You can adopt an adult so they’re lying on that part. My bonus mom wanted to adopt me but I got married before we started the process.
Every state has their own set of rules, unless you live in the same state your statement may not be true.

Just an aside they were registered boosters for Ole Miss, and he ended up attending there so they got something for letting him live with them. Also, he attended the private school on scholarship before they met him and the Dad reached out before Oher met the son.
Also, Oher wanted to go pro before his senior year but couldn’t because they had him locked up with the conservatorship. So Oher missed out on perhaps $5 million and had to play another year for free with Old Miss. That was the point of the conservatorship, plus controlling the story. Was the free room and board with the Tuoghy’s worth $5 million plus royalties from his life story?

5:17 DJ Envy needs to do a little more digging he was almost there but he didn't hit the nail on the head, is a lot of things not true, the conservatorship is what allowed the family to sell the rights to the story in the first place because it allows them to sign off on contracts without him being there plus the movie in what real-life was is completely different he was already in that school already had prospects in scholarships waiting for him, but because that family was a booster family for Ole Miss which they actually mentioned in the movie they wanted him to come to the family's alma mater the University of Mississippi so that's why they took him in but he was already a star athlete when they found them matter fact they only know about them because their children and him went to the same school because of the uncle got him in there

In the movie it was said it wouldn't make sense to adopt because he turns 18 soon. She was out for brunch with her "friends" who were downing her for taking dude in.
Also in the movie, Michael goes to Mrs. Touhy and asks her for a favor. He wanted her to help him get a driver's license. Next scene, Mrs. Touhy at the DMV where the DMV is telling her they have no records of Michael. Next scene, Mrs. Touhy going to Michael's biological mother's house and asking her if she knows Michael's real name and if she has any legal papers for Michael like a birth certificate. Denise Oher says no. Next scene, the Touhy's ask Michael if he wanted to be member of the family. Michaels says "I thought I was already in the family". Sean Touhy says they would like to have "GUARDIANSHIP" (which is what a conservatorship provides). Next scene, Touhy's giving Michael a new truck!
The point here in these scenes tells how the conservatorship came about. It allowed the Touhy's to speak and deal with many legal issues this 18-year-old kid need to get down.

I live here in Memphis. Actually played against the Tuohy son in basketball. I don’t know what happened in the Tuohy/Oher situation but all I can say is that the Tuohy family had tens of millions of dollars before Michael went to the NFL. They didn’t need that NFL money at all.
You may be right about the Tuohy's being rich before they met Michael Oher but being Ole Miss legacies they had a stake in Oher playing for Ole Miss instead of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State or any other big name school.

He was already a top football prospect when they met him. He was already on his way to becoming player of the year. He was a 3 sport athlete but we would never know any of that based off that movie. They even portrayed him as illiterate and as if he couldn’t even read a playbook. The whole movie was basically saying he would be nothing without us which is far from reality. I think that’s the difference and plus he had no part in the writing of the movie.

They are lying, they had him sign a document he thought was an adoption. The judge, attorney and the family need to be investigated because they had him sign a conservatorship and he had no medical conditions to require one. There is a lot to unpack and explain and they need to explain.
Also conservatorships are not an alternative to adoption. They could have just been made power of attorney to him. He confirmed he was of sound mind and had no mental health issues...so why did they get sign off on this

The whole point of a conservatorship is that the "ward" is so mentally incapacitated that he is unable perform as an adult in society and must have the conservator serve as as his keeper and take care of all his legal affairs. Not just his money. ALL his legal affairs. If it requires a signature the conservator is the one who elects who signs or not. Here is where the grimy part comes in. The court should have never allowed this because he had no legal representation. The court was supposed to assign him a guardian ad litem. This is an attorney appointed by the court to children and the mentally retarded to assure that their best interests are being met. THE JUDGE IN THIS CASE WAIVED THAT RIGHT!!!! Leaving him with no lawyer.
