Hey Marco, i have a suggestion! When uploading these videos, you could append "feat. [Guest's name]" at the end of the title! This would have multiple benefits, it would help people who are associated with your guests, like friends and family, find these videos, and it would help people who are interested in finding an episode with a specific guest again to do so. Of course, you would have to check with your guests wether they are okay with being featured in the title, though.
That'd be great. She's honestly a precious gem, even participating with the Team Fortress 2 voice actors to be the Administrator in their recent banger of a song: The Sandvich blues.
Last week I went to the - Paris - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth concert. I brought my father who just LOVES classical music, it's what he has been listening to since he was young, probably because it's what his father was listening to as well ? He was surprised when he saw Orchestre Colonne would be playing with a choir (apparently the best or 2nd best french private orchestra ? Why would an orchestra with such a reputation play this ?). He also already knew and played To Zanarkand and he already heard about Nobuo Uematsu from me, but he never got deeper than that. He loved the concert, and was surprised when some cosplayer showed up. But then people went "Ooooh !" when they announced what the next piece would be and there was a standing ovation at the end, he was not expecting people to be this invested in classical music! He probably didn't think modern classical music could be this loved by young people. After that he asked me questions about the franchise, I think he might finally get into it x) I'm glad people are acknowledging how powerful the emotions and memories that are tied to this music are. By the way the concert was full, all seating taken, the room had 3.5k seats. The 2nd representation that night was full as well, so 7k+ people experienced live FF7 music that day !
That's awesome. The closest my parents ever got was my mother chancing upon a Hans Zimmer Song from Call of Duty on the local "Culture" Radio. By no means lesser, but Zimmer's work on CoD is very much programmatic.
I saw the thumbnail and was like "OMG IS THAT CHRISTINE????!!!!" and go SOOOO excited! I remember first hearing her iirc singing "O Don Fatale" in a concert back in Chicago, and immediately fell in love with her artistry; so cool to see this!
Ludwig is absolutely peak video game music design. So insanely intricate throughout the song, and that second phase transition (in the song and in game lol) never gets old. Saved me from having more of a headache trying to kill this guy for the first time in ng+.
I'd never seen that video of One-Winged Angel before! What an incredible performance! The musicians look SO into it, I love the energy of the whole thing. My favorite version of the song is still the Advent Children one with the electric guitar, but this is amazing on its own AND really well-mixed. It's less overwhelming and you can hear every individual instrument doing its part. So awesome!
One of my favorite episodes! It was really fun to hear the perspectives of essentially three different generations on the same musical piece. I think it would be really cool to do more of this kinda stuff. I know you can't do XIV on every video, it would get old fast, but I can't help but hope for some Soken bangers XD
I've heard one winged angel a number of times on this channel, but I really appreciated the orchestral piece you chose for this one. I hadn't heard it before, and it felt quite fresh to listen to. Loved their rendition of it.
I've never been a huge fan of the rendition of One Winged Angel you showed. Its not bad, but not having the higher tones for the choir really takes out a lot of unsettling feelings from the track, in addition to the whole Jenova is his "mother" and a space calamity set on destroying the world.
That's the first time I've heard this version, and it does feel somewhat lacking. For example, it doesn't have the descending bass notes right after the "Sephiroth!" lines starting at 43:58 (probably by a tuba), I had to play them in my head. But I guess it's understandable Marco doesn't want to play the same couple of versions over and over in every such video.
"You know one winged angel... you know we should play that... actually I am playing that now" between the funny story and parental interaction before that and this free form fun "we'll do it live" vibe was so funny to me.
Man, you should've shown them GRIS Pt.2. GRIS is about a woman's grief after losing her mother and in the climax of the game where GRIS Pt.2 plays is when she is finally, through all the grief, is able to hear her mother's voice again and it helps her pick up all her pieces and move on. It would've been interesting to show that to these two.
