The descaler isn't meant to scrape the limescale off the kettle - it's 'sacrificial' - the CaCO2 will form around it, and not the kettle. Where I live, the water is exceptionally hard, and we use these all the time. When it looks like a rock, fish it out, put it in the bin, and put a new one in the kettle. Simple as that. But scouring the sides? Nope. To get that off, a kitchen towel (j-cloth type), soaked in distilled vinegar or lemon juice, wiped round the the sides will clean that fogginess up. Rinse the kettle out thoroughly a couple of times before you use it next. All done! 👍👍👍 The water on your poached eggs is condensation from the lid. Leave the lid off. The tree is being pushed down a bit, and surface water is probably getting in as well.
Been using the anti scale device for a while, when it gets full of CaCO2 you can also just roll it in your fingers under a running tap and all the scale will break off, pop it back in the kettle and you're good to go for another couple of months

Skip the cheapest ones under £20 but there's quite a lot of really decent machines around £30, very good for home use, just make sure to get one with dry and wet food modes. When using the coffee machine, keep in mind that the grind setting matters as if you have it wrong, it is more bitter or more sour. Some like it more to one side, and some coffees are better to one side. I am a big coffee hobbyist. Another thing to note is coffee is by weight. Standard is 18 grams for a double shot. Mainly, without milk, a standard espresso shot is 1 to 2. That means the weight of the beans you put in, should be an output (pulsing the water) to make double. This is for how it is done in most American coffee shops. Some European places do a 1 to 1, I think.

I lived 5 years in Japan and in their flats out there they only have space for hobs normally, so I invested in a toaster oven similar to this. It’s the best cooking gadget I had living out there. It was an outside in cooker, but I still managed to bake my cakes in it. The ‘handles’ on the sides of it is really to prevent you from knocking it over.
The American section in your store is lying to you. Nobody in the US gets hotdogs in jars. They're sold in sealed packs of 8 that have to be refrigerated.
Barry - Harpic works extremely well at removing limescale and you can drizzle it down the inside of the kettle which will coat it. Then add a small amount of water and boil it, preferably near the sink as it will foam right up. A couple if boil cycles and it will get rid of most, if not all and one bottle costs very little and lasts ages.
My mum used to use a metal wire ball in her kettle about 25 years ago. It didn’t clean the sides of the kettle, but would collect all the limescale from the hard water. It’s amazing how simple things can bring back good memories of my mum. 😊
I have a double egg poacher from 1910 its 2 short cylinders like a double cooky cutter with a stick handle and cylinders with a bottom and a lid with tiny holes in them you put your eggs in and dunk them in boiling water (3 to 5 mins) and it works every time!
I think the "notches" on the toaster is to make sure you get a gap between the toaster and whatever it is next to, bit like you are meant to keep your air fryer a certain distance from other surfaces

One neat thing about the blender is the soup mode technically is made to COOK the soup using the friction of the blender blade. You can pour in uncooked vegetables, and cold water with a stock cube, and the soup mode will puree it and then cook it to steaming hot in one single pot.

