  • This video is a follow-up to the 2023 Broadheads Test. Magnus broadheads have worked very well for me in the past, but during the 2023 Broadheads Test, that wasn't the case. In this video, I test for consistency using 8 Magnus broadheads. Note that I am testing how they perform on my current setup only. Results on any other bow may be quite different.

    I am the Magnus engineer and R&D person. Here is what I can tell you. With a 50 gr insert & 125 gr head, on a 300 spine arrow, 70#, 29.5 draw, at 300 spine, you are on the cutting edge of the spine. What Victory does not do is provide spine charts for heavy inserts and heads over 100 gr. This combo weakens the effective spine, so you often need to error on the side of heavier spine in these situations. When you are on the razor edge like this, bow tune and shooting form become very critical. The slightest thing off and you will get erratic flight. If it were me, I'd drop out the 50 gr inserts or I'd go to a 250 spine arrow with this setup.

      One other thing that is crucial about this setup. I love the victory shafts but those halfouts bend on targets. I’ve tested it on brand new arrows. Spin test and all on my build. I went out and shot all 12 at a block target. Btw I also spin test with broadheads mainly stingers because I can see the point clearly. Anyway, all 12 arrows had a wobble after hitting the target. I tried different broadheads and all were off target, by a few inches.
      So my point, you can’t do a broadhead test with shafts that use halfouts.

    Enjoyed the video. I wished you had tied Sugar off, I was a bit worried and I know it's distracting to some degree. I had to raise my targets up to 4' or so because our dogs. Most of your shots were right so definitely a pattern. Would like to see the same test with weight removed or different arrows. Thanks, Dozier

      Thanks. We are redoing the test now with a whole new setup so hopefully we will get a good comparison and hopefully confirm my thought that the setup has a lot to do with the flight.

    Good video & info. I think the test should be done from a bench with a 400 fps crossbow. That'll minimize user shot errors

      @iamthepawpaw  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only issue with that is that it’s a fixed shooter. I’m fixing to purchase a hooter shooter so I can change out the bows. That is my whole premise for the test. Different broadheads shoot differently with different setups.

    Interesting. My wife and I went to Magnus (after a different broadhead failed and cost us a 5x5 bull elk) and we get great flight from the 100 grain black hornet ser razor (me) and the stinger buzzcut (wife). In fact we actually get slightly tighter groups with the broadheads. I guess it shows you should try different heads with different setups to see what works with your equipment. Thanks for the vid, good info

    You need to follow up each broadhead shot with a field point. That's the quick way to know if it's your bow center shot being off a bit. I don't think it's an arrow spine issue with your setup. I have always been able to stack my field points on top of the Magnus heads out to 60 yards. My arrows are Easton Axis Match 340 with a 75gr. half out insert with a 125gr. head/point w/ a 74lb. DW and 30" DL.

    • @iamthepawpaw
      @iamthepawpaw  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but my field points and most every other Broadhead I shot didn’t so I can only assume it is the design of the Broadhead in relation to the arrow and my current set up. I will be doing another one with a couple different bows next to hopefully show the different results.

    The snuffer ss doesnot come razor sharp, they come file sharp, the snuffer ss is the only broadhead in our lineup which we donot make, it is made by a laser welding company located in california and we sell it under our name.

      @iamthepawpaw it makes a big difference, I don't know how the ower of magnus hasn't caught onto that. He says, just screw it o and it'll fly true, and then he does it on a video, and his broadheads are all over the place. The best part is that he says good enough 🤣

    • @iamthepawpaw
      @iamthepawpaw  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I’ve tinkered with that. But, I am actually going up in pounds. I’m also tinkering with spine. Some bows like a stiffer spine and some like a weaker one.

  • @Limestonebowhunter
    @Limestonebowhunter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You need to tune that bow better, spine your arrows correctly and start again. You admitted on numerous shoots that you punched the trigger and made bad shots. I literally sell 100+ Magnus 3 packs a year and when my customers (or my own) bows are set up properly, magnus fly incredibly well.

    • @iamthepawpaw
      @iamthepawpaw  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I agree with you on everything except the fact that the Magnus didn’t fly well out of that one bow. They are flying great out of every other bow I’ve had. My bows are set up and tuned, my arrows are all bare shaft and nock tuned. I just see it as a ballistic dynamic and that is all.

  • @wrmartin73
    @wrmartin73 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    From what I’m seeing I would assume your under spined. Won’t see it with field points but you will with a fixed blade broadhead. My guess is you will struggle to get any fixed blade to fly with your current setup without additional tuning. Jump up in spine and I bet you’ll be shooting darts.

    • @iamthepawpaw
      @iamthepawpaw  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s what I thought but I actually went down from a 300 to a 350 and they are flying even better now. I think it’s a Mathew’s thing. I just got a Hoyt RX8 Ultra so I’m going to see how they fly with that one.
