Hi Joy im 15 years old and I have the exact same disease as you including the arthritis and everything I was also diagnosed a the same age as you, 3. Watching this made me cry so much I never thought I'd find someone with the same issues as me. I have recently lost most of my vision on my right eye and can only see movement and my left is also my good eye but I can see very little from it . I have had over 36 surgeries I am terrified that one day I will also be completely blind. Im currently in therapy and suffering through really bad anxiety and depression because of it all. It's hard growing up like this im im highschool and I get made fun of a lot as well. You're very inspirational and this helped me more than you can imagine. If there's anyway I can contact you and like talk to you more Id really appreciate it. It would be nice to talk to someone who finally understands what it's like to suffer through this.

Hi Sonora, thank you so much for your lovely comment below. To answer your question about what I can see… I see complete darkness. I have no light perception in either eye but the really neat thing is, is that it doesn't feel like I live in darkness. My brain remembers what it's like to see everything, even my reflection. When my hand touches a Mira I can see my face. I will actually get dressed, pose in Front of the Mira to see what I look like and my brain fills in the rest LOL. Blindness isn't so bad. I actually feel like I see more than someone who has eyesight. I hope this answers your question and thank you so much for taking the time to write me. God bless, Joy :-)

i thought i was the only 1. i had much better vision but due to rp my sight is very poor...but like u i have memories of myself and the world around me so my mind can imagine visually what im doing in realtime like kissing someone or waving my hand in front of my face. i cant see it but i see it in my minds eye. guess thats why i always watch movies that i saw as a kid over and over again. i remember the exact facial expressions and body movements that happened in a scene or if was an action scene i would remember exactly how the guy kicked ass and took names lol thanks 4 sharing.

+rogelio maldonado Hey Regelio, I see you said you have RP as retinitis pigmentosa? Which I also have RP since 1997 and my vision had change little over bit over the years. Last year i had genetic eye test done and it came back RP as Usher type ll A. I also been hard of hearing since 1982 and my hearing had change little bit. For now i am still drive during day time and few things, but i notice my side vision and below vision is pretty much gone and my biggest fear is going blind completely. My RP and other thing going on my life been huge stress and my health had decline pretty quick and i try pull myself out of this and only way is for me able to accept my RP completely.
Joy , I love your energy, spunky positive attitude and i wish i can be more like you. By the way you are gorgeous.

My first girlfriend was blind from birth due to retrolental fibroplasia (destruction of the retinas due to overly rich oxygen in her incubator) Back in 1953 she was a preemie and only weighed 3 pounds and was a miracle to have survived at all. She was so profoundly blind the she could only distinguish between light and dark. I found her sweet, sociable, adventurous, and most of all happy. I learned a LOT from her.

Joy Ross I just watched your video today and I think its so inspirational, sight is something that we often take for granted and seeing your video is just another reminder that we should always count our blessings. I prayed to God that he will restore your sight one day. I think you're a wonderful women and you've made me see that there is hope without sight and I think you're an encouragement to blind people all over the world. Watching your video has encouraged me to see through my heart and not just through my eyes.
I have a question: when you say "your world turned black/dark" do you mean that figuratively or do you literally just see black? I hope I'm not coming across as impolite, I'm just wondering what a blind person with NLP sees.
God bless you and your family.

Hello Joy, I am 15, and I was born with unilateral microphthalmia (an underdeveloped eye). My other eye is perfectly fine, but I couldn't accept the fact that I was blind in one of my eyes. I also struggled with my confidence because the micro eye doesn't match my healthy eye. It took me years to realize how blessed I really am. Fortunately, I came to terms with this and had a prosthetic shell done which made my confidence skyrocket. Thanks for the inspiring video!

When you said you had uveitis my heart sank. I was diagnosed with chronic iritis (which is similar to uveitis but my body only attacks my iris). Mine isn’t caused by arthritis but by a gene defect called hla-b27. Without modern medicine and steroid eye drops I would be completely blind too. My first flair up was so bad and took so long to diagnose I did almost lose my vision in my right eye. Your story is so inspiring. I will never take my vision for granted ❤️❤️

As my Mother went blind before she died I remember I "hurt" so bad for her. I became her eyes learning to describe everything around her in as much vivid detail as I could and learned to do. I learned however that it was I who was actually more impaired than she was because she adapted to her new reality wonderfully, and never ever complained. She was the inspiration in my life. Thank you for sharing (your inner) Joy!

I feel your pain baby girl I was litteraly diagnosed last Fiday 7-13-2018. I woke up Thursday 6-19-2018 I woke up with a black spot in my lower left eye. IT wouldn't even bother me till Friday 6-20-3028 when I awoke to half my sight in my left eye was gone. My wife took me to my Dr.s office we talked to his nurse and asked for a list of the drugs I take because I thought I had mixed something the wrong way. We decided to talk to my Dr. the next Friday when I had an appointment scheduled. Well the morning of the next Friday my left eye was gone. I forgot to mention I had already lost most of my sight in my right eye to a stroke back in 2003. So what had been my week eye for the past few years had overnight become all I had left. ( very little) So on Friday 13th 2018 I took a field of vision test that showed I was legaly Blind. No hope of it coming back and more than likely I will loose the rest over time as I age. It seems they now think I got off lightly in 2003 but wasn't as lucky this time with another stroke. It has been a real month this past one we lost my wife's service dog to a speeding motorist. On a better note my anti depressants are working good I haven't shed a tear over this new development yet. sorry to hear about your lose, I am lucky in that respect My children are all raised and on their own we help out with the Grandchildren when we can. One thing that worries me about all this is my wife is now our only driver and she has full body seizures were she looses physical control. The good book says he wont send you more than he sends you strength to bear, I must be stronger than I think. Keep the faith baby girl and be safe always.

I just stumbled upon your channel due to the fact that my husband and I are about to adopt a girl who is completely blind in one eye and has had sight restored in the other. I am trying to learn all I can about this world of loosing sight so that I can better help her. We are thankful she does have sight in in eye but I know she still has struggles. Thank you for your transparency and beautiful spirit!! Despite your struggles you are such an encouragement and light. God bless...

Whew this made me emotional! Your cheerfulness is so inspirational. I have anxiety and probably depression and some health problems and I’m trying hard to find happiness at the moment because I’m also grieving. But I have two daughters ages 3 and 7 and I want to be the best me possible for me and for them. Your videos are helping to lift my spirit so thank you for that.

This is so inspirational! I've always wanted to help train service dogs, for the deaf and the blind. The most touching part was when you described how your daughters also disappeared. That has to be so so so hard, but I hope they're both okay, and I know you've inspired me and everyone else who watches this video. Thank you so much for sharing! ~Jocelyn
