M4A1 BLOCK II CLONE after 10,000RDS | Daniel Defense M4A1 RIS II

- I've recently shot approx. 10,000 rounds of 5.56mm NATO through my Daniel Defense M4A1. Here are my thoughts. Although the internals are stock/basic milspec parts, I've changed some of the outside furniture so it resembles an M4A1 Block II rifle.
Optic: Aimpoint Comp M4S
Upper/Lower Receivers: Daniel Defense
Rail: RIS II (Picatinny)
Barrel Length: 14.5" (before muzzle device)
Bolt Carrier Group: Daniel Defense phosphate-coated BCG

14:41 - 16:28: Summary
45k rounds through four DD rifles (total), 0 failures related to the gun (6 total stoppages, four ammo related, two magazine related), 0 parts replacements, 0.75 MOA with all four with Blak Hills MK262. All four eject IMI m193 at 3:30. I tried to get the MFR rail on my V7SLW to shift by throwing it a dozen times in the air at 10-12 feet onto frozen ground (grass/dirt), zero shift.
okay
Carried the block 2 for years before I got a MK18, did several deployments with it. The RIS2/SOCOM barrel are probably the best in categories for what the rifle is, for hard duty use in my opinion.
Don't be ashamed to clean your rifle regularly. I honestly don't understand the obsession with not cleaning guns. You should absolutely clean them regularly, and keep them oiled. Take care of your stuff!
Great video too, subbed!
You're a great communicator - concise yet comprehensive. Beautiful filming. Block II vibes are indeed sexy. Just subbed and looking forward to more!
Hey thanks so much! Means a lot, bro!
10k is no joke in civ circles. Fantastic video!
I honestly don’t believe it.
Thank you!!
@@IcanDriveIt I believe it, it's been 7 years. 1,500ish rounds per year is totally doable for people that actually train. Especially with 50% being steel
@@jamesshoots great video!. what buffer do you use for this rifle?
People who complain about price are the same ones that have 18 of the same guns that do similar things and have only shot about 200 rounds through them. Meanwhile outside of gun purchases they waste money on nonsense. Get one good rifle, pistol, maybe shotgun, armor (not steel) helmet, nods, ammo and training . You’ll end up at about the same price as 18 guns.
Amazing content as always. Thanks for sharing your thought in depth
Excellent video
very quality channel man, i look forward to seeing you grow
Thank you!!
I admire your taste. The GWOT sopmod vibe is real! Great content man! Can’t wait to see what else you’ve got in your collection!
Thanks so much! Yes, def gonna feature some more guns!
I agree.
M16A2 & M16A4 is my generation.
Would love a side by side review.
Idk how i stumbled upon your videos but i like your delivery. You come across as a common guy who shoots and wants to shoot well, vs a guntuber.
Thanks, I appreciate it! That’s what I’m going for!
Broom handle gang 💪 Good video!
dude ive been waiting!!
The video hath arriveth
I love my DDM4A1! And you can't beat DD's outstanding customer service; they really do care about their customers and will do everything in their power to make sure you're taken care of!
Structured! Subscribed after 20 secs!
I’m a brand new subscriber but this channel is awesome! Keep up the amazing content. I found your channel through the YT shorts when you did your m16a4 clone short. Hopefully the algorithm kicks in and you gain notoriety and subs because your content is awesome! I’ve binged every video so far ( it’s only been an hour ) but I love what I’m seeing and you tick every box for a successful TH-cam gun channel. Take care and keep up the great content.
Thanks so much, that means a lot!! I'll definitely keep the A4 content coming!
I bought a DD Block 2 as my first AR15 back when I was 19.
I genuinely loved that rifle, and it never did me wrong. Any failure I had was due to bad ammo or a magazine fault. Accuracy was fantastic when I took it out to distance.
I got rid of it last year to fund an MCX, and while I haven't necessarily looked back, I do have some fond memories with it.
I've since moved on to a Brownells BRN-4/HK416 build, and I hope it treats me as well as the DD Block 2 did, otherwise I might have to go back for a DD R3.
Good video keep it up 👍
Let's go boys! Let's get this guy to 500k subs!!!
WOOHOO!!
Great vid dude!
Thanks brotha!!
@@jamesshoots Keep up the great work on these vids. You’re absolutely crushing it. I sincerely mean that. 🤙🏼
That means a LOT!! I’ll keep ‘em coming!
