Build your mini Content Creator Desktop Computer

  • It was finally the moment I retired my Windows 7 computer. I had been creating TH-cam content on it with Windows Movie Maker and realised that if I want to learn Davinci Resolve, I have to build a new computer.
And that was exactly what I did.
I've always been amazed by the small form factor builds and loved beautiful ITX cases like the Ncase M1. The SFF cases also have a reputation for being super expensive, until the moment Coolermaster came along with its NR200 featuring its competitive pricing and versatile compatibility.
Even better, NR200P was launched following the success of NR200 and it included both the mesh side panel as well as the tempered glass panel as a package. I bought the lovely white version in 2021 and my PC build finally begun.
The challenge of building a powerful mini desktop computer is the cable management, air flow and also precise clearance. It requires incredible amount of article reading and research, not forgetting TH-cam reviews.
I'd have gone with the i5-13600K for the performance vs price but because the build has to be powerful enough for video editing and not just gaming, I set my eyes on building with the i7-13700K which was highly touted as the best Intel processor for creators.
My last motherboard was ASUS P8P67m-pro and it has served me well. At that time, the B760 was released yet. With the urgent need to finish my build, I bought unknowingly the most premium ITX board from ASUS, the Strix Z790 I GAMING WIFI.
I have always preferred the trusty air cooling without risk of water damage, failed pumps and leakage. Finding an air cooler for the NR200P was difficult especially if you want to use the TG panel. I was not keen to modify air coolers to fit.
Fortunately, premium air cooler manufacturer NOCTUA released the NH-D12L which featured the 145mm tall air cooler that uses their 120mm round brown fan. This was perfect for the NR200P which supports coolers up to 153mm. I even bought 2 of their signature NF-A12x25 Chromax.Black case fans to go with the build.
As for the DDR5 Memory, I knew I had to go with CORSAIR. I used their DDR3 LPX and they never failed till this day. It was the launch of DDR5 and it was really tough getting a kit, let alone the Dominator series. Initially I wondered if I shouldn't have just gotten the 32gb kits with better cas, but finally I went with the 2x32gb 64gb CL40 kit at 6000MHz. To be honest, you won't tell the difference in cas, but as long as XMP works, it's perfect.
I also chose the well known CORSAIR power supply for SFF build, the modular SF750 with a good platinum 80 plus rating. While some would suggest getting a higher wattage PSU, the PC builder tool on PCpartpicker.com assured that the SF750 is sufficient enough.
Finally, I bought the CRUCIAL P5 PLUS 2TB NVME for my primary windows drive and CRUCIAL P3 PLUS 4TB NVME as my secondary for file storage. These are reliable gen4 drives from a well known subsidiary of Micron Technology, one of the largest semi conductor manufacturing company.
I have not regretted any of my purchases in this build and it worked perfectly as system stability was achieved. However, there are some minor incompatibilities between the case and the motherboard which I highlighted the workaround in the video.
I hope you enjoyed my video and thank you for watching.

This is the first video I edited with Davinci Resolve and I actually did labelled the chapters but unfortunately I didn't export it correctly.
    Sorry about it!
Please do like the video if you found it helpful, and subscribe if you want to see more! Thanks!

    Hi, are you from SEA?
What's the ambient temps like, just wanna put things into perspective as I am also thinking about buying this case

Hello there! Thank you for reaching out.
I'm based in France, so my ambient temperature is about 20-25 degrees Celsius most of the time.
Summer can go up to temperatures of 35 degrees, which I think is probably around your temperature in SEA.
I am Singaporean so I understand if you run your pc in an air conditioned room 25°C, should be good but you may want to consider the mesh panel if you want to be safe. NR200P has both options anyway :)
I believe your fan curve will probably start at 40-50% speed to maintain the CPU at 40°C comfortably.
      Hope this helps.

I'm looking at a similar build however I got the NH-C14S which is much larger. From what I have ready it will still fit but I don't think it's going to be as easy as that! >.

Hello there! I did shortlist the NH-C14S before the NH-D12L came to the market and yeah, I can totally understand how difficult it is to ensure everything fits.
Do try to confirm the ram clearance as well as ensure the height of the motherboard IO shroud does not block the heatpipes of the cooler. Also if you're considering mounting the cooler fan under the heatsink of the C14S, this can be quite crucial to the build.
Thank you for watching by the way. :)

pls i would like to ask if i am to run a PCIE gen 5 ssd with an RTX 4080 super , will there be bifurcation and also u did mention not to run the memtest with xmp profile , is that correct and if so why if i may ask , thanks and look forward to ur answer

Hello there, thank you for reaching out!
The 4080 Super is PCIE gen 4, so even if you use a gen5 SSD your system should still be able to use x16. The problem only comes if you use both a gen5 GPU and a gen5 m2 nvme in slot 1.
I mentioned in the video that I recommend running memtest at default speed first to test your kit. Once that's clear, you can run it again at the xmp speed to see if you can clear it again.
This is to ensure your kit is not faulty at factory default. If you can clear it on xmp, it means your ram is good to go.
If you run into blue screens or crash, it is usually some bios settings that's causing the problem.
      Hope this helps!

@@dyloncai thanks so much for the answer, and i am just same like u , i have been buying my pc parts slow and steady and i have this motherboard with a gen 5 ssd because i did see they mention it can support it ,so thanks for the explanation , i look forward to more of ur videos and you got my sub ,

I'm sure when your pc build is finished you'll be so happy. It is very difficult to take the first step to buy any parts and quite frustrating to see them lying around without building them.
I wish you good luck and I am thankful for your sub! Thank you!
