Knuckles' bad ending is probably the creepiest. I don't know but the Floating Island sinking and during the final logo you don't even see him jump towards the screen like the rest of the characters seems rather vacant.
Even as a kid it bothered me that the plane sprite said "SONIC" mirrored when it looks to the left. Like they couldn't bother to make another sprite with the correct letters...
Other people took it upon themselves to fix not only this issue, but basically the entire game. They did this with a ROM hack named Sonic 3 Complete; so just watch Cybershell's video on it.

Knuckles' bad ending, on the other hand, is chilling. The island falls back into the sea, and we see Mecha Sonic get back up and charge up with the emerald once again, meaning that Knuckles didn't defeat him.
On Sonic 3 and Knuckles, I took the time to beat it 100 percent with every character like 5 years ago when I was 10. Did it with Sonic, Tails, Sonic and Tails, and Knuckles. Was very time consuming. But took me about a year.
i did it in 2 weeks sonic with super chaos emeralds 2 days tais the same with super emeralds 2 days knuckles the most boring story i played liked 3hours andwas bored
my guess is since knuckles has at least the chaos emeralds with that end that his super/hyper form make him strong enough to be able to pick up the master emerald.
I found it relatively easy compared to some *cough (sonic 2 final boss) other sonic bosses just for the simple fact you have rings. though super mecha sonic did take a few tries to beat because his hit windows are so small.
Well that wouldn't make much sense. If Knuckles is strong enough to knock the super state out of Sonic then he can lift the master emerald. He lifted it back to the spaceship in Sonic Adventure 2.
I don't think knuckles can simply punch a character out of their super forms if he could he'd be much harder in a fight and that super mecha sonic boss would be allot easier. I think that scenario was just a mixture of catching sonic off guard and hitting him hard enough to knock all the emeralds out of him causing him to loose his super form. As for sonic adventure 2 Knuckles seems to be using some sort of hammer space storage device cos at one point he pulls the master emerald out and its shrunk to the size of a normal emerald yet we'd clearly seen it was as big as him and rouge near the start of the game

They werr both essentially the very same game....Sonic & Knuckles was just a part 2 for it because Tales had to be excluded just so they could tell Knuckles story. And due to technological limitations in the game and sega system they couldn't have all 3 in the game at the same time so it was almost like a sonic 4 but it was a part 2 to the sonic 3 game
It’s kinda sad how in Knuckles’ bad ending it seems like a happy ending then you realise Angel Island is actually sinking back towards the sea, which means that Knuckles has failed to retrieve the Master Emerald. Then Mecha Sonic is recharged before your very eyes. And yet there’s happy music while Angel Island drops back into the sea to show your failure. Though I guess it isn’t so bad that Angel Island is just sitting in the sea, I mean it’s like a normal island, but it still has all the wildlife.
If look closely during Sonic 3's Bad Ending, Knuckles uses his player character color scheme instead of his NPC color scheme despite Knuckles not being playable in Sonic 3.
In early magazine screenshots of Sonic 3, NPC Knuckles used his player color palette, but it would cause the HUD to turn green. Not sure why they didn't just move some colors around, rather than just making his socks yellow.
I've always wondered, in the bad ending (no emeralds, playing as Sonic and Tails together), how could Tails fall so fast all the way down to Angel Island, pick up the Tornado and then fly all the way up again to save Sonic, before Sonic even left space? I mean, Tais was with Sonic on the Death Egg, so Sonic and Tails should have fallen down together at the same speed! And another thing, how did Tails even survive that fall?

Actually wrong, the "Floating Island" floats because of the power of the Master Emerald (the big green one). Robotnik stole it, and therefore the Island fell into the water. Robotnik tricks Knuckles against Sonic making him think Sonic stole the Master Emerald and that's the short for Sonic 3 story. That's why when you get the good ending where you get the Master Emerald back the Island goes back to the sky.

actually.. the death egg landed on angel island (after the events of sonic 2) so robotnik tricked knuckles into believing sonic would steal the emeralds but in reality robotnik needed them to repair the death egg..however robotnik succeeded to use emeralds for the death egg to launch but unfortunately sonic defeated robotnik at launch base zone causing the death egg to crash back on the island which why robotnik ultimately chose to steal the master emerald as a last resort

1:01 I really like that ending. I'm use to Robotnik just standing next to the master emerald but seeing Knuckles juggle the chaos emeralds was a pleasant surprise. I also like Knuckles' bad ending. It feels like an actual bad ending.
yeah i thought so, you've missed an ending. sort of. to get the secret game over ending, playing as knuckles and during the final battle against super metal sonic, you need to wait the full 10 minuties so it times out. watch the background while your doing this too, the island will be slowly sinking. dont blame yourself though, the super metal sonic is the dullest, easist fight in the sonic franchise so its very easy to miss.

However, a lone egg Robo survives Eggman’s defeat and starts to attack Knuckles. After he’s destroyed by Mecha Sonic, Knuckles defeats him and gets the master emerald back to the island after getting help from Sonic.

