Hi Defyn. There might be a little chance that I have a solution for the airfield AA problem.
As someone who's played a lot of Germany 5.7 Air RB I know all too well that bombers contribute generally very little to winning the match. The reason for this is that they're basically playing their own game. Bomb bases, RTB and repeat. This is their way of trying to win the match (not that in practice a win is actually achieved that way, generally speaking). Fighters however, generally try to win the match by taking down all the enemy fighters and eventually all the attackers and bombers.
The 2 are not intertwined at all and they do not complement each other, which is bad for gameplay.
I would like to propose a solution to this as well as to the Airfield AA problem. It is as follows:
Instead of making bombers bomb bases, let them bomb the airfield and make it that in doing so they disable AA for a limited amount of time. (And, if needed, make it so that the AA also has a short timeframe of invulnerability roughly halfway through the match.) This way the bombers actually support the fighter effort. This also means that fighters who play cowardly only have limited access to a safe airfield, and that players have to time their return to the base. Players could also anticipate on this, which will make gameplay probably more dynamic. Perhaps players even need to defend the airfield at times in order for their teammates to take off. This stimulates team effort and communication. This solution also means that fighters have a motive to escort bombers.
It's just a quick draft, there probably are some flaws and it will need nuance for different tiers.

the best week of this year has been the one where defyn decided to go hard into youtube. i have been playing everyday that i see one of his vids. at this point, they should just let defyn redesign all the tutorials in game, or link to his videos. no other youtuber breaks it down like he does. also, as an english teacher in brazil, his english is top grade, its not easy to get that good at a second language.

Tbh i'm kinda surprised he didn't quit yet, i did like most good players over years. People are coimng up with alot of ideas of how to fix this issue for like 6 or 7 years by now, and all they do is buff them even more every once in a while. It's legit same shit since like 2015-16, people are abusing shit out of it, you literally cannot have single match without someone camping airfield.
Most maps with most planes you can't even bleed tickets because you don't have good enough guns nor enough rockets/bombs to destroy pillboxes and medium/heavy tanks in time

The game could be over already, but instead what happens? Instead is that the game goes for an extra 15 minutes while the winning team are forced to ground pound when they already won and the game could be over already.

The only thing you can do if there's something like 3 people following you and they're in better planes than you, is going to the airfield hoping they greedy enough to get killed by AA

@@p_filippouz I think in reality, he isn’t really talking about that guy but about the AA and how they effect player mentality.
The way I view it, airbase as unnaturally prolong matches that should have ended ages ago and makes the game boring as all hell and serves only to annoy, and the mid-map AA only serve to be random threats that have a random chance at randomly hitting you at the most inconvenient of times. It’s the reality of how AA affects the game sometimes and we have to just accept it.
However, by itself, this rant is half completely understandable and yeah half malding. I think him and many other people are half way to the right solution but they aren’t quite there yet. The only way I see this problem being fixed is if the air modes get completely and utterly revamped and changed. The mode just isn’t designed well enough to adjust to how modern war thunder is and it’s also boring and lame as hell and overall is just badly designed.

there has to be a transition BR between missile and countermeasure carrying planes and planes that have tradeoffs in mobility/missiles/countermeasures.
like the AV8 has decent missiles and counter measures, but its subsonic and as agile as a brick, on the other hand you have mig 19 and j35A with good performance and agility but bad/no missiles and no countermeasures. I see 9.7 as a tradeoff BR, and we have to have one somewhere in the tech tree.

@@railgun1 Most of the time those were 10-15G missiles that are easy to evade, but if you get uptiered, an AIM-9J/P is not nearly as easy to avoid, let alone an R-60

THANK YOU! Thanks for bringing up the out of place AA in Air RB and the constant abuse of it by most players. It's really fucking annoying and probably one of the main reasons why I just quit playing RB and went back to Air Arcade because there, at least you get respawns and tiny maps with quick arcady action. In the last Air RB game I played, I was in the F-5C, I killed 2 enemy planes and was running low on ammo and fuel being the last player of my team left alive (one idiot teammate rammed my friend in the beginning of the game) with no enemies anywhere near me so I went to refuel my plane, take off and fly to the center of the map. None of the other 2 enemy players were in the center. Where were they you might ask? both camping at their airfield. flying low altitude circles around the airfield because they knew I would be suicidal to fly in that. So I turned around to get back to the center of the map, the second I turned around they spammed 6 missiles at me and I died. Top tier gameplay with no possibility of counterplay is what's killing the game and I'm sick and tired of it.
I fucking hate these no-skill cheesy playstyles that are even rewarded by War Thunder...
It's just like when 2 years ago I was flying the XP-50 in Air RB and the last remaining enemy plane was a bomber with 10 minutes of the game remaining and flying at like 10-11km altitude and I was unable to get even close to 2km below him within that time so he just won, doing nothing but flying away all game and pressing the spacebar a couple times. It just drives me fucking mad.
For real arcade is the only fun air mode, it’s not fun to fly for minutes after having to take off and then just have people all the way at their base all game or just waiting up at 20km and dive with pulse Doppler missiles

