The "bottom" function is for when you only have a half full tub. Such as a smaller amount to start with or if you creamify the top, scoop it out and save the rest for later.
the noise is 100% because it needs a crazy powerful motor to drive it down into frozen solid mix, cause that downward force is part of what creates the creaminess
And this is exactly why I'm reluctant to buy one 😅 I already have a loud espresso machine, and a blender. I moved about a month ago, have yet to meet the neighbours as I haven't been home much between work and the holidays. I don't hear much from my neighbours, and I wonder if that is because it's isolated well or if they're just quiet people without having any loud appliances 😂 According to Google this machine is likely even louder than my espresso machine and blender, so I'm pretty sure my neighbours would hear this one if they aren't already hearing my other loud appliances 😅
As a diabetic, this has been a godsend. I’m able to eat healthier ice cream that doesn’t have a load of added chemicals in and customise everything to my taste while not having to worry about it spiking my blood sugar!
We use the bottom function when we have only used half a tub and put it back in freezer, when you take it out next day you will need to re-spin, so you would only need to blend the bottom half, love your videos !
I love my Ninja Creami so I'm glad you enjoyed it as well. I like to make a bigger batch of ice cream base then just divide them up in the tubs in the freezer until I want some ice cream. The noise is VERY loud but it works so well I can't complain. I think it is pretty much is like a drill press and everything about the setup is making sure the container is in exactly the right alignment so that the blade doesn't hit the sides of the container.
It's so fun trying different flavors with an icecream base! My favorite is blueberries with cardamon, it sounds exotic but it's really popular in my country.
I have the smaller model - a couple of observations. As others have said, you can run the tub under a tap, so you don't get frozen banana or ice cream along the sides of the pot. But I find it easier to just take it out of the freezer and leave it on the counter for 10-15 minutes before creamifying. If you take it out of the freezer, and it is raised in the centre, you shouldn't process it like that, as it can deflect the blade. Let it defrost a little, then scrape the top with a spoon, so you start with a flat surface. One of my favourite sorbets is just a can of mango puree in juice, frozen and processed. If the icecream isn't smooth, add a spoon of milk, before respinning. For a very easy frozen dessert, buy some Angel Delight. Make it up as instructed on the pack, freeze, then creamify. The butterscotch is superb as is the chocolate.
I love my Ninja! I just have a "regular" one and my favorite, very easy to make, ice cream is lemon curd (or marmelade, whatever mood I am in) yoghurt. Just full the tub - just under the maximum line - with greek yoghurt. Ad lemon curd (or marmelade) up to the line (taste!) and freeze it. Spin 24 ours later at the gelato setting and there you are: perfect ice cream! (And you can try it with other jams and jelly's!)
This is based off the professional ice cream maker that are used in restaurant kitchens called a paco jet. The professional ones cost over 5k. The patent for the 'paco jet' expired a few years ago and ninja basically copied it at made it for home use as a cheaper price point and called it the ninja creamie. I like this a lot. It's lot more practical than ice cream maker. Yes, you have to freeze the mixtures for 24h, but you can keep premade tubs in the freezer and take them out when you want ice cream. Also it's much faster than an ice cream maker. My ice cream maker takes 40 minutes and ice cream is still soft when it's done so it has to go in the frezer again. I also like that you can just freeze fruit or juice and have sorbet in few minutes. Also, it doesn't take that much room. It's loud but it's for couple of minutes. I will probably buy it :).
Yeah, it seems like a great one. I want to see more tests with healthier alternatives though. Can it make a slushy with flavored water or just something delicious from fruit and plain yoghurt alone.
i consider this appliance to be the best kitchen invention since the microwave and dishwasher, it's so useful. As for the noise, it's going through solid ice, cut it some slack ;)
I have the smaller one and I love mine. I live alone and can make low sugar, low ingredient number ice cream a lot cheaper and tastier than most of the store bought stuff.
I got the original model earlier this year when it was really cheap. I've used it almost every day since I got it. I love that I can make lower calorie, lower sugar, high protein ice cream. The only thing I dislike is the noise!
First to make perfectly clear. I bought mine after seeing another TH-camr compare the Creami to the restaurant appliance that it's a copy of. It's my only Ninja appliance and well i love it. It's imo not a glorified mixer it's more like a drill press. My favorite things to do are freeze puddings (American pudding) or just make sorbets. But a good vanilla base with crushed Oreos added at the end and mixed in with the toppings function is a fantastic amazing treat.