This was a great video. I wholeheartedly agree with your belief in pushing for some sort of mixed programming to draw the parallels and provide the context for live performances with video game music. On that note. Perhaps you can even give some clues for those in your audience and throughout the internet, and maybe some concert hall managers, by doing some videos comparing classical/opera pieces with game music that have a good fit or might feel good together? Essentially even something like a 30 min concert that you curate and present either to a guest or just to the viewer? But I digress... This was a great interview and a fun video. ^_^
You've reacted to League songs, ever consider reacting to some arcane songs? could capitalize on it's popularity and make a banger video with the new season coming out ;) (the songs have such emotional weight that I feel you could talk about them for hours)
It was nice to get so many perspectives this time. Great choice, you tracks to play as well. I know if they had soulsborne music in a concert hall, I'd drive 4 hours to see it.
Loved the vid and then got to the point where Marco basically said he wouldn’t play Omori 😭 still loved the vid but definitely wasn’t expecting heartbreak
He's wearing a Warframe shirt! Speaking of which, I wish he'd shown them the Duviri Paradox or even Tenebre Rosso Sangue. Other than that though, great video as always, Marco!
It's sad that there is still gate keeping in gaming to such a degree that Max feels she can't just say 'yes, I'm a gamer' but qualifies it. Max, you have game art on your walls, you play games, you are a gamer :)
1:41:01 laughs in Nikke: “I feel so alive” as the gods damned Cash Shop theme. Yeah, they got the memo. Get people in the mood to spend money and they will
"For a musician, the SNES sound engine is like an artist using Crayola crayons. Nobuo Uematsu used Crayola crayons to paint the Sistine Chapel." - Jeremy Jahns
I know you have a list Marco but I’d love more Halo music, and more Warhammer music from Darktide, the theme music of Space Marine 1 and 2, Children of the Omissiah. More FF 14 trial music.
How can I better connect to classical music? I have the impression that this channel is, among other goals, trying to bridge the gap between modern orchestral music and an appreciation for classical music, so I have started to listen to classical music like from vivaldi or bach. I love video game music, and I resonate so strongly with some modern orchestral works like from Ryuichi Sakamoto or Hans Zimmer. However, when I listen to 19th century classical music or earlier, it doesn't ignite the same reaction in me. I feel like I'm immature in my musical tastes and not understanding what I'm listening to. What kind of mindset or perspective or actions would you recommend for me to better connect with older orchestral works?
There's no problem if you don't like or get Classical Music, not everyone likes the same, one of the main reasons OST work for you is that you link the music with the context of the game so is easier to "get it", i mean i love Black Metal and for me is like one of the best genres that is there becaus eof how versatile it can be and that you can show every emotion possible in the genre, but i undertand why people don't get it because not everyone will like it, so no worries if you don't like Classical Music, but i believe that if you can make some classical sogs tp conect with something like i dunno, this song makes you feel like when you were driving home and it was raining i belive you could enjoy more, you just need to find the correct songs.
Like any music just listen to stuff and figure out what you like, it's not a competition and it doesn't matter what other people are into if you aren't. Not that you need to count things out, maybe going back once you're more familiar will bring a new perspective. One listening "tip" I guess, try to truly listen to what is going on in each individual part. It's something you have to practice a bit, but you can do it it with any music. Also check out reverie nocturne by giulio regondi
I'll echo what the other two replies said and say that yeah, it's alright if you don't get into it. I guess the question is, what resonates with you about modern pieces by the composers you mentioned? Melodies, harmonies, instruments used, overall vibe? Those are just a few suggestions, but whatever your answer is can help you with exploring more music. Vivaldi is a great starting point in my opinion. His music is usually super energetic, fast paced, and straight to the point. Bach a little less so, he's a bit more calculated about things like melodies and how they interact with each other in a given piece, but still great of course. I assume you know this already, but classical is a genre that spans hundreds of years. There are tons of sub-genres within each century, and even within decades. Part of enjoying and understanding classical is just listening to a lot of it to find your niche. You might also find it interesting to understand the historical context behind certain pieces or time periods. VGM and movie scores have clear context, classical often does not. Have Sakamoto and Zimmer ever mentioned their classical influences? If they have, listen to what they like, and maybe even try to pick out what they liked enough to use in their own music.
