I work for a refinishing company, and 99% of our business is removing powder coat, because it fails. It's durable, but it doesn't expand and contract with the metal. Once it cracks moisture gets in and accelerates the corrosion. Eventually the powder coat will flake off in big sheets. Polyurethane would be far superior for this
Ont top of better surfaces Finnish
The wrong powder for the application.
So why didn't you metal finish the quarter panels before it was powder coated? They look bad.
Agreed. Do as much bodywork before primer/coating
People dont seem to understand you can do regular bodywork and paint over the powdercoat, this is not the finished prouct. Your basically replacing the epoxy most people use with a powdercoat.
Good put. Not that we didn't understand. But more it wasn't made clear. When I saw the 'after' and that the quarters were not body worked, I assumed the powder coat was a primer coat.
Yeah when I saw the quarters I thought dang the dents suck, but then I realized something had to be done, and I thought maybe they were going to body work it and then either paint it, or reporter coat it, as there had to be away to get a perfect power coat finish since you see other large parts with perfect finishes …the idea of a finished product would of been cool on a car if there was away to do it..
You need to pick up a roller hoop rotisserie
Not really 😩
Flat straps for the bracing was a bad idea. Some 4x2 cut in half would be much stronger and only one inch thick it's low profile and will look much better like you put some thoughts into what your doing.
Cool do it on yours
@@robsmith6093 no need I'm not hacking mine it's original
I Agree, when I saw that I thought are you serious, flat bar ?. But then again when I saw the shop owner running his hand across fresh sandblasted metal , I don't think these guys really know what they should know. ......Next
I was looking for a comment that saw that too!
There's a reason why they put bends in those! Support and rigidity...
I wonder how long it'll take for it to bow
I don't understand powder coating a car body that isn't even ready for finish paint. You can clearly see that there is still body work to be done. Am I missing something here?
You can paint over powdercoating just like a primer?
Yes, exactly.
That's lucky as you could see all the imperfections in the body work when it came out & the sun hit the tops of the bed. Will the powder coating make it rust proof?
@@vette63 It will be rust proof if they use the right powder and they got a smooth finish with no pin holes from foreign contributions in the heat.
There is powder coating that is a primer also.
Rust loves to creep along under powder coating, rust hates paint.
Jody mockin here. I’ve always wondered what this would look like, freaking awesome tic tok sent me here. The work is gonna keep me here
The cool thing about electrostatic coating is it gets around corners and into places that paint can’t. Nice work! 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Not true. You have to watch for crevices that will have any air pockets in them once the powder is covering it. It will bubble up and pop in the heat and you will have ugly bare spots.
@@garycarraigeacha8794 …I had an ugly bare spot once….
They have electrostatic spray guns just the same. Used them for years.
That rear passenger quarter is mangled.. How do they plan to fix that AFTER powder coating? Baffling why they would leave that like that and send it to powder. Otherwise it's a great looking project
They don't. That is the problem with powder coat. It is hard to touch up.
I had no idea you could powder coat an entire car. Isit more cost effective or more expensive?
Powder coat is $20 a pound will do 8 semi wheels prep is super costly
Cool👍
I had a media blasting business and used crushed glass. The surface was a lot cleaner than other medias. I wonder why they used garnet. I am sure they have a reason, and know what they are doing. Just stumbled on you channel and will look forward to this project.
That rotisserie is awesome.
Another " deadline" show..zzzzzzzzzzz
Is the Powder Coat being used as a primer or is it the final surface ?
Either way, it looks great and that's a very cool rotisserie jig too.
We restored a 59 Elky to all original 348 tri power/ factory AC a few years ago . Super cool guys!!!!!
going over how you made the dolly would be helpful
Im curious if powdercoating a car makes sense cause its not super flexible. I feel like if you hit a bump or roll over something uneven, there will be some chassis flex which will lead to the coating to crack and become a space for moisture to get in
Only problem as far as I know with Powder Coating the Body, Is that you could not use any Filler, cause your Baking...
They make fillers for powder coating.
Bare metal ➡️ powder coat ▶️ filler ▶️ sand & block ▶️ primer & paint.
The powder coat is a way to protect the metal & stop rust. If it looks good, even better.
Look at that bedside at 8:30!!!!!! The bodywork on the El Camino is crap!! It's ruined......
BEFORE powder coat your entire car, it would be better to dip entire body of your car into ANTI CORROSION ACID.
The music junked another video 👎👎👎👎💩💩😬
Dang it. We’re working on making these videos better. Thanks for the feedback. We really do appreciate it 🙏
What would be GREAT is if you could put the plans for the Rotisserie🤟
I wonder how hard it would be to do a Chevy S10. Pick up a full powder code frame body. Interior exterior everything all black. Please comment back, thank you.
Was I the only one who was not impressed with that rear quarter.
WTH were all those dents and dimples?
It looks shiny but more like a polished turd...gotta stick with actual body work and quality paint.
Out of all the Colors, 🖤 Dyamn!!!!!! That Truck looked Trick at the end.
Why didn't you do the doors, tailgate, n hood at the same time? Or did u just not show that?
