for some reason i really enjoy DiRT Rally, the physics are not as good as DR 2.0, but there's something so great about this game, e.g. the AI, differences between AI's results are so random and that makes it feel pretty realistic, and completing a stage without hitting any tree in Wales is incredibly satisfying

Maybe I'm crazy or misinformed somehow, but after playing quite a bit or DR2.0 over the last year and now playing WRC9 I feel like DR2.0 is by FAR the more forgiving game overall, in terms of car damage, track limits and handling/grip physics. It could be that they're just 'different', but moving to WRC9 its like night and day to me how sensitive the suspension loading and throttle application is in WRC compared to DR2.0. Don't get me wrong I love DR2.0 for immersion--the codriver sounds like a real person because it is, and the graphics and lightning are far superior to WRC9. Hopefully now that Codemasters has the WRC game license they will somehow combine the driving model of WRC9 and the immersion/graphics of DR2.0 and add the modability of RBR into the perfect rally game for this generation... appreciate this video we need more sim rally content out here!

Thee Eschaton that’s very interesting. It must be my driving style then. You can kind of see the forgiveness in the WRC 9 clip in this video; at the end of the ridge, I take a hard left turn too fast, but the rear end hangs on. Normally for me in DR2 I’d be over a cliff. But again, maybe it’s just my driving style. Thanks for watching!

      *presses y: Same...
Like, this is literally my thoughts as well! Like on Colins Crest in DiRT Rally 2.0, you can go flat out ezy in any car, EVEN GR.B! But in WRC9, even in modern Ford Focus or Citroen C3, it is EXTREMELY SCARY to take it flat out, because when you land, you could either do a backflip, roll or spin! That's what I looooove about Vargasen stage in WRC9, just about flat out all the way, if you have the skills and BALLS! DR2 still gud tho, just pretty expensive if you want the 206, Finland, Lancia 037 etc.

Many like me are rather bad with the pacenotes so it has a racing line which personally speaking helped me a lot with understading pace notes. Its got a incredibly fun loeb experience in which you recreate moments from his career and overall i had a great experience playing it! Though for a rally purist or a sim racing purist in fact it will seem like a bad game if your new to rallying its a perfect game to use to get your head into rallying.

Rally game is for competeting time with each class but wrc9 not hacing them.
Meaning if u love R2 then u cant even compete higher tier
And also not having proper anti cheat like dr2.0 is flaw that kills the game i saw everyone finishes 6km stage around 0:30

Honestly the feel of the car and how you can control it especially around long bends holding your drifts and getting the acceleration and breaking control as its surprisingly realistic. I found the ffb and physics much better than WRC9 all round. Ffb, car angles, control the wheel gives the car. Anyone wants to try my settings if you decide to give V-"rally 4 a go let me know. For me WRC 9 is the winner!! Best tarmac physics in a Rally game, and since 9 brilliant gravel physics with fine weight transfer, too!!
The physics grow so much in WRC 9 when you go to the absolute limit with the modern Rally cars!! The historic cars have good but not nearly such brilliant physics in WRC 9.
The sound onboard are much more impressive in Dirt Rally 1 and 2.0, but the onboard sounds in WRC 9 are more realistic, look on YT onboard vids from modern WRC cars and you will know that I am right at this point... The historic cars have brilliant and realistic sound in DR 1 and 2.0!
The stages in WRC 9 are the best one in an Rally game!! Brillant stage design, so much rythm to drive New Zealand for example...
The lightning and weather Effects are really great in WRC 9!! Some Countries looks not as fine as others, for example Turkey and New Zealand looks brilliant, Portugal and Japan looks poor for me, but on a sunny evening with all the great lightning effects the look at least good too.
Sorry for my bad English, come from Germany... Thanks for your very fine vid!!

