    Thomas I really appreciated your 'off the cuff' discussion of driving technique in any modern EV. I have experienced mild car-sickness in both the passenger seat and the rear seat when an unaware driver was driving an EV (both times a Tesla) because of the instant power response and the deceleration from regenerative braking. As a long-time hybrid and EV driver, I have said that people need special instruction on how to drive these vehicles to maximize economy and smoothness. Spending months in Southern California I can tell you that most drivers have a driving technique that is not only wasteful in an ICE car but nausea-inducing in an EV. Accelerator, brake, accelerator, brake, on, off, on, off. You should consider doing a special segment just on how to drive an EV efficiently and smoothly. You're the expert. Cheers!

      @@Jupiter8Boy64 BMW only update and are afraid of change? Have you seen their latest crop of cars. Also the established Germans have more to lose if they make a bad decision. Relative newcomers with no heritage like Hyundai have a much freer rein to try something more experimental. Sadly all I see when I see this are a mish mash of the designers' favourite cars from their past. A bit of Fiat Ritmo, a bit of Golf 1, a bit of Avantime, perhaps even a touch of DeLorean. However the car has none of the elegance of a Giugiaro design and in the flesh it looks bloated and a bit squat. Much like teh sketches for the Austin Allegro and what came to fruition after the engineers had tinkered about with it.

Lots of positives but still no OTA updates, just usb for infotainment, and the winter mode with heat pump doesn’t pre heat the battery approaching a charger if set in the sat nav. Should be an option to pre warm battery for winter - summer charging was super fast. Also the US cars being launched soon are having 2 additional battery modules for another 5kWh.

      @@abraxastulammo9940 I guess you calculated with 22.8kWh/km and 4137.5km? Yeah, that makes sense, and I would guess that this car has probably been used mainly during October-December, which means low solar radiation = low power generation and low temperatures = high consumption, and probably for quite a few longer test drives = little time for recharging with solar. During the summer in e.g. southern California I would not be surprised if commuters doing 10-20 km per day with outdoor parking could do 50% of their daily driving with solar. But, curious how air conditioning would impact that figure, as leaving the car in the sun would naturally lead to higher air conditioning loads...

    I just received notice that my Ioniq5 AWD is scheduled for production coming Tuesday, and hopefully make its way over to Germany by mid January. I really can't wait anymore.. and all those favorable reviews drive my Vorfreude to yet unknown intensity. The only thing that bugged me is the little choice with colors.. most other Hyundai models offer some bright blue or red choices, only the Ioniq5 is limited to grayscale and weak pastels, so I will have to foil wrap mine when it arrives. Can't drive any car that isn't blue like the bavarian sky ;-)

      Much car and functions for the money. But a few things are very negative about it.
      No rear windscreen wiper blade, it gets so dirty on Swedish winter roads you never see out of it.

      in Germany they use a comma and not a period to separate decimals, so we don't know how much time it has been out and about, but let's do math. They say the solar roof will add 1240 miles per year to the car which is the estimate I found when searching online. So if you say you can get 259 miles on 77.4 KWh battery (awd), that means it would take the whole year to get 347KWh. If you divide that by 12 you get 28.96 KWh per month (this will be higher in the summer and lower in the winter). So that car would need to be outside for the last month roughly of November to get 19KWh. So it is possible it's 19KWh, which is very cool for a car

    I was really surprised when I saw the Ioniq 5 at a car dealer, this is one of the VERY few cars that actually look like a radical concept. I hope that this means their Vision 74 concept will, in one way or another, also be realized. Just sad that it will likely be a EV and not use their 2.0l engine and DCT; I own an i30N FL and the DCT is just incredible, aswell as the handling; far better than the Golf GTI and despite all that far cheaper with better warranty (and likely better reliability).

    I thought it was only me. I agree with the Tesla autopilot. I drove a model 3 round trip Las Vegas to LA and it works great. I drove also a model 3 round trip Frankfurt to Berlin and it was terrible. The system couldn't decide what to do. In the end I just used it to follow the car in front of me. I somehow get the feeling Tesla calibrates the system differently for the EU. I think this has to do with the higher average speeds and sharper corners with those speeds. In the US interstates they are more straight and slower average speeds.

    • @outsider_within
      @outsider_within 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tesla has actually been forced to nerf its autopilot in Europe due to EU legislation. If I remember correctly this happened in mid-2019. I had my model 3 before this and I felt the difference right away. The capabilities are still there in the software, and we're supposed to see updated legislation in 2022, but who knows with these things... Ghost braking is another matter, but for me this improved greatly a year or two ago. I haven't driven the new cars without radar though, so could be that that's what some reviewers of the Y are experiencing.

      Correct, it is nearly 20 kWh in total. Depends really on the country you live in if solar roof makes sense. Most likely in italy, spain, greece and so on it does make sense. Great Britain for example it does not. Panoramic roof would be a better option then or just save the money.

      I think Ioniq5 and EV6 are both good EV's. Exterior wise KIA EV6 is the more coventional looking. Most likely conservative people will like it more. Ioniq5 is retro style, at same time futuristic looking with more open interior space. If you want more the spaceship design where you are integrated in your command central rather than open loft design then go for EV6. It's not better or worse, just a matter of personal preference.

  • @Rick9482
    @Rick9482 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I thought that your video gives a proper review of this vehicle.
    Best features for me would be the looks, comfort and price. It's a real competitor in the EV market. It won't hurt Tesla sales a bit but just adds more choices to EV buyers.
    I've enjoyed my 3 LR for a year now and it's faster with superior software and is more efficient. The supercharger network takes it to another level of convenience. Instead of going to the gas station and getting gouged by big oil, I now do my food shopping while getting charged.
    I never had a car whose auto functions are so in sync with what I wish.
    The only disappointment is I don't get to use it enough cause I'm retired and life has slowed down considerably.
