Grant! I just want to say you are killing it! Feels like you have been filming for a long time, then you have been! You're a natural mate, and I love it!
Powder coating is super fun. Did it for a custom shop for about a year full-time. Never got to do a full chassis but did a LOT of lift kits and wheels. Love that you showed as much of the process as possible. I don't think many people understand how much work goes into powder coating.
I've been powder coating for 5 years now. I've done huge projects. Entire rollercoasters, dump truck beds, huge steel stairways, art installations. It it so much fun and rewarding when everything turns out perfect
Wow. What a crazy process. Make a shirt with the chassis hanging before powder coat. And on the back of the shirt, have the finished livery. Awesome watching your channel grow. Cheers Grant
I worked on a powder coat line years ago, for Altec, an bucket truck and digger Derrick company. Obviously it was new production, so slightly different process than this. But there's some learning on how to powder coat. There's an electric current that runs through the product and that's how the powder sticks. Can't go too light or too heavy. With that, you have to spray a certain way, your gun has to be a certain distance away from what your spraying but it's fairly easy. I worked on a assembly line, the parts with through a giant media blaster, then clean out and weld inspect, then powder coat, then in the oven, then inspection. Sent back through if any discrepancies. You can re-cook them, no harm no fowl
I did a few chassis for old car owners and Land rover's many motorbikes and blasting was time consuming but we used shot, the hard job was wax oil as it is injected in to parts. Most want Black but some wanted Red and some wanted Candy Red, Blue & Purple so we always put an extra coating of Lacquer on those.
@@Dot-Ee It has it's ups and downs we had gas ovens and we had a shot blast room we built but the filters and compressors were a big cost along with the gas bill. also powder having a range in stock could build up fast.
@@negativeindustrial Well on motorbikes I have seen a frame take 5 years of abuse it was black and had lacquer (Professional Polyester based Powder Coating material with a tough and hard wearing finish). After 5 years he came in for a refresh and his bike was his main transport. A land rover driver came back after 3 years because he wanted his black frame done white? and I powdered my mums garden bench 15 years ago and the wood needs replacing again. it does well in salt and rain but it changes with stone chips and rock scrapes but basic weather it holds up more so if you use Lacquer.
Super cool to be able to see this whole process. Can’t imagine how satisfying it’ll be to bolt everything back on that fresh chassis. Thanks for documenting it!
Granto san great vid and it looks incredible can't wait to see more progress on the build and when it's finished so we can see you absolutely shredding 🤙 again and as always keep up the great work 👍
man, i miss powder coating. i did industrial parts, but its so satisfying when you get a beautiful lay of powder. I used to be the best at my job place and I miss it! this is beautiful!
I'm so excited to see this cars progress. Just subscribed. I really like you in everyone else's videos but didn't even realize you had a channel. You should plug your channel more on Jimmy's and Adam's channels. lol.
This is so cool seing you there. I've known Damon and Chris for over a decade. Haven't been their in some time but it's cool to see them always killing it. Good shit dude 👍🏼
Would be super interested in seeing a price breakdown on this. It seems like baking would be a much better option for me versus only blasting/acid dipping. Edit for Context - 1978 280z, rusty, needs a full strip.
Love seeing you and Jim take that next step on going pro! Definitely glad y'all both took time in Japan to learn up as much as you could in that 2 week frame!!! Keep up the grind. You are killing it as much as Jim and LZ!!!!!!!
couple years ago i sandblasted the inside of a piper ls400 aircraft and the sanding took roughly 2 hours but the cleanup took me 3 days and i dont talk about that restoration anymore
Hell yeah bro this has me so stoked for the progression this thing is about to go through can't wait to see the final outcome!!! Love the Videos one of my Favorite people on TH-cam!! Keep it up bro!!
I always wondered if this was possible, I want to do it to my Chevelle, but this is not a typical thing most places don't have a facility big enough or offer the service. It look awesome by the way!
Looks amazing! If you wanted to go crazy you could use a few cans of cavity wax in all the areas where the powder couldn’t reach such as inside rockers and rails. Although being a drift car it probably wouldn’t last long enough for rust to ever be a factor
As a powder coated myself ( been doing it for 10 years ) it’s blows my mind they didn’t powder prime it or even undercoat it to prevent it from rusting, as it’s can rust super super easy
the reason the inside floor looks different would be the different Composite of steel used on a car body, Floors for example are mostly thick galvaniseded panels, and that does not come of from baking the car.
I noticed you didn’t have to cover any of the threaded holes. Do you have to go back and chase all those holes like you would with paint? Looks insane man. Stoked for you!
Grant, get yourself a Parkit360 Trailer dolly. Would allow you to walk the trailer into the garage, which would make it a LOT easier to load/unload in your driveway. Also means you dont need to wait for people to help you to get it in there.
Great video Grant, I’m not one to usually comment but had to as I really appreciated seeing the process of powder coating and entire car (don’t recall seeing this before) legend keep up the good work and much love and respect from the uk 🇬🇧
Wow this turned out sick, I guarantee you will never regret doing this. They did an awesome job and it will hold up so well over time, especially with it being a drift car I bet you will always be glad that you went this route 👌
Looks good and nuts thats it the whole chassis! I see a few other guys powder coating. One thing im just not sure about, if u have to weld a bracket to the chassis, exhaust hanger etc or you have a ding and scratch the underside or a bash bar, does that not compromise the whole powder coat? Not hating, just asking a question as I've seen a few of these recently.
we have a oven/powder booth / wash booth where i work, each the size of a small garage and i’ve always wondered if i could powdercoat a entire car. very cool and interesting!
hell yes. . . looks amazing!!!! looks like james deane's new chasis going to be a joy to work on (that is unless the holes ALL get filled. . Oul peace, E
bro quality on that is through the roof. now I'm wondering if you could still say raptor line the under side of it and perhaps texture the inside so its not as slippery, but damn she looks good
you can try it if you like but i think the mic you are using clipped to your hat will work just as good if you clip it tp the rim of the hat behind your ear. that is if you were looking to hide it a little
As a materials engineer i can confirm that heating process is safe to the car, the dual phase steel would need up to 1000 degrees to have any negative impact
Would the powder not fill all of the threads though? Seems like you would have to run a tap through every hole to get the baked paint out..thats quite a few holes in the whole chassis.. looks amazing though.
Looks AMAZING!❤
Grant! I just want to say you are killing it! Feels like you have been filming for a long time, then you have been!
You're a natural mate, and I love it!
This thing turned out absolutely bonkers! Love this for you bro ❤

