    After hours of side-by side testing, taking screenshots to see visual differences and measuring performance, I did a Steam guide for WRC 10's graphics settings, as there's a few settings that eat a DOZEN fps for no reason at all, probably due to poor programming.
    Texture filtering eats tons of frames, and it shouldn't, as it's a near-zero impact setting in all other games, labelled as "anisotropic filtering".
    Reflections eat a ton of frames too, but it makes much more sense there.

      Hi, I know what you mean WRC 10 has bad settings. I was able to quite fix fps issues by disabling the game's post-processing filter, as that's what makes it consume fps like a locomotive. I am dedicated to applying reshade to all games to give it more immersion. So if you want, try the one I did for WRC10 and see if it improves your experience. th-cam.com/video/gH3NhQDKy_s/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ULTRAGRAPHICSRESHADE

    Nice summary Mike. I would like to add a major pluss(for me) to the WRC games, is that the world around the track is more filled inn. DR2.0 really feels like they put in all detail at 5 meters left and right of the track in most zones and when in replays it looks very weird. WRC while less detailed has a more realistic "horizon" view.

    No idea how is it in wrc 10 and its not been demonstrated here, but the car sounds in DR2 is just amazing, i've spend first 100 hours not even realising how COMPLETELY different each separate car sounds in different cameras, i always drive in cockpit view, then i decided to switch to the bonnet view and it was completely different, then i switched to 3rd person camera.. .again.. completely different sounds, you can hear the turbo, the exhaust which you couldn't hear in other views.. and then when you press a button to look back ... the car sound changes completely to new, they've recorded at least 4 different sessions for each car - its insane.

  • @aaronflamisch5142

    Just my two cents as far as driving experience; I think dirt 2.0 does a better job of simulating the feel of spinning tyres ontop of loose surface, digging it away to get to grippier stuff on the bottom, where as WRC feels like youre always skimming along very loose stuff with no way to find actual grip, maybe its all thanks to DR2.0’s better FFB model giving more details for the driving feel and making the gradient between loose and grip feel more predictable. Great video as always Mike.

  • @Elgsdyr
    @Elgsdyr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Coming from DR1 (and numerous older rally games) I found WRC8 to be "good enough" to be entertaining, but it required a lot of FFB tweaking and some car setup to reach a decent level of handling.
    Later I got DR2 and was blown away by how natural "like a real car" the handling and FFB felt out-of-the-box (at least on slippery surfaces). Recently I tried the demo of WRC10, and while it was definitely an improvement over WRC8 it still had a weird feel of the default FFB and wasn't even close to the natural behaviour of the cars in DR2. IMHO, of course. :)

    I'm in the minority, but I just bought WRC10 as it was on sale and I wanted a good career mode. The driving experience in WRC10 is so much more natural feeling to me than when I tried DR2.0. I refunded that title a while ago as I honestly refuse to support an always online single player requirement and I didn't like Codies essentially DLCing all of DR1 into DR2 when it should have just released with the base game.
    WRC10 is def not perfect. Some of the pace notes are questionable, the sounds are pretty muted and lack oomph, racing in the rain and night is just down right unpleasant. The wipers don't seem to do much and the lack of lighting adjustment is inexcusable IMO.
    I'm going through the anniversary stuff right now and it's been a blast for the most part. If I had to guess neither title is super realistic, but for me WRC10 just feels natural to drive and is fun which is the most important part to me.

    • @sportschool3537
      @sportschool3537 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, right now they're selling all 4 DLC packs together for 20$ and the base game is dirt cheap too... so right now you can buy the whole game plus all DLCs certainly for less than 40$ and if you find it on sale even less... at some point I think it was on sale for 12 or 15$ along with the DLCs which is nuts...
      Anyway... DR2.0 is a much more enjoyable game if you don't have a racing wheel... I own WRC 9 and it's too damn twitchy on controller... and I say that while I'm a fantastic controller player... I achieve very good times in DR 2.0 on weekly and monthly challenges (in the top 300-500)
      Anyway, if you don't own both and you have to pick one, I would go for DR2.0 cause the driving feeling is 100% better... if you can own both and you have a driving wheel which is a must for WRC then go for both... without a racing wheel WRC feels clunky af, twitchy af, very very very annoying, you will never run good times and you'll get frustrated at how slow you have to go to keep your runs accurate and avoid damage (I like to get the car back in one piece, I hate seeing a banged up mess in the end)...
      Also, Tarmac rallying is 100% better on WRC cause everyone knows DR2.0 on Tarmac is a little bit worse than a turd on wheels... but personally I play rally games for gravel stages... Tarmac means nothing to me when I want to rally... if I want tarmac I go play F1 or Moto GP...

