Oher got deceived into signing a conservatorship unknowingly when he was young. They made him believe it was about adoption. It enabled the Tuohy to use his story, image and likeness in all sorts of things for profit, not just the movie.
They didn't want him to find out else they would have told him. He found out and is most lightly pissed that they deceived him & lied to him.

@@OJ90-in Oher’s first book, he directly mentions the Conservatorship and Oher seems to say the opposite of what Oher is saying now. “In 2011, when Michael Oher published his first memoir, ‘I Beat the Odds,’ he stated directly that the Tuohys secured a conservatorship when he was a senior in high school. He wrote that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy insisted that he maintain a relationship with his biological mother and 11 siblings. Oher wrote that his mother participated in the procedures necessary for the Tuohys to become conservators,”
The whole thing is a mess and it’s hard to know what’s true, I just find the fact that Oher directly mentioned in his own book that he knew about Conservatorship before and now claims he didn’t know about it suspicious, and Oher now releases a second book at the same time he announces a lawsuit, also suspicious.

This is a bit more complex than some whites who have a particular feeling & perception about black ppl.
The Tuohy's made Michael sign a conservatorship unknowingly, they had him believe it was about adoption. So they deceived him. The conservatorship enabled them to use his story image & likeness in all sorts of things for monetary gain, not just the movie. Even the 2 biological children gets royalties while Michael gets zilch for his own story, image & likeness.

They didn’t try and swindle the kid of money they were trying to help him out which they did.
