Can you tell me where to purchase the Magnum Ser Razer 125? I can't find them Anywhere, and what Looks like the Magnum website looks fishy to me, like a false site because of the layout and it's shown in browser as "not safe". I also don't see the 125gr on it.
Been a huge fan of magnus for many years, just reliable overall performance that I never had to second guess, even matched with other quality Broadheads in the price range. If someone asks what Broadheads to go with, can’t go wrong with magnus heads. Great review
Uncle Ted turned me on to these years ago. Good to see a recent test drive. I shoot the 4 blade, 2 smooth blades and 2 little cutting blades. Mine have killed whitetail, mule deer, pigs, jackrabbits and pheasant. Great product!!!!
I've been running the serrated black hornet for a couple years now. What has struck me about it is how well it flies. There is legitimately no discernable difference from my field points (and I say that as a precision shooter testing out to 75 yards). My only transition from summer 3D shoots to hunting season is to switch my field points out for the Black Hornets. That coupled with the lifetime warranty has me locked in. I also haven't had a deer go more than 50 yards after being hit with one. Magnus really knocked it out of the park with the black hornet.

I was waiting for a broadhead test like this with the magnus. I do like to see your 60 yrd long range test as to see the accuracy of these heads. I wish to see you do a test on the badger single bevel heads, like the design!!!!

Thanks Dozier. I'm not concerned about flight noise at all. Bow noise is a huge issue, cause the animals can place the sound from a static point. But a whistling while traveling at nearly 300 fps; animals have no idea what that is or where it came from. It could be a bug or bird.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures Gotcha. I've always tried to quieten every bow I've had and shoot heavier arrows than most guys at my local bow shot to help with bow/shot noise. Kansas deer seem to be less concerned with noise, East Texas and Louisiana deer, goodness gravy they are spooky, jump at their own farts. :-) Thanks,
Everyone was electrified by iron wills and the r2d2 tool steel. A2 steel has a Rockwell of 57-62. Magnus uses knife grade stainless Rockwell 49-53. The stinger has a better blade angle and has teeth. On animals the stinger buzzcut will likely perform as well if not better than the snobby heads.
Well, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've had incredible results with the A2 in Iron Wills. It's not just the Rockwell that is great, but the Charpy scores as well, the resistance to impact. They have about 2.5 times the resistance to impact compared to 420, so the edge retention is unreal. For example, the Magnus did VERY well in this steel plate test, but the Iron Wills looked brand new after the same tests. That being said, the Magnus certainly get the job done. But if someone wants to drop $100 for three heads, it's hard to beat Iron Wills.