I have a DD M4V7 and I’ll have to say that I love that thing, it is definitely a top shelf rifle and kind of like you said the price is definitely a little steep and with the price that they command I think Daniel Defense should add a couple things like an SSAE trigger and a set of magpull M Bus pro sites on on them for the price that they are, however when buying a Daniel Defense rifle it’s not just the name that you’re buying but the quality and the reputation as well as the warranty and that’s the big thing is the warranty, Daniel Defense put a lifetime warranty on those rifles and they stand by that warranty 100% if you have any problems at all out of that rifle even if it’s 20 years later you contact them and they take care of it for you at no cost to you which is awesome and no other manufacturer out there does that, and that is what you pay for when you purchase a Daniel Defense which always makes it worth the money in my opinion
New James video?? LETS GOO
Bro I love mine!! Never has let me down 😎
I love that I have a M4A1 block ii and M16A4 and you started dropping videos on the same rifles😂I love both rifles on is a DD and other is FN
Great review. I bought my DD M4A1 about a year ago, after buying a Colt M4A1 dressed out with a Trijicon TA31. Like you I love military clonish rifles. But on my DD I added some Troy battle sights, a vickers 2 point sling, DD-QD socket and Put a Aimpoint T2 with ADM mount and Surefire X300 weapon light. I just kept the DD furniture on. I think the best selling point for me, which you may have missed is the re-sale value and that Daniel defense has a lifetime warranty, it doesn’t matter the owner, it has a no BS warranty for the life of the gun, which to me is awesome, it means they stand by their product, no matter what. The only complaint I have is it’s called a M4A1, but has a government profile barrel, my colt has the true socom barrel, other then that I’ve had no issues with the DD M4A1. Great review bro, glad you are enjoying the rifle!
Ohhhh that sounds like a good setup. How do you like the T2? I’ve considered that for a future, more modern build. Good call out on the resale value. I hope to not sell mine, but if I do, it’s reassuring to know I’m in good hands!
@@jamesshoots Love the T2, it’s light weight and compact. Although I do love my comp M5 that I also have, In my opinion I think the T2 more bomb proof being the battery is stored inside vs. on the outside compartment. Just my opinion. Love your set up man, it definitely screams Ranger battalion.
DD has top tier customer service, I had bought a 11.5 barrel in 2019, pre 2020 barrels they changed the gas port from .076 (over gassed) to .069 which is much better, I had just a few hundred rounds through it and told them it was too much gas for suppressed and they told me send it in and they swapped me brand new barrel even pinned gas block and installed Surefire MB556K break free of charge!!
The military and Colt recommends gauging/testing/replacing the action spring, extractors, extractor spring, ejector spring and bolts after around 6000 rounds..DD barrels steel is some of the strongest I have come across..Every DD barrel I have come across has passed my head space, function gauge and throat gauges perfectly..
I absolutely love my DD M4A1, i only have around 4200 rounds through mine and I've never had a problem.
I have their MK18 and DD5V4 and love them.
Same, except I got a DD5V3!
I really like your daniel defense it really looks good. 10,000 rounds later it still runs great. I am not crazy about the price but you get what you pay for
Sick dude!! Sweet gun, glad it’s still runnin strong. You could honestly probably do another 90,000 rounds before that barrel craps out lol. DD makes perfect combat rifles.
Hahha yeah I love this thing. Barrel has been working very well. IF it ever dies in my lifetime, I’ll probs take the opportunity to buy another barrel and turn it into a Block II FSP lol
I have one that I've shot weekly since 2015. It's been the best $1700 I've spent. It's gassy as all get out suppressed, but literally never had a malfinction.
Dope gun. I could never clean any gun every 500 rounds but it appears to be in really good shape for 10,000 rds lol.
It’s a strange phenomenon if you have to excuse yourself for buying a high priced rifle while nobody has a problem with buying Staccato 2011s.
If you have the money, go for it. Nothing is more frustrating than buying something cheap just to be able to buy a few hundred rounds more, just to regret it later on
I have a number of ARs that I've purchased or built with a budget mindset. With the destruction of society happening before our eyes, I decided to go all out on what might be my last build. I've been eyeballing the DD M4A1 FSP and finally made the purchase two days ago. I'm a sucker for the look of the front sight post. I don't think I'll regret it.
Appriciate high round count reviews. Too many Instagram operators who dont shoot anything but their photos
I bought everything for my block II clone starting in 2019. DD 14.5 stipped upper. Then they sat in my closet until last year when I put it all together. Still haven’t fired it.
I heard barrels wear out around that round count. There was a test done somewhere cant remember. Hows the rifling? I wonder if it last longer due to shorter range sessions over a long time
The rifling is holding up really well! Couldn’t get a good angle in that overhead section I had but it’s solid. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s because of my firing schedule like you said though. I hardly rapid fire - I’d say fastest is like 2 rounds a second so it’s nothing crazy. Usually 200rds per range day.
A cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel like a DD will not wear out in 10k in semi auto. No way. Maybe he might wear it out at 20k probably 25-30k. A cheap stainless steel barrel might wear out in 10k
I remember when some gun writer in the 90s did a 10,000 round test of a run of the mill Bushmaster. Survived. Headspace was still good. Accuracy had waned a bit. Budget rifle. In the 90s.
