      Mel Hawk Actually, yes! I have had so much fun with these eyes over the years. You should go check out my prosthetic eyes playlist on my channel. I have one actually on Halloween where I was dressed up like a crazy cowgirl with my eyes looking all insane LOL. I can’t wait to do the video I talked about in this video. Wearing a go pro and going into a store in my eyes all crazy and seeing reactions from individuals, should be amazing and hilariously awesome!

      Thank you, and LOL. I decorate, design, pick out my outfits, do my hair and makeup all without eyesight. I have become better at all of these things since losing my complete eyesight 12 years ago. I think now I pay more close attention to the details. It’s not just about what it looks like, but how it feels. There’s so much more to designing and creating beauty then through true physical vision, it’s all about your mental vision. My vision in my mind is very vivid, colorful, and beautiful! Many blessings :-)

    • @JoyRoss
      @JoyRoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      Wow, thank you so much for your encouragement. My strength has been developed through the darkest storms of my life. When you are weak, through God you are strong. Pain and perseverance develops the strength that will help you endure the storms. I know we each have the choice to either given, give up, or keep pushing on, I am a fighter! Even when I was so extremely weak, hopeless, feeling at my ropes and, there was some thing in my heart, God speaking to me that said Joy keep going! Sometimes we want to give up right before things begin to turn around. In those moments we just have to have eyes of faith to keep believing the best is yet to come. You know, the darkest part of the night is right before the dawn of the morning. After going through so much hell on earth through my loss and health conditions that had me hospitalized eight times in the course of three years with my blindness, juvenile arthritis, chronic nerve pain in my eyes, pain med addiction, I kept holding on to God‘s word, and He help me to see the light again! Today I live a beautiful life full of so much beauty, joy, strength, purpose, and light because I made the choice to believe in the things that I cannot see, which is called faith. I walk by faith not by sight and I firmly believe when you choose joy, choose to see your blessings in the midst of your disappointments, you can’t help but live a life full of love and beauty and strength 💙

    My mum had a prosthetic eye as she got stung in the eye by a wasp when she was a child living in Jamaica. She has a a dead grey eye and was fully blind in that eye after the wasp sting. She didnt wear it all the time and obviously that never bothered us kids, but it would sit on a jewellery box in her room on her dressing table and I would swear that she could see us when we snuck in her room, as she would shout " what are you doing in my room? " from downstairs, when in actuall fact she could tell we were in there because of the squeaking floorboards under our feet😂

    Went to HS school and was friends with a guy that had 1 prosthetic eye. He had SOooo much fun with it! One time we had detention after school & they made u help the janitors as punishment. We were pulling weeds outside with the janitor. My friend took his eye out and put it on top of some weeds. The janitor didn't know he had a fake eye. Then he started screaming "omg...MY eye-it HURTS..something just happened to my eye!" The janitor came over and my friend moved his hand away from his eye. The janitor sees that his eye is gone, then i said "Holy SHIT, there is an eye on the ground!" The janitor looks, turns white-then ran in to call 911. 😂😂😂 We got detention for 10 days for that. Lol

    My dad lost his right eye during high school while playing football. He was tackled and another player accidentally poked his eye and the doctors tried to save his eye but couldn’t so they removed his right eye completely and he was given a glass eye to match his left eye. I am 30 now and at 22 I was 7 months pregnant when he passed away and at that time he was 82 and had no actual belongings or monies my sister and brother had issues about not getting anything but me all I wanted was his glass eye. I carry it with my everyday in a special pouch. I get to look at it and see him looking me and I get to remember all the times I grew up sitting on the bathroom counter while he let me wash his glass eye and I smile remembering how he would stare intently holding me as a 4 year old didn’t drop his eye down the sink lol he had that eye for gosh since I was born and beforehand. Because he had his eye removed and only had the socket he never needed to get a new glass eye. And he’d put his eye in upside down and make jokes and then his favorite thing was to take his naps and take his eye and put it on his forehead and before falling asleep he;d say i’ll be watching you lol
    Thank you for this. Even after all these years it’s still hard to think about my dad and how he never got to meet my first baby girl he got to see her on my 4D ultrasound but he passed away before then. Most days I try to not think about him because it makes me sad. But your video didn’t bring back all my sadness but it brought the happiness and jokes my dad was always doing with his glass eye and I can;t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing this and bringing me so muc happiness and fond memories that came rushing back

      I dun like suntans lol. I think it’s because we have different beauty standards. In my country, we’re more towards pale skin. The whiter and cleaner the better. I got tanned at the beach once and.... I mean, I would look nice if I was in your country but I didn’t like that. My natural skin colour is also pale so I guess I was just not that comfortable with my skin colour being different form the colour I was burned with.
      And talking about beauty standards, my country doesn’t really have one. Peeps have different beauty standards accord what they like or are familiar with.

My childhood memories are full of fun, silly moments of "dad jokes" about his fake eye. This video just seems quite normal to me because of those experiences. I loved looking at his spare eyes- as he did get newer and better ones as time went on. Prosthetic eye technicians, called ocularists, design these to match an existing eye. That would be a pretty cool occupation. The young woman who designed Dad's last eye did an amazing job.

His joke for his rookie driver was to say "I'll just take a look at your blind spot" and remove his eye ball for you to see... Scared the crap out of the unsuspecting. Some times he'd put it in crooked so it was looking completely the opposite direction to his real eye and give you a gummy grin. RIP Ted Lewin. You were a card.
