He had the best advanced metrics, he lead the league in steals, and what they keep conveniently forgetting to mention is the real reason he won, he was the first player ever with 200+ steals and 100+ blocks in the same season as a 6'6" guard, he won it easy, was not given to him 💯
Of course it was gifted to him. He had basically the same exact stats the year before and didn’t even make All Defense. It’s really simple: since y’all don’t actually never watched MJ play, people go off of what the media tell them. I can list a link to a Celtics game they played in March 1988 where they said he had 5 steals and he only had 2 lol. But even worse, MJ was actually a bad defender in the 80s. He literally would play 5-6 ft off his man every possession, randomly gamble for blocks and steals on big men being guarded already and he never rotated back to his man. MJ would literally leave his man, try to steal, miss that joint, then just sit in the paint til the shot went up lmaoo. It’s a reason with all of the “stats” being the same, MJ didn’t make all defense in 1987. So how can you do the same exact thing the next season and be DPOY? Unfortunately, the internet is full of nerds and dummies who just go with the status quo. The question is, how many other guys had scorekeepers gifting them stats as well? I know Utah's guys gave extra assists to Stockton. If that's true with the other stars in the DPOY race, then it was a fair fight.
When we saw LBJ's son get drafted LBJ is simply eating the fruits of what guys like MJ Kobe Bird Magic Kareem Wilt etc Lebron is the pinnacle and it is badly exposed how he benefits being the face, they crowned him before he touched a basketball
The word on the street is every superstars’ stats at home were inflated. So if that’s true, doesn’t that even the playing field? That shit still happens to this day. LeBron and others stats are inflated so if we want to open Pandora’s box… I think we need to stop digging for issues because we know what this is really about. It’s a desperate attempt to lower Jordan to LeBron’s level rather than just allowing LeBron’s game and accomplishments do the talking. If LeBron is truly better, there is no need to try to discredit his DPOY almost 30 years later.
Looking up Alvin Robertson's 86 DPOY and his 88 year, he averaged .8 and 1.17 blocks per game at home respectively vs .17 and .52 blocks per game in the road. Fatigue mattered more because guys played 80+ games more often so homestands mattered more. They made more coast to coast trips, since there were less teams.
Pippen didn't get nearly the amount of recognition he deserve. And the fact that he's coming out and calling out Jordan and getting hounded about it afterwards proves it. P.S. Pippen was never credited for getting more steals than Jordan. Even if he was, that's bs because Jordan was known for gambling and getting steals way better than Pippen. That's also a lie.
Pippen was a great player, I used to have to defend him alot in high school and college because guys would call him a "sidekick" but he is the #2 in playoff steals for a reason. I loved watching the old highlight tape "Pippen Power and Grace parts 1-3" great full court and half court player. Jordan was a gambler on defense lol
First of all, there are no fake stats. The gentleman who claims to have fake stats, can’t even produce the video and cite the specific games in which he noticed the discrepancies. Now it is possible that MJ as well as “every other player” throughout history could have been credited with extra points, blocks, steals, etc… but not to the point of making their numbers far superior to others. I mean, LeBron James travels quite often yet they still award him points, and no one is complaining about that. The Lakers had over 1000 more free-throw attempts than any other team in the league over the last two years, which is suspect but no one seems to care. At the end of the day the best team and the best players always rise to the top. Only LeBron fans or people who dislike Michael Jordan would claim his stats aren’t accurate from 30 years ago. He’s not even playing anymore. How pathetic is such a claim. But what do you expect from Klutch Sports and LeBron fans. They know LeBron only has two more years of propaganda before he fades into obscurity.
I've been saying the same thing, they are gonna get real desperate these next 2 years, they know, once there aren't talking heads bringing him up in every conversation, and telling his fans what to say in defense of him, he and his "GOAT case" will fade out of sight out of mind, and everyone will look back and think, "why were we going so hard for LeBron when he wasn't even close?" The answer is simple, they're mindless robots who really don't have an opinion, just a favorite, and have to turn on the shiny box and watch someone else tell them what they think on the matter 💯
❤❤❤ How can LBJ NOT know that these tactics make him look weak to fans who prefer players who play with their hearts to win versus players who only worry about their stats. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd still pick MJ over LBJ even if the DPOY was awarded to the latter instead of the former because I don't like whiners who want recognition by tearing others down!