The top/bottom is so you can do only half. If it is full, use the top setting. If you have already done a "top" you then use the bottom and it will skip the top half (which is empty)
good stuff. the fruit sorbets this thing kicks out are pretty great. making fresh fruit into different sorbet was pretty much all we did last summer. I recommend raspberry with a little bit of fresh lemon juice to make it pop.

We have the first model. We tired a can of pineapple. Absolutely nothing added and the result was amazing. Can’t believe it was just a can of pineapple. It was creamy and smooth!
Its really awesome for making light & protein ice creams too. Also, its not perfect, but taking just whole chocolate milk (or other flavors), freeze it, toss it on light-ice cream, add a little bit more milk after spinning (you'll see it being almost like a powder at this stage) then spinning it on light-ice cream again makes ice cream for the laziest of people. The milk I tried it with resulted in something very reminiscent of a frosty.
One of my workmates has one of these and she loves it. She recently told me she's going to try making Dole Whip in it when pineapples are a little cheaper here in New Zealand. Could be worth trying!
Just got one of these and made my first ice cream with it today. Banana Pumpkin Spice. I mashed two large ripe bananas then used an immersion blender to mix in with all the other ingredients. Another video suggested using an alcohol based flavouring extract (i.e.. vanilla) to prevent the ice cream from freezing into a solid block if the container is returned to the freezer after enjoying a portion. Very happy with this purchase so far.
I was waiting for the bang when you tried to spin only the bottom a full tub. You are supposed to spin just the top if you want half a port5, then next time you spin the bottom half. Also, checking the temperature of your freezer is important to ensure it's in the correct range. I also agree the shakes are really nice, especially when made with your own ice cream. The idea is an old one, commercial kitchens have been using the PacoJet for years
I have an older model of this and I love it. My favorite is sorbet that uses one apple, one banana and one small can of crushed pineapple, and that's it. This is the ultimate "Will it Icecream?" machine! (Also the noise will always make me afraid that the neighbors will come ring my doorbell.)
@@Lor_D_Richafa no liquids needed, just peel the apple and cut it and the banana to smaller pieces and combine all three. It's important that the icecream base is frozen to one solid chunk in the container before spinning.
I think my favorite is just straight canned fruit, especially pineapple. No prep work besides open can, pour into the container and freeze, and the result is pure fruit so it's a fairly healthy dessert.
Bought a creami 2 years ago and have only used it as a 'milkshake' maker. More along the lines of making thinner ice-cream with addins. McFlurry, vortex, blizzard, ect. Just purchased a ninja slushi. Looking into recipes to try
As someone who loves the creami, there are two things you NEED to do do have the machine work optimally. 1. Leave the pint out at room temp for 15 mins before spinning. This makes you need to respin far less often. 2. Before spinning, run hot water around the outside of the pint for a minute or so. This will help to reduce ice crystals from the outside of the pint.
Finally an honest review :). Barry i think you may need to invest in an affordable db meter, the loudness never really comes thru. I've seen mixed results with the Creami.
I think the point of the bottom function is for if you are like remixing some of what you have left in a container if you didn't eat it all or if you only made a small amount. I was also thinking that it could be if you have whole fruit that has sunk to the bottom then to can have it spend more time on the bottom where the frozen fruit is.
Yes, it's very noisy. I keep mine in the garage next to my upright freezer where I have the frozen mixes stored. Start a batch, vacate the garage and come back when it's done. Works for me.
I had one for a week while the ice cream was ok it is absolutely more trouble than it’s worth. If you want a fun ice cream making night just get one of those rock salt and ice bucket versions, that way when your over the fad it was cheap and doesn’t take up any space lol The worst thing about the ninja is if you don’t eat the whole container every time you want some more you have to re mix it again which as a midnight snack is a jaring sound for the house to wake up to.
I have had one for months now. It,s great for us as we are gluten free and dairy free. I have 3 tubs in the freezer at all times ready. I find if you take the tub out for about 5 mins before you churn helps with the noise level and smoothness of the ice cream. Great video
This reminds me of the milkshake machines at the gas station. You get out a cup out of the freezer of your choice of flavor, then peel the lid off and put it into the machine. It has a mixer like that and it squirts hot water in while mixing. Out comes a milkshake.
I think the whole bottom button is for when you only want a portion of the ice cream in your pot. You can churn the top, eat that bit, then put the rest of the pot back in the freezer to churn the bottom another day. Or for when the full churn doesn’t work completely, but you just need the bottom worked on and you don’t want to rechurn the entire thing.
