Certain details in this video are not 100% historic. Egyptian MiG-19s were S models while here we use the radar equipped P version. The Sinai map used here is a modern map and certain locations and airbases looked differently in the 1960s. Hurghada airbase is not modeled so another one was used instead of it. C-2 Greyhounds represent Israeli Noratlases. These are not mistakes but platform limitations and there's no need to comment on it.
One thing however is wrong. MiG-19 didn't carry any air-to-air missiles during the Six Day War. This information became obvious after all the scenes were done and there was no time for a re-shoot. Thank you for your understanding!

Most of the Shenyang F6's aka the Chinese Mig-19 where transferred over to the Iraqi Air Force during the Iran Iraq War and used as ground attack aircraft... Most intelligence points towards Egypt buying the jets for Iraqi use only and that the ones left in Egypt where used to train the Iraqi pilots on the jet. Great video on one of the lesser known Migs...

For a novel, and quite shocking take on Egyptian army state (and a general overview of Nasser - Amer rivalry that led them to such ruin) I can recommend the Soldiers, Spies and Statesmen by Hazem Kandil. It gets weaker regarding Sadat era, but up until 1973 war its an excellent source for why Egypt was in dire straits and why its army performed so badly.
(Summary, it was a bastion of power for Amer and his coterie of officers whom Nasser was powerless to kick out of the military)

The MiG-19 was a difficult jet to master, and something of a maintenance nightmare, especially when subjected to the merciless wear and tear of sustained combat operations. The EAF had fewer issues keeping its many MiG-17s, MiG-21s, Su-7s, Su-20s, and Mirages in service. However, in peacetime, the MiG-19/J-6 played a useful role as an advanced trainer for fast jet pilots, helping to keep their yearly flight hours up, and therefore extending the service lives of the EAF’s more valuable airframes. It is also said that most of the EAF’s best F-16 pilots are former J-6 pilots, which seems to confirm the effectiveness of the MiG-19/J-6 in this role.

What’s interesting is that Pakistani pilots were far more skilled and aggressive. They tried to teach these traits to Egyptian and Iraqi pilots (and maybe also to Syrian pilots but I’m not sure about that). In this they were only partly successful.
The problem with a lot of Arab and African militaries is that loyalty is valued over competence. Also, there is often a worry about coups. So there is a lot of political intrigue. Plus corruption is endemic. It’s simply not a healthy environment to build competent militaries.
Generally, these militaries worry a lot more about internal threats than external enemies. When they finally have to focus on external enemies, like when the Egyptian army actually took war with Israel seriously (in 1973), they perform much better.

For some reason the Mig-19 was considered a difficult aircraft and not popular. Many Warsaw pact air forces went from the Mig-17 to the Mig 21. The Pakistanis for some reason loved them. Good question. The "both" sums it up nicely.
Although the key (specifically for the six day war) was the strategy. Especially operation focus and operation red tongue. And of course soild intelligence.
Imagine crippling the airforce of your strongest enemy in an (almost) single strike, it gives you a complete air superiority throughout the war, and ensuring operational and logistical freedom on the ground.

In the 1967 War, Arabs suffered one of the most crushing defeats in modern history. Not even they try to deny it. They were poorly led, the pilots were not adequately trained and it's really not a surprise. Israelis were not exactly untouchable, especially when their leadership made mistakes (such as the attack on H-3 airfield in Iraq)
