Public Service Announcement: Sykoh apparently didn't realize, but you have to unlock world 9 by playing worlds 1-8 through without using warp zones. There's a snarl with this in the All-Stars version, though - if you ever use a warp zone, world 9 disappears from the stage select and is permanently locked on that save file. Just something to keep in mind. (Worlds A-D have no such unlock conditions. If you take warp zones to world 8, you'll just skip world 9 and start world A.)
I wonder how many people know about that 1UP from the flagpole trick in the Lost Levels which I bet virtually no one noticed happen in the video? ;)

Rana It happens when both digits of the coins counter and the last digit of the timer match. In Scykoh's case, all three were zeroes. ;)

To give you all an idea of how amazing that wall jump is, lemme show you the odds of that happening.
First, you must hit the right pixel of the block in order to be able to wall jump. There are 16 different pixels, so that’s a 1/16 chance.
Then, you only have 1 frame to jump. The game runs at 60 FPS, so that is a 1/60 chance.
In total, the odds of doing that wall jump was a 1/960 chance, or about a .104% percent chance of happening. These odds are only theoretical, and you would probably get it a lot more than .104% percent of the time, but really all I’m trying to say was that was absurdly lucky. 8)
Th0ts R Us You seem to be assuming that someone can press the jump button only once per second, but surely it's more often than that, maybe 5 or 6 times (as a guess), increasing the odds to a 1/12 or 1/10 chance based on the frame-perfect input. The total odds, then, when be more like 1/160 or 1/192, still low but several times more likely than you indicated.
Actually, Mario/Luigi's subpixel position is an important factor of the walljump as well, and it's basically impossible to manipulate (the subpixel position stays the same unless you enter a new room via pipe or by beating the previous level, and there's no guaranteeing that it's at the correct value either)

I kind of thought I wouldn't like seeing Lost Levels before the next two games, but I actually enjoyed it and now I'm excited to see Mario 2 and 3 since they're both so different from what we've been seeing, so I guess it all worked out!
Also, I just wanted to mention, I'm really glad that I'm enjoying this series because Scykoh is one of the most simple and fun TH-camrs for me to watch, but I'm not interested in half the games he plays on this channel, so it's great to kind of see four in a row.

its actually better to get the warp zone to world C first, because then you can then exit the game, choose B-4 in the level select, and then warp to world D (unless your playing the original game)

I suppose I just have more luck (and/or patience) with Hammer Bros because they don't seem to be too much of a problem for me until Super Mario 3.

Are we ever going to get a continuation to this series or is it going to be left at Mario Bros. and Lost Levels. I love the Kirby content, however waiting for SMB2 is hurting my soul...

1Ups are useless? well... i guess thats the problem with AllStars.
Back in my young days, to compare yourself with your friends, you just had your score. At least here in my neighborhood nobody cared about the speed, but that may be a cultural difference. So many of my friends were happy to complete the game and showed their score, but because they warped, the score was really low :D
I tried to play SMB2 back in the days, but i was too young, so i wasnt even able to get past world 2 (an older familymember imported SMB2 from japan). That was because when you die, you start from the beginning of the level, if you run out of lifes, you have to restart from the beginning (world 1-1).
AllStars made it so much easier, due to checkpoints, continues and the save feature. So what i was about to say is, 1Ups are crucial for your survival. Also there was Luigi, but not with that changed physics.
1. Original lost levels booted you to the beginning of the world (2-1)
2. Luigi had the changed physics in the original, this being his first time with the attributes

Is it just me or does the difficulty spike severely drop between SMB2 and SMB3?
don't rush any of the moving. I'm sure everyone would rather wait than see any sloppy or rushed content.

really wonder how many if any people managed to clear 9-D worlds on the original NES considering you get 1 life..
@vineheart01: only world 9 in the origial you only get one life, and if you lose that life you have to beat all does level again to reach world 9 again, but having to repeat it his not a punishment since it would help unlocked world A through D, if you beat world 9-4 in the original NES version it goes back to world 9-1 you need a game over to go back to the title screen. to unlocked world A through D beat 8-4 a total of 8 times, for 8 stars, you can skip castle level, mean you can used warp zone to skip castle level, hold A and press start to start in world A-1 with 3 life, if you game over their his infinite continue, but you start in the first level of the world you game over in, same with the normal level except for world 9, hitting retry, his a bad idea since you would start in 1-1 if world A his not unlocked, the title continue code does not work, except for the GBA version, in the GBA version since holding A is for the continued code(what his the continue code for if you have a continue after a game over, if you want to switch between mario, or Luigi only the GBA version will allow this), you hold B instead when you unlocked world A through D in GBA version. Also world A through D in the NES version are easier then the all-stars version. NES version enemies stay normal speed they do not move fast, they are still goombas, within level check point still exist, except for world D and castle level, and Bowser does not toss hammer including both in D-4, hammer bros. does not move toward the player when they first appear on screen.
vineheart01: their his one weird thing that the original version have making does reverse warp zone a giant Big fake troll, so if you beat all level and you reach world 3-1, and you accidentally found Warp zone to world 1, and you do not want to lose a life go in, and used the warp zone back to world 3 in world 1-2, you will still have world 9 after 8-4, since you never skip a castle level, that was not done yet, same if you beat all level you reach 8-1 you got warp zone to world 5 by accident warp zone to world 8 in 5-2 his the answer to get back, and you will still have world 9 after 8-4, This does not work in the All-stars, since the All-stars version looks if you enter a pipe with the Name Welcome to warp zone. While the NES version only look if you beat all castle, and skiping a castle that you already clear, keeps it clear.
