- It's time for The Lost Levels, this is arguably the hardest official Mario game ever made. Of course, it's nowhere near some of the crazy Mario Maker levels or hacks that are out there, but it's quite tough compared to most official Mario stuff.

In the Lost Levels, if you get a coin count of 11, then end the level w/ the last (most far right) digit of the timer matching 1, you get a 1-Up. :D Hoped this helped!

The original Super Mario Bros 2 (The Lost Levels) was so difficult that Japan didn't think we could handle it. So we got the Super Mario Bros 2 that we all know and love (it's actually called Doki Doki Panic)
If you hit the right side of the block, the mushroom that comes out of it will go left, hitting the left side of the block will make the mushroom go right.
is that it? i'm pretty sure it is the direction you're looking when you hit it, that determines what direction the mushrooms go. both sound plausible, and i can't remember exactly. so scykoh should try both.

I actually had a copy of super mario bros. for my old gameboy color when I was a kid and after you beat the main game it allowed you to play the secret levels. Also you had to collect yoshi's in each stage. :)
Me too! I just loved Super Mario Bros Deluxe and still do :3 There was so much cool extra stuff in there, like the Yoshis of course, or racing against Boo or the album and much more ^_^
I look away for a couple of weeks and you suddenly play one of my favorites. Excellent.
@ScykohPlays Beware of later levels, btw. They make it so that you absolutely HAVE to jump straight to the flagpole to beat the stage or else you'll fall into a pit. HOW EVIL!!!
My SNES came with All Stars and a video featuring different interviews, tips, etc. One of them was how to use the boxed in Koopa at the start of 1-1 to farm lives, so I pretty much always did that on a Lost Levels playthrough.

I like this Super Mario Lost Levels version when I was a kid. I always wanted to finish Level 8-4 and D-4. Challenging yet fun. I like the trampoline and the gush of winds which makes it a bit complicated. Super Mario fan here.

Honestly this is probably my least favorite mario game due to how unfair it can get. I don't mind a hard platformer but this game loves to throw cheap attacks and blind jumps far too often for me to consider it a well design game. It honestly baffles me that it's the same people who made the first game.

Oh hey, it's the only Mario I've played that I can't beat. I think World 3 had that one trick that I could just never get over; there'e this massive ravine, and the only way over it is one of those new springs. Every time I tried, I ended up 2-3 blocks short of crossing the ravine. This went on for a week before I uninstalled The Lost Levels from my 3DS.

The reason Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (or Bros. 2 as it was called in Japan) is because it was not different enough for being a proper sequel plus it was too hard (I haven't finished it even once, not even as an adult) so they retooled the japanese Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic game into Super Mario Bros 2. Lost Levels was released the first time in the US and PAL regions in Super Mario All-Stars and the original NES version of Lost Levels were released years later on the Wii Virtual Console. The US and PAL Super Mario 2 were released later in Japan under the name Super Mario USA.

Play as Luigi since it introduces character selection I think it would be cool to mix it up since you already used Mario in the last game

I would recommend starting with either a crack in time or going commando. A crack in time is newer, shorter and with more collectibles. I like the general feel and story better in going commando though.
Please consider it. I love watching your videos and would love to see you experience my favourite games from my childhood:)

WINDEX GLASS CLEANER No crack in time had a better arsenal, story, more interesting planets where the levels wasnt just one little section that took 10 minutes.

Just saying...i grew up playing super mario on nes and then moved on to All Stars/Super Mario World at a very early point in my life. I never noticed how hard Lost Levels was as a young child. I don't remember ever having problems with it. I kinda wanna hook up the old SNES and play through this just to see if it's really that difficult.
Forgot to add this...i would like to play lost levels with the original NES graphics. It's nice having the SNES updates but I wish they would've put the NES version on the NES classic...maybe a bonus game like Star Fox 2 on SNES classic.

so at the start there is that boxed in cooper, grab the mush room but don't go off the screen next wait for the cooper to be on the end block break the other then break the ones above you and then jump fordwards light and hit the cooper shell it should bounce back and forth thus giving you 1-ups keep going until time runs out

The lost levels is NOT the actual super Mario Brothers 2. Doki doki panic was made entirely based on smb1, and was then converted to doki doki, and then converted to smb2. Lost levels was made after doki doki, so technically it is not the second smb, doki doki/ smb2 was.
Daniel Baker it depends on how you look at it. Nintendo thought SMB2 J was too hard for Americans, so they made SMB2 USA from Doki Doki to give to Americans
SuperTeeter64 you completely misunderstood why you're incorrect. Doki doki panic is the actual smb2. Smb2j was made after doki doki panic. Then smb2i was made from doki doki panic. So the smb2 we got was the ACTUAL smb2.
Doki Doki Panic was always intended to be Super Mario Bros. 2. However, Nintendo entered into a licensing deal and turned the project that was originally Super Mario Bros. 2 into Doki Doki Panic and released it in Japan. They then went back to the original game and engine and quickly created a bunch of challenge levels to become Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels). When it came time to bring a version to America, Nintendo decided not to bring Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels) due to it being too hard and way too similar, but instead bring over Doki Doki Panic, reskinning it into the Super Mario Bros. 2 game it was originally going to be anyway. The Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 was eventually brought over to America as The Lost Levels and the American Super Mario Bros. 2 was eventually brought to Japan as Super Mario USA.

Is it just me or does he go invisible when he gets hit while big mario?
That's because of TH-cam's compression. When Mario has a power-up and takes a hit, the game makes Mario flicker by alternating frames of him being normal and being invisible. When games use the alternating-frame trick like that, TH-cam videos of them usually only show every other frame. End result is that while Scykoh would have been seeing Mario flicker, we're just seeing Mario being invisible.
