It feels like the band you'd go see on a summertime festival and it'd ened up being the best time for your life. I was born in 95 but would give anything to see Led Zeppelin live in their prime.
This may be the video, but the audio is from How the West was Won. The greatest thing about this music is no two performances are ever exactly the same...
It's not even all the video because some of the footage is from the double dvd that came out with "How the West was won. It's clearly the Immigrant Song footage at some points.
Wow! This is Zep live at their peak! Clean and professional. Audience wouldn't have known what hit them! -- even over 50 years later, this hits hard like a thunderbolt.
if i Lived in SYDNEY i WOULD Have GONE TO this CONCERT BUT i WAS Living in MELBOURNE Victoria Australia AND LED ZEPPELIN WERE THE GRATEST BAND OF THE 1970's
I was there. 17 years of age. Great acoustic segment ( where they asked everyone to sit down while they took seats at the front of the stage ) as well as the heavy stuff. My ears were ringing for 2 days after.
I was there. I was 17 at the time...The film footage taken from the band's performance at the Sydney Showground in Australia in February 1972; The audio track was from a Long Beach Arena show, in Los Angeles, in 1972.
just to be sure, the audio is from how the west was won that is from two concerts, the first was in LA 6/25/1972 and the second in Long Beach 6/27/1972, the video is from the sydney concert
This was a magical time to be young in Australia. Chilled, laid back, plenty of opportunity and great music. Still think Zeps best tracks were Ten Years Gone and Kashmir from the wonderful PHYSICAL GRAFFITI.
Jimmy used film from this tour to make the visuals for the live Immigrant Song video . Alas as an 8 year old I wasn't allowed to go to this concert . I ,much later met someone who did and they became an instant legend to me .
Well, interesting video but the sound track is from LA Forum on the "How the West was won," Live cd.. And at least some of the video, The close up footage, is from the Immigrant Song from the double live dvd that came out with "How the West was won." Which I do believe is from Australia. So pretty much a spliced together montage. Other stuff I don't recognize so I guess that could be from Blackdog at Sydney?
he caught the flu 3rd Jan 1973 hitchhiking. he played a show that day (England) really sick and did damage to his voice. he was never the same after that
Wherever this audio is from is pretty much one of the best live performances of this song that I've heard. Page is spot on here. I'm not a big fan of Zeppelin live because of Jimmy Page's sloppy Square notes as opposed to his outstanding articulate Studio work. Even the guitar solo was pretty good.
Because this soundtrack was remastered by Jimmy from the 1972 north American tour. Recorded either at the LA Forum on June 25 1972 or the Long Beach Areana on June 27 1972, or at Southampton University on January 22 1973. It is part of a 3 record live Album called ,"How the West was won" it was released by Atlantic records on May 27 2003 on CD . With a DVD released on October 7 2003. And on Blue-Ray in 2018. Led Zeppelin never had 2 performance that were exactly the same. Robert would freestyle the lyrics and Jimmy would create different tangents of the songs leads. Bonzo would be right on top of wherever Jimmy took the song. Totally just creating things as he played. That was part of what made them so great because they could do this live unrehurst , giving the fans a one of a kind performance. Sometimes it worked better then other times. I personally admire and enjoy the variations or the songs. Even if sometimes Jimmy is a little sloppy. The whole thing about it no other band at the time dare changing their songs. Every other bands live performance were well practiced and were repeated every night. With very little variation from the studio version. Led Zeppelin would take a 5 minuet song and it could be a 20 minute or 45 minutes live. That is why Led Zeppelin concerts were almost always 3 - 3 1/2 hours long. Literally making music live on the spot in front of sold out stadiums worldwide. It was Raw Talent that only maybe a handful of musicians could pull off. Jimmy would say ,We start the show with a Playlist and wherever the vibe of the audience was would influence the direction the song would go. He also had said that he would get into a zone not even thinking about what he is playing or what direction it went. BONZO had this sick esp type of tightness where he would follow Jimmy's direction and instinctively come up with fills and a beat that mimicked Jimmy. Similarly Robert would do the same with his vocals. But it was always Bonzo who kept things together and would transition back into the original Grove. Especially when Jimmy would just go off in one of his creative transes. Bonzo was there to snap him out. And JPJ and Bonzo were so tight,JPJ also had that esp tightness with Bonzo . Adding his own unique bass runs and solid rythm. 