Don't know if someone's said it yet, but the notches 11:52 I'm pretty sure are to give you some space when you place the appliance on a counter against a wall so you don't damage the wall with heat.
I have that exact coka-cola hotdog steamer and I love it. On a busy day i can load it up with hotdogs and leave them on keep warm for a while and everyone can grab and go. The only thing is, if you leave it on keep warm for a while, dont leave buns in it, they will get soggy. Or if you use extremely fresh buns they will be so soft you cant pick them up without breaking or falling apart.
You really shouldn't use regular zip-top bags in sous-vide machines. Water gets into them very easily because they're hard to seal, and they can leach harmful chemicals into the food when you heat them up, especially if you use the off-brand ones. At the very least, make sure it's a heavy-duty freezer bag, but ideally you want to use bags specifically made for sous-vide cooking. The bags themselves are relatively inexpensive, and you can actually vacuum seal them with a special machine for, like, ten to twenty bucks. Seems fussy, yeah, but it's well worth the investment.
LOVE my sous vide machine. If anyone is seriously thinking about getting one- it's better to invest in a vacuum sealer as well- you can pick them up for 20 quid. Much easier. Chicken done sous vide is sublime. Thanks for the video Barry. Hope you do another one like this 🙂
Cheers yeah, I know someone that cooks almost everything that way! Vacuum sealer all the way, maybe i'll do a sous vide video some time soon trying different things
Fun video as always. The notches on the toaster oven are spacers to prevent the hot surfaces from touching the wall/cabinet. I'd be wary about making your own rice flour and such in that expensive blender. Yes, you CAN do it, but the blender manuals usually warn that it can scuff/discolor the jar, so consult your manual.
For your Sous Vide in a zip lock, add your ingredients, then put the bottom of the bag in water and sink it until the water pushes the air out, then seal the top. It will give a better transfer of heat with less air in the bag.
So, the reason you can poach an egg in a sousvide, is because the coagulation point of the egg white and the egg yolk are different tempratures, an egg white will already start coagulating at around 65 degrees celcious, however the yolk doesnt coagulate until around 70 celcius. Furthermore, the reason it's important to do within the shell is because if you do it woutside of the shell you risk the yolk simply running out of the white and the shape gets all tangled and messy, it simply gives a nicer and more consistent result.
The limescale device has been around for a long time! I remember one in the kettle we used on the gas stove when I was a child! I am thankful that now,, with the use of a distiller for all drinking water, my glass kettle has never needed cleaning inside! 9 years of use and it's still pristine!
Whenever I bake a frozen pizza, I "doctor" it with dried herbs: sprinkles of basil, marjoram, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and/or Italian herbs. I realize the Italian herbs have those ingredients, but I like more of the garlic powder, oregano, and basil sometimes! Then I just bake as usual.
Man, will it blend is so nostalgic. One of the og TH-cam channels, i watched like every episode as a teen. I still think "don't breath this" when i see smoke
Tom Scott has a video about the numbers on toasters. He sets four toasters to 2 then starts them all at same time. While waiting for them to pop he explains why the numbers do not signify time. Unsurprisingly they all pop at different times.
Barry, the descaller isn't there to 'scrape the sides' of the kettle - instead, new limescale will form on it, rather than the kettle. Put it in the kettle and leave it there for a month and you'll see.
I would love to see you try out the Procook health grill that does everything (bake, grill, airfry, roast, dehydrate, stew, broil, slow cook, steam). I have one but was rather disappointed that it didn't come with any recipes to try out or much in the way of instructions! It has all been trial and error so far.
I love my Jura coffeemachine! Seeing this I really should use it more to make the fancy coffee that it can make and not just the regular coffee! Cool video!
You can't leave eggs longer in the water bath for the same result, it's one of the few you can't (within reason). It's because the proteins in the yolk and white are different. essentially you set temp for white doneness, and time dictates the yolk doneness. if you left it for longer it would look the same but the yolk will get jammier until it gets firm.
Tom scott did a piece on toasters and the numbers. some are minutes usually the expensive ones and the cheap ones tend to use a metal strip that expands with the heat then it will pop up at a certain point when the metal strip has expanded
As an American, Europeans and Brits need to know and understand that our hot dogs are sold cold in the deli case. They are NOT sold in cans or jars except as a novelty in the "international" aisle.
To get air out of the bags without a vacuum, seal the bag but leave a inch or so open, the submerge the bag in water all the way but keep the opening above water, this pushes all the air out; close the bag.
I am laughing that you filmed all the coffees in 1 day. i thought you would have filmed the coffee machine one over multiple days to be able to go through each function but you did it all in 1 day. hahaha, how many shots did you do and did you sleep that night? lmao.
Those sous vide poached eggs are good, but better if you fry in butter either side in a hot pan for 30 seconds each side. Perfect combo of fried and poached egg!