That’s cool having a stage generator a niche game but descenders a mountain bike has this feature too. You can have the stage in a desert mountain jungle forest near a river and then if you want it fast flowing slow smooth big airtime have ruts instead of berms and indivivdually change a jump or turn you don’t like if it feels weird and you can add in odstacles like logs rocks step ups tabletops whoops braking bumps. Think this feature should be implemented into upcoming games. Edit: another game I just thought of was grab turismo 5 all the way back doing 1v1 races with my brother before we even had our seperate playstations and now computers was fun doing split screen and playing bo2 as well, man I miss that time of my life🙂

I know, here we go... BUT not mentioning mods for RbR is like mentioning Assetto Corsa and not mentioning mods (like Sol). There is mods for sounds, physics, graphics,... endless selection of cars from pretty much every year&category you can think of and numerous realistic track replicas. If I look at an onboard of a real rally stage, RbR footage is the one that comes closest to replicating that.
It is one of those games, that grew into something much greater over the years. Dirt games, with their "console first" approach, will NEVER come anywhere close to that.
So c'mon sim racing gods, give us a Richard Burns Rally 2.0, so I can stop complaining about all of this until at least 2036 :P

I got this in my recommended 1 year and a half later lol) but I hope someone reads this. After playing around 250 hrs of DR2.0 and around 100 hrs of WRC9 (I don't have WRC10), if I had to choose one I'd take WRC9. Yes, DR2.0 has better graphics, nails classic cars, engine sounds, but stages becomes repetitive, tarmac FFB is awful and newer cars are basically non existent (apart from the R5 class). One of the reasons you feel WRC more forgiving is because there's no actual way of comparing the WRC cars to any car in DR2.0. If you compare WRC2 to R5 cars, DR's R5 cars actually feel more forgiving. WRC cars feel forgiving because they are much more advanced (in terms of the way they are built, specially aero, aka muuuch more downforce) than R5 cars. Stages are so much better in WRC, and personally (by playing on my budget G920) I can safely say WRC's FFB is much more detailed in gravel, snow and specially tarmac.

And with the Ffb difference between games mainly you have to look at what settings will clash with other settings in your Ffb category. Example if your ffp is 70 wheel tourqe is 80 and wheel damping or recenterimg is on 15 then there will be a ffb cut out where you need ffb most (the angle where you drift or slide out of control) if your ffb cuts out on a drift you loose control. So u really need to get it right

yep, totally fine with Dirt4 being my entry into the genre...needs some love with the wheel settings becase the default ones are trash.
content is limited in all modes, LandRush and RX specially, but the rally random track generator is sweet if you enjoy the fear of not knowing what's behind the next curve.
I wouldn't call the tarmac inconsistent, it just doesn't like you sliding too much around. this is not good for the faster RX class or vintage rally modes, but I'm fine with it on the modern modes.
force feedback is nice and I've heard worst sounding games/sims, the fact you don't hear any DSP pitch-shifting in it is a good thing.

The only bad thing are the graphics, but new stages made with a lot of detail and attention and going over 100kmh you wont notice this as much, the experience is the best anyway.

The comment about WRC9 being forgiving is not making much sense. The game is actually quite good, almost on par with DR2. It is godlike when it comes to stages and tarmac racing. But the main problem with WRC games is that they are not looked after by their developer. I mean DR2 can still get updates even today. But Kyloton generally do 2-3 updates and they are done. WRC9 has sooo much potential; but it will be dead after 2-3 months and Kyloton will completely focus on next game. I really hate this, I mean nothing compares to rallying in German or Japan tarmac in WRC9, only if Kyloton cared for their games.

i disagree with WRC9, i first played Dirt R2 and i couldnt get the feeling of the car, it just feel to me to floaty, like there wasnt any weight, as long so you keep pressing the throttle you would get huge amounts of grip. but when i tried WRC 9 it just clicked, here you really need to do powerslides to slow down, the weight of the car is there, you can feel the back of the car trying to go away. i dunno for me it feels more realistic, i still have to try RBR but i cant find somewhere to download it

Agreed with tarmac physics in DR2.0. Needs huge work within the core game. Tarmac is poor. I love tarmac in the WRC franchise, but Codemasters have it so wrong. If they don't rewrite the physics for WRC in 2023, I won't be onboard with it. Cool vid...

