    the fun fact here is: all there is to weight transfer and such applies to track racing as well. it's just a difference in surface. :p

    I came here to tell you that this is a great video, and very appreciated.
    I just started rallysiming via RBRPro, and this video alone made a huge difference in my driving. I had heard a lot of the ideas before, even in the in game tutorials, but they never sunk in until they were described here, and described very well.
    I went from bouncing from one edge of the track to the other, and not really understanding why, to driving straight down the racing line as sideways as I wanted to be, and cut a minute out of my time on the first track I ran.
    I hadn't intended to write a novel here, but I just closed the game and i guess i was excited to tell someone about it XD

    Just got WRC Gen today, my first ever rally game and boy have I restarted the driving test 1000000 times. This video is just what I was looking for no one was really talking about how to drive it would just be gameplay. I'm on controller right now but my pc is high end so I might get a set up soon it looks fun and I'd like to learn how to drift.

    Great video. Well done! It explains things nicely for some of the less-experienced virtual rally drivers in the community. Mastering these techniques will help those people improve their times and increase their enjoyment of driving virtual rally cars.
    By the way Chris, are you going to do another first impressions video or release a review of WRC Generations now that it is out? You made one based on an impressions video driving one of the development builds but I would be interested to know your thoughts on the launch version. I'm working on a first impressions but due to the long hours at work, I barely have the time or the energy to work on it. Hopefully, I'll be able to put it together this weekend.
    Thanks for this video and enjoy the rest of your day, mate.

    Jon I saw your time on a RBR RSF leaderboard the other day for hotlap. I think you were 5th and I managed a 9th. Cant remember the track but I've seen your name in the top 20 a few times. Rbr in vr is so fun! 👌

    Funny, I just booted DR2 up for the first time the other night. Took a while to get my new wheel set up but had a blast with the mini in the historic rallys. Scared me self shitless with the Mk2 and then had a good blat around dirtfish with one of the scoobys.
    Had a really hard time with throttle control with the Mk2 escort and kept spinning out, I guess I'm just too heavy-footed, especially around slow, tight corners.

    Great video, I am a huge rally fan and of course that means my favorite sim is DiRT Rally 2.0, now I reached the point where I want to drive AWD cars and take it to next level. I struggle a bit to understand the Differential settings, especially things like Center Diff and Diff preload, it would be awesome if you or Jon could make a video about it! Thanks

    I need some training time booked with that guy. I have tried the easiest mode in Dirt2 and stil managed to come several minutes behind the last competitor. I can't complete any stage without getting off-course or hitting something. The learning curve for Rally is really steep.

    lol, try doing all the above with just a left leg operating the brake and accelerator pedals like I've been doing for the last 6 years lol... would love to know what sort of times you're getting on Newhouse Bridge (Scottish stage), my all round favorite stage in the entirety of DR2.0...

    About Force feadback I'll suggest to almost turn it off ( leave max 20% ) for rally and also circut racing if you have any non direct drive wheel because those cheaper wheels have hard time to react correctly like a real car when you loose traction they just dont have the speed and power to act like a real car thats why its better for them to not be in you way you need only a little pressure to fell a car. If you have a direct drive wheel its a different story :)

    Can Jon answer the age old question, what is the most realistic rally sim: Dirt, WRC or RBR?

    • @SimsRacingDesign
      @SimsRacingDesign ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each has their strongpoints and weaknesses in regards to their handling models so it's not as simple as many would believe, to be honest. Would love to know what Jon thinks regarding this, and not just which one but more specifically the reasoning behind it.

    • @AmbientMike
      @AmbientMike ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The general consensus is RBR, well RBR with mods like RallySimFans. Nikolay Grayazin uses it to practice and has talked about how literal modeled stages helped him in I believe it was Croatia or Hungary.
      I used to run in a team with Mattias Adielsson, a Swedish drivers who runs R5's and historics. He felt that alot of the principles in Dirt Rally 2.0 applied to the real world with weight transfer and trying to control a rally car, though there is forsure less than real characteristics to the game aswell.

    • @pbakai182
      @pbakai182 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      he's spoken about RBR on the comments section in his previous youtube videos:
      "RBR is nice for the feeling of how a real rally car should feel in a game and how the rhythm feels. DR2.0 simulates more things and the feeling of both is really good" (3 years ago)
      he can't really say *too much* since he's on the DR2.0 team as their game designer lol

    One of the tips that confused me and I wish was better explained to me is the concept of braking late. I think if it was said to me as braking 'into' turns would have helped. When I started I would try to slow down to the speed needed for a turn before I engaged it. Which is really not good and you cannot really take the turns sharply enough if you lack the speed to rotate the car.

    Dr2 is rally for babies. Do yourself a favor and stick with RBR if you want to learn to be a good rally driver. Graphics dont matter going fast lol