Feel like the ideal solution is to just remove missiles.
It seems like they generally buffed AA as well because a decent portion of the time when I'm above AA in the middle of the map even like 3km up I'll get tagged by it, it makes maps with loads of AA in the center extremely annoying. It used to be unless you were outside of airfield you could generally ignore AA, but I've died to the ground AA trucks a couple times recently. It really feels like they got an accuracy buff for whatever reason.
I feel you, got set on fire at 3km alt when playing at 2.3, i dont think AAA should be that good especially on low tier maps when many players dont really climb to alt
forward base aaa needs to be maybe a couple flak guns and that's it...instead, you get hitscan'd immediately the second you stray within 6km ... and dont even start with the midfield aaa in mozdok, or that small winter map - the one with two opposing trenches of machineguns in the middle. hitscan all fluids empty with red wings and pilot within 5 seconds of hearing those first shells blasting by. Can't get away from it because you're in a prop. That is still somehow a thing to this day.
lmao it was horrid cancer but the only upside to the mid map buff was all the dope environmental fights that get set up by not being in hitscan range. That shit made me put mountains in front of me and the AAA
Mig19’s are probably the most fun you can have in that hell of a BR range (9.3-10.3) except maybe short of the Ariete IMO. One of the best aircraft for clutch situations as well. I find myself playing the mig19s quite a bit.

Was 1v1 a guy, we were the last people in the game, I was in a Ki-84 ko and he was in an F2G. We had similar energy, he head-on me and then went back to his airfield even though we were in the middle of the map. As I slowly chased him, an AA in the middle of the map set me on fire in 1 hit and I lost the game. Great stuff

Look, right? If I know the team is going to die out in like a minute, I don't feel like paying that fucking repaircost if it takes me 20 seconds to go to the airfield, but at least I have the balls to J out and just go onto the next match

The mig 19S was my favourite plane in the game for the longest time. I kept playing it well into the missile meta and it was still fun for awhile but it’s slowly being beaten into an early grave. It’s a shame because it was so enjoyable to dogfight with. Many pilots don’t expect a fighter to be turnfighting at this tier and it catches a lot of people by surprise. I miss this thing being competitive.
I was playing MiG-19S not long ago when grinding the German tree. I have managed to get 2.8k/d 86 kills with 31 deaths to be exact after 63 missions. That is coming from just above average air RB player, I'm nowhere near DEFYN skill but I'm not terrible either so I would say this plane is still very competitive. It just has to be played somewhat right.
MiG-19 was the king all the way until Draken introduction.

I'm doing great even with the MiG 19 in this meta, even 30 g missiles can be dodged from the right aspect so while it may be harder, its engines can still carry it.
I agree with the AF camping but not the landing comment. AF AA should be death sentence to an enemy player if someone is on the ground no if ands or buts. Landing isn’t always the guy who can’t manage his ammo or fuel it’s more often the guys carrying the game that HAVE to land because they have used their resources to kill 5 planes. It isn’t fair to these guys that carry their team that a random ass player that got lucky with the AA get an easy kill on the ace player. That isn’t about getting out played that is getting killed by the luck of a glue sniffer

Sure if you're on the ground the AA can be strong. The game ends in 90 seconds after you touch down anyways.

I have to say I completly agree with the airfield strafing and i tend to do it alot without myself being strafed at all i rarely get strafed, if i have atleast ammo and abit of fuel when there's one person left I'd head over to the airfield and likely they'd be there

It's CHRONIC and insane just how badly this mentality has stuck around, it creates a feedback loop of bad players or average players never getting good and complaining that they can't get good because good players stomp them even though they actively and subconsciously cuck themselves with their terrible in game habits that make me audibly groan every time I see it.
No matter the plane, no matter the situation, every time they feel the fight they took has soured they just, run away, I can't stand it man, it prolongs and ruins every game, thinking about it makes me physically angry.
Anyways, thanks Daddy Defyn, hopefully this stupid mechanic gets changed or fixed or something, I don't know.
Few people are as good as you, and once you have cleaned out the enemy team, what is the point for the last player of just becoming another trophy for you? THAT is why the last player is heading back to base. Other players do not owe you another kill. I love your videos, they are very informative, but this is one thing where I disagree with you.

The Harsh Truth of MiG19: it is not good anymore vs 9.7+. From the atrocious flight model with no rudder and slow full imput value of the controls, to the brutally shittified NR30 belts with average 740m/s velocity with instant drag.

