Where does this reputation keep coming from?! Who decided cuisinart was a good brand and when? They weren't good before. They aren't good now. I can only begin to guess that this is literally based on it being the best (read: most expensive) brand sold at walmart and target over the last 10 years. I bought a Ninja Creami 5 months ago and have used it almost every day since. I don't see how any other type of machine can be easier than the Creami. This thing is huuuge and still won't chill the bowl and you also have to put the mix into the fridge first!? Instead it's packed with useless features like the topping dispensers, cone holder and the "keep warm station".
Got the same kind of ice cream machine idea, for like 20 bucks 5 years ago. This isn't really any different, just bigger and way too overpriced. It's the same manual work too.
Hmmm, I got one of these years ago and don't remember having any of these issues. Yours is obviously an updated model. I haven't used it in a couple of years (it is huge) so now I want to pull it out and try it again!
Same here, I never had any issues with the use of it. The issues I had were mostly having to plan ahead to have the appropriate parts frozen. And the fact that it's a single use appliance that takes up a lot of space. Really, people are making this out to be a horrible product when really it isn't. It's just a product that probably should have been considered obsolete a few years ago and replaced with a version with a built in compressor.
I saw this reviewed on Sorted Food channel, and they could not get it to work at all as it kept freezing up solid. They also mentioned the issued with it being difficult to clean. So seems like this is a no go for ice cream.
I have the KitchenAid Ice cream maker - same type of bowl, dasher and a small piece that snaps on and holds the dasher. I use mine frequently. I store the bowl in the freezer (covered with a silicone lid that attaches snugly) upside down. I always make an egg yolk based custard on the stove. It's super easy to clean up (Just 3 parts that are easily hand washed). The cooked ice cream base makes the difference in the taste.
I have the Cuisinart ice cream maker which looks like the top half of this device without the spigot and dispensers. It also has a larger "bowl". You freeze the "bowl" overnight then pour in the ingredients and it mixes it into an ice cream. It works really good and by looking into the clear lid, you can decide when your ice cream is the right consistency, AND you can pour your toppings into it and have it mix it as well.
I make my own “soft serve” whenever I want to by taking normal ice cream and stirring it with my spoon until it’s the consistency I want. Much less time consuming and cheaper than investing in this machine, which let’s face it, is a cool novelty the first couple of times, than will most likely end up under your counter never to be used again
My Mom only ever bought vanilla ice scream. Thanks for bringing back the memory of my Granny letting the ice cream soften, then stirring in Hershey's Chocolate Syrup and mixing it up to make Chocolate soft serve ice cream!
Exactly! My mom taught me that trick when I was little. Still do it today whenever I’m in the mood. Not to mention, you can still also opt for hard ice cream by doing nothing at all. This monster of a gadget only makes soft serve, and you either always have to have some pre-mixed in the freezer or wait over a day to have it. Annoying and completely unnecessary.
I'm glad you reviewed this! ;) I think my Ninja Slushie makes amazing soft serve and it's very easy to clean. The Topping Dispenser is goofy lol I think just leave that topping Dispenser out. Then you got to clean all that put your unused toppings back. Eh
Wowww, fancy. My wife and I feel old watching this. In my day we cranked an ice cream bucket to make ice cream or go to a Dairy Queen. Now you can buy a fancy thingy to make it home.🍦😯
Some of my best memories was us kids arguing over who was gonna get to sit on top of the ice cream bucket to hold it down while my parents cranked it. THE best ice cream ever 👍
A common theme with ice cream makers that require freezing the bowl ( vs having an internal chiller) is that the bowl and ingredient prep are very important. You need to get the bowl to be solidly frozen in order to have it be cold enough. Your ice cream mix should be nearly frozen as well, so it needs less cooling during the process. I've made good ice cream dozens of times in a tropical environment with this kind of setup. It takes more waiting time than a chiller type machine but it costs a lot less.
It looks like there's an attachment for the Kitchenaid stand mixer to make ice cream. Also, any mix you add that isn't a true ice cream custard before it's frozen won't taste like real ice cream. That means cooking it with eggs and the whole shibaz before it goes into the machine. Peace and Love 🌈🌞✌️💕
Those machines will cost a lot more. But also be quicker. My local place can go from liquid mix in a carton all the way to serving in 10 minutes. But their machine cost more than my car.
