- Today, we’re diving into the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8, a monitor I believe surpasses the Neo G8 in picture quality and value. Priced at $1,500 but currently available for $900, this review covers the unboxing, physical setup, and display specs without revealing too much.
In the unboxing, we explore the unique design elements and accessories that come with the monitor, followed by an easy setup process. The physical specs showcase a sleek build, ergonomic features, unconventional port options, and surprising speaker quality. As for the display, expect an immersive experience with a 34-inch, 3440x1440p Quantum dot OLED panel, while I touch on its gaming capabilities, picture quality, and productivity potential. Keep watching for my final thoughts and score. Subscribe for more tech videos!

Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Unboxing and Review! | G85SB Series QD-OLED Ultra WQHD Curved Gaming Monitor - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
I love the versatility of this monitor. I just got it today and right out of the box, it's amazing. I have very low end Red Dragon speakers, so the sound on this monitor is a refreshing change from what I've been using.
Great to hear!
How do u feel 4 monhts later does it worth it ? I dont care about True Blacks, i care about motion is it Ok compared to a Good Alienware IPS monitor ? Some say that Oled have Flicker and motion problems , Rtings also . Have u Tried PUBG ???
I love your video shooting style. Please, stick to it. Way fresher than almost any other video I’ve seen about this monitor, and still, all info needed is presented. Thumbs up
Great video! I just wondering what type of micro hdmi cable u use with the ps5? I’m going to connect the screen with an Xbox series x and want the best connection option!
can you sideload apps onto the "tv" side of this monitor?
Did you notice any issues with fringing on high contrast text and a lot aliasing/stair-stepping?
I thought I had found the ideal monitor for me but was disappointed when looking at it in a tech store today. I don’t know if the demo video and settings were just doing it an injustice though. Thanks
Do you get full screen with the ps5 games ?
Hii. Does it have an adobe rgb color space? thankss
I want to get this, but i was told to buy a displayport 2.1 for the best quality possible, but you say the port is displayport 1.4. Is that going to affect it too negatively or will it be ok if i use a displayport 2.1 instead of the 1.4 that comes with it?
Did you test the PS5 on it? What was the resolution ?
What’s is the cable for the PC ?
Great review! Thanks alot
Why on 9:24 where you showing anime those black bars look reddish? isn't on OLED they suppost to be black?
Can you connect an xbox series x to it?
If i play ps4 games on this monitor will i have the black bars ? Also same if i play ps5 games?
Can I connect my Astro A50x?
And they finally released the FW update on their website which fixes the wake up issue people face. I’m super stoked this monitor finally can be considered good.
That's great to hear!
do you have to go to their website and download it or can I do it through the monitor itself?
On this monitor is it possible to play the SuperGame...
❤RemnanT_2❤ in full screen...21:9🙄??
I’m assuming this would be better to buy it from Best Buy and get the geek squad warranty as it covers burn in in their warranty?
Do not attach the base that way. You can Crack the screen
How do I hook a ps5 up to it
One of the upsides is that its also a smart monitor with a remote and apps which gives it something beyond the normal ultrawide or monitor in general.
Could you do a best settings for ps5
I love the monitor and would buy it immediately, if it wasn’t for mostly office work in my case. OLED still suffers from burn in, there is no solution for that yet. 😢 but I still love it
On this monitor is it possible to play the SuperGame...
❤RemnanT_2❤ in full screen...21:9🙄??
The only thing that was stopping me was the mini hdmi but now that I know it comes with it. Im sold
It doesn’t?
@@YusufAlsakkaonly mini dpi coming in the box 👍🏻
Just DP cable comes with it, no HDMI
Yes just mini dp - dp coming within
I got a Mini display to hdmi for my PS5 but can’t get the monitor to see it! It’s an Anker cable too! How did you connect your ps5?
@brainbgood that won't work
Hdmi display port leads only work one way. You need to use HDMI to HDMI. It's called none bi directional meaning ypu can plug into say a pc via display port and hdmi to the screen you can't go hdmi from ps5 to display port monitor.
Again not bi directional so only works one way. So you need to use HDMI mini to HDMI standard. Plug standard end into your ps5 and ini hdmi into the monitor.
Why did you use display port begin with
Confused? Hdmi/display port leads only work in one direction
I need a longer cable after relocating my tower. What is the best cable to get the max 175hz?
Relocate it back where it was
Can you connect a wireless head set like AirPods or the Xbox wireless headset directly to the monitor?
yes yo8 can
got one in a sale today for 750 pounds , cant wait to use it with my new rig
how do you play at 120 fps? when I connect the micro hd cable to the ps5 or xbox series
I can't play above 1080p at 120fps, if I try to increase the resolution to the maximum it reaches a maximum of 60hz.