I might be wrong, but I honestly think airfield camping would be significantly lessened if repair costs would be either removed or just reduced to a point where players are not punished by the game for a bad match or a streak of bad matches. People's play style is greatly impacted by the fear of repair costs following poor performance.
If the only cost of playing poorly, trying to learn was the time invested in a match there would be much more incentive to keep trying, to put up an actual fight instead running away to the airfield with your tail between your legs.
Players kissing the ground to deny a kill is pure scrub bullshit though.
You will see people camp their base in planes that cost next to nothing to repair, you will see it at lower tiers and you will see it at top tier.
It’s not the repair cost, it’s the instinctive “I am in trouble so I have to run” mechanism kicking in because these players did not start playing the game without camping their airfields, so now, this is all they know how to do.
If its about SL, you can land, repair, refuel and J out.
If this had countermeasures then it would be untouchable

The Q-5A is basically a MiG-19 at 9.0, super fun.
The Q-5A also has the second earliest flares after the A-4E. Very interesting plane, but it's probably stiff like the A-5C.

The MiG-19 really is a god tier plane. It will punish lesser skilled pilots, but a good pilot will absolutely excell in this thing.
It's all good complaining about people running back to the airfield when you have infinite silver lions. Most people would rather save the repair cost rather than die in an already lost game to 5 enemy fighters which is just not fun for either side anyway.
I gave up this game after the f14 came out. As a USA main I couldn't deal with the mixed battles anymore. Coming from beta to this has been a journey. Your channel still makes me want to come back. I just can't tho

You do have to take a bad plane when you are playing Sweden tho. It's not this guy's problem either that Gaijin decided Tier VI Sweden should be trash.
I still say that these last pure dogfighters are over BR-ed! And when it comes the MiG-19S; I'd trade that 3rd gun for more ammo anytime, or even for a radar!
AF is so inconsistent, had a match on cliffs of diver in my f89B. Team runs in and all die instantly, turns in to a 9v1. One crashes and I kill 5 of them. But run out of ammo, fly around waiting for a good time to land but the three I was yet to kill all rearmed and refuel while I killed their friends so they all have fuel over me. I am forced to land and a MD450b comes in at like 200~250MPH and base AA doesn’t shoot till after he kill me and flew half way down the runway. Next match get criti early in and have to land, base AA kill two bombers and a random ho299 that was just fly around 4 miles away. It really makes it so more annoying then it already is. When you need it to protect you in bad spot it just turns it’s self off, and when it’s not need it starts trying to steal your kill like a member of JG3.
If I’m in the situation where my team dies and I’m the last one, I will usually J out or land then J out, that’s one of the reasons I run back to the airfield, another option is I say who wants a free kill then end the match. I’m probably the only nice guy in this game.
I don’t get it either why so many people turn around and try to land or let the AA do their job. If I’m the last on alive and need to land, I’m going to and take off again. And if it is the last thing I’m doing I’m at least going for a suicidal head on to take one with me. Screw these little whiny sh!ts that land and leave because they did absolutely nothing all game and find themselfs completely alone. Best idea in their mind, land and leave. Yes that’s how you learn the game and make you SL and XP. If you are going to loose anyway at least try to take someone with you.

If you land, take off, get a single kill then get mobbed, you still earn more than J'ing out.

ADA in ARB at SAM BR ranges don't engage you or engage you with any accuracy at 15k ft, and if you dive from directly above, don't shoot at you at all until you're under 10k. Allows you to get 1 airfield pass or take-off strafe on anyone that used it to camp because the SAMS take too long to fire at you once you zoom away unless you're braindead. Yeah, it's not that fun, but it's still an easy workaround for AF campers, and shows they're still not safe.
MY issue is the fuckers that still J out constantly on the strip when they have another friendly in the air
Dont hate the player, hate the game. Gaijin has complete control over what the meta is and how the game is played. Besides going to airfield being a dick move, it's the best option for these bad players.

How many years has it been since they made the AAA op? I can't even remember. And throughout these years we constantly begged gaijin to nerf it back at least a little bit. What did we get? Missile AAA for top tier, OP AAA even on secondary airfields and these hilarious vulcans in prop matches. At this point gaijin made it pretty clear that they have no intention of listening, which speaks volumes about their priorities.