I have a cuisinart ice cream maker with a compressor. It’s amazing. It takes less time to make the ice cream, and no freezing the bowl first. It doesn’t have anything like toppings, but it works.
Ok I figured it out. It sounds like a lawn mower to trick you into thinking it’s summer and ice cream time. Cuisinart is becoming the Bell and Howell of food brands.
I find it works best with just straight half and half cream. We keep our bowl in the freezer all the time so it's ready to go at a moment's notice. You don't need 24 hours to freeze the bowl if you have a decent freezer. We have made ice cream after 8 hours in our deep freeze.
this device looks so ghetto , my ninja slushie works so good, i bought 2 extra ones to keep in my garage so ill never not be without it, im obsessed with the ninja slushi , its just so easy to clean and operate, it takes about 15 min to make soft serve
I have an ice cream maker that takes a similar approach. The frozen metal bowl with the spatula turning bit. It doesn't have all the extra fancy stuff, dispenser or the toppings. I don't know that you really need them. It works much like that one. But I just came to the conclusion that I prefer buying as to making it. Idk, I might revisit it. As I've completely shifted my diet away from pre made or restaurant made food. I eat almost all organic/natural food these days and my body thanks me for it. So I could try it again as ice cream isn't really part of my diet these days.
Thank you so much for this full review. I am thinking about getting one of these but I hadn't decided. I like to make ice cream because the stuff they sell at the store has too much sugar. This way I can substitute the sugar for stevia.
they tried one out on sorted food and could not get it to make icecream without it blocking the outlet, you managed to do it, they wanted feedback from other owners on what they were doing wrong
So a couple things. I know that in order for viewers to see the process you have to dispense from behind the machine but holding the cone or bowl closer to the dispenser while swirling a bit makes a more uniform ice cream. Second is the dispenser handle is pressure sensitive switching to the down position starts the dispensing but holding down the handle with firm pressure should make it dispense faster. Of course not too hard coz that's going to break it, but enough pressure to make the dispensing faster and holding it closer.
I have their ice cream maker that, for the cold bowl and churner, looks remarkably similar. We had a difficult time making the ice cream with a consistency harder tan soft serve so this is almost a good remanufacture of the device. Taste-wise the frozen treats were yummy but needed at least double the amount of time for churning with a 'bowl' frozen for days and the mixture also partially frozen. We did find the bowl for the device was not convenient for freezing. It takes up too much room and needs to be in the freezer too long to work at all.
Soft serve typically has less milk fat. I worked for Dairy Queen in the 70’s, which called their soft serve ice milk. It seems like Cruisinart uses the same chemicals in the freezing bowl as any other ice cream maker. It just that you’re serving it sooner. If they did a little research, I’m sure they could have found a chemical combination that doesn’t cool to too low temperatures so the ice cream remains softer for longer.
I've got the perfect answer to this get your favorite ice cream at your local store and put in the freezer, then when you want an ice cream go to your fridge no pre freezing and no waiting for things to get cold in your freezer or fridge. May be a few cents dearer but no problem.
I wish I could but the closest grocery store for me is over an hour away and I live in the desert where 3/4 of the year it is over 100f. It was still 100-110 all last week, the first week of October. Ice cream doesn't make it home frozen even in a cooler with ice. It is always soup by the time I get home and then refreezing it makes it taste like freezer burn. That was my main reason for buying a Creami but after tasting the recipes and how amazingly good they are the store bought ice cream just doesn't compare.
You seem to have much better results that the Sorted Food guys who found it froze up too much and struggled to churn after a little while. This one does seem to be expensive for what it is, and with Cuisinart making complete ice cream makers that has the freezing element built in for £50-100 more it seems pointless (Though I expect that doesn't make soft serve), also it's too bulky for what it is, the topping dispenser and syrup warmer seem like gimmicks that just add bulk.
Two cups of heavy cream, half cup of allulose sweetener or whichever one you prefer, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2 tablespoons of liquid allusose ( to keep it soft). Use your hand mixer to bring to stiff peaks and put it in the freezer for a few hours. Low carb and sugar free. No fancy equipment needed. You're welcome
Ninja Creami is still number 1 in my book. You still have to plan ahead but I grabbed a few extra pints so we have a couple of base favourites always frozen so if you get an ice cream craving you can just grab a chocolate or vanilla, spin, mix in, and consuuuuuuume! Protein shake masked as chocolate mint ice cream has completely re-invigorated my weekend exercise and food planning routine. The creami will also spin different flavours all day long if you freeze in advance where this has a hard cap on how much you can make due to the bowl and extra bowls take up way too much space in a freezer. Looks like about 6 pints to 1 bowl in physical size. Plus an extra bowl is 40 bucks where extra creami pints are dirt cheap.
