  • In this video I take Honda's CB900 Custom on the road for this ride review.
    Part 1 • 1980 Honda CB900 Custo... Intro, history and overview of the CB900 Custom
    Part 3 • Honda CB900 Custom - ... Installation of EBC brake rotors on the CB900 Custom
    Check out all my classic motorcycle videos on my channel: Jon's Motorcycle Rescue and Review
    This bike is a recent rescue. This bike was purchased from the second owner and has 6k original miles. It only ran on choke when I bought it, the rotors were warped, the brake lines were shot, and once cleaned, the carburetors needed some fine-tuning to eliminate a lean surge from the stock jetting. The time spent on the carburetor tuning and installing new EBC brake rotors and pads with Spiegler brake lines really paid off!

    Hey Jon, for my pipe , I bought a "MAC" pipe, off of Ebay, > now again that was probably back in 2018, are they still in existence? Who knows,,,,,,, but it was louder, and better than the rotted out stock: 4 into 4.

      MAC is still around (I have MAC exhaust on two of my CB900Cs). For the same price though I would buy a Delkevic.

    I have almost the exact 900 with all of the fairings and hard bags.
    Question, at 70mph on the interstate, it can't get out of its own way. I'll even lose mph going up slight hills. Is this normal? Otherwise runs and drives amazing

    • @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
      @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't driven one with the fairing but it seems like it shouldn't be loosing speed going up hills or gutless on the highway. If it isn't engine related maybe a brake is hanging up?

  • @rodofsteel6662
    @rodofsteel6662 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Iv gone 100 on mine and after I removed the fairing and the wind was pretty nerve racking I wouldn’t recommend it.

      I'm sure lower bars and a bikini fairing would help... but being a hooligan simply isn't in the CB900C's nature. Taking it easy is how it's best enjoyed. 🙂

    I just bought this same exact bike a couple days ago. The brakes barely work. The carbs need a cleaning too I think. It won’t idle consistently. Anyway, what were those brake lines called again and how much were they? Stainless or rubber? Thanks. Any other tips or advice would be appreciated.

    • @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
      @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spiegler brake lines. I went with the black coated stainless lines so they look stock. Pricing, options, and instructions can be found on Speigler's web site. They were great to deal with and I use their products on many of my bikes.

    Is this bike a chain drive ?

  • @flexjay87
    @flexjay87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd be curious on how many RPM the bike runs in high range at 70 mph ?

    • @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
      @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      70 mph is 4800 rpm in 5th gear and high range. This feels high. Combined with no wind protection and an upright seating position, it is not comfortable for long at modern highway speeds. It helps to remember that the national speed limit was 55 mph in 1980. Up to 60 mph (4000 rpm) it is a real joy to ride!

      @@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538.. Did you have to re sync the carbs or did it idle ok... did you pull a spark plug after ... i know these bikes run lean, my plugs are white, but i am using the NKG iridium. last owner had the carbs rebuilt at a shop. I did not get any history when i got my 900 a year ago but i can see tell tale signs the engine has been out, scratch marks on the inner frame from the ex manifold studs...bet it was an exhaust valve ... 82 cb900c 51k

    • @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
      @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538  ปีที่แล้ว

      @uksparky I synchronized the carbs by eye after cleaning, and it runs, and idles fine. If you have the carbs off, I would recommend going up one size over stock on pilots and mid-range jets. Going up on the mids eliminates the need to shim the needles. If the bike idles well already, you shouldn't have to re-synch.