(the micro hd cable I use should support 2k up to 240hz.
I read several comments under the video like mine to which you didn't give an answer, better not to advertise if you don't know what you're talking about.
So I haven't bought this monitor yet but I'm thinking about it ! Online it say this monitor can fun 4K at 120Hz is that not the case ? I have seen a fair few cable online that can support that too, unsure wether I should buy this monitor as I'm trying to get 120Hz
To support 1440p at 120 fps you need HDMI 2.1 to reach above 120Hz. This is a cable that comes with Xbox Series X or otherwise labeled as "Ultra High Speed".
So, yes your micro HDMI cable can support 2k up to 240hz, but can it support 120 fps? Let's say you have all the right cables and it all matches up.
Here is the issue: Xbox Series X cannot handle Ultrawide Monitors. At best Xbox Series X can handle a 16:9 ratio. At 21:9 (Ultra Wide Monitor), it will still work, but you will have black bars on the side. In order to use 120Hz you have to also explicitly set that refresh rate in the display settings, otherwise it will use 60Hz by default. (Display settings of the monitor).
Hope this helps you !
Been using it for a couple months paired with the 4090 and it's been great. All modern games support 21:9 so that's not a problem but some games don't support 21:9 cutscenes which is annoying.
On this monitor is it possible to play the SuperGame...
❤RemnanT_2❤ in full screen...21:9🙄??
I am considering buy that monitor also coming from a good ips panel Alienware, I am ok with low brightness and bad reflection and Burn in and fringing . All i want is smooth motion and no Flicker and there are some videos Rtings that say that there is Flicker and also on forums on All oled they say motion is bad if the FPS are not locked . What do u think ? do u play with locked fps ?
@@Tripokaridos22 Yeah, I play with locked FPS if it's more than 200. I have never noticed any flicker.
I have this but i cant find a micro hdmi for my ps5 which one do you have
Compra cable Micro hdmi a hdmi
So in terms of connections, I need a desktop PC with video card with a Display port in order to connect this monitor? No HDMI, no usb-C connection?
it has hdmi
Do you recommend this monitor? I want g9 but its too big for my desktop but im afraid that this g8 is 2022 model 1 gen of oled
This one actually beat out the g9 in top monitors list
How do you Connect your ps5 to The Samsung odessy oled g8?
I hate when ppl don’t answer certain questions. I’ve been wondering if it looks to stretched out and it seems like every question about console gaming wasn’t answered
9:30 Most if not all movies do come in 21:9 aspect ratio. This is not however the case for TV shows. 21:9 IS the standard aspect ratio for movies.
How are you able to get it at $900 ? I can only get it at $1000
I love my Neo g8 🥰
I recently got this monitor and connected to ps5 and my reds look pink ? Any possible help
How is it so far?
anyone has the same problem with this monitor that you need to do annoying updates like every 3-4 days to improve graphic performance?
What cable do you guys use to get the most from your ps5 on this screen
The one that comes with the PS5 is an hdmi 2.1
@@TJY2K You can't since this screen has mini HDMI, you gotta buy one and it has to be 2.1
@@rcjuancarlosuwu oh you're right. I didn't see that
Micro hdmi to hdmi 2.1
Removing the wrap should be the last step, unless you are into salty fingers spots.
You're right lmao
should i buy this monitor now or wait new 2024 monitor just announced at CES day ago ?
now this.monitor is really cheap for a amazing price sure there is better monitors but unless you have a PC to 5k is not really worth getting for the money and in my opinion this monitor is the best color/gamning monitor on the market
Would you recommend this for programming?
I'm a dev, and it's a bad idea to use an OLED for anything static for long hours.
So does it include hdmi cable with the monitor? Or do we need to buy one separately for our ps5
You need to buy a mini hdmi to hdmi
Do you use HDR? Im on a 4080 with this monitor. Still not happy with hdr quality
Why not?
@@_ATHENODOROS_ some weird issues. With lighting.
One of the best videos in the monitor! Do you know if there is a way to “crop” in when playing console games? Was able to get it for $750 with my gov discount. Super excited!
Gov discount? Where?
got it with student discount 711$
you call that a discount?? soft
Intro song is wack but decent review of a phenomenal monitor. Also, I wouldn’t recommend using this monitor as a daily driver for home/office productivity. As in doing so, u are more likely to experience potential burn in the the oled panel. Bad idea.
aren't they about to release the new version of this?
