      the reason people use different color dots on lasers is because red and yellow are lower frequencys and blue and purple are higher frequencys of electromagnetic waves so if you want to obstruct sumones vision you use higher frequency waves

      My thoughts are.... what can you see better? And do keep in mind, red is dimmer, but it also tends not to contrast with greenery, which may or may not be a concern.
      If, on the other hand, you're colorblind, like I am (I mean the real kind, not that fucking SJW shitty version people use to explain how skin color doesn't matter), this may matter more. Green is brighter, yes, but to me, it looks more yellow than green, and is highly visible.

    Excellent video. I just started a new build and want to keep it as simple and light as possible. You brought back a memory of BASIC. The weapons we were issued had Ptouch labels on the stock with a number, mine was 56. It was about 2" behind the charging handle. I used it as a reference point. A DS from another platoon was ripping me one day because I didn't rest my on the charging handle like they were preaching. I was trying to explain to him what I was doing and of course that went over REAL well. The Master Sergeant from my platoon overheard and stopped him cold. I was routinely firing 35/40 to 40/40 on the range. Master Sergeant told me to keep doing whatever it was that I was doing. That was nearly 35 years ago on an M16A1.

I really enjoyed those missions the most out of all of them. I digress.....anyway, really appreciate the review and candor. Not to mention the straight talk, get tired of the "fluff" from some of the other folks. My setups are very similar to what you have described, also the more shit you put on, the heavier it gets. For new rifle owners, he should have mentioned astigmatism. Red dots will be blurry to varying degrees for almost 50% of people due to astigmatism. Prism's like the EOtech wont be, nor will irons or conventional glass scopes.
      This doesnt mean you can't use a red dot, unless you have severe astigmatism, but you may strongly prefer a prism.

    Shawn's presentation is squared away. The bored, all business tone, Mil spec vocabulary, and the timing of is perfect. Its the stated or implied insults to certain audience members for some choices they might have made (fuckin safety, light discipline, green dots obviously don't work for Leprechauns) while including thee awkward pauses that really sell the performance. It is so authentic, I actuality got nervous about being AWOL and out of uniform FFS.

I put a faxon pencil barrel on it and it's so light and feels so great to shoot. It's the best rifle I have ever built. I did put a adjustable gas block on it just because I have a skeleton bcg.i have put over 1500 rounds through It in the last 2 months and I haven't had a single malfunction. For those who are still discovering this video and maybe if Shawn is still monitoring the comments. When you were talking about the BAD lever and wondering why people use it. I shoot my rifles left handed and pistols right handed so when I was with the Rangers, I always had a BAD lever on my rifle and still do, because it allows my right thumb to drop the bolt after I reload. But righties can also make use of it because their right index finger can drop the bolt when reloading.

I also wanted a whole lot of different types of tape switches and buttons for my rifle light. But then, it dawned on me - I don't need all that shit. I watched this video 4 yrs ago. I didn’t comment or thumbs up . I watched from start to finish with much of the information being the template for the rifle I would soon customize. Flash forward to yesterday painting my house and I’m thinking about this video and how far Shawn has come in such short time. Jump to this morning and I’d be damned if. I willed this video back into my feed. The work is never done

    Thanks for the video and advice, Shawn. I just recently replaced my original hand guard with a Magpul M-Lok, with picatanny rails. Originally, I was going to get an angle grip, but when you mentioned the advantage to having a Vertical grip, I changed my mind on that. I might change the charging handle to the one you suggested in the future. Thanks again.

    • @p51mustang24
      @p51mustang24 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not a fan of vertical grips. It adds weight out front; weight out front is worse than weight in the back.
      The main benefit to vgrips is heat mitigation during sustained automatic fire, not a civilian problem. The secondary reason is leverage for driving a melee strike ...more likely, but still not likely. Rule #1 of CQB is avoid CQB.

    • @p51mustang24
      @p51mustang24 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Polymer angle grips are a lot lighter, so I'd lean that way if I ran a grip at all.

    First off I want to thank you for your service as a SEAL and in the CIA. I'm a LEO and have a tremendous amount of respect for the things you have done. The mindset, the amount of training and sacrifice you have given is unheard of. There is a reason there are a small number of people who do what you do. This was the first video on your channel that I watched but have seen almost every one you've done now. I appreciate your honesty and no bullshit approach to this topic. I also appreciate your honesty about what this job has done to you. I watched your episode on anxiety last night and it takes a real man to have that type of honesty in front of the entire world. Keep doing what you are doing Sir.

    Major reason my rifle is the way it is. This video cut out my overthinking and gave me a rifle to learn on. Mil spec trigger, iron sights, allowing me to put more money into ergonomics (radian CH, Radian ambi safety, bcm gunfighter vert grip, b5 systems stock, fostech sabre grip). My sights are the polymer magpul but that was because I couldn’t find retail price metal sights. They were either out of stock or more expensive than the manufacturer suggested price. Gives me more practice to zero my sights and learn how to deal with irons. Flashlight and eotech are next on my list but I want to get training first. Cutting the bullshit let me get a high quality BCG, a decent Mlok rail, and a barrel that should last several thousand rounds. While I don’t have a lpvo that cost more than my rifle, I am extremely confident in my rifle and don’t think I’ll need to engage in anything over a 100 yards anyways. My eyes can see down a football field fine.

    Thank you, Sir! I sold my Mossberg MMR when I went to med school but I used to be a machinist so I did some cool mods to a mediocre rifle. In fact, a gun shop owner bought it; I could tell he fell in love with it but I sold the deal when I told him all the stuff I did in the machine shop & how. Some day I will build another from billet titanium... oh yeah, I've machined that stuff before!

    Thanks Sean. Even though I have several weapons I am building my first AR. There are so many frickin add ons and as you say it ultimately comes down to putting rounds down field learning the weapon. There are so many custom after market parts it gets confusing on what do you really need. I am setting mine up for closer combat weapon no more than 100 yards. Appreciate your time and advice...btw the VE commercial wasn't too bad either.