You should try adding tiny ddeok pieces(korean mochi) to your ice creams. Also try making mugwort and ddeok ice cream or Injeolmi (korean soy powder mochi) ice cream.
I can’t have dairy or gluten, so my mother bought me one of these as a present which at the time they consider sending back because I knew how expensive they were But I am so glad that I never did it because even though it’s noisy, it’s one of my favourite kitchen kits iPhone wouldn’t you’ve taken it out the freezer? Leave it for 3 to 5 minutes just so it’s not frozen solid sometimes we need to leave it for 10 minutes before spinning it otherwise it does look a bit icy. Also no matter what we always spin it 2 to 3 times pushing down in between each spin and then re-spinning after this makes it so smooth it’s amazing It’s also great for the kids because I’ll just take things like a tin of pineapple and add coconut milk to make dole whip, or a can of rice pudding and make rice pudding ice cream or even tips of custard and make a frozen custard it’s so easy It’s great as well because we don’t waste any fruit because we freeze it all that’s leftover and then make various smoothie shoes in it No, everyone comes to us to have tubs of ice cream made for them hahaha
Just want to say for anyone who is or has a family member on medical liquid/puree diets this can be a great edition for ppl who tolerate cold temps (or who find that helpful with nausea etc) for being able to eat more easily and have things that taste good! It's easy to add protein power, blended cortage cheese, or cans of meal supplements in to the freezer mix and you can regulate the amount of sugar as well. I am on a very restricted diet and it has been so helpful to have esp as I look after my own meals and some days am too tired. Very helpful to be able to just pop a frozen container into the machine and eat as is or turn into a milkshake by using ensure instead of milk for the added nutrition. :)
I loved this video, Barry. Great job! I was thinking of getting this device and just using it to make low sugar and low calory treats for everyday in summer. It seems to work great for their own recipes, but I don't want to eat this much sugar all the time. Could you maybe test stuff like... what happens when you just put flavored water in there, plain yogurt or more versions of banana sorbe.
Apparently you can use it to make really smooth herb-butter. Just chuck in the cold blocks of butter along your chosen herbs. You'd end up with a smoother butter than what you'd get if you do it normally.
you can make savory stuff too. Look at the original Paco Jet that Ninja copied for what you can do. Paco Jets are in every fine dining resturant. Used for purees and lots of stuff.
I get a tub out 10-15 mins before I need it depending on ambient temperature and rarely need to respond but if I do ………it’s still well worth it! I love my little basic version!!! 😊
I have been recommended this Ice Cream maker from all over the fitness and bodybuilding community because of how easy it is to make "healthy" protein ice cream with it. Very interested in what you think of it mate!
I've mixed up a few of the protein milks+pudding mixes for my wife, she loves them. Using protein powder is not really recommended though as it separates during freezing and makes the mixture grainy after blending. You can make other healthy things in them as well which is... interesting to say the least i've made a kale, carrot and apple sorbet which was good but needed sweetening since freezing removes some of that taste.
Well, to quite Troy McLure; "Are you sure it's on? I can't hear a thing!", my goodness that thing sounds louder than a vacuum cleaner, they need to supply hearing protection with it methinks.......... :S
Here are a few tips: 1) Freeze the ice cream mixture for 12--24 hours. 2) Before spinning, run warm water over the sides of the pint for 20-30 seconds. 3) After the first spin, use a small spatula to scrape the icy sides. 4) Re-spin and enjoy.
Barry please get the Ninja Combi 14 in 1 cooker. It isn't just an air fryer. It bakes, steams, acts like a hob, air frys, cooks toast, pizza, pasta, rice, will do rice and meat at the same time, cake rises amazingly, you need to try it!!!! I looked at the Creami and thought it's ok but I don't need it. I did however need the Combi.
Made milkshakes all the time. Just ice cream in tall glass, milk poured up 3/4 top. Long spoon up and down. 3-4 minutes later, milkshake. Only one thing to clean, the glass you drink it out of.
It's basically a cheap, small scale version of some industrial ice cream maker that is so expensive, you don't get told the price until you contact the company(can't remember the name). Ninja machines can take a bit of trial and error, but once you get them, you get them.
The original industrial version is the Pacojet. It costs $6500. The Ninja Creami exists because the patent ran out on the Pacojet. Chris Young has a great video comparing the two products.