I tried one of these from Cuisinart about 10 years ago. Didn't even last a year. All the gears are plastic and broke. Even the topping dispenser broke due to cheap plastic. Hope they fixed that major flaw with this updated version but I am happy with the Ninja Creami and would never go back.
Any home ice cream maker can make soft serve, you just stop the freezing process a tad early and eat it directly from the maker rather than putting it in the freezer to stiffen further. It doesn’t have the dispenser, but doesn’t seem like that works very well anyway.
Just saw this on sorted food, but I didn't trust it. They said it didn't work because it goes from not soft to too thick for the machine to churn REALLY quickly, but they used a COMMERCIAL freezer. I just figured it would have been too cold, and most people's home freezer it might be fine. It working for you seems to confirm what I thought.
🤣😂🤣 The ice cream comes out “Churro Style”….Orale🎶! “Banilla”! 🤣😂🤣. Reconfigure the machine….and you get “bite size Churros”. Your sprinkles said….”Here!”, stingy on the nuts! I couldn’t stop laughing! You are so funny! My Mexican neighbor makes great desserts without the mess, the wait, and without the “where is it?”. You’re AMAZING! 🫶😇
I have a similar device by Rival. I haven't used it in years, but it's much MUCH smaller than this, so at least it doesn't waste as much space. Also, its dispensing was far smoother than this thing seems to plop. Edit after finishing video... Considering how often he had to just stop and scoop it, I'm thinking I'd be better off just using my regular cuisinart ice cream maker if I wanted to make traditionally churned ice cream. Heck, I think this thing is actually getting it more frozen than my traditional does.
Most of these things are just I want it things for people who have money to burn. In most cases for most people they're not practical, they take up space that could be used for something that is practical and they take a lot of prep beforehand unless you're able to buy commercially made soft serve mix. I do have the Cuisinart ice cream maker but I got it at a reasonable price. I've used it once. You have to pre-freeze the bowl and it takes up a hell of a lot of space in the freezer. If you have a thermador or wolf or some other luxury brand freezer with tons of space that's dedicated specifically to freezer foods, then it might be a good buy.
when working with heavy whipping cream, it's going to have a greasy texture and whipped cream type flavor until you actually cook it. It's the fats in the heavy cream. If you put cold heavy whipping cream in a jar and shake it long enough you will get butter. So cooking your mixture is necessary. I am not a fan of uncooked mixes.
36 hours in the freezer💀. Think I'll just buy ice cream from the store.
You just keep that thing stored in your freezer so it's ready to go whenever.
@vinstinct yeah but you would have to eat over 100 servings of the ciusinart servings before you're saving money, and it takes a lot more work

This thing is huuuge and still won't chill the bowl and you also have to put the mix into the fridge first!? Instead it's packed with useless features like the topping dispensers, cone holder and the "keep warm station".
the choc poo ice cream falling on your hand had my laughing so hard
Got the same kind of ice cream machine idea, for like 20 bucks 5 years ago. This isn't really any different, just bigger and way too overpriced. It's the same manual work too.
Alright just in time for winter
I eat ice cream in winter 😅
@@Nenezilla in the cold outside it doesn't count when you indoors warm in the winter
It ain't winter for the whole world at once, just sayin
@@zarzee8925 yeah but most of us will be mostly from the US and yes it going to be winter
@@ricoviii1 How have you determined "most of us" is from the USA? Such a close minded American thing to say 😂
@@SmallSpoonBrigade I ended up getting a second freezer bowl bc it stressed me out that it needed to be in the freezer so long.
Close your eyes and listen to the (( oh the nuts are working. The nuts are working. Ahh sprinkles )) part 😂
Hi James! This looks like a big waste of money, glad it's not mine, lol. Thanks for another amazing review!
@8:35 the chaos had me dying 😂❤
So you almost have to make ice cream manually, to make ice cream......
