I just got mine yesterday. The fabrication date is July 2023 and it is flawless. I have a 240 Hz monitor and this one at 175 is comparable in terms of smoothness. No need to wait for the 240 Hz coming next year when you can get this one for $999 or less.

If you need length just buy a longer hdmi 2.1 cable. But definitely avoid extenders or adapters. Thank you for a very detailed review! I remember I bought my first ultrawide thanks to one of your reviews, it was the Samsung sj55w, still rocking on my desk. However, this G8 is not for me, I don't like the mini ports, I want to use the cables I currently have on my setup, the less I have to remove, the better. And I don't find any sense in the smart features, I think they just add unnecessary weight to the monitor, IMO monitors should stay dumb, just display the image I'm sending to you. I do very little gaming. I do mostly Microsoft apps like Excel and content creation like TH-cams with graphics and video. Is this a good choice for me, or would you recommend something else. I hear you have to use Clear Type to avoid character distortion.

I just got the samsung odyssey g85sb on sale for $899 and it was manufactured in August 2023. It has work flawlessly. And I have not experienced any of the issues people were reporting when the panel first came out so I don't know about a refresh but perhaps they worked out the bugs. Anywho I couldn't be more happier with my purchase.

How is text colour fringing on your unit? Some people do say g8 oled does have the worst qd-oled text colour fringing from all qd-oled monitors (aw3423dw, ms meg34 etc). The video is on the new variant you should be able to start getting them through retail as its been a while now thus march or later. I had it early as I work with certain manufacturers. They are not going to make a big advertisement about it but for now it is 240 will not be in this model.

But if you use the built-in burn in prevention software, and don't leave it stagnant for days on end you should be ok. Got this monitor recently and finally found a good micro hdmi to hdmi for console. However, with this monitor being 2.1 hdmi and the series x having a 2.1 , I should be getting the 1440 with 120htz. I am not able to run 1440p with 120hertz though, it automatically sets to either 4k 60htz or 1080 120htz. Any advice? 😅

Plug your DP port into to graphic card and monitor. Turn everything on. Now grab the remote and change the input to the dp port for pc. In the picture, settings set it to the graphic and turn on game mode. Sometimes when you are coming from a different monitor the settings of your PC are possibly set to an unsupported method for your new monitor. And it's possible not set to communicate with each other. If needed use your old monitor to be able to see and fix your PC's settings. Your 4070 should have an hdmi port out that you can connect with that way to your Samsung monitor if you need. You can use your PC general display settings to get your setup started before logging in to your Nvidia software and setting up your display that way. Definitely use the DisplayPort cable that Samsung provided with the monitor. It's hard to go through everything this way but regardless just keep messing with it as it will definitely work. Bought this yesterday on sale at Best Buy along with micro-hdmi to hdmi cable. It won’t recognize my Alienware RTX 3080 desktop! Was thinking if I needed to specifically get an hdmi 2.1 cable and mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to make this work ? Very frustrating!!! I can connect my MacBook Pro to this thing , the PC troubleshooting is a huge headache as I want to use this for PC gaming mostly!

I used the DisplayPort cable that came in the box and now have PC connection. But how come it will not establish a connection when using an HDMI to HDMI 2.1 cable connected to a mini-DisplayPort adapter ? Would ultimately like to use that set up.
@mksoct1st09 unfortunately any kind of cable the co vererts to a different format is typically garbage and cannot handle high quality data. Best I've ever got is a 30hz signal anything else just doesn't work. That is likely the issue. If you drop down to 1080p 30hz it should work.
Unfortunately, less than 6 months after purchasing it, the areas within the 16:9 dimensions have become more faded compared to other areas. It is not noticeable unless the color is carefully examined, especially in the physical or blue color, after playing content that does not support ultrawide for a short period, such as TH-cam or some games. Or use it as a TV, noting that I set the brightness to 20%. I did a factory reset and updated the pixels but to no avail. I think it is some kind of burn-in. I returned it to Amazon under warranty and I do not know if the error was corrected or not.
Sorry to hear that. Fortunately we have had no issues here. Keep in mind that you can keep the screen filled out in the 16.9 aspect ratio. TH-cam streaming services, ect, can be changed to full screen. In a few cases the settings must be adjusted on the monitor itself to enjoy full screen. As well as your outsourcing PC game console ect.

However since the monitor is 3440x1440 it will take the max amount of pixels it can process in the size format you select on the ultra wide screen and down convert the remaining. Two reasons you see this is one the fact it needs certain coding to allow 4k movie player to function correctly. And the second so you constantly see the best looking resolution at all times for the monitor your using. On your pc make sure you have it set to max output available. Then in monitor go-to settings and turn on game mode turn on all and adjust your game mode settings and you should be good to go. Of course, you want a really good graphics card that is also capable of pushing the specs wanted. @@JbTechFanaticThank you, it seems that the problem was only that I had to increase the sensitivity of the mouse a little to fit the dimensions of the wide screen, and now after more than two weeks of use I got used to it and enjoyed it well, but I am currently facing a funny problem as I have a Samsung TV in the same room and when I turn on or off one of them both respond to the remote and I have to disconnect the cables every time, if you have a solution please advise❤❤

I love Alienware products however as long as you get this 2023 variant it no longer has the issue the 2022 model had. It just Samsung seems to have quietly changed it without a big release celebration. So if you get it make sure it is manufactured March 2023 or later V2 you are golden. Or the new g9 is available from pre-order. But the Alienware is also a great product

@probilliards101 they didnt do a official announcement as they had already had production parts but the delay on units created a gap of time finding the issues solving ect. Easiest way is to check manufacturing date on the units or a small v2 printed around that area. March 2023 or later you are good.. but the most obvious thing you will see is your screen will not have any problems with its onscreen text😉

@Kapono5150 I just bought this monitor and set it up yesterday. I must say, its amazing! I already had the G7 1440p 240hz and I don't notice the difference in frames. It's rare I get 240hz in any game max settings anyway. Imo 175hz is just fine. You wouldn't miss those 65hz because this monitor is beautiful. The HDR works great too! It's much better than my G7.
if you don't have 200+ FPS all the time, the 240hz is a waste, since you're at 1440p if you don't ahave a 4090 go for the G8, I bought it at 996 and honestly, it's amazing, just keep in mind that in 2-3 years you will need to replace it due to burn in. but if the 175hz is your problem, don't bother, the return of feel is not worth it compared to what you gain from having an OLED vs LCD. since the pixel response time is much better your gameplay will look smother and less blurry on the 175hz oled tha on a 240hz LCD.
It is not that I don’t like console because I really do. The challenge for me is that my PC with a 4080 smokes my Series X in graphics and FPS. If they made an XBOX version with a 4080 and 4090 as an option, then I’d have no reason for a gaming PC. A console with better built in streaming for TH-cam or Twitch and a 4080 would mean I don’t need a gaming PC. I could just get a decent non gaming PC for Anything not gaming at that point. Doubt this Will ever happen.

It's always a possibility. Every year we can hope that next year will be better. If you let it we would be waiting forever. As each generation we can say the next will be better. But Samsung usually sticks with 1440 on these. But only time will tell. Unfortunately, this is V2 the new g9 got the 240, and that is where all the rumors came from. I have then both been testing side by side and honestly besides the obvious differences I still love the G8 even with 175. Pc 4090 xbox and ps5 are all a joy of both can't go wrong. We might see 240 next year but due to cost, I'm not too sure even then. They likely will go full 4k though 🤔 Of anything changes I will let everyone know asap
I really hate the fact that i cant disable smart features on a gaming monitor, I shouldnt have to use a remote to turn my monitor on and off and have apps built into something like this, i would have bought a tv if i wanted all that stuff
I like the connected experience a lot. think of it as a bonus TV with your monitor. Also the ability to easily get new software without having to use a thumb drive able to use your voice to power on with your smart home with many many many more features. To get the basic experience you desire You can always disable the smart hub and set input to power on with last input. Then simply leave the monitor in standby mode to turn on with PC as normal. Now your Problem is solved and you can enjoy like normal. Then if you ever want added features you can turn the hub back on and use it ect.

I just got mine yesterday. The fabrication date is July 2023 and it is flawless. I have a 240 Hz monitor and this one at 175 is comparable in terms of smoothness. No need to wait for the 240 Hz coming next year when you can get this one for $999 or less.

I remember I bought my first ultrawide thanks to one of your reviews, it was the Samsung sj55w, still rocking on my desk.
However, this G8 is not for me, I don't like the mini ports, I want to use the cables I currently have on my setup, the less I have to remove, the better.
And I don't find any sense in the smart features, I think they just add unnecessary weight to the monitor, IMO monitors should stay dumb, just display the image I'm sending to you.

I just got the samsung odyssey g85sb on sale for $899 and it was manufactured in August 2023. It has work flawlessly. And I have not experienced any of the issues people were reporting when the panel first came out so I don't know about a refresh but perhaps they worked out the bugs. The video is on the new variant you should be able to start getting them through retail as its been a while now thus march or later. I had it early as I work with certain manufacturers. They are not going to make a big advertisement about it but for now it is 240 will not be in this model.

Got this monitor recently and finally found a good micro hdmi to hdmi for console. However, with this monitor being 2.1 hdmi and the series x having a 2.1 , I should be getting the 1440 with 120htz. I am not able to run 1440p with 120hertz though, it automatically sets to either 4k 60htz or 1080 120htz. Any advice? 😅

Are you using the display port for your pc? Because I cant connect my pc via display port. I have a rtx 4070 and it doesnt work via de display port.

Plug your DP port into to graphic card and monitor. Turn everything on. Now grab the remote and change the input to the dp port for pc. In the picture, settings set it to the graphic and turn on game mode. Sometimes when you are coming from a different monitor the settings of your PC are possibly set to an unsupported method for your new monitor. And it's possible not set to communicate with each other. If needed use your old monitor to be able to see and fix your PC's settings. Your 4070 should have an hdmi port out that you can connect with that way to your Samsung monitor if you need. You can use your PC general display settings to get your setup started before logging in to your Nvidia software and setting up your display that way. Definitely use the DisplayPort cable that Samsung provided with the monitor. It's hard to go through everything this way but regardless just keep messing with it as it will definitely work. Bought this yesterday on sale at Best Buy along with micro-hdmi to hdmi cable. It won’t recognize my Alienware RTX 3080 desktop! Was thinking if I needed to specifically get an hdmi 2.1 cable and mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to make this work ? Very frustrating!!! I used the DisplayPort cable that came in the box and now have PC connection. But how come it will not establish a connection when using an HDMI to HDMI 2.1 cable connected to a mini-DisplayPort adapter ? Would ultimately like to use that set up.
@mksoct1st09 unfortunately any kind of cable the co vererts to a different format is typically garbage and cannot handle high quality data. Best I've ever got is a 30hz signal anything else just doesn't work. That is likely the issue. If you drop down to 1080p 30hz it should work.
Unfortunately, less than 6 months after purchasing it, the areas within the 16:9 dimensions have become more faded compared to other areas. It is not noticeable unless the color is carefully examined, especially in the physical or blue color, after playing content that does not support ultrawide for a short period, such as TH-cam or some games. Or use it as a TV, noting that I set the brightness to 20%. I did a factory reset and updated the pixels but to no avail. I think it is some kind of burn-in. I returned it to Amazon under warranty and I do not know if the error was corrected or not.
Sorry to hear that. Fortunately we have had no issues here. Keep in mind that you can keep the screen filled out in the 16.9 aspect ratio. TH-cam streaming services, ect, can be changed to full screen. In a few cases the settings must be adjusted on the monitor itself to enjoy full screen. As well as your outsourcing PC game console ect.

Does it support 4k 60fps resolution? If yes how come this is possible for a 3440x1440 monitor?
Thank you for watching and subscribing I'm thankful for your support 💯 This is a tricky situation that has been going on for years Here the two part answer Yes the output will allow you to select 4k at 60 thus we believe it's 4k. However since the monitor is 3440x1440 it will take the max amount of pixels it can process in the size format you select on the ultra wide screen and down convert the remaining. Two reasons you see this is one the fact it needs certain coding to allow 4k movie player to function correctly. And the second so you constantly see the best looking resolution at all times for the monitor your using. The device must have allm active so it can communicate with the monitor. Check you console or graphics card settings

Thank you for watching and subscribing I'm thankful for your support 💯 Make sure the monitor is Connected with hdmi2.1. Cable Do all the software updates available to your monitor. On your pc make sure you have it set to max output available. Then in monitor go-to settings and turn on game mode turn on all and adjust your game mode settings and you should be good to go. Of course, you want a really good graphics card that is also capable of pushing the specs wanted. @@JbTechFanaticThank you, it seems that the problem was only that I had to increase the sensitivity of the mouse a little to fit the dimensions of the wide screen, and now after more than two weeks of use I got used to it and enjoyed it well, but I am currently facing a funny problem as I have a Samsung TV in the same room and when I turn on or off one of them both respond to the remote and I have to disconnect the cables every time, if you have a solution please advise❤❤

Try it G8 oled in Xbox serie x, the difference Is the G8 have micro hdmi and the Xbox serie x have HDMI and the Xbox doesn't support ultrawide monitor , so find a good adapter like 144 Hz micro hdmi to hdmi 2.1 do all you can do for work Xbox serie x in G8 oled and in neo g8 , and after that say who is the best monitor for Xbox serie x that work 😊

I love Alienware products however as long as you get this 2023 variant it no longer has the issue the 2022 model had. It just Samsung seems to have quietly changed it without a big release celebration. So if you get it make sure it is manufactured March 2023 or later V2 you are golden. Or the new g9 is available from pre-order. But the Alienware is also a great product

@probilliards101 they didnt do a official announcement as they had already had production parts but the delay on units created a gap of time finding the issues solving ect. Easiest way is to check manufacturing date on the units or a small v2 printed around that area. March 2023 or later you are good.. but the most obvious thing you will see is your screen will not have any problems with its onscreen text😉

@Kapono5150 I just bought this monitor and set it up yesterday. I must say, its amazing! I already had the G7 1440p 240hz and I don't notice the difference in frames. It's rare I get 240hz in any game max settings anyway. Imo 175hz is just fine. You wouldn't miss those 65hz because this monitor is beautiful. The HDR works great too! It's much better than my G7.
if you don't have 200+ FPS all the time, the 240hz is a waste, since you're at 1440p if you don't ahave a 4090 go for the G8, I bought it at 996 and honestly, it's amazing, just keep in mind that in 2-3 years you will need to replace it due to burn in. but if the 175hz is your problem, don't bother, the return of feel is not worth it compared to what you gain from having an OLED vs LCD. since the pixel response time is much better your gameplay will look smother and less blurry on the 175hz oled tha on a 240hz LCD.
It is not that I don’t like console because I really do. The challenge for me is that my PC with a 4080 smokes my Series X in graphics and FPS. If they made an XBOX version with a 4080 and 4090 as an option, then I’d have no reason for a gaming PC.
A console with better built in streaming for TH-cam or Twitch and a 4080 would mean I don’t need a gaming PC. I could just get a decent non gaming PC for Anything not gaming at that point. Doubt this Will ever happen.

It's always a possibility. Every year we can hope that next year will be better. If you let it we would be waiting forever. As each generation we can say the next will be better. But Samsung usually sticks with 1440 on these. But only time will tell. Unfortunately, this is V2 the new g9 got the 240, and that is where all the rumors came from. I have then both been testing side by side and honestly besides the obvious differences I still love the G8 even with 175. Pc 4090 xbox and ps5 are all a joy of both can't go wrong. We might see 240 next year but due to cost, I'm not too sure even then. They likely will go full 4k though 🤔 Of anything changes I will let everyone know asap

I really hate the fact that i cant disable smart features on a gaming monitor, I shouldnt have to use a remote to turn my monitor on and off and have apps built into something like this, i would have bought a tv if i wanted all that stuff
I like the connected experience a lot. think of it as a bonus TV with your monitor. Also the ability to easily get new software without having to use a thumb drive able to use your voice to power on with your smart home with many many many more features. To get the basic experience you desire You can always disable the smart hub and set input to power on with last input. Then simply leave the monitor in standby mode to turn on with PC as normal. Now your Problem is solved and you can enjoy like normal. Then if you ever want added features you can turn the hub back on and use it ect.