    I think that wrc10's damage model is not more forgiving. It's only one scenario where it lacks, you can't dnf with a crash. Otherwise tyre-wear and part wear and tear is more unforgiving in wrc10. I've have both but i go with wrc10 because of better stages, more fun imo and the career mode. I have a good PC and a monitor that can handle 144 Hz and Freesync. From a technical point of view, these problems shouldn't even exist. • @JoernR
      @JoernR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @TL Racing GT - I know, or at least I thought so. :) - I guess the reason for wrong notes is that the algorithm for creating that notes doesn't take elevation into account. If you bretter up a hill with a bend following on top, you just cannot change direction while airborne. Hello trees! Plus, the notes don't seem to consider the momentum the car has after the previous turn - so the note would be okay if you enter the turn from a straight, but send you flying if you just left a bend. There's a "nice" place in Poland, making you kiss the trees just a few meters away from the finish line. :D
      And of course you're right: You need to make yourself at home with the track. Pace notes usually work fine with low speeds, but tend to offer you botanical experiences when the pedal meets the metal. ;)

    My biggest problem with WRC9 was the inconsistency with way rally stages were done. I see no change in WRC 10 there, so I am not interested in getting it at all.
    Some of the rallies like Monte Carlo, Mexico, Argentina, Japan were incredible, I didn`t ever use my wheel setup, but I would just have fun on a controller. Those stages are technical, narrow and you have to pay attention.
    At the same time some stages like Sweden and Finland look like they are taken out of some mobile arcade - they are way too wide and are nowhere near accurate in that respect. Its nearly impossible to make mistakes on any of those stages - heck, you dont even have to listen to co-driver to make it to the end.
    Dirt Rally 2 is a lot more consistent there and Finnish stages are some of the best, same with Sweden.

For a true WRC fan that wants the real drivers/cars/stages/liveries obviously WRC is the way to go. If you don't want or care about that and just want a good rally game, dirt 2.0 is a great game too. I miss native triple screen support in dr2. Does wrc10 had them? Anybody knows?

      WRC10 does not support triples, the fisheye effect is worse than most games tbh. I wasn't aware DR2 supported triples either?

    One of the biggest dissapointements in WRC 10 is that they have used the exactly same engine sounds for all the cars. For example: All the WRC cars have the exact same engine sound, they have used one single sound and put them into all the wrc cars......Ive noticed that and this is shocking stupid....

    • @Nockspielt

      And all the WRC 2/3 cars also have the exact one engine sound, one sound for all the different cars....Im suprised that nobody noticed that??...!!

    I think important thing is WRC 10 is developed by much much smaller studio (3 times smaller than Codies), with lower bugdet and developers cannot modify engine of the game. That all gives big headstart to Dirt Rally 2.0

    WRC 10 for newbies? I got WRC 9 and stopped playing because I find it too difficult even when trying different recommended wheel settings (but the force feedback was amazing compared to Dirt 4). Heard Dirt Rally 2 was easier but you are saying the contrary O.o

      No no, dr2 is pretty hard, harder. Even with a wheel, its hard work, but satisfying a lot.

      @@jacquesjtheripper5922 actually just got DR2, it was on discount xD let's see how I fare

      @@rikoflishas hope u enjoy it. Edit: if u prefer start easy, try front wheel drive cars 1st maybe. But rear wheel drive ones are most fun for me, although they are all fun.
      I use a wheel and pedal set and it feels great on ps4.
      I have wrc8 which i enjoy too even if lacking in some polish and sound, plus its focused more on modern cars,,which are easier to drive.
      Im thinking to get wrc 10 now on sale on psn for ps4.
      Cheers

    Any recommendations on which plays better for a novice controller player on Xbox one

    • @SimRacing604
      @SimRacing604  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s pretty close, but perhaps WRC 10 is a better game to play on controller. The tires feel grippier, so you won’t be constantly fighting the car

    Wrc looks wayyyyyy better than 2.0 bro. 2.0 looks old at this point. Its why i tend to play wrc now more. The damage models for 2 are better but it looks so dated compared to wrc. That 120 hz is amazing. But 2 has wayyyy more realistic sounds. The exhaust notes on 2 are amazing. I think they should make a dirt 3.0 for the new consoles and then i think it will trump wrc. But till they get better graphics in dirt.... im running a 4k 120hz monitor on xbox.