I used bcm receivers a colt socom barrel and a black ris 2 flat top rail
I love my M4A1 RIS II upper. I got it used with only 50 rounds p/d with a surefire 4prong and a PRI CH for under $1000. For lower, I'm really cheap so I was able to get complete PSA lower with the SSA-E trigger already installed for $300, sold the MOE Grip + Stock and got myself an ergo grip(I wanted to try one) and a BCM mod 1 grip for around $70. Overall, I'm a happy man. The next upgrade I will do is replace my Slx LVPO and upgrade it to the Razor HD Gen II. That is something I've had my eyes on. Overall, it's a good GP rifle for me, good to know it will last upward of 10,000 rounds!
Dude that's sweet setup and that upper is a great deal. Let me know how you like the Razor. I've heard super good things and the glass clarity looks pretty insane!
I sold my m4a1 upper to get a KAC 14.5...I regret my decision
Damn, why?
Have you ran a can on it? How was it if you did.
Something that makes this more accessible is DD sells stripped upper receivers on brownells which often run sales on the uppers. I got my own m4a1 clone and put it on a lower I already had on hand for cheaper than buying a full DD rifle
Oh very true! This is a good option as well!
The stripped DD M4A1 upper on Brownells also includes the heavy Socom profile barrel. It is exclusive to Brownells. Not only does purchasing the rifle this way make it more affordable, it is also the superior version of the rifle in my opinion. The heavy Socom barrel is even more durable than the government profile barrel normally on the rifle. It is also renowned for it’s accuracy.
@@Vader4260 damn, I didn’t even know this! Thanks for further affirming my purchase, lmao
Great videos! Thank you! From a shooting perspective, not aesthetic, do you prefer the Aimpoint M4s over the Trijicon ACOG TA31?
Hey! They’re meant for different purposes, but from a comfort perspective I prefer the Aimpoint. The eye relief is much more forgiving and because it’s not magnified, I find it easier to acquire my target. Now, while I’ve hit targets 200+ yards away with my Aimpoint, the father out I go, the more I start gravitating towards the ACOG!
@@jamesshoots Thank you for your response and opinions :)
A good rifle should honestly last you 10k easy now 10k suppressed changes everything
Can you have Geissele Super Duty 14.5 inch upper?
You can build a M4A1 for around $1,500 with a giessle SSA-E, RIS 2, Criterion midlength barrel, and BCM stripped upper. Personally I would do that since you get a midlength gas rather than a standard carbine gas
If you still have the Mosin do a fun little vid on it!
I have it BUT it’s in another state since I moved :( long story lol. but I still have my M1 Garand with me 👀
How do you like your warcomp timed or do you wish you had done a neutral timing?
I like the timing I have a lot - it’s a noticeable difference from the normal A2-style flash hider I used to have. Recoil used to push my rifle to my 2 o’clock but now it’s MOSTLY just straight back to my shoulder (but not entirely). I still have to consciously control recoil.
The blast does hit my light, but that’s really just cosmetic - no damage to the glass and the light works just fine. The Warcomp also has a ringing sound because of its tines - also not not issue lol but some people like it and some people can’t stand it 😂
@jamesshoots Check out the One Hundred Concepts light covers. Helps to keep the lense clean. Surefire said that the blast from the warcomp is the same as 3 prong, unlike the brake, where the shooter can feel the concussion. Can you co firm this?
Hey thanks for waiting. Unfortunately I only have the Warcomp so I’m not sure :/

If you are willing to absorb the cost of a Daniel Defense, the M4A1 Block II pattern carbine will perform as advertised
Not to hurt your feelings but I picked one up a few months ago used slightly for 1400.00.
My feelings are hurt 🥲🥲🥲🥲
QUAD RAIL GANG 4 LYFE
QUAD SQUAD REPORTING FOR DUTY 🫡 🫡
10,000 rounds and your rifle’s brass deflector’s paint job is still unblemished? Riiiiiight.
Is it carbine or midlength?
Carbine
Quad rails are the shit for the AR platform imo, the majority of mlok rails are too skinny and don't shave enough weight to justify themselves, again on the AR. I'd say only having carbine gas and no mid-length option is a bigger con to it's 'classic' design
Whats that warbelt 👀 setup
Duuude it’s the TREX Arms Orion Belt! I’ve had it for maybe… 3 years? 3 Esstac Kywi pistol mags and 1 rifle mag. TREX dump pouch and the Safariland 6360 level 3 holster for the Glock 17!
@jamesshoots sorry for the late reply, but thanks, man!! BTW I love that I found your channel and that you do a4 content! Hope to see more of it! Stay safe and keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!!@@adamacosta6731
DD stands with the ATF and red flag laws just like ruger!
You have the data to back that up?
I highly, highly doubt your round counts
Great video. But every 500rds? I can’t stand having a dirty rifle personally I clean every time I put more than a full mag through it. I can’t trust my life to a dirty gun
Haha fair enough! To each his own. Kudos for taking care of your equipment.
CAP on that rifle having 10k round.
My credit card/order history begs to differ, my man
Cap?? Lmao 🤣 A DD can easily reach 10k rounds.
@@tajituck888 no shit it can run 10k round. The rifle looks like it’s only fired 500
@@WindowsPlaysFPS it’s called taking care of your shit. Try it.