4 master musicians that each one would try and out due the other making for a once in a lifetime kind of musical genius that no other band had then or ever has since. The stars were aligned and it was destiny that these 4 equally talented master musicians came together. Each had perfected their instruments .and as 4 individuals when they were making music they where always together as one. That's why when we lost Bonzo on that sad September night that the band could no longer continue. You could not replace Bozo . No ther drummer would be able to instinctively follow Jimmy's playing. It would no longer be Led Zeppelin. Just like any member could not be replaced. It just wouldn't be the same. Sorry for the rant. I just get irritated some times when people knock their live performances. Because they don't stick to duplicating the studio version's of the songs. When you went to a Led Zeppelin concert you were going to get your money's worth and witness something no other band had the talent or balls to do. And that is to create music as a collective group playing and developing the music right there for all the lucky people who bought tickets to see them. That is what makes Led Zeppelin great. That is what made Led Zeppelin so popular.. That is why every concert was sold out well in advance.. and with such a high demand of fans that didn't get tickets to the first show they would regularly ad a second or third show to the venue each show selling out. Word would spread out like wildfire about their live performances. And fans would wait eagerly for the release of the next studio album. Never knowing what direction the band was going to take that album. All you knew is it's Led Zeppelin and the album would be produced to perfection. And with Jimmy's vision of sound and creativity. It always kept you wanting more counting the days until the new release would be available and buying your seats early when the tour dates were announced or else you would risk the chance of standing in a ticket line for a day or more only to have them be sold when you got to the ticket booth. Selling out in hours the same day they went on sale. Back then you knew you would be watching a true performance not just a repetitive rehersed show. You watched talent on loan from God. Each pouring their heart and soul into every song they played . That's how much they loved playing together a fun jam session just making music. That inspiration to be different to create something new. Pushing their instruments and themselves to levels far above any one else. Inspirering young musicians gor generations to come.. trying to copy and play like Led zeppelin. It is always easy to duplicate what others before you have created. But to be the first to think of a riff or to compose rather complicated unorthodox beats and rhythm sections with seamless transitions. Now that is brilliance. That is creative genius. Sadly in these days of auto tune, sound boards , simulated instrument. and computer development of generic rhythm and drums . People have lost the whole creativity of being a musician. There is no more Art in Artist. Music is now generated by 1 person and a mixing board. True musical talent has been replaced with putting sounds together on a computer. Tweaking your voice to auto tune or changing the sound of your voice completely. That is why there will never again be a band like Led Zeppelin. And why ,the were then, they are today and will forever be tomorrow. THE GREATEST BAND TO EVER GRACE THE STAGE. Timeless musical masterpieces that will be enjoyed by every generation that humans exist. In the year 2520 the alien nation will still be inspired and listening to Led Zeppelin . If you read my whole rant please give me a thumbs 👍 if to agree with me. PEACE OUT......
@@rickjohnson3580 I grew up on Zeppelin and I have the utmost respect for the band and for Jimmy Page. I can't speak highly enough about this group. I can't tell you how happy and proud of myself I was when I finally learned the guitar solo to Stairway to Heaven On My Guitar. Now I've never been to a Zeppelin concert so there's that. But with regards to the live footage that I've seen Jimmy tends to hit a lot of square notes in his solos, notes that don't really fit Within the key of the song. And as far as playing the song differently than the record I kind of think that if you are going to play something different, it should be at least as good as the studio recording or better and in my humble opinion Jimmy's live improvised guitar solos, for the most part do not compare with his Studio work. And when you say that they had Talent on-loan from God, with Jimmy Page's reputation one may feel compelled to ask, which God do you speak of. And with regard to the best band on Earth , is very subjective as 10 people who is the best band you are likely to get 10 different answers. But when it comes to facts The Beatles are the best band on Earth according to all the statistics having to do with popular bands The Beatles win hands down. They may not be your favorite band but they were the band that sold the most records, most prolific songwriters, most number one hits and the list goes on. Anyways I agree with you for the most part Zeppelin is just the s***. And I ask myself now being 63 and a huge music fan, why I never went to see them.. maybe I never had the opportunity or the means, I don't recall. Peace
Donald, The Beatles the best band? The band that played ho hum 30 minute note for note gigs then didn't bother to tour at all after 1966? That band? Just because they are the most popular and most famous band ever doesnt make them the best. Zeppelin would have eaten them for breakfast on stage mate. No comparison.
Sabbath were one trick ponies that got boring very quickly. Their heaviness came via distorted guitar. Zeppelin had a far more powerful bottom end (drums and bass).
Zeppelin is like that car that looks like it's going 200mph with out it moving? Powerful and loud with the volume knob turned only up to 3! Sound very Girthy!! Withness them in 75 & 77. Nothing like it and nothing like the crap they make today. 💣💥✌
Still holds up after 50 years. And still far superior to today’s crap.