I've had a Ninja Creami breeze for over a year! A brilliant tip for anyone with one is: when I take it out the freezer I fill up a bowl or saucepan with hot water and sit the tub in it for like a minute, this prevents the edges of the tub from remaining icey and just not creamified, it sticks otherwise
My brother had got on a strict banana diet a couple years ago. He and his wife cut out majority processed food and ate almost nothing but bananas. They used to make banana ice cream in the blender.
You should scrape down the hump in the middle of the frozen base. It will keep your machine from breaking down. I microwave my frozen tub for 30 seconds to 1 minute before spinning, and sometimes I add a splash of milk, water, juice to get it nice and creamy. The bottom setting is for when you only want half the pint, you blend the top, and then when you are ready for the bottom you can just do the bottom setting.
I had the second one which had a few more settings than the first. Then the came out with the one that didn't require the extra bowl. It sticks out the front at an angle, i have it now. I love them! I've made avocado ice cream. Smash in some avocado, add monk fruit, a dash of milk or cream or whatever to make it creamier. Steam some squash, etc. I have 6 containers. Can make 6 different ice cream or gelatos.
Its honestly a great product not really much negative things about it, i would personally go for the deluxe like you its just built better, In addition to using this for ice cream i also highly recommend using this to make herb/garlic butter. Also i would recommend running it with the lid under warm water to help on the edge not sticking to the inside that much on the banana one. also a good tip with the sorbet making is using half the amount of sugar and water than the amount of fruit this gives the best sorbet consistency
The top blends just the top half of the jar, leaving you with the bottom half still frozen solid. To blend up the remaining you use the bottom setting. Think of it as portion control
The Ninja Creami is an awesome bit of kit. You have to make sure the tubs thaw for a bit before running it through though. The lads at Sorted did a good review of it a while ago as well.
You should have made a frozen coffee drink of some sort 🙂 It looks like a pretty cool machine! Our blender, not sure of the brand, makes soups and stuff and is super loud.
I have one of these and it's the most dangerous machine I've ever bought... Because it's so GODDAMN GOOD. I've discovered you can buy soft serve mix and make perfect soft serve. With zero effort. My kitchen has filled with add-ins and flavourings and I keep inviting people over for ice cream. Send help. My waistline! Great video Barry!
I'd be surprised if the motor doesn't fail within a year, especially if used regularly. That's a lot of strain on parts that I doubt are very robust. I have one of their pump driven coffeemakers, and many reviews mention pump failure within 18 months or so. I'm approaching that milestone with some nervousness.
Hey, Barry! To eliminate that outer skin you get where the blades don't scrape the sides, you're supposed to let it thaw for about 15 minutes before whizzing. The "bottom only" is supposed to be used when you only have stuff in the bottom of the container.
There’s a girl I follow who I can’t remember her name ATM but she got this sickness and can only eat like 13 foods now. She uses this with watermelon. It looks so good.
Apparently if you add a food stability gum, it makes the ice cream better and last better. I remember people saying the next day it tends to be icy etc but adding gums helps. I'm so tempted to get one but the cost makes me wonder if I eat enough ice cream 😂
You need to try chocolate gelato recipe from the book, it's amazing 😍 good quality dark chocolate (I love using 80%) and they are the best chocolate ice cream I ever ate

I have one and its amazing for making dairy free ice cream, i also freeze my protein shake and turn it into a low cal ice cream!
Good luck for getting to 1M subs!!!
We have the regular one and absolutely love it!!
I bought my granddaughter one last Xmas as she loves ice cream, and I’d love to try a Cornish clotted cream ice cream and one with runny toffee sauce.
I always wait about 10 minutes before using mine. I've heard it's better for the blades and mixes much better.
It says to do this in the instructions. Much smoother mix when you do
Barry, I love your proper review of the Ninja Creami deluxe! Absolutely brilliant! Thank you!
Just love this video, with the music!
That milkshake looks incredible, I'd probably buy just for that lol
It was very good! I think it's probably a nice impatient thing to make with it!
It's £250 quid!
@@Nanonic001 The smaller one (not delux) costs less. I saw it for about $160 American, about £125 British
Gotta love Mrs. B "Do you need that?" As she starts walking away, lol😂
That strawberry recipe was the first on we tried with our Ninja Creami and omg...it's remarkable
I had one for a week while the ice cream was ok it is absolutely more trouble than it’s worth. If you want a fun ice cream making night just get one of those rock salt and ice bucket versions, that way when your over the fad it was cheap and doesn’t take up any space lol
The worst thing about the ninja is if you don’t eat the whole container every time you want some more you have to re mix it again which as a midnight snack is a jaring sound for the house to wake up to.
