    Thanks! I was going nuts today trying to compress the piston with the old par wondering why the universe hates me. Then I looked it up and figured out what was going on and this video helps for when I get the tool. Next issue to tackle: how to get the center nut off the rear without vented brakes (I can't do the screwdriver trick). For some STUPID reason Hyundai uses the center nut to lock on the rotors on the new cars. Not the rotor screws, already got them out, had to use an impact wrench, though. They want us all to give up DIY and spend hundreds at a shop.

    The video never actually shows the piston retracting. I feel this was important and it should have been included.

      Hey there! That's a fair point! Hopefully it is explained clearly enough so you know what should happen/what to do, but I appreciate your point! Hopefully we can show it in the near future in a brake removal video.

    Hope you enjoy the video, and find it useful. These kits are a really good investment, and can be bought very inexpensively on eBay - well worth a buy! This video is not sponsored, and loads of companies make them - so check out the set that seems the best quality at the best price! Different kits come with different numbers of adapters BTW, so bear that in mind if buying a set as not all contain the same amount of bits!!

    For the rear brakes you don't need the plate in most cases.I just put the correct adaptor on my one and hold the tool on the piston turning it while pushing in by hand.Alot quicker. For the fronts I just use a glamp to push the piston in.

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can not use the plate on the rears if you prefer (unless they are stubborn!) May save a few seconds, or longer if you are unsure which to use as unsure on the rewind direction :-)

    I’m trying to use this Ake tool kit to push the piston back in for my 2016 Polaris slingshot sl. Everything was working fine until I dismounted the caliper to replace the break pads. Once I changed the break pads the piston came out and is not letting me push it back in with the tool set. Idk what to do I’m not a car guy I already tried using this set and releasing the break fluid thing too. The set fits good but I can’t turn the knob. Idk if it’s too hard or if something else is stoping it from turning

    Direction of the rotation of the rewind tool is what I am just thinking about. I have replaced discs and pads of my Opel Astra Twintop 1,8, 2007. In the videos and manuals there is shown and written that the direction should be clockwise. For both of rear wheels? I think the direction must depend on the side of the car as the directions of rotations of the actuating levers related to caliper are different for the left and right wheels.

    It should be noted that the long nut has to be adjusted as the piston is screwed in.

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, B6/B7 S4 front (and rear!) brake calipers fit the standard A4 B6/B7. You need to ensure your wheels have enough clearance for the larger caliper. Most 18" wheels will be fine, and pretty much all 19's.

    on my Audi A8 D3, rear pistons, dont have the grooves for the pins to rewind it, is it correct assume that they can be just pushed in, like the fronts?

    • @FleetTech97
      @FleetTech97 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easiest way to know is the park brake. If park brake is built into the caliper then you need to wind it back. If the park brake is drum style then you don’t need to

    • @cableguy11
      @cableguy11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FleetTech97 I had to double check this with Audi specialist, The ebrake is built into the caliper, but on the A8 D3, the piston can be just pushed back, without winding it.

    Does threaded rod diameter matter? Do you need exact number of rotations to push piston certain amount? For example: Will rotating caliper 5 times and pushing it in 20mm be more/less proper compared to rotating it 10 times and pushing it 20mm?
    If I were to make this tool, do I need to make note of anything, or just "rotate it a few times while pushing it in"?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the diameter of the thread on the rod itself does not matter at all. And as for rewinding the caliper, you simply do it until it stops. Once stopped, it's fully rewound and ready for the new pads. I definitely would not consider making one f these as they are so cheao to buy (see Amazon links in the Video Description). It would cost more to make than to buy for sure! Hope that helps :-)

    Do left and right calipers rewind clockwise /counter clockwise or is it manufacturers specific

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is manufacturer (or sometimes even caliper by caliper!) specific. You can Google search and often find the answer, or just turn slowly and watch if it is rewinding or forwarding the piston, if forwarding just change it over.

  • @f.k.b.16
    @f.k.b.16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great explanation! One thing that makes no sense to me is the poison on caliper isn't threaded so what is being "rewound"?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Ok, so on a typical front caliper the piston is not threader, it just goes back and forward, so you use the plate in the set that has no notches. However, on a typical rear caliper the piston is threaded (allows for handbrake auto adjustment as pads wear down) so you use a plate with the same size notches as the piston, and that literally does rewind the piston back into the caliper housing. And different makes/models of caliper can have the rewind in different directions, hence two bars in these sets, with threads in opposite directions. So these kits can basically do the vast majority of cars. Hope that helps :-)