Anyway Nice job!
Cheer's from Fla.
Cool! I've wondered if anyone did whole vehicles in powder coat.
Now the fun part begins!
David Freiburger's F bomb Camaro was completely powder coated way back in the early 2000's.
Are you able to do a 2 tone on on a Chevy S10 pick up black and copper. The copper would be going around the wheel well and along the bottom of the door
IMPOSSIBLE!
That’s what I said
The good stuff starts at 3:45!
Let's gooo total cool powderoat
I’m looking forward to seeing it at GNRS!!
Great vids just subbed only thing is the music is so loud vs the talking have to turn sound up and down every time 😢
We are working on that thanks for the feedback!
I didn't want to hear about the other stuff just the powder coating
I'm Gonna give a HELL yeah
Greatest ideas to protect amazing cheve
Looks great guys! Looking forward to watching the rest of this build!
More to come!
Now that's just dumb unless it's going to be a museum car. Powder Coat chips and it's not repairable like paint.
Why you bitching better the rotting in a field rite?
That powder coating is butt ugly and far from a shower finish. Rough on the sides, with blemishes.... who would want that??
This is basically the primer coating. Regular body work to follow.
There is no better technique to protect the metal, looking good.
Especially when you’re close to the beach!
Delorean frames were powdercoated. It cracked, moisture gets in and rusted. Most Delorean frames are trash.
The few shots if finished surfaces shower blemishes. This cannot be the final finish for a show car.
@@larrysorenson4789 They used the wrong powder then.
these give aways only for your country or world wide.
Great question
T-shirt give away is world wide. Hot Rod give away is USA only.
Cool but I wonder if the “Mystery Client” will wave back at the long panels?
Ha! This is only the base layer, bodywork and block sanding begin now. Watch upcoming videos. 👊
@@MackeysHotRodShop Will Do! You now have my undivided attention!
Sure dose Brain thanks for the show guys have a badass weekend later
Did you mean *does Brian*?
I have driven by Primo's a million times, it was cool to see behind the curtain. Subscribed, looking forward to see how this comes out!!!
I have been wanting , an old hot rod for the longest time and just cannot get ahead to buy work on or even start any kind of project from losing my job to health, to lose my sister to cancer and motorcycle wreck, me and girlfriend on a bike going 5 mph and another guy and his wife hit us from behind going 60 and he ending up dying on the seen…..It just keeps coming and coming and I don’t know why plus I’ve never won anything so that’s out of the question .. to the one who wins the truck enjoy and take care of it… hope you love it !!!!! but you guys are awesome man love the video and you guys are answering my question on…..Can you powder coat vehicle? I’ve always wondered if that could be done and what it would take in here we go, so good luck guys appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work.
Sure is a pretty start!
Wow, the older Asian fella doing that work is impressive.
Feel like I should be seeing him doing pilates in the community park instead of this type of work.
Even powder coating needs primer first. One day that topcoat is going to crack or chip and then there is bare metal to start rusting. Always use sinc primer on metal and epoxy primer on aluminium parts thst are going to be used outdoors. Those primers are powders too. Everybody knows this, but this is just a reminder.
THAT LOOKS AWESOME !!!
Primo legends, you make complicated resto work look simple! Enjoying watching your hard work, can't wait to see it finished.
It’s funny how people have to touch things when it just got done sandblasting. Oil and salt from your skin will make it rust again.
💯
This why you never trust a blaster to prime as well .. there just not at the same level of attention
That's why they needed it up in the oven before coating.
Why spend so much time and money on the first copycat of the awesome 57 Ranchero?
Good stuff!
Cool Video
This is a great channel I love your work
Glad you enjoy it!
@@MackeysHotRodShop do you have a video showing how you made your rotisserie dolly/lift??
I love the thought of doing this, however the quarter panels look like waves!
Primo does some killer work.
They sure do!
Nice work guy’s 🙋♂️🇦🇺⚡️
Wow, powder coat the body? That's rad!
The frame holding the car body...How did the casters hold up inside that oven at 400?
Steel casters
Beautiful work
Thank you! Cheers!
What is the cost compared to other processes?
I knew a fellow who connected the stinger of his welder to his paint gun and the ground clamp tp the body of the tractor or car or whatever he was painting. He said his paint stuck better.
Manufacturers use an electric charge when they paint vehicles.
Just found you great work
😅 great job I like the idea
Question. If you powdercoat you can't use body putty to smooth the panels? So how do you finish the body for show?
After powder coat, we scuff with 80g and apply body filler. From then on, it’s standard paint and body practice.
@@MackeysHotRodShop thanks for replying, so the powdercoat is more for protection then?
Nice work! I can't wait to see the body on the chassis.
You and me both!
wow very cool
Do you have any plans or a video for the rotisserie

@@whitebeardadventures9208 is there an email or instagram we can reach you at?
Why are you powder coating the whole car at this stage??
Rust prevention…just like epoxy primer.
@@slvrktman7824 I figured this. But why not use epoxy primer? Gotta be cheaper and since this'll be a show car in CA (I assume), rust will never be an issue.
Wow
Thank you 🙏