My face at 15.30 when Barry is talking about spinning the bottom only with a full tub 🤯. Barry, Barry, Barry.....
I have had one for months now. It,s great for us as we are gluten free and dairy free. I have 3 tubs in the freezer at all times ready. I find if you take the tub out for about 5 mins before you churn helps with the noise level and smoothness of the ice cream. Great video
Any good dairy free ideas?
This reminds me of the milkshake machines at the gas station. You get out a cup out of the freezer of your choice of flavor, then peel the lid off and put it into the machine. It has a mixer like that and it squirts hot water in while mixing. Out comes a milkshake.
The most appropriate reaction to being handed a Hagen Daaz infused milkshake. "Do you need this?" *leaves quickly with milkshake in hand*
Ginja or Ninja? A ginger Ninja? 😁
Now I really want to try ginger ice cream. Please attempt this if you haven't done it already.
Good call!
@@mrbarrylewis five spice ice cream 😮
@@mrbarrylewis I made ginger ice cream by adding ginger jam to greek yoghurt. To give it a bit more kick, I added some candied ginger. Love it!
Five spicecream@@Chaos_Senpai
hmm, pumpkin spice ice cream?
This ice cream gadget looks so neat 👍🏻
I can’t have dairy or gluten, so my mother bought me one of these as a present which at the time they consider sending back because I knew how expensive they were
But I am so glad that I never did it because even though it’s noisy, it’s one of my favourite kitchen kits
iPhone wouldn’t you’ve taken it out the freezer? Leave it for 3 to 5 minutes just so it’s not frozen solid sometimes we need to leave it for 10 minutes before spinning it otherwise it does look a bit icy.
Also no matter what we always spin it 2 to 3 times pushing down in between each spin and then re-spinning after this makes it so smooth it’s amazing
It’s also great for the kids because I’ll just take things like a tin of pineapple and add coconut milk to make dole whip, or a can of rice pudding and make rice pudding ice cream or even tips of custard and make a frozen custard it’s so easy
It’s great as well because we don’t waste any fruit because we freeze it all that’s leftover and then make various smoothie shoes in it
No, everyone comes to us to have tubs of ice cream made for them hahaha
Mrs. B: Do you need this?
Barry: **Chooses well**
Everytime I see an Ice cream it reminds me of the classic Simpsons Ooh! Ice Cream-Ville!" -"No, Screamville. Ahhhhh !! 😂😂
Here are a few tips:
1) Freeze the ice cream mixture for 12--24 hours.
2) Before spinning, run warm water over the sides of the pint for 20-30 seconds.
3) After the first spin, use a small spatula to scrape the icy sides.
4) Re-spin and enjoy.
I luv my Cuisinart ice cream makers. Great videos
Always funny to watch you. Think I'm not going to buy this, its louder than any drilling machine I know 😂
I've had a Ninja Creami breeze for over a year! A brilliant tip for anyone with one is: when I take it out the freezer I fill up a bowl or saucepan with hot water and sit the tub in it for like a minute, this prevents the edges of the tub from remaining icey and just not creamified, it sticks otherwise
The ginger… you mean the ninja?
My brother had got on a strict banana diet a couple years ago. He and his wife cut out majority processed food and ate almost nothing but bananas. They used to make banana ice cream in the blender.
Ninja Slushi maker next please ? ❤
Wow they wrote a short story for their review. They must love their ice cream machine 😮
Hi!! I want to get one, it looks interesting .
So what happens if you don't eat it all in one go. You made the full tub creamy. Will it get back to solid if you put it back in the freezer?
Ooooh. Right? Usually air is incorporated into ice cream to keep it soft. This stuff looks really thick. I think it would probably refreeze.
It's 11 in 1...if you count the 'mix in' and 're-spin' functions! 😉(now watch that I posted this before it comes up later in the video!)
I love my Creami!
There were some pretty mixed reviews about them, glad you like it, I was impressed!
You’ve got peas in your drain!! Great review I like it
The top blends just the top half of the jar, leaving you with the bottom half still frozen solid.
It looks so good.
it's the noise- cant make a milkshake at midnight-LOL
Apparently if you add a food stability gum, it makes the ice cream better and last better. I remember people saying the next day it tends to be icy etc but adding gums helps. I'm so tempted to get one but the cost makes me wonder if I eat enough ice cream 😂
You need to try chocolate gelato recipe from the book, it's amazing 😍 good quality dark chocolate (I love using 80%) and they are the best chocolate ice cream I ever ate