Older music tends to take its time and play with high concepts a bit too much. You need to learn how to listen, if you want to get the best experience. I find that programmatic music that tells a story is a bit more approachable than abstract sonatas. I would suggest trying to listen to Johannes-Passion by Bach. It follows the Passion of Christ directly from the gospel, so you can anticipate the story and appreciate the emotional depth in the music. The opening chorus Herr Unser Herrscher is an absolute treat of buildup and suspense.
Man Bloodborne music doesn't get old, especially this one. Have you listened to all of them ? I know there are some I don't remember you covering on your channel like The Witches of Hemwick OST or The One Reborn OST. Also it is so great to see new faces from a world so far away from mine (and yet so close) having a blast discovering and enjoying video game musics. This would have been inconceivable back when I was a kid 20 years ago, game music has come a long way since then. It would seem I have a taste for opera I am not aware of, is there a piece you'd recommand to get into it ?
I think you should take a look at Wolfenstein: The New Order's OST. It's phenomenal and I'd argue is better work than Doom's. Much more stuff to chew on than just "NOISE!" Also has an awesome almost folky style guitar mixed in with the other electronic and metal and stuff. Ransacked, I Learned How To Fly, The Kreisau Circle and others are phenomenal.
marco please in any video showing music to someone you need to show Su beso de plata redux from carlos viola its a stuning song from blasphemous and is perfet to show how videogame music have the same level as music
1:38:35 she should check Slaughter to Prevail's Demolisher. There's a bit where everyone gets quiet and the singer belts out an amazing guttural scream without a microphone. I've heard that live the people in the front row can FEEL his voice
I'd love marco play some cyberpunk music aswell and mention the anime aswell. But the copyright is very tricky because in a way it's attached to 2 different things
Ludwigs music is not only the rot and grotesque decay for me, it's the fact of who he was meant to be. He was our saviour and this is what he has become instead, he fell further than perhaps anyone else....that decay is horrifying to watch and more importantly hear.
Since the last time you reacted to the Deepwoken OST there have been a few more amazing songs created by the man himself, Naktigonis! It would be really cool to see you react to these new pieces and I know you’ll be blown away!
I got the Shivers and Teary Eyes when Marco mentioned Kainé Salvation, not even put the music. Nier music makes me feel so much without even listening to it.
If peole who don't know much about the doom music and how mick gordon got it together. I suggest watching behin the music doom 2016. A 2 part videowhere he explains a lot of the process in making the tracks.
Nice video, i wish you would have people react to "Thaemine Time of the end" and "Poem of the end" from lost ark, also opera-like, im sure you would like it (both have live performances)
I didn't think you looked like human shrek until you said so but now I can't unsee it. I started watching this channel when you showed up shaved more often so I never really thought anything of it until you said something 🤣
Dang it, wanted to try So Let Us Melt after watching this, and it was a _Google Daydream_ exclusive. Ugh. A game tied to a dead platform. I actually have the Daydream headset and controller buried somewhere, but Google actually broke compatibility on newer Android versions, and my old Daydream compatible phone was updated, removing support. Game was never ported to another platform.
Marco! Bro! People who are fans of opera and classical go become metal bands. It's a lower barrier to entry. You should go sing with a metal band. Get drunk have fun do some live shows use your channel to promote it'll be fun. Who knows, you could end up on a video game soundtrack. That's also a thing that happens - metal singers becoming voice actors.
Hey Marco ! I know it's not your thing, but i would really appreciate if you could check out some of Farya Faraji's pieces. It's not video game musics, but the quality is really good. Not asking you to make a video or anything, just wanted to give you a few pieces that are highly appreciated by his community :) Boulgaroktonos Belisarius Kol Dodi Narses the Armenian Jarnana There are other great compositions (or interpretations) of him that i like, such as the Justinian Symphony, but i doubt that you would listen to a two hours long symphony X)
I wish Marco would play other Doom soundtracks and not "the only thing they dear is you" every time. There are many more interesting and imo better ones. Like there's some great DLC soundtracks like "Immora" which might be the craziest Doom soundtrack ever
I personally will always shout out Vega Core is a brilliant use of melodic bass. It is a wall of sound that still feels so raw and powerful without just being loud

Ya'll should've Included something from Warframe smh my head my head
I would love to see marco interview Ellen McLain (GLaDOS voice actress) since she has a background on opera, that could be a cool video honestly.
