  • Tesla Model Y Two Year Review | 2020 Tesla Model Y | Owning a Tesla | Tesla FSD Beta | Tesla Model Y
    In this video I review what I like and don't like about the Model Y after owning it for just over 2 years. I also share service experiences with the car and whether I would consider buying a Model Y again, knowing what I know now with one of the early models.

    We took delivery of our 22 Y LR in June of this year. We took it on a 3600 mile trip from Ottawa to the East Coast of Canada with my wife and 2 boys (11 and 4). My wife was changed from a EV sceptic to a believer. There was never any issue with running low on charge before we were plugged into another supercharger. In every case the car was finished charging before my wife and boys were back in the car. We even ventured far from the Tesla Supercharger network in Cape Breton NS where there was free destination chargers available provided by Tesla and Parks Canada. It was an incredible trip that we will all remember. Our car was a flawless Fremont build that so far only has required windshield washer fluid. Looking forward to driving it during the winter next. Liked and subscribed 🙂

    I have a model y on order, expected delivery is November. I’ve watched quite a few videos of owners of Tesla’s and as with you almost all are very positive, I’m eagerly awaiting my pickup day. Thanks for your review 👍🇬🇧

    We own a 2020 LR Model Y with FSD as well. VIN #3300. Picked it up in mid March 2020, right when COVID hit. We now have 28,000 miles on it, and have done two 3,300 mile road trips from San Francisco to Denver and back. We had a few issues at first, which were taken care of by the service center, including a roof replacement since the original wasn’t lined up correctly on the car and it cracked. No charge, since under warranty. We still have the original Goodyear 20” tires, and plan to replace these in the next month or two. Great car!

    Thanks for your review. I was wondering in your Model Y was a AWD long range? I am planning to buy one of those and you have about the same mileage to do as I do and live in about the same climate

    For my thoughts on whether full self driving is worth it, considering the recent price increase: I LOVE FSD Beta - but is it still worth it?

    sounds like if it was purchased from a conventional dealer, everyone would be saying how crappy the service and the quality is, because it's a Tesla that people have shipped from the manufacturer, everything is A-OK.

      It's a car - like any other car, things will break. I went into it thinking it was low maintenance, but realize that this just means 'routine maintenance' (like breaks, oil changes, transmission service, radiator flushes). Those are definitely not an issue with the Tesla.

    Interesting that there was no cost of ownership dollars covered here. Even beyond the charging costs entailed over that many miles. Total cost of ownership when bought versus the present cost of buying one would also be interesting.

    Good information. I am enjoying my new 2022 Y LR after just 10 days of ownership. I do have one question: I can't figure out how to exit the full screen view of TH-cam. Both times I have used it, I have had to re-boot the screen to get back to the normal screen. Any suggestions?

    • @JohnVanDeVoort

      Welcome to the Model Y - wow 10 days! After 2 years, mine still feels like a new car to me. (I'm sure part of it is the software updates - I just received one today). For exiting full screen - most software versions out there have an 'X' in the upper corner that dismisses the screen to take you back to the Theater launch page. Newer versions (2022.28) will provide ability to minimize a video in the Theater, so you can still watch the video while accessing other car functions. You can find a lot of good info on forums or www.notateslaapp.com related to software features.
      Best wishes to you and your new car. I hope you enjoy MYLR ownership as much as I have!

    I noticed that you are pulling a small boat with your MY. Would you please provide some details (weight ?) specifically impacts on driving handing, performance and range. I plan to pull a single motorcycle with a towing weight of 1,500 lbs. which is well within Tesla specs for the factory installed hitch.

    • @JohnVanDeVoort
      @JohnVanDeVoort  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've pulled an aluminum fishing boat (16') and a 6x10 flat trailer behind both our Honda CR-V and the Model Y. I can feel every bump the trailer goes over in the CR-V, but barely notice it is there in the Tesla. Acceleration is also great (like nothing there); overall handling is great. As far as range, I can't speak to that since my towing is primarily in-town and not over-the-road. The only negative aspect I've felt in towing a trailer on the Model Y is that it disables autopilot. Adaptive cruise control still works fine.

    Soooooo these issues are basically not reliable issues. Just regular car ownership issues

    • @JohnVanDeVoort
      @JohnVanDeVoort  ปีที่แล้ว

      The paint at delivery and passenger window issue (both warranty repairs) were the only issues of the group that I consider outside of regular ownership expectation. Other things are normal car ownership squawks.
