I actually been getting cards from garage sales too on weekends. Lots of treasures to find. I bought a lot for $200 (found lots of Jordan and Kobe). Actual value of the lots was much higher so I came back and gave him an additional $100. He was surprised I came back and appreciated it very much. We pickers should try to give back to them. Sometimes they have no idea what they have.
Nice job man. These other two probably think scoring a $100 card for a quarter is an honest living. Pickers deserve to make a profit, but don't fool yourself into thinking its perfectly fine to swindle some old man out of valuable stuff. Be humble and honest like Rick.

For someone who is a picker you are very polite and considerate to sellers who may not always know the value of their stuff. I think that lady was trying to emotionally manipulate you so, that you would just handover certain stuff that she may have been jealous that you got to first.
That lady was one of the most manipulative people I’ve ever witnessed, trying every manipulation tactic possible. Your patience was absolutely impeccable. I wouldn’t have been so patient myself, because I cannot stand manipulative people.

I once had a small rummage sale but I didn't want to do the hard work of pricing. So it was all offering for donation for a charity. One guy asked me how much for three garbage bags full of excellent polo shirts. I told him it was all donation and to give what his heart thought was right to give. He gave me a lousy dollar for all three bags!
Imagine being so dumb that you didn't take it to good will where they will give you a slip to write it off against your taxes. Made that guy money and boned yourself. And, for all your "goodwill" of donation or whatever, probably kept it from some people who actually needed it. Path to hell is paved with good intentions I guess.

There is this store in my town called Gimmie A 5$. Everything is five dollars. One time my mom and I were shopping and we had accumulated a pile of goodies and she asked me if I would sit with our pile so nobody would try and steal our stuff. Of course I said yes. About half an hour later a lady came up to me and starter looking through our stuff that I was sitting RIGHT next to. I explained to her that we were actually planning to buy this stuff and she straight up ignored me. I told her this was our stuff about 3 times before she told me she doesnt speak english. Now I am friends with all the employees of this store and so one of them came up to us and as soon as the employee got there she walked away. It is terrible how people just do not respect one another nowadays.

That sucks, I’ve seen grown men taking games and other items from kids at garage sales. They would be looking at the item and a guy would just come up and take it either from their hands or if the kid has a little pile. Most of the time they get kicked out, but just terrible to see.

I just knew she was gonna rake through your set aside items. Theres a certain etiquette to yard sales. Patience you had in abundance kudos to you. I have had people literally rip items straight out my hands before we do the same thing in the uk but we call it car boot sales.
That wasn’t even yard sale etiquette, that’d just normal etiquette that should be practiced everyday. You don’t go rummaging through something that someone is clearly set aside to buy
here in Sacramento theres a goodwill where people wait like hawks for a giant cart with clothes or other items in them to start rummaging through all the stuff...
Placing the card value aside I'd say just the sleeves and plastic card cases added up to a few dollars on their own. Same for the binders. Card storage (other than the cardboard boxes) can get expensive.
I enjoy your videos but I love the fact that you know the value and when the seller undersells you make sure they get the value of the product. Also, kudos on how you handled that lady...
"the value of the product" ie a third of the value of one of the good cards. Of just the cards he decided to point at, the "value" was well over $1500.
@Kipah Okay but what's your point? I'm sure the seller knows he's trying to find good cards to sell for himself and doesn't care. They seem to know each other. So if the man sells it for 70 and he gets 100, that's a good deal for him.
@@carrela1000 My point is bigjondoes said he likes something that isn't the case. If someone sells their house for $2000 and gets $3000, you can say that's a great deal for them, but I'm going to point out they're not getting the value of the house if someone suggests otherwise.
I stopped letting people look at my cards individually before selling them because whenever I did that my cards would always be missing after people look through them. Instead, I just lost a lot as 'bulk' and sell the prices cards individually. Its much easier to keep track of it this way
Wow; you must be a very calm person (and very polite!), because I don't know if I personally would have been able to keep it together with that lady hounding continuously.
I seldom go to yard sales but when I do, I take all items I want up to where you pay and I either cash out or put the items down and tell the sellers I still looking around.

Sir, you have a special place in heaven for the amount of Godly patience you displayed.
I would ALWAYS get weirdos at rummage sales. When we ran our own rummage sale, some cheapass guy came over and started trying to lowball us on everything (Pretty obvious he was some eBay reseller) and told us our stuff was "junk" and not worth anything - like some rare DVD sets we had and even our lawnmower for sale! He said he'd come back later and when he did those items he said were not worth anything and were "junk" were sold and he was visibly upset about it because he wanted to try to berate us again for our stuff being "junk" so he could get the items for virtually nothing and resell for a profit! In fact the lady who bought our lawnmower was loading it in their car when he came back and I pointed that out to him and he walked over to them and started harassing them trying to buy it for cheaper than she paid for it! I couldn't believe the Gaul of some people! WTH?
Nice score. That lady made me uneasy, she was asking you if you’d consider letting her get what she wanted out of the box after you had already paid for them. She’s going to end up paying more for single cards than a box. TFS By the way you handled it great.
What you demonstrated is a keen eye and taking quick action. Something was very off about this lady and simply, she was too slow. You are very patient.
In 1988 a customer came in an RCA records that sold games as well. He started chatting the employee about Nintendo games. My dad and i, walked right past, grabbed an NES and the two last copies of both Zelda 2 and Mario 2 off the shelf. We set them on the counter and the clerk said, oh the last ones and looked nervously at dude man. Dude proceeded to say, "i was gonna get those." My dad looked right at him and said, "and now your not."
Your kindness shown for the woman was so dear. Your family is blessed to have you in their lives. Thank you for the time to put this haul out there. Be safe. Say hello to Parker and your lovely wife.
This is why I take IKEA bags to estate sales and garage sales. I get tired of people going through my pile. I had that happen at a thrift store where I was actually going to buy clothes for myself- the employee offered to hold my stuff at the desk -- which was a rack right next to the desk. By the time I got there to pay, half my stuff was gone. It was like a rack of clothing for sale, so people took them. Never again.
I have worried about that happening to my favorite resellers on here (TH-cam) And I've seen many people use these Ikea bags...they're sturdy AND roomy! One lady HAVING a garage sale was using blue painter's tape to mark off piles that were either reserved or paid for already...I thought that was so clever!!!
I am getting IKEA bags next week ! I had someone take LEGO from my pile that I had put behind the women who were checking out people this past summer. I know that I should have paid and put the stuff in my car, but the line was long and I hadn't been through half the sale. Even though they took some of my items, while they were doing that I found a set of books that I sold for $60 and 2 Christmas ornaments that I sold for $40 - probably more than the LEGO was worth. It was obvious that my items were not in the sale area, but they were gone. Lesson learned.

Well, she asked him first. It's not like someone would say no, but still...
Placing the card value aside I'd say just the sleeves and plastic card cases added up to a few dollars on their own. Same for the binders. Card storage (other than the cardboard boxes) can get expensive.

Its much easier to keep track of it this way
I'm the same with lego, too easy for thieves to steal stuff, sell in bulk and don't let them look through it