i always wanted to start a small business of doing powder coating for car chassis and what not. seems like so much fun
@@Dot-Ee It has it's ups and downs we had gas ovens and we had a shot blast room we built but the filters and compressors were a big cost along with the gas bill.

How well does it hold up in the UK? I’ve seen what rust does to y’all’s cars and it’s horrifying.

I’m still sooo glad you started a TH-cam channel, your videos are soo interesting and exciting to watch bro
Powder coating the entire chassis is a huge flex. This should always be the first step to a clean build.
Super cool to be able to see this whole process. Can’t imagine how satisfying it’ll be to bolt everything back on that fresh chassis. Thanks for documenting it!
Granto san great vid and it looks incredible can't wait to see more progress on the build and when it's finished so we can see you absolutely shredding 🤙 again and as always keep up the great work 👍
The audio is fantastic! Glad you went to a dedicated microphone

New mic is doing great for sound quality. Really cool to see the process and how much strips off. Turned out great!
That turned out amazing! I’ve seen wheels, bike frames and tons of other stuff powder coated but never a whole chassis. So freaking sick!
Would be super interested in seeing a price breakdown on this. It seems like baking would be a much better option for me versus only blasting/acid dipping.
Edit for Context - 1978 280z, rusty, needs a full strip.
that was so sick can’t wait for the build. i think white and black theme would go crazy
That's so cool, Grant, and I'm glad you had the opportunity to share a good bit of how it's done and looks during the process.
Love seeing you and Jim take that next step on going pro! Definitely glad y'all both took time in Japan to learn up as much as you could in that 2 week frame!!! Keep up the grind. You are killing it as much as Jim and LZ!!!!!!!
That is amazing cool 😎 best vid of the year so far 👏
Dude, that shit looks wild. I love it! It looks like one of those bmw cup cars now. I'm super stoked for this build man!
I am loving this build Grit. I love street cars as much as the next motorhead, but god damn do I love race cars, and this is some top level building!
I cant wait to see it put together, looks so good!
Such a rad video. Can’t wait to see you ceramic coat the whole thing !!
dude! first few seconds of the video! that was some nice editing.
Bro I’m excited your excited happy for you my man can’t wait to see it completed!
Now all you need to do is hit up Adam and Drift HQ to get some of those HGK carbon kevlar panels. I'm stoked to see the finished product.
love this way of filming ! it looks awesome! als the mic sounds perfect ! your stepping it up Grant duuuuudddee!!!
One of the sickest videos I have seen in a long time. Great job brother!
couple years ago i sandblasted the inside of a piper ls400 aircraft and the sanding took roughly 2 hours but the cleanup took me 3 days and i dont talk about that restoration anymore
Hell yeah bro this has me so stoked for the progression this thing is about to go through can't wait to see the final outcome!!! Love the Videos one of my Favorite people on TH-cam!! Keep it up bro!!
Looks perfect Grant! Good job from the guys at competitive edge
This is next level. Thanks for sharing the process. Can’t wait to see the car come together!
I always wondered if this was possible, I want to do it to my Chevelle, but this is not a typical thing most places don't have a facility big enough or offer the service. It look awesome by the way!
So pumped for ya dude! Big move right here. Can't wait to see it start coming together!
Looks amazing! If you wanted to go crazy you could use a few cans of cavity wax in all the areas where the powder couldn’t reach such as inside rockers and rails. Although being a drift car it probably wouldn’t last long enough for rust to ever be a factor
Thanks for explaining why you powder coat a car frame, I've seen another video about doing it but they didn't explain why, Rj in Oz
lets goo!! i was skeptical about powdercoating until i saw this , it came out looking fresh as hell , guys did an amazing job 👍
Damn sir, stepping it up for sure! powder coat is the ultimate for hard wearing and looking good too!
I would of love a crazy color but you cannot beat white is so clean .!!
