Wiki: The Hispano Aviación HA-1109 and HA-1112 were license-built versions of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2 developed in Spain during and after WWII.
Its more a spain version of a G2 with a different engine
My grandfather restored this airplane. Proud.
Respect to History.
Greetings From Turkey.
Yup, 1112 Buchon was Merlin powered, never had a Kestrel engine. Early versions (1951) had Hispano-Suiza 12Z-89 fitted but the 1954 version had a Merlin.
I need to get out more.
Looking straight on, it looks like an early model P-40.
At the time, almost everyone had that characteristic aerodynamic line...
I love the Buchon. I don't care that it's not a "real" '109 (despite being an export model of the Bf109G!) with a Merlin strapped to the front - it looks absolutely fantastic!
Magnificent Airplane!
There's a couple of delicious ironies in the Me 109's history.
1. It was developed from the outstanding Me-108 "Taifun" utility plane which continued to be built in France as the Nord "Pengouin" and the Nord "Noralpha" well into the late sixties. Making the life span of the Taifun much longer than the plane which evolved from it.
2. When the Daimler DB-605 engine supplies dried up, the Spanish fitted Rolls Royce Merlin engines , which was the powerplant of the main adversaries of the Me-109: the Spitfire and the Hurricane.
3. One of the main post-war users of the Me-109 was ISRAEL! Using their messerschmitts against Egypotian Spitfires, making the circle of Me-109 against the Spitfire round again but this time the Messerschmitts wore stars of David instead of Swastikas.
Good to know !!!
i like the looks of the messerschmitt,
Spitfire + 109 = This
It was roughly the same cu. in. displacement and same no. of cylinders as the U.S-designed Wright R-2600 used in the Grumman Avenger, the SB2C Helldiver, Vultee Vengence, the A-20 and the B-25.
super Manöver, klasse Maschine :)
Yes and one can be viewed on static display (complete and in the markings or Gerhard Barkhorn, whether or not airworthy) in the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wrght-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton /Fairborn, OH. But to correct there is in fact one airworthy 109G in the UK that has the original German-made engine and till recently at least was being flown on a regular basis.
Die Veranstaltung war total geil und mit 109 und 190 im Verband hatte ich nu gar nicht gerechnet . Krieg ne Gänsehaut wenn ich nur dran denk ;-)
@donaniceto CASA doesn't mean House; they are the intials for "Construcciones Aeronauticas Sociedad Anonima". But when the HA1112 was built, this firm didn't exist yet. The Buchón was built by Hispano Aviación (HA).
The Kestrel powered the original Bf09 prototype. The Kestrel itself was succeeded by the Merlin, and used in the Spitfire, Hurricane, and Mustang. The Spanish acquired Merlins for these aircraft in the 1950s.
these aircraft were used to do the film "Battle of Britain"... playing the role of the Luftwaffe Bf 109...
Excellent footage... *****
Walter darf endlich wieder 109 fliegen :)
Listening to this and your FW 190 video both aircraft have a high pitched kind of whistling sound when they flyby. I remember this from watching the old movie Battle of Britain also. Do either aircraft have superchargers fitted? That may explain it.
If I´m not wrong, when the Spanish used the Buchon in service during the Sidi-Ifni (the Spanish Morocco) war in the 1950s, some of their main targets were... camels. Not the Sopwith Camel WWI biplane, but THE ANIMAL, actually, which seemed to be one of the means of transport of the Morocco army back then... And just to think that Buchones were armed even with rockets... I wish they repainted some Buchon in authentic Spanish markings and left it like that.
@warhawk40
Several already have and several more are being built. The three airworthy Me109G models all began as Buchon airframes that were combined with German parts. However, the German engines are very rare and expensive to buy and rebuild.
Whistle sound from barrels/gun ports, not supercharger. Supercharger frequency sound 4000-6000 Hz, gun ports frequency 1200-1300 Hz. In the original DB 605 engine, producing and mixed two sounds.
I believe you, Paddy. Everything I've read says the Buchons were fitted with Merlins.
Meine beste flugzeug
No, the last true airworthy Messerschmitt in Europe was the Bf109G-2 "Black 6", which overturned following a forced-landing back in 1997. It hasn't flown in over 15 years, and is now in the museum at RAF Hendon.
Three Buchons have been converted to fly on DB605 power, with another being rebuilt - all of these are in Germany.
Two Bf109Es were rebuilt and fly with original DB601s in the USA.
Das ist Musik!
And now he's a Bf-109 G-12
The planes they used to film the Battle of Britain with
Merlin engine? that's spitfire engine?
-sounds like Merlin engine-superb display
sounds life spitfire due to engine
Blimey, same engine as the Hawker Hind!!!
@lucicox
yes it is.
Is it just me, or did anyone else see the contrails off the prop tips from 2:03 to 2:10 ?? Must have been a slightly humid day.
It has a rolls Royce merlin engine
the me 109 with the rolls royce kestrel was a prototype from 1934
Yep. The only 109 that ever used a Kestrel was the first prototype in 1935.
Hieno ääni!!
Ugh.. Buchon's... hehe. Love a DB much more. But great video, thanks for sharing!
