@@alinalisan3361 Igon and dragons. Aegon and dragons. Coincidence? I think not! It's plausible this storyline was written years ago, before the release of the base game. After all Bayle has a deep connection with Placidusax, which is part of the lore of thousands of years ago, which is part of the material George wrote. Maybe he didn't write Igon's dialogue, but could very well have been involved in the concepts of Bayle and some Ahab type character looking for revenge
Absolutely massive kudos to Richard Lintern for this amazing performance. It takes _a lot_ to completely steal the stage presence when your co-star is basically Dragon Satan, but he went and did exactly just that. Hope we'll see more of him in the future. 👏👏👏
@@victorprati7908 The first time I did this fight was with a greatbow too! I was freaking stoked to see Igon firing away at him! I was bummed to find out about the scaling of his greatbow though...
I think the amazing part about Igon is that alongside how much he hypes us up for this fight and helps us, we are also helping him. This is a quest for retribution, and when it's done we brought Igon's soul peace. It's literally as he says, his body is broken beyond repair but his spirit endures to fight with us. It's one of the most beautiful NPC questlines From has done and despite Igon dying it's a very happy and cathartic ending for his questline.
Agreed. Everyone likes to say how depressing most Souls NPCs are and how their questlines often end in a tragedy, but Igon (like Alexander for example) gets to go out with peace of mind, which is enough to make it a "good ending" to me.
There was a comment I saw that I fully agree with. With how a lot of NPC questlines end typically in fromsoft games, Igon and Ansbach have the two most legit "Good" endings to their quests. Both ultimately are about retribution and they both achieve it in the end with your help, and pass away with their souls at rest for doing what was right.
@@vermillion6159it’s the ending Igon would have wanted. And it’s the ends he’ll always get if I can help it. I will move demigods and outer gods to make it so.
The timing of many of the lines was well synced with the music, specially 'There is life in me yet", the laugh before the "piteous Igon" part and his final laugh. Also love how in the "piteous Igon" part you can tell he's pushing away his pain by putting on a mask of bravado and laughing louder and louder.
I think the way they built up Bayle and how he looks, his whole level, the jagged peaks, the closer you get to the summit the more intense the atmosphere and of course Igon, makes him the scariest boss in elden ring, maybe all of fromsoft's games. Even the way he shows up at the arena is terrifying!
I usually try to solo bosses without summons, but after a while I realized this boss was too frustrating to be fought alone so I decided to summon this guy, and BOY am I glad I did. Definitely feels like the way the boss is intended to be fought.
To be honest I'm still too proud to summon him. But I maked a compromise with myself : if I'm able to nearly defeat Bayle at least 2-3 times with a flask left ,than I'm sure I'm able to defeat him solo. This way I had it my way but I also wouldn't miss out this amazing NPC.
as far as I am concerned any summon who's sign is actively *inside* the boss arena, (Igon at Bayle, Hornsent and Jolan at Messmer, Thollier at the putrescent knight etc. .) are fair game, they are *meant* to be summoned as the fight is part of their character arc
@@jacobdoswalt yeah I only found out about Jolan recently, but I had Hornsent with me for the fight, not sure exactly where you need to talk to him to trigger it, but his sign was there for me
1:57 ngl it seems like Igon is on a brink of becoming mad. Btt seriously, I can't help but imagine him looking in his reflection in a small water pool in the mud, such an incredible delivery
It's crazy how Hornsent, the guy who is also entirely about wanting revenge on a boss, and even has mid-fight dialogue too, has so much less of an impact on people. That's the power of voice acting. Hornsent sounds angry. Igon sounds desperate, full of loathing, and absolutely insane. One of them feels like they could be anyone that desires revenge, and the other is Captain Ahab but dragons
Plus, we as the players are given information about Hornsent's people, how they in turn acted as monstrous as the war that killed his family; his revenge isn't righteous. It's petty, gratuituous violence. Plus, he turns on us as soon as we see Marika's grace guide us to Rauh. Safe to say the Hornsent just wants to kill and spill Erdtree faithful blood, while Igon is only set on avenging what Bayle did to him and Placidusax alike, and sticks with us until the bitter end. Two very different characters, but both very very well written.
Igon’s quest holds a special place in my heart for these lines alone. Another thing I like about this quest with Igon to slay Bayle is that towards the end we see how both Igon and Bayle are beings of pure, unadulterated hatred, clashing with intense fury. Just as much as Igon hates Bayle, the dragon hates him and the rest of his coven tenfold. The furious anger the soundtrack projects proves this to be true. In a way, both Igon and Bayle are the same. Bayle tried to slay Placidusax, was mortally wounded in the ensuing clash, and inevitably flew away to the shadowlands in fear of his demise. The same as Igon fell from the mountain in a clash with the mad dragon, terribly wounded both mentally and physically, and crawled just outside the grave plains. All on a quest to slay Bayle for his cult. The same cult that was invented purely to kill Bayle for his crimes. Igon is no dragon, yet he hates Bayle just as intensely as Bayle does Placidusax. Maybe this quest is a commentary on how hatred can only be followed by more hatred, no matter its origin. Or how man’s hatred can reach such extremes that it matches the temper of dragons Igon despises Bayle yet bears so much hatred, enough to match that of Bayle that he himself becomes the very thing he hates. Hatred born from anger can lead you to become the very thing you hate. Whatever the case, I have probably read to deeply into both. He’s just a dude trying to slay a dragon… what’s more metal than that?
he consumes dragon hearts and do dragon communion no? that means if he doesn't die he would eventually turn into a dragon like Bayle, seeting with as much hatred. He literally becomes the thing he hates, good thing he perished at the end of the it huh .
@@mauauauauaua14 He'd turn into wyrm, cursed to forewer crawl on his belly. Because how else would path to obtain strenght of dragons end, than with you becoming a dragon yourself?