The G9, not the G8
@@Kona5.0 No actually a new G8, G9 and a completely new model G6 are all coming later this year. None of them are 34 inches though. The new G8 and G6 will have flat panels, while the G9 will be curved and UW.
G9 is way too big tbh@@jeremias1235ify
Do you worry about the burn in problems? Or other quality issues of this monitor. Not sure if i should buy this one for $678 or the lg 34GN850-B for $529.
There is no burn in on that monitor ever. You can go for it
This is always gonna be a potential issue with OLEDs. But it should be fine for a couple of years
Not even seen one sample yet bud for that one
@@AlirAlbayrak Take a look at Rtings OLED burn-in test 10 month update they should the G8 and a few other monitors. Burn-in is especially noticeable at 5% gray.
All OLEDs do experience burn-in with time and more likely if you play a lot of static content on it.
@@AlirAlbayrak If you take a look at Rtings video 10 month burn in update they show the Odyssey G8 and a few other monitors suffering from burn in. Especially at 5% gray.
There's not a single OLED display out there that has completely solved burn in it's an inherit flaw to the technology.
Maybe the best monitor outhere, the only thing concerning me is the burn-in issues, it's easy to get burn ins ?
Nope. It has cooling solution you dont need to be afraid bud.
Would you recommend this monitor for a PS5? And if so does it fully fit the screen of the more common console games?
The PS5 does not support ultrawide at all
@@LightsAcapellaPS5 supports 1440p. Therefore, yes it does support ultrawide.
@@BrianCrinkhad this monitor for a few months now and i don't really recommend it for ps5 as the images just stretches out to fit your screen or you can go 16:9 with black bars on the side but its amazing for pc
@@monchihalz I currently have an older model so I'm used to the stretched look I guess so I'm fine with that but I'm struggling to find anyone who uses this for PS5 that can confirm if you can get 120Hz with it or not through the micro HDMi cable
@@kaiszymonik9837 that depends on the game like most new games have 120fps but older games are just 60
I just got this with 20% off. Imo worth.
Some games not taking up the entire screen is absolutely insane to me. I would never 16by9 till every game I play supports and does not distort game
That's true. A lot of console games don't support ultrawide. But, in the end if you do find a great game it should look amazing on this monitor!
The Sims 2 supports ultra wide lol. I'm playing it now on this monitor. Why can the Sims 2 support ultra wide, but console games won't?
Consoles don’t support ultrawide.
What games don’t support 21;9 lmao ? Haven’t had a single game that djdnt support 21:9 unless you playing on a console lol
@@internalcombustion8744Dragon Ball Kakarot doesn't
I got this for over 6 months now, video showed up and clicked out of curiosity.
I can't recomend this monitor enough.
Just make sure to consider the following:
Burn in takes a lot longer than normally, however it will happen sooner or later.
If you don't have enough money to a point where you will replace it in 2-3 years anyway (with something similar or better) do not buy this, you CANNOT go back, everything will look bad.
The speakers are not enough for music, you can watch a youtube video or something like that but for anything else, just no, if you are thinking of relying on these speakers, don't do it-
Do you worry about the burn in problems? Or other quality issues of this monitor. Not sure if i should buy this one for $678 or the lg 34GN850-B for $529.
Really depends on what you want from a monitor, I see they are both gaming monitors, this once since it's OLEd the pixel response time is insane, you will see that fast motion is much more clear, for the exta 100$ I'd 100% go for the OLED, however just like a car will eventually break, OLED will eventually have burn in problems, this depending how you use it can take some years until you notice it. @@Bobgill31
@@Bobgill31 Don't mind the burn in, use it wisely and have fun enjoy the oled screen
it can do 120 fps on the ps5?
No

Samsung g3 24 inch better vs asus vg27VQ???
Hi! Sure, for gaming, the ASUS VG27VQ might offer a more immersive experience with its larger 27-inch screen, potentially higher refresh rates, and adaptive sync technology. The Samsung G3's smaller size could potentially provide slightly faster response times, but it might sacrifice some immersion. Consider whether you prioritize screen size and visual quality or prioritize faster response times when choosing between the two for gaming.
What monitor would you recommend for work (excel, gmail, multiple windows etc) and casual gaming with PS5?
I know it’s prob better to have dedicated work monitor but have been trying to find a monitor with hdmi 2.1. Potentially buy a gaming PC in the future. Thxs!
Why would you take screen protector off before you've assembled it 🤦♂
my thinking aswell
PS5 doesnt support 21:9 aspect ratio so the image will be horribly stretched and not look proper, either that or you have black bars on each side and thus the center image will be burned in.