  • @adoringfan1226
    @adoringfan1226 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I like the WRC series for the tracks and career/ team management but every entry has optimization issues and no VR support. The tracks are far more realistic and challenging and make it worth a buy. The physic are weird when it comes to collisions and adds a layer of difficulty where there shouldn't be. For example: clipping any object will almost always halt or redirect all forward momentum when it shouldn't
Dirt Rally 2 is still a step up in audio, graphics, physics, and car variety. The developers put more effort into it than the rushed WRC releases and it really shows- but the tyre and tarmac simulation is lacking compared to tarmac centric sims. The physics may feel more punishing to beginners, but it makes it easier to drive on the limit when you have a solid understanding of the fundamentals, the drivetrain and how to shift the weight of the vehicle. I may be biased because Dirt Rally was my entry into sim racing but I recommend it as a starting point when venturing into the world of Rally- in conjunction with any tarmac centric sim
I just discovered RBR and the mod community easily carries it to number one. Mods almost fix every aspect of the vanilla game and the online player base is still active. While graphical mods can only do so much, RBR has both superior physics and greater variety. I can't recommend RBR enough since it essentially in the free domain due to the publisher and developer going out of business many years ago
For this, I highly recommend all three to any rally fan

If dirt rally 2.0 had a little bit better graphics and a lot better car damage physics, it would be without a doubt one of the greatest racing games ever. That’s the most irritating part of this beautiful game is that once you smash into a tree your car looks as if it had taken no damage. I remember playing dirt 2 and when you would crash you could lose tires and body panels would be flying off but you don’t see that much in dirt rally 2.0. Perfect car physics are in games such as grid, wreckfest, and beamng. I wish dirt could step in that direction for a ultra realistic experience but dirt rally 2.0 has been very enjoyable for me that’s the only complaint I have about the game and I think this game deserves the #1 spot.

Some folks get motion sickness in vr until getting used to it but that is the only negative.I ran it with a vive pro at 90fps with a 1080, i7 4390k,and 32gb ddr3 ram with no issues.Of course I had to turn down some settings to get 90fps but it looked fine.I still use the vive pro but now I super sample the res up and run high settings with a 3070 and 5600X.I have the G2 as well but I don't like the tracking and the fact that wmr has to be running too. If you have and enjoy vr then I would suggest just giving it a try.I do all of my sim racing in vr and I think dirt rally 2.0 implemented it quite well.

DR 2.0 for the win. In VR its really second to none. The difference in FFB from car to car and stage to stage is also incredible. RBR is great but its so dated at this point that mods cant even make it look modern. If youve never driven on dirt, relearning the driving technique is half the fun. I gotta say man the list is comprehensive but I have to disagree in a couple places. The sheer weight of content added to RBR should surely make a difference, but even mods aside, a large portion of European rally (France, Spain, Germany, Czech) is run on tarmac, which across BOTH Dirt Rally titles is widely viewed by the community to be a poor experience considering the polish on the rest of the game. I don't expect anyone to just agree, this isn't a debate hall and this is just my bullshit two cents, but I also reckon DR2 has some stuff turned down compared to DR1, ie potholes, narrow sections, proper hazards, and it also generally feels far less weighty and consequential than DR1.
Might just be me there but I felt compelled to say something. Feels like we who blast an unhealthy amount of sim rally games are often forgotten, and regardless of good-looking platitudes from Codies, I think the consensus is that an NGP enabled version of RBRCZ with 51gb of stages is the absolute premier of any rally game, with tarmac physics that in my opinion, rival the likes of Assetto Corsa and iRacing. It even has an FMOD bank for completely fresh custom sounds for the cars, despite being old enough to be my grandma.
Anyway. Will wind my neck in. Sweet video 👌
