Hedgehog Space Program is another legitimate name for a speedrun technique in Frontiers, so Sonic speedrunners have a long legacy of naming these things well, I guess.
I like how the baloon airship thing at 29:06 says "got ring?" So its like the game is mocking you.

I love how for city escape there’s this unknown skip that was done by some random guy years ago and to this day no one knows how he did, not even himself. Truly a mystery I can’t wait for someone to solve.

Discussed near the end. You somehow clip off the famous loop before the wall run by spindashing and homing attacking to the side, eventually flying off the side of it into the Truck segment.
Are you referring to son1cgu1tar? The description of his video says his friend taught him how to do it, so he _does_ know how he did it.

Im pretty sure the devs pretty much assumed someone would accidentally miss a powerup and made all of the stages possible to prevent softlocks
ive played this game for the gamecube era and i literally never knew that rocket existed til this video
ive known about it since i was a kid purely cuz my friend was bad at video games and would always fall there lol

He only shows up in the Battle remaster. One of the many wonderful additions. 😂

Honestly I never forgot about King Boom Boo mostly because of the silly noises he makes and the music that plays with it. He's very memorable to me because of his sounds.
I never forgot about him because I never knew how to beat him correctly, I just kept looping until he didn’t turn around

Yeah, he's definitely the most memorable boss in the game besides the Biolizard and obviously Finalhazard.
That rocket in Metal Harbor is there since that's the first time in the series that you're supposed to use the lightspeed dash whilst running.
The rest of the lines of rings in that level are in controlled environments to get the player used to the ability.
The reason you pick up the power up so high up is so you have to lose all of your momentum in the level, so you can approach the first lightspeed dash as slow as possible. It's a design choice that allows for you to keep your momentum on repeat playthroughs too

You did my poor man king boom boo dirty, he's just a goofy ghost. As a child he really was my favourite bossgihht, he has so many expressive voicelines and the ambiance he just so funky, plus you get to see knuckles running extra fast, I dunno I really like it!
I agree. He may not be plot relevant, but he's fun and unique.
He might exist only to give knuckles a boss fight besides rouge though. Tails already only has his rival fights.
The russian youtuber named retro freak tried to do a ringless run on sa2 in 2020. He overcame the Crazy Gadget with glitch spin dashing into a wall in the Light Dash section and then getting to the Goal without the speedrun tricks,, So there are indeed multiple ways to go on that one, less technical and more of the 'feel' ones. Great job!! the King boom boo anxiety is real...

Just a tip for Biolizard: If you homing attack a specific part of its body really fast, you can climb up the body without having to worry about the dark orbs

For clarification, this was done on Dolphin simply because it was quicker to boot that up than to login into Steam and set that up to record in OBS. Did later test on the Steam version. It still works, and can be done without Bounce Bracelet. Zero Rings/Zero Score City Escape is perfectly doable on more recent hardware.

YO I’ve been playing SA2 for like 18 years and I never knew there was that hidden rocket in Metal Harbor
This is why I love seeing stuff like this. It's amazing to see speedrunners and challenge runners do games in ways you wouldn't even imagine.
If I ever make a game, I'd honestly be looking forward to what they do.

You can definitely get more then one hit on King Boom Boo in a cycle, but getting all 4 the first one would be extremely difficult.
In all the years of having this game, I've only done it ONCE. Three hits in one go is super easy but that last one is something else!

This man is a genius. They should just take this whole videos idea and turn it into a official challenge called, "ringless run" and if you collect a ring then you will die immediately.
But the City escape rings that where you have to go under the sign those rings are going to be gone and the pulley rings, that's going to be gone too.
All impossible rings really.

If I’m being honest, not telling us how you beat final rush ringless kinda seems like a copout 😐 isn’t the point of the video to show us that you went through the stage not getting rings? It can seem kinda fishy when you just cut to the end with a zero ring count cause you could’ve gotten hit before the goal

I actually knew about the Rocket in Metal Harbor through playing Randomizer. It's so funny that it's there, but I'm not complaining about being able to beat the level without light speed shoes lol
Gonna be honest, starting a stage with Rings you didn't actively collect shouldn't count, since it's not like you wanted to have them. I don't even understand why the game gives them to you (aside from Golem) because there's no immediate threat you'd need protection from anyway, weird choices the Devs made there

Funny story about City Escape: Look at the Every Level as Knuckles/Rouge series. SONIC might not be able to finish city escape without rings but the treasure chars can.
A tip for rouge v knuckles. you can just spam drilldive really fast and beat the boss in a few seconds.
18:30 you can hit the golem with light speed attack, doing so he will take double damage from the attack, minimizing the number of times you have to land thus minimizing the chance of collecting a ring on landing.

On pyramid cave, you don't even need the key . You can do a specific spindash and clip through the door

It's interesting how difficult combat becomes when you're ringless all the time. It would be interesting to try playing this with a mod that constantly sets your ring count 0 (except while super i guess) and try to speedrun it like that

jayzes, not only did the dude beat RadicalHighway without Rings, not only did he beat it with an insanely-low score (how do you even Get just 1 point?), but he also did all that in less than two minutes?? thats around the same time i get on that level, when im Unrestricted...hopefully he waited a good coupla minutes before touching the Goal Ring though, or else that TimeBonus is gonna ruin such a perfectly low score :-P
You get 1 point through modding. It is impossible in the base game to have 1 point.
I go full speed down the vent in Metal Harbor and never hit the ring boxes anyway.

On the Golem fight with Sonic, using Ancient Light deals double damage. There's a way to exploit this with practice.

But I completely disagree on all the stages where rings were collected, just say no they can not be completed ringless. Rings were collected during the stage, regardless if you had control or not.
As a kid, I always loved the king boom boo boss fight. It spooked me, and yet I thought the fight was fun

I feel like a precise spin dash and jump on the last part of radical highway may be possible. It'll definetly very tricky to pull it off
The first time I did the Dark Story Egg Golem boss fight was a nightmare, but when I did the Hero version of the fight it was a cake walk.
You can Clip through the key doors in pyramid cave and avoid even getting the keys.
I could never forget King Boom Boo. I was stuck on that fucker for YEARS as a kid.
FIVE RINGS. AND THEN FIVE RINGS. BUT THEN FIVE RINGS? FIVE RINGS. FIVE. RINGS.
Jesus that bit was REALLY hard to sit through. We get it. Our memory retention is in fact longer than 5 seconds.
The video proving the skip came out after this, but the "SA2B Set Me Free/G.U.N Truck Skip (Successful Attempt)" youtube video suggests you can just jump over the checkpoint and booster area that spawns the gun truck

Last shadow fight is hard but you can cheese it early on because it's easier to get multiple hits early. There are speed run starts you can watch for it.