I’ve been shooting the buzz cuts for years. Some of my heads have been thru 3 to 5 deer. I’ve yet to not get a pass thru. I’m shooting 380 grains at 70lbs.
Great timing, I just started asking questions about with broad head to use for black bear. I am shooting a Bowtech Realm @65 pounds and 28.5 in draw. I'm thinking the black hornet. I won't be shooting over 20 yards. Looking to build a 500 grain arrow for this hunt. Thanks for the tests that you do.
Thank you for watching. The Black Hornet would be a great choice. Black Bears are quite easily passed thorough, as long as you steer clear of the shoulder. Any larger mech will work as well.
When you said heavy vs light set up were you indicating under 425 grains for light and over 425 grains for heavy? I am shooting 60lbs 28 inch draw 450grain arrow. Thoughts on which one for Elk? Thanks
I once took an elk with a 370 gr arrow--and it buried into the fletching. So many factors affect penetration. But I think 450 is a good weight for your set up.
I want so stingers to test out myself. I've heard nothing but good things about these heads and the company as well. I kinda want the non serrated version cause they're easier to sharpen I'm sure.
Yeah, they are really good heads. I like the serrated cause they stay sharper longer...and you sharpen them on a flat stone, just like a non-serrated edge.
Shot both the larger Magnus is way better , I've shot and stuck to 2 broadheads for roughly 6-7 years, one is fixed 2 blade and one is fixed 3 blade and these broadheads are super strong and super accurate , easy to get to scary shaving sharp in a couple of minutes and the first one I use on pigs and that's the old school kayuga 130grn 2 blade and the 3 blade I use on all deer species here in Australia and that is the Magnus snuffer ss , stainless steel 3 blade 125 grn , super accurate and razor sharp.... I have not found anything that will out shoot these heads so I stick to what works and I use them both out of a hoyt compound and a tenpoint rs470 crossbow , nice video mate 🇦🇺🤙
Actually when comparing the two the Hornet penetrated better - sharp point of the singer was slightly ahead but the broadest section of the blade (what causes the damage) was fractionally more for the hornet - take home message for me - there is no real difference in penetration - or the sharper angle of the hornet blade did not impede penetration. I have been wanting too shoot some of them. I shoot a wicked ridge crossbow. Been looking at the black hornet 100 gr. Which one would i be better off with? The ser blades or regular blades. Are they any avenge over the other.
Thank you for explaining that. I thought deer were made out of steel. Just kidding. You'd be surprised how tough bone can be. I've had heads hold up to concrete them bend terribly on bone. But the point of the tests is to see how heads compare. If you have one head that can stand up to 5 shots thru steel and one that cannot even handle one, why in the world would you select the one that cannot? It's all about finding the best head for your own hunting purposes. But if youre happy with the Ramcat, as I said in the vid--more power to you.
Love the video! Great job. What grain arrow would you suggest for 125 grain buzzcuts? I’m working with a 60 pound draw 31 draw length. Just recently picked up archery and your videos have been very informative!
Thanks Matt. With your draw length, you will be generating some serious speed. For most animals in N America, I would want to be between 450 and 550 grains with your set up.
With the Stinger broad head do you think they’d fly good at 310 FPS out to 100 yards? 433g arrow. Debating on riding the 100g to 150g BH to slow the arrow down a bit to put it at 283 FPS which would probably put it at around 298+. Thoughts?
Thanks for the info. I think the stinger would be best on a spine hit as it can penetrate more before the round center part of the head makes contact. I've seen this with similar shaped heads.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I think you're right about the BH strength but the Stinger held up quite well in your test also. You did a nice job and both appear to be very good. The head I saw split a bear spine was a Zwickey Black Diamond and I don't think it is as tough as the Stinger.
It all comes down to your arrow being properly spited, your bow being very well tuned, your form being very consistent and your fletching creating a good spin on the shaft. With all that, many fixed blade heads will hit close to field points, just like these two did.
Man I’ve going back forth and I just can’t make a decision. Black Hornets or SEVR 1.5? Fixed vs Mechanical I know but that’s what I’ve narrowed it down to
Man, those are both great choices. I'd feel confident with either one in my quiver. In super long shots or windy conditions, the Sevr 1.5 will fly better. But it's hard to beat the cut on contact tip of the Magnus. The Sevr will handle a hard impact better (I shot one into a cinder block three times without it being damaged significantly), but the Black Hornet will cut more tissue and penetrate a bit better.
This video reaffirms my choice for Magnus BHs to be my first broadheads. Just getting into bowhunting. Any recommended budget-friendly arrows? I think I'm picking up some gold tip hunters, and maybe some carbon impact arrows from my local bow shop, have you used them? My bow is a hoyt (not sure of the model) from circa 2003, a gift from my gf's father. I've been shooting it a few months now and I'm very excited to get into hunting.
If you look back, the shaft from the Black Hornet definitely penetrated farther. I understand why you measured it the way you did. This is the first time I have picked up on this. Would it be beneficial if you measured the entire length of each with the heads on and then subtracted the length of what each has left sticking out after the test? I could be wrong. Just an idea.
Looking back, it really looks as though the tips of each broadhead are almost exactly the same distance. But if you take into account what I mentioned above, the black hornet definitely had more penetration (less arrow left sticking out of the medium).
Yes, the shaft penetrated deeper, but due to the length of the Stinger, it penetrated further. The angles may not shot that in the vid, but I am sure about the measurements.
@@JohnLuskOutdoors if you measure from the throat of the nock to the tip of the broadhead and subtract the length of the shaft from the throat of the nock to the first medium, you will see what I'm trying to say. I understand your side. Could you try it once to see if I might be on to something?
I understand what you are saying, and that is a valid point. But I'm only measuring total depth of penetration. Like, if the opposite side hide of an animal was at 9.1 inches, the Black Hornet would not have penetrated it, but the Stinger would have. That's my point in measuring it this way. Both heads did very well.
I’ve been looking into foc lately as i need to make some changes away from mechanicals that aren’t getting the job done. I’m curious what your weight is on this arrow setup? I’m trying to dial in what I need to get the job done on white tails here