It looks like It
It looks like there's an attachment for the Kitchenaid stand mixer to make ice cream. Also, any mix you add that isn't a true ice cream custard before it's frozen won't taste like real ice cream. That means cooking it with eggs and the whole shibaz before it goes into the machine. Peace and Love
🌈🌞✌️💕
If you have to put any part in the freezer it's not for me. The machine should be able to make ice cream directly.
Those machines will cost a lot more. But also be quicker. My local place can go from liquid mix in a carton all the way to serving in 10 minutes. But their machine cost more than my car.
You can get counter top ice cream makers with a compressor in the 200 dollar range that this thong almost hits.
We have made ice cream after 8 hours in our deep freeze.
this device looks so ghetto , my ninja slushie works so good, i bought 2 extra ones to keep in my garage so ill never not be without it, im obsessed with the ninja slushi , its just so easy to clean and operate, it takes about 15 min to make soft serve
who in their right mind would want to listen to that thing for 30 minutes just for some ice cream
Soft serve is my favorite! Add some chocolate chips and it is heaven
Home-made ice cream with real fruit is a delight!
Just saw this on Sorted Food as well. Curious to see if you have similar results.
Same
Thank you so much for this full review. I am thinking about getting one of these but I hadn't decided. I like to make ice cream because the stuff they sell at the store has too much sugar. This way I can substitute the sugar for stevia.
Watched this on sorted food and they tried to get this to work but didn’t have any luck.
they tried one out on sorted food and could not get it to make icecream without it blocking the outlet, you managed to do it, they wanted feedback from other owners on what they were doing wrong
Dude your face gave up the real review - love the honest reactions, sure helps make up a mind on a gizmo - Ta!
Recently found this channel and this video has me cracking up. Needed the laugh. The chocolate ice cream part 😂 the nuts went everywhere.
James LOVES that temperature probe. Haha.
That little cone in the holder was the cherry on top for me. 😄😄
I agree completely! When I want ice cream I don’t want to wait 24 hours!
@@ace25805I would move.
We have an ice cream maker attachment for our Kitchenaid mixer. It’s pretty similar to the Cuisinart but with fewer parts and easier to clean
I'll refrain from describing what that chocolate ice cream looked like coming out of the dispenser.
💩
Oh yeah. We all saw it.
Do a search for the hilariously cringe "Brown 25" scene from the 1970's movie called "The Groove Tube". 😂
McDonald's needs these
I tried one of these from Cuisinart about 10 years ago. Didn't even last a year. All the gears are plastic and broke. Even the topping dispenser broke due to cheap plastic. Hope they fixed that major flaw with this updated version but I am happy with the Ninja Creami and would never go back.
I would love to see a review on different electric ice cream machines!👍🤩🙏🏼
Buy a ninja creami.
Any home ice cream maker can make soft serve, you just stop the freezing process a tad early and eat it directly from the maker rather than putting it in the freezer to stiffen further. It doesn’t have the dispenser, but doesn’t seem like that works very well anyway.
Ninja Creamy seems to have this beat
I note that you also didnt mention how much waste there is considering the ingredients going in to what you got out.
"I got one nut! The nuts aren't working..." I died...thanks for the laugh haha
I had one years ago and it worked so much better! You could make beautiful cones and bowls of ice cream. It wasn't slow like that.
"Sorted" reviewed this also and it totally failed!
It looks like you need someone to teach you how to swirl it in a cone or cup 😂lol
Oh my you crack me up. I worked at a fast food restaurant in high school and they teach you how to make soft serve look better.
It's chaos in here! You make me laugh. That's why I like your videos. I am informed and amused. ✌️✌️✌️
I use the silicon covers to cover my ice cream base too. However, I don’t use that ice cream maker. It would take up about half my kitchen.
I WAS GOING TO ASK YOU TO REVIEW ONE OF THESE!! THIS IS SUCH A GOOD DAY!
Okay, never mind. Thanks!
The guys at "Sorted" tested this and it was a disaster.
Great review, as always, and I love when you digress 😊
This review was nothing more than a Sweet Mess 😁👍
when working with heavy whipping cream, it's going to have a greasy texture and whipped cream type flavor until you actually cook it. It's the fats in the heavy cream. If you put cold heavy whipping cream in a jar and shake it long enough you will get butter. So cooking your mixture is necessary. I am not a fan of uncooked mixes.
Always wanted 2 ask you where you normally buy your t-shirts from? I can tell they are good quality👌🏾
