- Holy CRAP this is actually insane. This is some of the most harrowing and intense voice acting I've ever heard. Chat told me it took SIX HOURS to record these? You gotta understand how brutal it is mentally and physically to pour your soul over these lines.

Honestly the music by itself was kinda meh to me, but with Igon, and the actual roars and sound effects in the fight it is SUPER epic
Ingame he starts with the "CURSE YOU BAYLE" at the fight, but I love this variant of it. and yeah, his very first video game voice acting gig. Read an article with a quote of "Wait, you have "I've won, and I've lost' right after each other, is the script wrong?" "It's a video game, we need both a win and a fail line." "OH!"

The VA had an interview with ign. Apparently this is his first video game role and the first time he was exhausted after a recording session.
I hope he's proud.
He's not unfamiliar with the theatrics needed for a the role but again, he (Richard Lintern) is a stage performer by trade so you'd have to get used to putting EVERYTHING into the voice.

i tend to do summonless runs on my initial playthrough for personal challenge, but you bet your ass I summoned igon every time

It was so hard for me to find his summon sign the first time but it was well worth it. It got to the point where I used the mimic tear as a decoy until I found where it was

When you first did your reaction to Bayle's boss theme, you talked about how there was this visceral rage in the music and you talked about Bayle's rage, and I just giggled the whole time, cause this isn't Bayle's theme, it's Igon's.
Even better its both their theme. Both missing limbs and filled with rage, only difference is Bayle's nemesis is Placidusax.
It's both of their theme. Even Florissax says that Igon reminds her of Bayle, because they are one in the same: rage made flesh.
I had same feeling that it's not Bayle's theme. Something were off. And Bayle fought is not like monumental beast, but like scared and cornered one. Attacks were chaotic and desperate/
Which again relates to both Igon and Bayle. He has but one limb left from his battle with Placidussax. One leg. The other one and both his wings lie a bloody ruin.
This is the perfect drake warrior theme. The fight to devour the enemy's heart is a mix between might and fear. Each defeat feeding the rage to return the feeling
It's both as it mirrors the story of captain Ahab and Moby Dick. I love fromsoft so much especially for their weird inversions on classic tales.

I usually do a no summons on my first run, then my next play through I do whatever and have fun. I had to break my run to summon him. Did it make the fight easier, yes. Was it 1000% more epic with Igon, hell yes.

Igon isnt even that involved. He is just a guy that is really fucking mad and refuses to give up until he has exacted his revenge.
The lore is like 1/10th of the performance, its all in his voice actinf
I would be shocked if there is not eventually a mod where you can summon Igon for every Elden Ring boss (and perhaps for some of the older FromSoft titles, as well).
Maybe there's one already, I don't know.
@enutrofdude, i wished this was in the base game on the basis of him just yelling at each boss, and if they reacted to it, especially placidusax and other ancient dragon who just kinda trys avoid hitting him out of both repsect and geuine fear this man may actually eat their non existent hearts

I will no longer fight Bayle without this man. He just elevates the fight to another level when you summon him.
I haven't summoned a single time in my first pt of both base and sote, but when I met Igon I knew... I need him in my life every second he can be. Fight loses 80% coolness without Igon for sure.

the way he puts the pain into the annunciation of "haunt me no longer", *chefs kiss*
That's my favorite line of his dialogue, because I can feel the weight of fear being lifted from Igon's haggard, angst-crippled soul as he speaks those words, overcome by the culmination of anger as it turns into grief. 10/10 character building from that one line alone.

Igon calling his great arrows harpoons in the "hail of harpoons" line feels like the point where the game tells the player "and in case you didn't already catch on, this is a Moby Dick and Ahab homage."
Actual with Igon's Cookbook there is actual Communion Harpoons.

This was Richard Lintern's first video game VA role, but he has extensive experience in theater, TV, and other voice over roles. He is not a newbie by any means.

as if the fight wasn’t beyond incredible itself, but having this warrior of a man being summoned to aid you while shouting these amazing lines just really added to the atmosphere. it really solidified bayle as this gruesome, horrid monster, and it made it such an experience.
Igon was honestly the highlight of the DLC for me. His lines elevated the fight with Bayle so god damn much.
Oh! Im sure you'll hear Those United in a Common Cause with all of the NPC voice lines soon. It's Poetic.

@@tdthedevilsrighthand712 Obviously, it's the same author. With so many dragons and drakes in Elden Ring, it would have been weird for Martin not to make some references. I think it fits right in, the souls games are all full of references, self-references and recurring characters.

It's actually not the voice actors first role, it's his first role in a game specifically. He's done many different roles for the BBC.
I hope half the budget of the DLC went to that voice actor.

Bayle's theme without Igon's voicelines is like dancer of the boreal valley without the footsteps
the brightest stars truly do burn the fastest. Igon is the from soft character arc formula in the most condensed and concise way possible and it goes off the charts hard, while being 100% optional. And also Ahab and the White Whale analogies always makes great stuff too.
Igon, the Jagged Peak and Bayle, probably one of the coolest NPC interactions and set-pieces Fromsoft has cooked-up as of yet.