Great idea
100% this
That'd be great. She's honestly a precious gem, even participating with the Team Fortress 2 voice actors to be the Administrator in their recent banger of a song: The Sandvich blues.
Weve all known it before now but i dont think its brought up much. You clean up well Marco. That fresh shave lookin nice for the ad read
hahaha aw thank you.

This is such a wholesome one, from the mix of genuine excitement and genuine mom-barrassment.
I LOVE Christine's energy! She needs to come back.
ok I have to say that the ad is very on point like it fits very well with marco to the point that it doesn't feel like an ad at all.
That’s awesome thank you I really like manscaped and I have used their stuff for like a year now.
You need to have them on again, they are great. And you need to show them dancing mad.
I'd never seen that video of One-Winged Angel before! What an incredible performance! The musicians look SO into it, I love the energy of the whole thing. If you wanna hear a fun rendition of One winged Angel, someone on TH-cam here did a cover in the style of Doom. It's a good one imo
Christine and Max were a great duo! And you have an amazing selection of music as well!
It does not matter how many time i'm hearring astralgia of phantasm, i always have extreme chills.
I LOVE Christine Goerke, and this video is EVERYTHING.
Love the vid Marco, always a joy to have such great guests
Glad you enjoyed it
Yay! I finally know like 3, closer to 2, of the songs.
VINDICATION!!!
Those two are awesome!! Hope to see them in another video in the future!
Patiently waiting to see Midra the lord of frenzied flame on the chapter list
Never tire of people geeking over Ludwig The Holy Blade. Utter Perfection.
Great long video! So much in this one! Love Christine and her insights, as well as Mags with context and genuine intuition. Love it!
I've never been a huge fan of the rendition of One Winged Angel you showed. Its not bad, but not having the higher tones for the choir really takes out a lot of unsettling feelings from the track, in addition to the whole Jenova is his "mother" and a space calamity set on destroying the world.

Thats the Grassini one?
The conductor in Astalgia of Phantasm is the best part. That is a man who loves his job.
"You know one winged angel... you know we should play that... actually I am playing that now" between the funny story and parental interaction before that and this free form fun "we'll do it live" vibe was so funny to me.
"Its a game about fighter jets how good can the music be
oh"
everyone getting introduced to ace combat music
This was great! Would be awesome to have them both back again
man this lost ark music always gives me the chill, the raid was sooooo wholesome when it came out
Awesome vod as always ! I love how we all pull that one face everytime we hear something so nastily good it's that "hngh this hits just right".
The official shadow of the erdtree OST was released and I can’t beliebe how much better it sounds
Do you mean the gameplay reveal trailer music?
@@SjiekeGast No, i think he meant the officiall version has better sound quality than the in-game encoding and such.
Ah I see. Thanks for the reply! 👍
But I digress... This was a great interview and a fun video. ^_^
This was so much fun! Definitely would love more guest content with them 🙏
You've reacted to League songs, ever consider reacting to some arcane songs?
could capitalize on it's popularity and make a banger video with the new season coming out ;)
(the songs have such emotional weight that I feel you could talk about them for hours)
oh man, Maxor captures it best about "Ludwig, the holy blade" and i quote "I AM ALIVE."
Another fantastic episode and a really long one, which is great!
I heard Goerke in Atlanta this year! She was good
La Goerke is amazing
Real talk you need to assemble your Avengers and start busting out covers for some of these songs. You know way to many insanely cool people XD
It was nice to get so many perspectives this time. Great choice, you tracks to play as well. I know if they had soulsborne music in a concert hall, I'd drive 4 hours to see it.
I love her excitement about one winged angel and the other final fantasy things!!!
oh hey. I sang in the Carmina Burana in a 200 man choir in college. Awesome experience.
