classic way with petroleum base without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is very little in comparison to how much oil is used for other car parts or how much oil is burned for fuel or heating. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en). So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
      A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensfin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html
      New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html
      More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/w-d-xo.html
      Another interesting article is here:
      www.collectivefashionjustice.org/articles/is-vegetable-tanned-leather-sustainable-lets-do-some-leather-myth-busting#:~:text=Often%20listed%20as%20a%20'pro,the%20method%20of%20tanning%20used.
      Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html
      For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
      Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
      Depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the first misuse case, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the priority use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down or even murdered on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?
      We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

    What I think: I'm glad I don't have to pick either one.
    I think the efficiency rating is horrible and presumed new EV designs would be closer to 4.0mph/kwh not 2.8mph/kwh. IMO, 2.8 is a WTF figure.
    Infotainment: What is with these complicated and often laggy systems being offered in these cars. I fail to understand why this is not a #1 priority in a new design. Referring to the Ariya infotainment as having a 90's feel is a pretty damning statement.
    New EV designs this expensive and large should have comfortable seating......absolute must and anything less is a Do Not Buy.
    Frankly, both cars seem to be works in progress and I'm not impressed!
    Once I set a temp in my 3, seat warming, circulation, are all automatic and change as conditions demand. I just assumed all new cars acted that way.....but apparently not.
    I'm not even sure what Apple Car Play is and I discontinued using Apple's overpriced products when they slowed my laptop down. Forced me to get a new computer.......never again will I buy Apple products.
    I get in my car, select my playlist from Tidal and that's it. What else do you need? I already have the best navigation system so I don't need access to Google maps.

    When it comes to upholstery, some may argue that animal-based materials like leather are superior to plastic-based options. While plastics can be a significant environmental concern, leather is often a byproduct of the meat industry, so throwing it away may not be the best solution.

      The thing is that high grade leather is not from cattle (meat) farms... Only low-level leather is. And we should stop eating meat too so the issue won't exist in the future

      @@autogefuehl In my sunny Florida climate, the longevity of animal skin interiors is far shorter than the other systems of a car. I’m old enough to remember the cheap vinyl interiors of American cars in the 60s and 70s- today’s vinyl materials are more supple (feel like leather) and incredibly more durable. They are superior, in every way, to animal skins (except for that “new leather” aroma!).

      All depends on the quality grade indeed. Good leatherette interiors are most durable, the most expensive ones are used for billion dollar luxury yachts