Igon has catapulted so high up the list of From VAs. I hope he comes back in future games. Meeting him each time was almost like a fever dream until the fight where he does this monologue. Easily my favorite voice experience in Elden Ring. IGN did an article with Lintern and it was actually a great read! What an absolute legend. The meme popularity is 100% justified

everyone talks about "CURSE YOU BAYLE!!!" , but in my opinion, that "Igon...piteous Igon...DON'T YOU REMEMBER!? CONJURE YOUR PAST!!! HOW ONCE YOU WERE!!! WHEN FEAR WAS YET FOREIGN TO YOUUUUU!!!!!!" , that is THE god tier voice acting and writing. The one thing Igon probably hates as much as Bayle is his own self; when his hate towards Bayle threatens to draw short , he draws more fuel from another source; his extremely toxic and destructive self loathing for being a coward when he first got wrecked by Bayle.

My favorite part is how the voice cracks. Igon was scared witless the whole time, but he pushed through with pure grit. VA delivered a masterful performance.

The VA for Igon did a fantastic job on his lines. He will now live on as a Legend, just like the famous NPCs before him
So someone pointed out to me that Igon and Bayle is inspired by Moby Dick. Igon being Captain Ahab and Bayle being his white whale which he has sworn his vengeance upon. I honestly can see it.
I've heard that he's referred to as "Ahab" in the files of the game, it's even more direct

For a game as notoriously "difficult" as Elden Ring, and for Shadow of the Erdtree being an optional purchase DLC of that game, and for having that DLC content locked behind about 75% of progression through the main game, and for not even being a main part of the DLC's overall plot, IGON has become one of the most iconic characters in recent gaming history.
I don't think I've witnessed such a phenomenon since Skyrim made "Fus Ro Dah" a big thing 13 years ago. Hats off to FromSoft and to the voice actor's terrific work.
Just the absolute stunned silence throughout it all shows how insane this is... Man poured his heart and soul into that voice and for all of the 15 minutes you interact with him he is forever etched into soulsborne history.

You know. On some level Igon's lines could also be Bayle's lines. Given He also lost his wings, a leg, etc and still has pieces of Placidusax impaled within him. His body must be in so much pain. I like to think Bayle and Igon were in a way. The same. Either way this really is the best version. Glad got to see your face upon hearing it!
The parallels between them aren't really an interpretation thing, it's a pretty important deliberate part of his character. Florissax even points it out herself.

Igon introduces you as a "True Drake Warrior", and despite the badass title, himself just saying that he is Igon has more power than any title he could have given you.
Imagine having him by your side every fight, not for damage but for the vibe he give me
The fight is already incredible but Igon elevated it to my favorite fight in the game

He put his SOUL into these few lines. You can hear early, he has his face in his hands and it's slightly muffled as he bemoans the maiming of his legs, and later on after defeating Bayle how he is so relieved it brings him to sobbing as he declares that the dragon will haunt him no more.
If this really is his first role, I'm excited to see him get picked up for future games and other voicework there's some genuine talent there. And mad props to the voice direction team as well. 6 hours well spent.
Igon is one of the few benevolent characters in Elden Ring that I feel like you can provide with a just end. He has his vengeance, and can pass on in peace. Experiencing it firsthand is inspiring
its the VAs first role in video games but he has done theatre and tv and ads for a long time so hes no amature. Personally i feel his experiance in Theatre would have really helped in this role
A 6-7 hour session, plus a follow up session. And he was never once told to tone down the emotion. They always asked for more. And he absolutely delivered.

I usually try not to use summons but i was really struggling with fighting Bayle so i tried summoning Igon, best decision ever dude. I just started laughing so hard at him just shit talking Bayle non stop through the entire fight 🤣 what a legend.

About the start that confused you so hard - dude basically tried to kill dragon alone and suffered incurable damage to his body so since he was dying after being thrown down the highest mountain in the game he did what any sane individual would do - he literally crawled back up the mountain dying and following us only to see us kill dragons and die right after asking us to summon his spirit to fight Bayle again on our side.
Man was too angry to die and after he finally died as his body could not hold him any longer was too angry to stay dead xd

I get it, now I get why even people who don't like summons summon Igon for the fight. Voice actor did a perfect job HOLY.
The fight is true cinema, the OST and Igons voice is just the cherry on top
It makes sense how much energy and how awesome the lines came out considering it took around 6 hours to get a couple minutes of dialog from the man. Each line must have had a couple dozen different takes. They really put in the effort for Igon and it shows. Really deserves all the love its getting.

Igon’s VA went UNBELIEVABLY hard and it’s amazing.
I love the monologue during the boss fight with Bayle, but the near maniacal laughter when you beat the jagged peak drake and how it pierced the chaos of the storm is so good. Igon finds a warrior who is fit to beat the Dragon of Dread, and in that moment he finds his warriors pride once again
I really hope his voice actor, Richard Lintern, gets more roles after this because god DAMN. Dudes got some insane talent

Richard Lintern(Igon's VA) delivers big time with his FIRST voice acting that I dont really mind if he appears in more future Fromsoftware Games albeit Armored Core or Souls Game or any other studios really.
