  • Sean Tuohy and his son, SJ, are speaking out about former NFL player Michael Oher’s legal petition, which alleges that the Tuohy family did not legally adopt him, but instead, tricked him into a conservatorship before making millions from his life story, which was depicted in the 2009 film, ‘The Blind Side.’

They are talking about thousands of dollars. The family is worth many many millions. Im betting Oher blew his football money and is trying to get a payday. If he had gone to them saying he needed money they might have given him 10 times more. Now, when he ends up getting 50 or 100k they should cut him out of their lives completely. He went to them and had told them if he didn’t get 15 million he was gonna sue them. The guy is broke and he is gonna end up with virtually nothing.

Not sure how they were blindsided? Especially since a conservatorship is made for mentally or physically incapacitated people- which Michael is neither. The also did not put up a bond (which even Brittany had) and also waived the person who would have explained everything to Michael since the conservators cant do that since due to vested interest (basically this is the person in Michaels corner ensuring he wanted to go through with the conservatorship and understood what he was signing away.

Wow, if Michael was really a part of their family, why isn't he on the board of directors of their family foundation, but their lawyer Debbie, who helped file the conservatorship is?
Why do they call him their son and not allow him to be a part of any inheritance? Why do they take speaking engagements advocating for adoption and promote it? Why is adoption a platform for them when they didn't actually adopt? Why did they never correct the countless interviews and stories that stated they adopted Michael? Adoption would grant someone rights in the even of inheritance.
I get that movie never actually said they adopted him. I get that their website never says they adopted him, but they definitely used this little white lie to their advantage to promote themselves in the name of charity. They used Michael's image, his name, his person. I am horrified. It's a lie by omission. They let everyone think Michael was adopted...as in full family rights. And they used that for their foundation, speaking engagements, clout in the community, a platform for adoption which they never did, and to sell t-shirts about how families don't have to match.
My gosh, this man has been through horrendous trauma and this family has no problem with the damage they have done in continuing to portray this image that they are some model adoption story.
If you never correct a lie, is it still a lie? Yep. Especially, when you use it to bank off of.

This case should go to court. A conservatorship lasting this long is ridiculous. Why did Michael take so long to figure out he is not adopted? Michael should get that conservatorship stopped. Why it wasn’t stopped sooner by the Tuohy’s and Michael is very odd. And he has every right to get a breakdown of where the monies went. It sounds like Michael has had hard feelings for a long while about everything and the family may have ignored his signals about this.

Michael clearly needed support at that time in his life. It is not at all clear that he would've been so successful in college or the pros without them.
In terms of the movie, when it came out Oher was in the pros and had his OWN agent. The Tuohy's hired a firm to negotiate with warner Bros. a cut and royalties from the movie on their behalf. Michael Oher and his agent had every right to do the same but chose not to. Is this the Tuohy's fault?
I agree that the whole conservatorship to this day is odd and that there's a definite issue with the communication if Michael believed he was adopted and the family tricked him into thinking so. But none of this is clear at this point. The lawsuit should clear things up.

Notice how the Touy's claim to have made $40,000 "over the past 4 or 5 years." The movie came out 20 years ago! They made millions! They're only quoting recent streaming payments. Look, the Touy's lied about him not knowing how to play football until Leann taught him the game (he was All State before they ever met), lied to Oher and the Public about the adoption, and lied that he was illiterate. The Touy's are the proven liars, and ALL their comments merit extreme scrutiny and suspicion.
Oher went to them PRIVATELY first, and offered them the chance to make things right OUT OF THE PUBLIC EYE. He asked them for his fair share of the profits from HIS story, and they told him to kick rocks. It's not a shakedown by Oher. It's a moral and likely legal failing on the part of the Touy's.

The parents are RIGHTFULLY SCREWED…they gave the illusion a conservatorship…
a conservators manages the person’s estate and finances. The duties of a conservator for a minor include the following:
protecting the estate until the child reaches adulthood…
prudently investing the estate as a reasonable investor would under the circumstances…
maintaining loyalty to the child while administering the estate…
    keeping records, including receipts
reporting to the court when needed…
A conservator could become legally liable for mismanaging the estate of the children. Mixing estate and personal assets could become grounds for removal by a court….they breached their fiduciary duty…they did things not “IN THE BEST INTEREST OF MR OHER”…they are screwed…they did it…it’s an easy case to prove…

So her 2 black children who are loved and cared for should have sat in an orphanage and waited for a black mother? You sound stupid. Sometimes when you go to adopt a child, the lawyers will tell you the majority of babies are of brown skin, maybe instead of slamming white woman for adopting black babies you should slam that more black women give up their babies. Just saying, facts are facts.

The family took him in and looked after him all the way through college. They never forced anything on him but only encouraged him.

The court might disagree. Michael is also requesting a jury trial. Even if they gave birth to him and raised him from an infancy that doesn’t mean for 19 years after that child becomes an adult they “owe” their parents and that parent can take money belonging to them. All Michael is requesting is to be released from the conservatorship and more importantly an accounting of every penny. As conservators they should be able to PROVE to the court what was done with all money received. That’s their responsibility and the law. If they stole his money they have TROUBLE.