I'd be wary about making your own rice flour and such in that expensive blender. Yes, you CAN do it, but the blender manuals usually warn that it can scuff/discolor the jar, so consult your manual.
barry's enthusiasm is a breath of fresh air of youtuber reviewers. finally subbed to yah. you deserve it mate.
Oh, Barry. I thank you so much for reminding me of "Will It Blend?".
Imagine how good your coffee would be if you had a proper grinder. Those used pucks were an interesting texture for sure!🤔
We use to put a glass marble in our kettle.Worked great.
That Sous vide device looks like an ultra-sonic cleaner. 😃
I need that coffee machine in my life.
I can't believe you're still not at 1mil subscribers!
I've been watching your vids for years now and I'm absolutely in love!
I don't even like coffee but that machine was impressive
Tom Scott has a video about the numbers on toasters. He sets four toasters to 2 then starts them all at same time. While waiting for them to pop he explains why the numbers do not signify time. Unsurprisingly they all pop at different times.
My favourite gadget was the hot dog steamer 🤗🌭Thanks for sharing Barry 😜👍
Barry, the descaller isn't there to 'scrape the sides' of the kettle - instead, new limescale will form on it, rather than the kettle. Put it in the kettle and leave it there for a month and you'll see.
Not me trying work out how to ask my wife for a new espresso machine..
Lol. The excitement over the coffee machine! We’ve had a proper smart machine for a while now and love it!
Love how excited you were about all of it. Really want a sous vide now, and the blender.
Barry I work on behalf of the egg pun foundation would you be up for some work, we don't pay much but people say it is an œuf.
Crackin'
Dad jokes r us...
It was all white.
The notches are so you can't push it right in against a wall causing it to overheat. they are spacers to make sure there's airflow around the oven.
Cool video!
Those notches on the back and side of the oven are to give the oven air space around it.
Thanks Barry, you reminded me I still have a Chi Town pizza in the freezer I need to make
The notches on the toaster oven is so you don't push it up against the wall or other things, outside gets hot😊
Barry, you need to try that toaster that uses steam to toast the bread! I'll try and find you the make and model if you're interested!
Really enjoyed this format, although I feel it would be better to compare different price points for the same kind of appliance. Like a coffee maker
Tom scott did a piece on toasters and the numbers. some are minutes usually the expensive ones and the cheap ones tend to use a metal strip that expands with the heat then it will pop up at a certain point when the metal strip has expanded
the surface water with the egg poacher was probably runoff from the lid, running down the tree and onto the island
I love this new concept Barry!
Your Seal impression just gets me everytime lol
I need that coffee machine. Wow, it's awesome. Great video. Love these gadgets
the things on the back of the "tefal toaster" is so you dont put it to close to the wall, because it needs to vent.
As an American, Europeans and Brits need to know and understand that our hot dogs are sold cold in the deli case. They are NOT sold in cans or jars except as a novelty in the "international" aisle.
We do know and understand that, we can get them like that here. But we can also buy them in jars which are the ones Barry decided to try 😊

I love the hot dog steamer, the sous vide machine, oh the kettle cleaner was pretty cool too!! Thank you for some awesome content again Barry!
To get air out of the bags without a vacuum, seal the bag but leave a inch or so open, the submerge the bag in water all the way but keep the opening above water, this pushes all the air out; close the bag.
I am laughing that you filmed all the coffees in 1 day. i thought you would have filmed the coffee machine one over multiple days to be able to go through each function but you did it all in 1 day. hahaha, how many shots did you do and did you sleep that night? lmao.
It's amazing watching the 2400watt blender because mine around 350w 😂
some great gadts and machines there, coffee machine looks incredible
The blender channel, which comes to mind with blending broom stick, phones etc. Would for me be “will it blend?” 😂 I believe it was by Blendtec 🤔
Those sous vide poached eggs are good, but better if you fry in butter either side in a hot pan for 30 seconds each side. Perfect combo of fried and poached egg!
Will it bend !!!!! Fruity smoke don't breath it!!!!
That man is a legend 😂