Knuckles then heads to Hidden Palace Zone to use the teleporter to get to Sky Sanctuary, where the Master Emerald is being held by the EggRobo and Mecha Sonic.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles: Knuckles without Emeralds: Sonic save him in the Tornado, he doesn't have the Master Emerald, we watch the island falling during the credits a after them Mecha Sonic appear with the Master Emerald. Knuckles with all Chaos Emeralds: Sonic save him, he has the Master Emerald, the island is raising during the credits. Knuckles with all Super Emeralds: Sonic save him, he has the Master Emerald and he is transformed, the island is raising during the credits. Sonic and Tails without emeralds: They lost the Emerald Master in the space, the other one save them, they go away during the credits and after them we watch Eggman with the Master Emerald. Sonic and Tails with all Chaos Emeralds: They have the Master Emerald when the other one save them they return it to the island, it starts to raise, the credits start and after then appear an Eggman's robot getting up. Sonic and Tails with all Super Emeralds: They have the Master Emerald and are transformed when the other one save them, they return it to the island, it started to raise when they go away we watch Knuckles grateful with them for help him and credits start.

While playing as knuckles, has anyone else ever noticed that very rarely after a boss battle, you will see the human Dr. Robotnick instead of the robot? I don't know if that happens by random chance, if you have a high score or if its its a glitch on my cartridge, but I can't find any other info about it online.
Back when Flying Battery was supposed to be in between Carnival Night and Icecap, Knuckles was supposed to skip the stage completely (He uses the teleporter). So, when they decided to bring Flying Battery to Sonic & Knuckles, they forgot to make Eggrobo sprites for the act 2 boss. There is also an uncommon glitch in Mushroom Hill that lets you fight Robotnik instead of Eggrobo. You can tell it's a mistake because Robotnik animates at the speed that Eggrobo bounces.

Spaized Well, it seems weird but that’s because it isn’t legit. That egg robo is the one that attacks knuckles in his story. The hard boiled heavies were made after Sonic 3’s story was over.
Note: when you play launch base act 2 as sonic with tails in sonic 3 the egg mobile takes only one character so tails didn't come with him (no respawn) sadly he was absent in sonic & knuckles until at the end he saved him although sonic saved knuckles while tails did in sonic 2 & knuckles. Because sonic 3 ain't complete yet in addition to Michael Jackson having already made some s3 soundtracks especially ending, it was supposed to be tails saving sonic and continuing to explore more in the floating island (the one Doujin created see that video) but it was changed to mj ending but looks still good
HardManbow Well only difference between the two is that you dont get the “Sonic 3 and knuckles” splash screen all the other super emerald endings get. Mainly because the super emerald endings aren’t really meant to be canon.

Mecha sonic is a very strong robot being beaten 5 times and the fifth time exploding but still surviving to get back on the master emerald and regain his health.
Honestly why do you sonic fans listen to sega when they said the super emeralds aren't canon I mean they can't even keep THEIR OWN CANON CONSISTENT so why should we believe the super emeralds aren't canon because they said so sure their series and I'm not saying you're not allowed to not think the super emeralds are canon I'm just telling you that it doesn't make sense to me to believe what is canon and what's not from the people WHO CAN'T EVEN KEEP THEIR OWN CANON STRAIGHT! Oh yeah I'm actually kinda glad that the canon isn't straight because that means we as fans can create our own timelines and we don't have to agree which one is canon but they can be our own timelines to what we think makes sense. Which further proves my point that Sega can't really say what's canon or not if ultimately they can't even keep THEIR own canon straight and so we have to make our own canon.
I like how Tails even with the chaos emeralds doesn't transform and fight the Doomsday boss, he just takes the Master Emerald and sky dives off the exploding Death Egg. Meanwhile Sonic needs to fight the boss in order to save the Master Emerald.

Robotnik tricks Knuckles against Sonic making him think Sonic stole the Master Emerald and that's the short for Sonic 3 story.
That's why when you get the good ending where you get the Master Emerald back the Island goes back to the sky.

actually.. the death egg landed on angel island (after the events of sonic 2) so robotnik tricked knuckles into believing sonic would steal the emeralds but in reality robotnik needed them to repair the death egg..however robotnik succeeded to use emeralds for the death egg to launch but unfortunately sonic defeated robotnik at launch base zone causing the death egg to crash back on the island which why robotnik ultimately chose to steal the master emerald as a last resort
So it breaks down like this.
1. No Emeralds: Bad Ending, Plot is unresolved, Tells you to get the emerald(s).
2. Chaos Emeralds: Okay ending. Gives you a good ending, but nothing substantial. Alludes to Knuckles' story.
3. Super Emeralds: Good ending. Extended scenes giving the story closure, Everybody cheers you on.