Sorry, my guy, but you seemed to be trying too hard to deflect and make excuses. Just analyze the video of JORDAN. You will come to the same conclusion. Bringing up Stockton's assists is a completely different situation. Assists are based on TEAM production. All you have to do is see the difference in scoring by the Jazz at home where they score more. Steals should be the same home and away. All you did was try to muddy the waters.
Good take, the point I was trying to make is that there are lots of variables at play. It's tough to say that he got the boost without access to the tapes of the games and watching all 82 in full. I also want to make it clear that him getting his numbers potentially altered doesn't surprise me but even if you took boosted steals away his presence was undeniable. I don't think the award should be based purely on steals because if that was the case, Alvin Robertson should have 3.
So I just uploaded some home games from the 87-88 season, and followed the NBA guidelines on steals. "A steal is credited to a player that legally takes the ball away from an opponent, intercepts a pass, or otherwise obtains possession on the ball following an opponent’s turnover (provided the ball has remained inbounds and the clock has not stopped). If a player deflects a pass or dribble and controls his deflection either away from an opponent or towards a teammate resulting in eventual possession for the defense, the player causing the deflection is credited with the steal." And, it checks out. It seems this Tom fake journalist doesn't even know the rules. The way he checked the steals is that when another player picks up the ball, he claims that Jordan shouldn't take the credit. The rules, clearly says that it is the intiator of the play not the benefactor

Yes, Jordan got special treatment Alright. 1. The Jordan Rules (Bad Boys wanted to give Jordan, Bird "career ending' injury. Stern never stepped in. Neve softened rules) 2. 1993 Retirement (Bad for NBA Marketing wise, Stern never tried to convince MJ not to retire because of tragedy) 3. 1985-1991. Jordan destroying his brilliant career with below average teammates. Stern never helped jordon to get Barkley or Ewing there like today. 4. When Lambeer, Isaiah, Rodman were flagrant fouling Jordan, trying to end career. Stern did not bother to get "flagrant foul' call until 1991. When Pistons run was over. Not in 1987, not in 1988, not in 1989, not in 1990. Stern waited until 1991. Stern was least bothered about Jordan's career ending injury after 1986 MJ injury scare. A black man like you is still in chains. He still cannot think prospectively or restrospectively. Jordan special treatment is the biggest hoax ever created. Had that been the case, entire eastern conference superstars, barkley, bird, ewing would've started complaining. and jordan need not wait til age 28 to win championship. He would've won in 1988 itself. Now go look for how Stern helped Jordan create "air Jordan' shoes and 'jumpman' brand. And come out with conspiracy theories as to how NBA helped jordan in that too. After all, its not like MJ gave 200% physically and mentally every time on NBA court and then some 1985, 1987, 1988 dunk contests. Unlike, today's make belief greatest wannabe. announces to participate in next allstar dunk contest and actually goes with 'the decision' live on ESPN and puts a dagger in fans hearts.
@mkhan8527 Respectfully, I have to say that I don't think you understand what I meant. I have stated plenty of times that in my personal opinion, MJ is the greatest basketball player to lace em up. Second, I have never been in chains mentally nor physically and I am not black. Black is a color not a race. Third, special people get special treatment, I would never disagree with that. If your best player has problems off the court but he comes in and dominates, you give him some wiggle room to get his stuff together. If he has problems off the court and can't make easy layups or stay in front of his man you're more likely to cut him. Would you rather have a pretty girl with an attitude or a weird looking girl with an attitude? Personally, I would have neither because I don't tolerate attitudes but most would say that you can't be ugly and nasty. I appreciate you watching the video and bless

This is some weirdo shit, the whole world saw that man go off on the court
Yes, Jordan got special treatment Alright.
1. The Jordan Rules (Bad Boys wanted to give Jordan, Bird "career ending' injury. Stern never stepped in. Neve softened rules)
2. 1993 Retirement (Bad for NBA Marketing wise, Stern never tried to convince MJ not to retire because of tragedy)
If the Bad Boys wanted to end Jordan, they would have. And the league did cater to him. Find the other star players that cried to the league.
A new (agenda) has emerged to bring down the lagacy of Michael Jordan one way or the other at any cost.😂Groups, reporters & LeBron fans are coming together as one to try to do the imposible.
So MJ has to return the dpoy?😂
Trying their hardest to discredit him.
But a lot of us where around back then..
And we saw first hand , just how great he was.
My father and older brother would have these games on VHS and I watched alot of tape from NBA hardwood classics and TH-cam of late 80's and 90's Jordan. Great player that highlight tapes can't encapture properly. Thank God for recordings for all of us to watch the older generation