Mmm... I´m not sure. I may be wrong, but as far as I know painting kill marks on aircraft was not a common practice in the Spanish AF, not even during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39). Maybe some pilots did, but those must´ve been exceptional cases. And talking on kill marks on Spanish aircraft, it seems that a Spanish ace, onboard a "humble" He-112, shot down a P-38H Lightning flying over Spanish soil. Probably the pilot of the P-38 got lost, while he had to fly over France instead...
That's not an airplane, that's an engine with some extra stuff attached.
It's still a nice plane but the engine section doesn't look like a Bf-109 anymore.
Cessna at 1 o'clock!
i still think a Daimler Benz engines puffing sound is still better
awsome plane! it looks mean as fuck!
Just doesn't look or sound right for a Messer.
Exactly, it's a Buchon. It does not try to imitate a Bf109 - it is its own kind of plane with its own character and history part to it :)
It's illegal in Germany to display the swastika, where this was filmed. So they painted out the interconnecting areas in the middle of the swastika. Actually, this is a Spanish bastardization of the BF109- putting a Merlin engine into a BF109 airframe and not an ideal fit- so it was never really authentic in the first place. Still, if I had one, I'd paint it in Luftwaffe colors. And here in the states I could legally add a swastika. But I've read this plane is a booger to fly...
Ihr könnt die Maschine bestimmt mit weniger Lesitung fliegen oder? Also weil ja keine Bewaffnung mehr vorhanden ist.
Is it sponsored by Sun Microsystems? :p
actualy it is real its just a very early model it was used mostly by spain forces during ww2
swastika banned in germany....exhaust position gives it away as an RR engine :)
lol what have they done to the swastika in the rudder? Its not authentic anymore :(
0_o ... Abomination!!! Only Deinler Benz!
True German engineering
Splex is a Spanish plane and use merlin engine same than spitfire or hurricane
Why not? Especially in a ww2 era airplane its a piece of history and authenticy. Its not neo nazism or anything to have it there because its A PIECE OF HISTORY.
It's a Messerspit.
your all wrong the buchon had the rolls royce kestral engine it was produced before the merlin!!!
Very strange a sound from the spitfire and you see a 109
Did they keep score by painting little silhouette images of camels on the tail? You know, like the Australian AF uses the Kangaroo in its national insignia roundels? Wow. Didn't know about that little detail. Back to the bullfights...
y wud u put a Merlin in a 109, maybe cuz im all for originality, but its still like :(
14-cylinder BMW radial.
Spanish copy of a 109. Germany didn't have enough engines for its own demand so Spain looked somewhere else.
Warum sehe ich ein Bf109, aber höre ein Spitfire😂😂😂
BMW Juno engine!
merlin 500
***** in a german fighter plane from WW2??!
+Afghanen this is a spanish license build 109. They had no more daimler benz engines, so they used merlins which were available after the war.
***** Oh, i see.Thanks for the info
Bf 109-D?
Its sad theres no real BMW engines left :(
yeah...tell that our government ^^
Amazing what you can achieve in a neutral country! Perhaps 109 airframes and Merlins were readily available... a bit hard getting hold of the DB engines after the factories were bombed. The 109 is a difficult aeroplane, the wings are not enough for the weight, and crashes at takeoff and landing exceeded combat losses. The round tips look good but have an awful stall characteristic. The bulky cowling around the Merlin cannot have improved matters!
Still better than a 262 lol.
well this is not a bf 109, its also not a spitfire. although it looks more like a spitfire. the supercharger not being their is a dead give away. don't believe this kids. this is not accurate history
read the description
it’s a HA-1112 it’s the Spanish version with a Merlin engine
This being Buchon and not 109, it wasn't authentic in the first place :)
Engine from Spitfire...LOL
This thing cant match the BMW engine sound on the German counterpart... ^^
Original Me/Bf 109 had a DaimlerBenz 600 series engine. You're probably confused with the FW190, which had a BMW800 series radial engine.
Again...the disgrace on the tail....there should be a Swastika not 4 lines:(....at least they could have let it blank...
Doesnt sound that good to me.. Original one sounds like a beast.
It is a legal matter. The Swastika associated with the National Socialist Party and its reign has been prohibited. It is illegal to depict it in Germany and many other European countries following the genocide and tragedies in Europe in the late 1930's and the early to mid 1940's.
Read more about it on Wikipedia (Sorry, I were not allowed to upload the link)
Strafgesetzbuch section 86a
powered by a rolls-royce????? WTF
We can put mass murderer's faces like Mao and Stalin on a Tee-shirt, but a historically-accurate political emblem on a plane ? HECK NO
lefr33man no you can’t have anything to do with communism in russia
Daimler-Benz. Not Mercedes Benz.
Wrong war. Fokkers used Mercedes (sans Benz) in the 1914-1918 War.
Europe, Don't ask.
It's spitfite,bue....
Ugly convert it to a g series!
THIS IS NOT BF-109 :(
Buchon sucks. That is no real Bf109 anymore....
Why does it suck because its a flying piece of rare history? Or because it doesnt have the typical shiny, streamlined mustang look, or is it because it doesn't have the engine you like?
