- Sonic the Hedgehog CD prototype 510, referred to as CD Sonic the Hedgehog on the title screen, is the earliest known prototype of the game Sonic the Hedgehog CD for Mega CD produced May 10th, 1992. This prototype features a prominent "Comin' Soon" screen. It was 'discovered' by a group of fans called Sega Extreme in the summer of 2000. The game contains all the stages of the final game, but in a normal playthrough the player can only play the first three: Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos and Tidal Tempest. The rest can be viewed through the Level Select. This prototype contains several differences from the final game.

Especially when doing the super peel out.
Time monitor, blue ring monitor and super monitor. These items are unused now. But you still can find some of them in Palmtree Panic zone by using debug mode.

So the spikes at the very beginning of Collision Chaos were originally vertical. I have no idea why they'd change something like that; it makes sense to tell the player "you can't go here just yet", but making them lose a life in the process is unnecessary.

It's kind of funny the first time it happens, and it's hard to fall for it again. It was definitely a memorable moment as a kid.
The worst part is it ruins metals reveal somewhat
The underwater turns Tidest Temple into a really neat color scheme.

Seems like the robotisizers weren't in the prototype, because I mean, you have to be heartless to play Sonic CD and not destroy them/collect the time stones
I wonder why the special ring is higher than the spot of the finished version. If that was the final version, it's possible the good ending wouldn't exist.
The special stages probably weren't done for prototype 510.

I prefer the American Soundtrack but Tidal Tempest JP version though
I prefer the Japanese OST. The American soundtrack sounded demonic at points.