livery will be crazy, just wanted a nice neutral base for the interior and underside
Awesome Grant...looks Amazing....those guy's do great work.
Better get your tap set ready to clean out all those threads!! Hopefully they plugged or taped some of it.
Can’t wait to see this build done
letsgooooo baby! fantastic job by the boys! ✌🏻
I’d been wondering how they powder coated an entire car. Thank you for showing the whole process so in depth, car looks fucking killer
Wow!!!!! Ant Granderson does it again. That looks soooo good. Too good. You’re not gonna want to drive it now. 😝 So rad!!!✌️🤩
That was pretty cool seeing a whole chassis get powder coated.
Badass ! That looks so mint 👍 can't wait to see that thing drifting Grant
As a powder coated myself ( been doing it for 10 years ) it’s blows my mind they didn’t powder prime it or even undercoat it to prevent it from rusting, as it’s can rust super super easy
What an elite flex 😮 shout out to those guys putting that work in too, what an effort. Top notch
The ole pat on the back....goes along way brother 🙏
After sandblasting and pre vacuuming it would be mint to paint it around 5-6 times on the rotisserie to help shake all the sand out haha
Would have never thought of doing a full car. Came out great!
the reason the inside floor looks different would be the different Composite of steel used on a car body,
Floors for example are mostly thick galvaniseded panels,
and that does not come of from baking the car.
Like magic! Epic start on this project, can't wait for more 🤘
That’s actually really cool thank you for showing the process !!
I noticed you didn’t have to cover any of the threaded holes. Do you have to go back and chase all those holes like you would with paint? Looks insane man. Stoked for you!
Amazing job on the chassis definitely worth the process and finish work looks so bad ass congratulations the shop really killed it 🤙
Congrats! The build progress is amazing!
Looking forwards to more of this. This looks like a cool process too. Glad I got to see it all done.
What a freakin sick transformation! So cool.
Notification SQUAD!!🔥🔥🔥
Grant, get yourself a Parkit360 Trailer dolly. Would allow you to walk the trailer into the garage, which would make it a LOT easier to load/unload in your driveway. Also means you dont need to wait for people to help you to get it in there.

Competitive edge is the best!! they just did my sons go kart chassis

Car looks sick! Can't wait to see it get put together 🤙
Looks amazing!!! Can't wait to watch this puzzle come together 🔥
Great results. Really enjoying the build!
That's effen sick alrite bruv .
This is going to be one hectic build
YOU!! are the red beard BEAST that is unmatched!! insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant say no more but bless up!!
Absolutely stunning 🤩. So glad you have a channel now.
Man I can’t wait for this to be done so we could watch you shred it!!! 💪🏽🤘🏽 .. ✌🏽all the way from LA socal🤙🏽
you can try it if you like but i think the mic you are using clipped to your hat will work just as good if you clip it tp the rim of the hat behind your ear. that is if you were looking to hide it a little
Love this Grant, and love you!
Great job showcasing a tradesman’s craft.
Rad process to see, 10/10 content
What was the cost of this if you don’t mind sharing? It looks awesome
As a materials engineer i can confirm that heating process is safe to the car, the dual phase steel would need up to 1000 degrees to have any negative impact
Omg. This car is going to be fire. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just wow. The car looks nuts!
Only downside is you'll have to run a tap thru all the threads in the chassis and clearance any holes like door hinges.
mic is dope add!!!! good job G
Would the powder not fill all of the threads though? Seems like you would have to run a tap through every hole to get the baked paint out..thats quite a few holes in the whole chassis.. looks amazing though.
baking the paint off in the powder oven…. damn. makes me really want to build an XL oven..
Looks amazing!!
Looking wild!
Keep up the good work, and there’s no way I’m the only one who thinks he needs to start daily vlogs!
This is incredible!!
Insanity!! I love it!
It came out beautiful
White is such a good color, it can match with literally everything.
Would you need to re-Seamseal It at all?