Seriously though… you have this video where you get kill after kill after kill, where you don’t show yourself dying even once, and you’re ranting about people who have to use every advantage simply to survive an encounter against you. It’s like if I dropped down to running a 2.3 BR prop and complained that all the poor, lesser skilled players in their reserve planes ran to their airfields to stop me from clubbing them.
Yeah, running to your airfield for cover against someone is somewhat unsporting, but whining about people who are just trying to not get shot down when you’re better than 99.9% of the people who play is a bit much.
up until the game will punish me for loosing a plane with insane repair costs, I will try to RTB to reset the fight if I feel I'm going to loose it. And if I feel that the match is lost, I will land and J-Out.
I'm not nearly as good as you are, I can't score more than 2 kills per match as average and I simply don't have time nor the will to spend hours farming SL so I can play a plane that I actually like for a while.
I'd really like to take more risks, but since the choice is to play safe or not playing at all, I choose the first one.
After all, if "me being alone vs 4" is not your problem, why the fact that me trying to RTB bothers you should be a problem of mine?
Remember I was a level 25 in a air realistic match and we were winning it was a 3v1 at 3.0 I was pumped because I got 4 kills and this level 100 with 96d exactly put into fighters was running to his air filed complaining about us trying to kill him and how it wasn't fair later I got annoyed and tired to kill him near his air filed I was shot down and my 2 team mates were German bombers this level 100 then killed one and started talking shit in the chat to low levels about skill issues as if he didn't camp airfiled for 8 mins 😐 ( yes we did lose)

If I’m the last person on my team and I see you I’m running to my airfield too, I’m not going to just give you a free kill. That said in those situations where I know I can’t win I land and leave the aircraft so the match can end so I can move on.
AA AF should be disabled if you are the last one or the last 2.
Also, people should just J out and leave if they feel like they are in the worst plane against good planes. just take the L, dont prolong the game

im the type of player who fights to the death, running to your airfield to defend a person on your six is a unsatisfying way to end a fight, i'll rather face the opponent and lose honorably instead of win dishonorably
Usually what I do against af runners is put myself in a vulnerable state, such as going lower than them, and most of the time they turn right back at you thinking they got this now.
This plane is in a limbo, it has amazing performance and you can outperform everything at the br, but you are seeing planes with r60s, magics, and aim9gs though you can deal with those pretty easily, making it so that if you dont get missile spiked from 6 km from a plane that wasnt spotted, you will probably win the match
The other option is to sealclub everything else

I requested this on the discussion post, but I’d really love a guide from you about how to dodge/notch missiles. I have nearly a 5.0 kd with the MiG-15bis, mostly because it rarely sees the caliber of missiles that the MiG-19PT does. When it comes to the 19, I have quite a bit more trouble dealing with missiles, and my kd is barely 1.5. I see the potential when I fly it due to the ridiculous flight performance, but I can’t seem to do as well with it when I need to avoid missiles. Love the vids, congrats on 40k!
notching is just flying perpendicular to the person painting you with the radar. to notch you need to be above MAR (minimum abort range: minimum range needed to defeat a missile). MAR at least in my experience is generally farther than 10km. If you are more than 10km out from the missile, simply fly perpendicular to the plane painting you. if you are below MAR it is mostly 50/50 since you cannot notch the missile before splash so you have to maneuver and chaff to attempt to defeat the missile. within 3km the missile will generally not lock in time to account for a defensive maneuver so you are good there.
note: notching works best against planes that have pulse doppler radars since they rely on relative movement.

I love the mig19s flew it a lot, did get ace crew on it. Not sure if I bought that or got it from xp but I wouldn't be suprised if it was xp.
The ace does matter a fair bit. I notice segnificantly less blacking out when I play it. Though ofc it's still a major issue with the plane. Its fairly doable to play around though.

Besides most of the people that camp the base do it when they have a 10% chance of losing. It just makes the game borderline unplayable

Hi defyn any idea how can I keep track of aiming reticle? I know it sounds stupid but im losing it from sight when diving, it blends with the ground even though it is red. I imagine turning colour to cyan would suck near sea
Change color or shape. I find the 'counter strike' crosshairs in neon green work fine for me. The color's bright enough to not blend in too much.

I have not yet played the MiG 19s. But I have played and spaded the MiG 19pt. I am looking forward to this one. Just want to finish with the MiG 21F13 and the F5E before I return to the German air trees.

Lmao the M163 on a prop match is so real, I was flying low and had someone on my six that I can't shake and then this random ai M163 instantly reduced him to smithereens. After that I'll always keep myself away from them

Amazing skill... I ve been in top tier for a couple of months but I don't know how to maneuver the plane while looking around! This is a major disadvantage for me and I recognize that as I m looking you playing. How is it possible?
Ok i have this plane. I use it a lot but it has the fatal flaw of the pilot blacking out makes it super difficult to use. It can turn well at low speeds but people will rarely turn fight you. They stay fast and most things are just as fast if not faster.

Every plane/vehicle in game should be playable. You can’t put someone down for playing a “bad plane” the game should give everyone a game mode that accommodates every planes play style *cough* A7 with Fkn af take off *cough*