Ah, Lappy. To this day I am happy that their music managed to become official. I imagine Lappy was in the clouds when it happened.
1:30:34 Don't worry Marco. I'm a 35 year old man just enjoying your content
Keep up the great work! :)
One Winged Angel FOREVER! i never get tired of its one of my all time top 3 themes in general
someone PLEASE gift Max both FF7 original and remake/rebirth. she NEEDS to experience that diamond of a game
Marco if you didn't listen to it on stream this week please listen to Overture For A New World from Iron Harvest.
If you ever want to pivot AWAY from Unsung War, you could go for "The Journey Home" from the Sea of Chaos Mission.
Loved the vid and then got to the point where Marco basically said he wouldn’t play Omori 😭 still loved the vid but definitely wasn’t expecting heartbreak
Amasing convo and video :)

SUGGESTION: How about bring your guests back to react to anime music next time
marco please in any video showing music to someone you need to show Su beso de plata redux from carlos viola its a stuning song from blasphemous and is perfet to show how videogame music have the same level as music
Ahhh, can't believe you didn't show Christine Signora's theme!!
It's amusing to me that the episode that's featuring a pair of lovely ladies, who were amazing guests btw, is also the one sponsored by MANscape lol

as much as i like zeldas lullaby, after doing the water temple multiple times in ocarina of time i cant listen to it anymore 😭
It's awesome of Mick Gordon to give everyone that purchases his albums a free game, it's a shame that Bethesda screwed him over.
Love these man!! More Destiny music! ❤
1:51:00 I love her
Nice video, i wish you would have people react to "Thaemine Time of the end" and "Poem of the end" from lost ark, also opera-like, im sure you would like it (both have live performances)
Didn't u uploaded a video about wuwa recently? I was just about to watch it but now I can't find it 🥺
1:06:12 😭noooo, its not the clip in the elevator, with turrets
OOT will always be number one.
I didn't think you looked like human shrek until you said so but now I can't unsee it. I started watching this channel when you showed up shaved more often so I never really thought anything of it until you said something 🤣
HHahahhaha
Dang it, wanted to try So Let Us Melt after watching this, and it was a _Google Daydream_ exclusive. Ugh. A game tied to a dead platform. I actually have the Daydream headset and controller buried somewhere, but Google actually broke compatibility on newer Android versions, and my old Daydream compatible phone was updated, removing support. Game was never ported to another platform.
thx for considering lostark ^^
this was so heartwarming in a way lol
Marco!
Der Hexkonig 👀
what a cool mom
Nier got to be in my top 3 favorites ost ever.
Hey Marco ! I know it's not your thing, but i would really appreciate if you could check out some of Farya Faraji's pieces. It's not video game musics, but the quality is really good. Not asking you to make a video or anything, just wanted to give you a few pieces that are highly appreciated by his community :)
Boulgaroktonos
Belisarius
Kol Dodi
Narses the Armenian
Jarnana
There are other great compositions (or interpretations) of him that i like, such as the Justinian Symphony, but i doubt that you would listen to a two hours long symphony X)
I would love to see you react to the Tristram Theme from the Diablo series, it's my favorite piece of music from a game by a mile!!!
Hey Marco, currently crying after reading the lyrics to some of the Arcane season 2 soundtrack(im a softie). Any chance we'll see you listen to those?
I buy a PlayStation just for Ace Combat and Grand Turismo. I'm still waiting for that new Ace Combat SONY to buy a PS5!
Never seen that rendition of one winged angel. Anyone know how i can find it?
I still hate how the video Marco uses for Ludwig doesnt time the transition in the fight to the transition in the music
I’ll tell my editor you hate him 😉
as an eightenn year old, yeah. here i am.
It is a wall of sound that still feels so raw and powerful without just being loud
the DLC music is so underrated! blood swamps might be one of my favourite in the whole game
@normalmixo that's my least favourite honestly
I really want to know about your thoughts regarding the Hymn of the false God (bloodborne)
You missed the chance to play the Moebius theme.
Please can you list the theme "NATLAN" from genshin impact natlan live sympony