1:01 I really like that ending. I'm use to Robotnik just standing next to the master emerald but seeing Knuckles juggle the chaos emeralds was a pleasant surprise. I also like Knuckles' bad ending. It feels like an actual bad ending.

yeah i thought so, you've missed an ending. sort of. to get the secret game over ending, playing as knuckles and during the final battle against super metal sonic, you need to wait the full 10 minuties so it times out. watch the background while your doing this too, the island will be slowly sinking. dont blame yourself though, the super metal sonic is the dullest, easist fight in the sonic franchise so its very easy to miss.

that guy Here’s how it goes:
Sonic gets all chaos emeralds and defeats Eggman in doomsday. He retrieves the master emerald and leaves angel island with Tails. However, a lone egg Robo survives Eggman’s defeat and starts to attack Knuckles. After he’s destroyed by Mecha Sonic, Knuckles defeats him and gets the master emerald back to the island after getting help from Sonic.
@@dschou2532 Knuckles' story is after Sonic/Tails' story; after the Master Emerald is returned and Angel Island floats back up into the sky, an EggRobo that survived the Death Egg crashing steals the Master Emerald and throws a bomb at Knuckles. Knuckles then heads to Hidden Palace Zone to use the teleporter to get to Sky Sanctuary, where the Master Emerald is being held by the EggRobo and Mecha Sonic.
Well, this certainly brings me back. I played the Sonic 3 & Knuckles saga _obsessively._ My favorite 16-bit Sonic by _far!_
I haven't played these games in YEARS!! Perhaps it's high time I revisited them and see if Sonic 3 & Knuckles is as good as I remember it...
Sonic 3:
Sonic and Tails without emeralds: After the credits appear Eggman and Knuckles with the Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic and Tails with all the Chaos Emeralds: They do their final pose and transform in Super for the final image (Only Sonic).
Sonic 3 and Knuckles:
Knuckles without Emeralds: Sonic save him in the Tornado, he doesn't have the Master Emerald, we watch the island falling during the credits a after them Mecha Sonic appear with the Master Emerald.
Knuckles with all Chaos Emeralds: Sonic save him, he has the Master Emerald, the island is raising during the credits.
Knuckles with all Super Emeralds: Sonic save him, he has the Master Emerald and he is transformed, the island is raising during the credits.
Sonic and Tails without emeralds: They lost the Emerald Master in the space, the other one save them, they go away during the credits and after them we watch Eggman with the Master Emerald.
Sonic and Tails with all Chaos Emeralds: They have the Master Emerald when the other one save them they return it to the island, it starts to raise, the credits start and after then appear an Eggman's robot getting up.
Sonic and Tails with all Super Emeralds: They have the Master Emerald and are transformed when the other one save them, they return it to the island, it started to raise when they go away we watch Knuckles grateful with them for help him and credits start.
So with knuckles, if you get the bad ending, the island goes down, but if you get the good ending, it goes up THIS MAKES NO SENSE

While playing as knuckles, has anyone else ever noticed that very rarely after a boss battle, you will see the human Dr. Robotnick instead of the robot? I don't know if that happens by random chance, if you have a high score or if its its a glitch on my cartridge, but I can't find any other info about it online.
Timothy Duch It only happens with the boss of Flying Battery act 2. It was an oversight by the developers.
Back when Flying Battery was supposed to be in between Carnival Night and Icecap, Knuckles was supposed to skip the stage completely (He uses the teleporter). So, when they decided to bring Flying Battery to Sonic & Knuckles, they forgot to make Eggrobo sprites for the act 2 boss. There is also an uncommon glitch in Mushroom Hill that lets you fight Robotnik instead of Eggrobo. You can tell it's a mistake because Robotnik animates at the speed that Eggrobo bounces.

Note: when you play launch base act 2 as sonic with tails in sonic 3 the egg mobile takes only one character so tails didn't come with him (no respawn) sadly he was absent in sonic & knuckles until at the end he saved him although sonic saved knuckles while tails did in sonic 2 & knuckles. Because sonic 3 ain't complete yet in addition to Michael Jackson having already made some s3 soundtracks especially ending, it was supposed to be tails saving sonic and continuing to explore more in the floating island (the one Doujin created see that video) but it was changed to mj ending but looks still good

HardManbow Well only difference between the two is that you dont get the “Sonic 3 and knuckles” splash screen all the other super emerald endings get. Mainly because the super emerald endings aren’t really meant to be canon.

Honestly why do you sonic fans listen to sega when they said the super emeralds aren't canon I mean they can't even keep THEIR OWN CANON CONSISTENT so why should we believe the super emeralds aren't canon because they said so sure their series and I'm not saying you're not allowed to not think the super emeralds are canon I'm just telling you that it doesn't make sense to me to believe what is canon and what's not from the people WHO CAN'T EVEN KEEP THEIR OWN CANON STRAIGHT! Oh yeah I'm actually kinda glad that the canon isn't straight because that means we as fans can create our own timelines and we don't have to agree which one is canon but they can be our own timelines to what we think makes sense. I like how Tails even with the chaos emeralds doesn't transform and fight the Doomsday boss, he just takes the Master Emerald and sky dives off the exploding Death Egg. Meanwhile Sonic needs to fight the boss in order to save the Master Emerald.