I gave up on the dlc. I really wanted elden ring to be the first souls game I finally beat, but I gave up due to the difficulty spike at the start of the dlc. But hearing the absolute madlad Igon cackle in the face of his fear makes me feel some kind of resolve deep in my chest. Man was beaten into nothing, and still managed to find the strength to keep fighting, so I'll do the same
Just make a mad dash for some of the early scardutree fragments, that will help you a lot. I can understand if you don't like guides, but you could check a video to get the ones you can pick right away without going in to any legacy dungeon or advancing the story, with that you can easily reach lvl. 5 in like 10 minutes.
You can still farm runes in base game and get stronger, don't give up yet! Even it you go way over levelled it's fine. Get some more levels and upgrade your stuff, you can even summon and have a blast with coop. It's your journey, take it slow one step at a time you don't have to make it difficult and unenjoyable for yourself. Richard Lintern, British TV Actor. Apparently this was his first role in a video game
@@YOOT_JJBritish extras always end up being the best actors out there, I’m glad the localisation team of the FS always gives chances to actors like this instead of going with established ones of the industry. Not only does it save them money, but it also prevents repetition within the industry, gives smaller actors the spotlight, and gives us performances like this.
@@SalvageET i think because fromsoft world is fillled with a lot of minor characters with minor character arcs, so they could afford more risks. Like if Igon VA fumbled it then oh well , no big deal just another character . But when it hits right you have....results like this. With more major characters such as Sekiro Wolf that speaks from beginning to the end of the game i think they went with more established name...not like Sekiro needed a lot of performance with how emotionless he is hehe.

VA of the year ngl
I think the way they built up Bayle and how he looks, his whole level, the jagged peaks, the closer you get to the summit the more intense the atmosphere and of course Igon, makes him the scariest boss in elden ring, maybe all of fromsoft's games. Even the way he shows up at the arena is terrifying!
Crazy how well his dialog meshes well with Bayle's theme.
I usually try to solo bosses without summons, but after a while I realized this boss was too frustrating to be fought alone so I decided to summon this guy, and BOY am I glad I did. Definitely feels like the way the boss is intended to be fought.
Agreed

You hear these moans everytime you teleport to the site of grace near him. He is surrounded by messages suggesting masturbation.
His entire quote during Bayle's fight is just pure unadulterated motivation and meme material
1:00 literal goosebumps, really seems like this is more a theme for Igon than for bayle
Igon’s switch from wailing in agony to screaming with pure avarice when we first encounter sold me on this guy. One of my favorite Elden Ring NPCs
1:46 the moment the villain reveals his master plan
It's crazy how Hornsent, the guy who is also entirely about wanting revenge on a boss, and even has mid-fight dialogue too, has so much less of an impact on people. That's the power of voice acting. Hornsent sounds angry. Igon sounds desperate, full of loathing, and absolutely insane. One of them feels like they could be anyone that desires revenge, and the other is Captain Ahab but dragons
Well VA and dialogue are just on an other level and igon doesnt invade you like a lil cunt After you helped him achieve his goal

I love that Igons weapon art is just fucking screaming while you shoot the bow
Or how man’s hatred can reach such extremes that it matches the temper of dragons
Igon despises Bayle yet bears so much hatred, enough to match that of Bayle that he himself becomes the very thing he hates.
Hatred born from anger can lead you to become the very thing you hate.
Whatever the case, I have probably read to deeply into both. He’s just a dude trying to slay a dragon…
what’s more metal than that?
he consumes dragon hearts and do dragon communion no? that means if he doesn't die he would eventually turn into a dragon like Bayle, seeting with as much hatred. He literally becomes the thing he hates, good thing he perished at the end of the it huh .