Thank you Slayer. Man, because I test so many heads, I like to try them out in the field as well...so I typically have 3 or 4 different heads in my quiver. Right now the Sevr 1.5 is my "go to" head for most situations.
Question. I'm a new subscriber. I've order some 125 black hornets. Still not sure just yet on either 455 grain arrows or 500 . I'm at 55 pound draw weight and 26 in draw. 20 yds and under is my normal shooting range
For that set up, you'd be fine with either weight arrow. I'd just see which one flies better for you. But at 20 yds, either will work fine--the 500 will give you a bit more penetration.
Sorry this a comment on an old test. When I look on the magnus website it shows the black hornet ser-razor 125 g as 1 7/16 cut. The 100 g is 1 5/16? You mention this is the 125 version with 1 1/4 cut?
I just checked this out and now I remember what I said. Those listed dimensions are the lengths of the blades, not the cutting diameters. The cutting diameters are as noted in the vid.
I added a comment about that in the vid. I found some inconsistencies in some water bag tests, where the bag tore rather than just got cut...which confused the results. So I just ordered the thickest zip lock bags made, 8 mil, and will try it with them.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I definitely like these heads tho. But something about the annihilator broadheads I just fell in love with. I have a 300 spine axis 550 grain arrow with 125 grain broadhead. I had stop shooting my fobs.. my new bow has to tight of a string angle. So I had to find some new vanes. I ended up buying 2 different styles. I got tac driver and bohning 3" x vanes. The tac vanes will not stick and the bohning vanes are probably the best vanes I've ever fletched with. I havent got to try them over 30 yards yet. But up to 30 yards they are really deadly

That's a good question. I focus on both. I try to keep both eyes open, check the bubble, then line up the sight housing with the peep, then float the pin over the target and begin to squeeze.
Lusk Archery Adventures So as you squeeze the trigger your focus goes back and forth btw the target and the pin as opposed to your pin being in focus and your target is fuzzy ( like when aiming a pistol)?

I commented on that in the vid. I found some inconsistencies with the water bag test while I was doing this test. I noticed that on one shot the bag tore and skewed the results. So I suspended that test. However, I ordered the thickest ziplock bags made and will try with those. Hopefully they won't tear.
That's a good question, Kevin. You really can't go wrong with either one. If I used a Kudu, it would be the Contour Plus, as it has those extra bleeder blades added, and that opens up a nice hole. Honestly, I'd probably lean toward the Black Hornet, but if I didn't have much KE or Momentum, I'd go with the Kudu Contour.

I shoot the Magnus stinger 2 blade 100 grain heads and they have served me very well. They are easy to tune and have great penetration.

It's been repeatedly proven deer react to arrow flight and not so much bow noise.

The Blackhornet Ser Razor is legit. It's the only broadhead I've used for the last 4+ years. I call it the flying battle axe..

They do fly surprisingly well. I prefer the Black Hornet's flight, but that may just be due to my own errors.

Probably a 9--love those heads. Their only weakness is a super hard impact, like cinder block.

Man I’ve going back forth and I just can’t make a decision. Black Hornets or SEVR 1.5? Fixed vs Mechanical I know but that’s what I’ve narrowed it down to
Man, those are both great choices. I'd feel confident with either one in my quiver. In super long shots or windy conditions, the Sevr 1.5 will fly better. But it's hard to beat the cut on contact tip of the Magnus. The Sevr will handle a hard impact better (I shot one into a cinder block three times without it being damaged significantly), but the Black Hornet will cut more tissue and penetrate a bit better.
This video reaffirms my choice for Magnus BHs to be my first broadheads. Just getting into bowhunting. Any recommended budget-friendly arrows? I think I'm picking up some gold tip hunters, and maybe some carbon impact arrows from my local bow shop, have you used them? My bow is a hoyt (not sure of the model) from circa 2003, a gift from my gf's father. I've been shooting it a few months now and I'm very excited to get into hunting.

I hear Mike Sohm prefers the serrazor, so that's what I would recommend.
If you look back, the shaft from the Black Hornet definitely penetrated farther. I understand why you measured it the way you did. This is the first time I have picked up on this. Would it be beneficial if you measured the entire length of each with the heads on and then subtracted the length of what each has left sticking out after the test? I could be wrong. Just an idea.
Looking back, it really looks as though the tips of each broadhead are almost exactly the same distance. But if you take into account what I mentioned above, the black hornet definitely had more penetration (less arrow left sticking out of the medium).
Yes, the shaft penetrated deeper, but due to the length of the Stinger, it penetrated further. The angles may not shot that in the vid, but I am sure about the measurements.
@@JohnLuskOutdoors if you measure from the throat of the nock to the tip of the broadhead and subtract the length of the shaft from the throat of the nock to the first medium, you will see what I'm trying to say. I understand your side. Could you try it once to see if I might be on to something?
I understand what you are saying, and that is a valid point. But I'm only measuring total depth of penetration. Like, if the opposite side hide of an animal was at 9.1 inches, the Black Hornet would not have penetrated it, but the Stinger would have. That's my point in measuring it this way. Both heads did very well.

I’ve been looking into foc lately as i need to make some changes away from mechanicals that aren’t getting the job done. I’m curious what your weight is on this arrow setup? I’m trying to dial in what I need to get the job done on white tails here
I am using a 20% foc. My total arrow weight is 460 grs.

I prefer the Black Hornet, even for your set up. Penetration, flight, durability...all excellent.

I shoot 27.5 #70 but I use the black hornets and they fly so straight I harvested a deer yesterday using them 25 yards they are dead on !

I can't remember what happened, as it was a couple years ago. The angle of the camera often makes penetration look different than it actually is.
Black hornet is more acurate, they are shorter? I think its more durable. Magnus is a good broadhead brand.

Thank you Slayer. Man, because I test so many heads, I like to try them out in the field as well...so I typically have 3 or 4 different heads in my quiver. Right now the Sevr 1.5 is my "go to" head for most situations.
How far were your standing when you first shot? From the sounds of it, I think I could have dodged your arrow. Lol. It was like a good 2 seconds.

Question. I'm a new subscriber. I've order some 125 black hornets. Still not sure just yet on either 455 grain arrows or 500 . I'm at 55 pound draw weight and 26 in draw. 20 yds and under is my normal shooting range
For that set up, you'd be fine with either weight arrow. I'd just see which one flies better for you. But at 20 yds, either will work fine--the 500 will give you a bit more penetration.

Sorry this a comment on an old test. When I look on the magnus website it shows the black hornet ser-razor 125 g as 1 7/16 cut. The 100 g is 1 5/16? You mention this is the 125 version with 1 1/4 cut?

I just checked this out and now I remember what I said. Those listed dimensions are the lengths of the blades, not the cutting diameters. The cutting diameters are as noted in the vid.

No water test?
I added a comment about that in the vid. I found some inconsistencies in some water bag tests, where the bag tore rather than just got cut...which confused the results. So I just ordered the thickest zip lock bags made, 8 mil, and will try it with them.

@@LuskArcheryAdventures I definitely like these heads tho. But something about the annihilator broadheads I just fell in love with. I have a 300 spine axis 550 grain arrow with 125 grain broadhead. I had stop shooting my fobs.. my new bow has to tight of a string angle. So I had to find some new vanes. I ended up buying 2 different styles. I got tac driver and bohning 3" x vanes. The tac vanes will not stick and the bohning vanes are probably the best vanes I've ever fletched with. I havent got to try them over 30 yards yet. But up to 30 yards they are really deadly

Thanks Luke. That's a good plan. If you can afford, IWs, then get them :) Black Hornets are great as well, especially for the price point.
Basic question: When you are at full draw are your eyes focused on the pin/scope or the target?
That's a good question. I focus on both. I try to keep both eyes open, check the bubble, then line up the sight housing with the peep, then float the pin over the target and begin to squeeze.
Lusk Archery Adventures So as you squeeze the trigger your focus goes back and forth btw the target and the pin as opposed to your pin being in focus and your target is fuzzy ( like when aiming a pistol)?

Well, when it's serrated like that, you really don't need to sharpen the inner grooves, just the outer edge, just like a standard blade.
Can you tell me where to purchase the Magnum Ser Razer 125? I can't find them Anywhere, and what Looks like the Magnum website (magnusbroadheads . com) looks fishy to me, like a false site because of the layout and it's shown in browser as "not secure". I also don't see the 125gr on it. Please help! Really want to get a set of these.
I just do a Google Search. If I can't find them there, I check on Ebay.
Do you tune your broad heads in the arrows before flight test?
Nope...I just screw them on and shoot them at 70 yds for the test.
No water bag test with these?
I commented on that in the vid. I found some inconsistencies with the water bag test while I was doing this test. I noticed that on one shot the bag tore and skewed the results. So I suspended that test. However, I ordered the thickest ziplock bags made and will try with those. Hopefully they won't tear.

Yeah, I didn't use FOBs in all of the tests. I have a mix of arrows that I use.
For a elk would you go with the black hornet or Kudupoint?
That's a good question, Kevin. You really can't go wrong with either one. If I used a Kudu, it would be the Contour Plus, as it has those extra bleeder blades added, and that opens up a nice hole. Honestly, I'd probably lean toward the Black Hornet, but if I didn't have much KE or Momentum, I'd go with the Kudu Contour.
