Sorry about the stuffiness in my voice in this one but I've been battling with the flu this weekend. This was a great point to leave things because it feels like we might be able to transition to a different future. I'm sure there will be more setbacks along the way. @@jojoc197 I was bummed too. I had notes and was ready to go for episode 9 but putting thoughts together and talking were both challenging haha. I'm working on True Detective today so it makes more sense to focus on the Fargo finale when that comes out in a few days.
@@PetePeppers1 Oh man, feel better! I've been driving my wife crazy with the `Time to check the Pete Peppahs!` recap watch, thanks for confirmation there won't be one! :) rest up.
You're right! Her first love: space exploration. That's what she and Aleida talked about. But a bonus is that she was finally able to escape Irina's clutches! Sergei outed Irina to Margo, and warned her about the danger of returning to Star City (Russia). Irina was tasked with getting Goldilocks captured, and once that was done, Margo would serve no further use. They'd have killed Margo. Or worse...a prisoner in a cold dank gulag in Siberia. Well, at least Margo has upgraded her prison environment! I could see a slight smile on her face as she was handcuffed and taken away. At least she's home. On the other front, having failed her mission, I think Irina is dead meat now. 😊
Progress isn't free. What a great line. I really liked Margo's last scene with Aleida. It should be interesting to see how all the scandals played out between seasons. What Margo said in final monologue was very original Star Trek in what it said about people
@@Teefs69 von Braun said it to Margo when she questioned him about the factory workers during WW2 in germany. "Progress isn't free, there is always a cost".
Hands down the best episode so far. My predictions were off and I’m glad Ed got Goldilocks into mars orbit. I was a bit surprised by the fact nobody died in the finale. Glad to see they kept their promise with Lee. In the end Ed didn’t want that battle. All he wanted was to keep the Mars program alive with some help from Houston. Excited to see what the writers have in store for the next few seasons.
Thanks Pete for trucking through these with us! For some inexplicable reason, there is no good content on FAM anywhere else on TH-cam, so you’ve really carved out an excellent place for us to gather and nerd out. Such a great show, but although I agree with just about everything you said (especially progress isn’t free and Lee’s reunion), I couldn’t help but feel a little let down by this finale. I think it’s because I’d rather see on-screen deaths or writeouts than have them happen between seasons, or have everyone be old and kind of out of the game in S5. Nothing came out of Kelly’s search for life (yet), the gun turned out not to be that important (yes Dani getting shot stopped the riots but she was quickly completely fine again), and I guess there are more questions left than usual. But damn I love this show and hope we get much more! Thanks again Pete, really appreciate your efforts!
I really hope they all pay for what they've done. No amount of money is worth the lives of people who are just trying to provide for their families. They're pretty much a bunch of terrorists and pirates now.
That "Free Mars" sign on one of the buildings on Goldilocks suggests that Mars (or at least a portion of the Martian population) is trying to be a more independent colony. That is definitely Dev and Ed's motivation for stealing Goldilocks. Ed and Dev want to stay on Mars and I think Kelly and Alex will stay too. Maybe Kelly will finally discover traces of life on Mars and will stay to continue her research and Alex seems to be 'healthier' on Mars. After what Lee did to that one North Korean officer, he and his wife will probably stay on Mars too and when Ed said to Lee that "This [Mars] is my home" Lee replied "Mine too". Also, Lee's wife came to Mars with a bunch of people. Maybe Mars (or at least Dev's Helios) starts accepting refugees to increase its population and its work force.
Well Dev's ultimate goal is to make Mars a self-sufficient colony. Goldilocks basically guarantees that and together with Helios funding and support would make the M8 agreement somewhat obsolete. It is a chance to start again for many people after seeing a whole season where politics trumps the ground needs and wants.
There’s a big easter egg in final moments of the episode. As the camera pans and closes into the Kuznetsov station, one of the nearby small structures in the lower right of the screen has graffiti on it that says “FREE MARS.” This could be a hint to a season 5 plot line.
@@Teefs69 Its presentation of space navigation, colonization and combat is a pretty good match for FAM. It's also a good match for the blend of scifi and drama/politics that FAM does.
what bugs me is why only a Russian station after all the stuff they pulled from beginning to end. Only a RUSSIAN station? That was so annoying to see. I don't get it.
Well, not ashamed to admit it. After all that’s happened in the finale, even as a man I was sobbing for several minutes after Aleida hugged Margo possibly for the final time. But at least space program lives on from that final act!
Probably not. If Dev was right about everyone being a billionaire after all this, I'm pretty sure she won't have much of a sentence. She'll likely end up on Mars where she would be considered as a hero. History is written by winners, and winners don't paint themselves as villains.
Margo from a certain POV lucked out. It's better to be in a US Federal Prison than getting a "double tap" behind the ear, or hoisted onto a meat hook at Lubyanka.
So glad Lee got to have his wife with him. Lee has made every choice with her in mind. Margo made the right choice. She is a complicated character. Loved the season ending.
plus every moment that Lee did was all for his one simple wish: To have his wife with him. Plus the look on his face that he didnt expect that along with his wife, he didnt realize that there are also his countrymen who have the same desire as him: the desire of freedom and a better life. And yes, Margo made the right choice and this episode fullfilled the very moment where she surpasses Dr. Werner. She chose to defy order instead of following, sacrifcing herself for the sake of progress for all mankind into the new era hence "Progress isn't free"
And Margo made a rational decision - prison in the US was better than anything she would have faced in the Soviet Union. She eagerly took the blame to help Aleida get out of a jam and stay in the US.
The makeup team deserves an Emmy. This was one of the most well done aging up of character this season I've ever seen - film or TV. Also, the actors all NAILED the older acting. That is NOT easy to do, and each and every one of them pulled it off - true to their characters - masterfully. Bravo, all around!
I think the reason Ilya came back was due to him finding out the KGB was on base and secretly one of them. His bruiser companions seemed really pissed at Timur when they found out what he was doing to Miles and Gerardo and I imagine the Middle Eastern cargo handler woman alerted him that the entire operation would be threatened. I'm really hoping to see him return to work with Miles to start a new Martian Transportation Company and just call it Milosh and Ilya or Ilya and Milosh in Season 5.
id also like to think that despite Ilya and Miles have their differences, which is petty and purely out of business, at the end of the day they are still friends. Plus I personally think that the moment Miles rallied the workers is also the moment that Ilya respects him as in with pride. Miles is a determined fellow and held out on his own to the best as he could, from a lowly rookie to a respectable worker is something to behold.
The first thing that went through my mind when Danielle got shot was, oh, if she simply returned to Earth having never been shot, most people would assume she was incompetent managing the Mars base. But the image of her getting shot while trying to stop the conspirators would have made her into a hero.
Stealing the asteroid was really what was best for all mankind. If the asteroid went to Earth's it not only would have had killed the space program but it most likely also would have ended up being a geopolitical tool and probably caused conflicts. Great season finale.
The investment over decades would benefit humanity for longer. If you didn’t catch it, the advancements in battery technology put a lot of people out of work. The longer ROI timeframe gives people a longer time to transition.
@@anthonyenriquez6309greedy people like dev would have seized power over the asteroid if it went into earths orbit. One path led to the space program continuing was the only difference between the two scenarios.
@anthonyenriquez6309 It still will, it will just take longer to see that return on investment. And in either scenario the greedy people win, it's just whether those people are on Earth or on Mars. Each side was doing what was in their own best interests, so I don't think there's a clear cut good guy or bad guy here.
I think Ilya and friends came to rescue Miles and Gerard(sp?) after finding out there's a raid coming, and knew this was more important than their past differences. That's not a very nuanced take, but it makes sense.
I think it had more to do with Mars becoming more militaristic and restrictive, which reminded him of life back home. Even though Miles stole his business, he didn't want to see him hurt the same way he's been hurt
Yeah that was rly surprising he jumped to help miles ❤ it shows that whatever ppl go through is stringer than their initial differences it rly makes u think how much of a society mars has
People migrating to mars is crazy! The beginnings of mars being it’s own planet free of earth! Man I want them to go beyond mars now I can’t wait for more of this show!
@@lillol3245Unfortunately just cause they plan doesn't always mean they'll get the green light. I'm sure they will be fine, but plenty of shows have planned for multi seasons then gotten axed, popular ones and not so much popular ones at that.
@@shanent5793 I think it was unchecked global warming. But in For All Mankind global warming has been slowed significantly so that's a detail that makes the shows not mesh so perfectly
Yea not sure if Dev is someone to be trusted, but he’s definitely a good and interesting character. Very much an accurate portrayal of a tech billionaire.
Yeah, Margo’s character was phenomenal! Both Dev and Margo are the most complex characters of the show. They’re able to project an exterior while at the same time conveying a different internal dialogue to the viewer. Great acting! This series deserves more attention and acclaim.
I'm loving this show, they have managed to maintain the quality in all aspects in my view. I would love to see what else comes in the future PS. Good job on all these summaries!
The emotional rollercoaster that was this episode.. This just might be the greatest episode of any television series I’ve ever watched. Jesus I cannot wait for the next season. 😩
As much as I love Ed and Dani, this episode (and season) really belonged to Margo and Aleida. They were PHENOMENAL this season! Their relationship seemed to mirror the Goldilocks/Mars trajectory, with Margo seemingly impossibly distant from Aleida, but the gravity of their relationship drew them back together. It felt like it might remain a distant relationship despite some brief proximity, but emotionally they couldn’t break free of each other in the end. If that makes any sense. I’ve moved on to The Looming Tower now, which I somehow missed when it first appeared some six or seven years ago. I needed more Margo, and Wrenn Schmidt is one of the stars. It’s quite good, if not as impressive as For All Mankind.
One thing, I stopped the show and i could read the newspaper that talked about the torture that Miles went through. Interesting article, while incomplete, it does sound like heads will roll. Also, the sign about the road to Happy Valley no longer has the other countries of the M7 listed. Just the US and USSR flags.
I was already so disappointed that Will of all people was working for those monsters but I'm glad they included consequences for Miles torture As I watched it I thought "they approved an American agent working with the f____g KGB to torture a US citizen so...what ..they could do some extra mining????"
What I really liked about this season is that compared to other seasons it had relatively little romantic/sexual drama compared to previous seasons. Like I don't mind some of it being present, but the previous seasons WAY overdid it in my opinion, wherever they could they had to jam in a relationship with absolutely no buildup or chemistry. This season feels the most Expanse like, and that's a compliment. It places the focus squarely where it should be, space and its associated politics.
So much for an heist, Dev just created his own nation/space empire at this point. Also, you mentioned in one of the earlier video: Martial law, On Mars. It's basically a Tuesday xD
As a man I got so emotionally invested in Margo’s character, she made me cry a few times. I feel so bad for her not getting to be with Sergi, rest his fictional soul. Wrenn is an amazing actress and this is an awesome show!! All amazing actors and great writing and story telling.
The hallway shot hit me for a bit. One side is the strike team and the other side is the team that was on strike. They're still divided but this is bringing them together. It also speaks to humanity. We can't get out of our way. We carry the worst of us wherever we go. I think this is a moment where we start to get out of our way and go forward. My only disappointment in this was that the time jump was not greater. I was hopeful we might jump ahead to 2020 to see greater advances. Perhaps the first half of Season 5 is 2012 but we jump up to 2020 in the second half. Risky and they'd have to get the stories right for it but it could open up so many options and get us to deep space faster in terms of the show.
I highly doubt they’d take it to 2020 in S5. The longest time jump they’ve head in a season is 5 years back in S1 (1969-1974). The 2020s would be reserved for S6.
Most seasons do a double time skip. Season 1 jumped from Apollo 14 to Jamestown, season 2 fast forwarded a while but didn't really do a full second skip, season 3 jumps over the whole preparation for the Mars launch. This season only did a few months. 2012 would put the timeline around where Aleida said they'd start to get a return on Goldilocks at Mars, but they'll need a few more years to start seeing the benefit, and I expect that'll be passed in another double jump.
@@Hevach S2 is similar to S4. It happened in a span of a few months. It started in with the Solar Flare in May 1983 up to the nuclear reactor meltdown in September 1983. Actually that would mean that S4 had a slightly longer timeline from May-September 2003.
yea Margo made the right choice, she would've been killed in Russia or before. But her arc is complete, I don't know what they can do with Margo in Season 5 which hasn't been announced yet. Ed isn't going to a retirement home so maybe he will go out in a bang like the old school he is. Also Alex is around 18 now, so maybe he will be more important now. Dani should be teaching in NASA or maybe even run NASA. My opinion is that Margo will have cancer or something that will kill her soon while in prison, while Ed is dying as well from the condition he already has, and they do a shot on shot view of both handling their end of life afflictions. I do believe both will die next season. The show writers must add an X factor next season to continue the story. Alex must be the key. He's the legacy of the story. Ed will die on Mars, while Margo die in prison. There should be a grave site scene of both, with Aleida there for Margo's, and Dani's for Ed's. Like they said, progress isn't free.
I think with the ending of Daniel returning to earth and seeing her grandchild was symbolic of the last time we’ll see the old timers maybe and it’s time for the new young generation to take over space exploration
Ed has a 5 year arc, he at least will be back. Seeing the Collider interview with the producers and the actors of Ed, Danni and Margo, I suspect Danni is back to. I also would not count out Margo.
The struggle between Sam and Palmer still mattered because if Palmer was able to disengage the override then the crew on Ranger 2 could had shutoff the engines. Also in the bottom right of the shot of Kuz station, one of the modules has “Free Mars” written on top of it. Might be interesting to cover if you do a full season recap, as to where the series is going if/when season 5 is confirmed.
GD, I love this show! I will be really upset with Apple if a renewal doesn't come soon so they can start on season 5 to get it out by the end of this year, or early 2025 !!!
15:53 The struggle still mattered, if the manual switch was closed again, ranger could just shutdown the engine from their control room like they originally intended. Margo's patch in the code allowed for the sabotage to succeed but only if the emergency hatch was kept open by Sam
I said this on another video but I’ll say it again. I just finished the episode and my god, It was pure fire! Best ending for any of the 4 seasons and the song M83 was the cherry on top, There are just not meany TV shows that get better with time and more season like this one did and if they are truly trying to get 8 seasons done I can’t wait!
literally the trajectory of the course of human history. something we can all feel in joints of our bones. same thing that made the expanse such a great story. plus its being well told
In the ending shot inside the Goldilocks, on the lower right there is "Free Mars" written on the roof. I assume Mars will try to be independent to some degree?
Great ending, what shocked me was when Margo confronts Irina about Sergi's death and Eli is watching this and she confronts him as well in her stare and her eyes back to him and with his eyes he gives away his guilt- immediately Margo knew that Eli must have been informed about what Irina was planning Sergi death. Whether he goes into full details from Irina or Irina disclosed this at the last minute and did not stop it because after all his career and also him being head of NASA and bringing Goldilocks to Earth would have cemented him later in life after he exited NASA, probably commercial space exploration. Great episode but this piece I was not expecting this, and maybe I was the only one who saw it, but I knew they did that shout purposely when they put the camera on him when Margo went ballistic against Irina but then the move the camera to him.
I was wondering if you had read Kim Stanley Robinson that's such a great set of books. I'm all for getting Ed to the end of series. I'm really starting to get "The Expanse" vibes even more so than usual, so will be interesting if Mars declares they want independence next season. The interior of Happy Valley even reminds me of Martian Ship interiors. Hope you feel better.
Midnight City was the best musical choice to illustrate transition to 2010s, I can think of only one song that we used to know, that could capture the sound of that decade.
If you ever get a chance to ask the writers questions you should ask if why they didn't go with Mars mining instead of asteroid capture. Also have they ever considered Mars's moons, I feel like most sci fi stories ignore that fact. I liked this season more then season 3 but they still make a lot of choices for the sake of drama that don't actually work and that really hurts my interest in wanting to rewatch the show. As for the next season I can see terraforming being the big goal for the season. With the shot of Dev looking over the ice field besides thinking about Mars's water supply I can see him wanting to release the methane locked in there to jumpstart a ozone layer to help build a atmosphere. Then there's the Nation of Mars that would be used to most likely help almost everyone, Massey did to much to be safe, who was involved with stealing Goldilocks.
Pete can you do a video detailing how you think Mars having that wealth in orbit is going to effect the future for possible independence. How it will set up future exploration of the asteroid belts
My one issue with this episode is that I would’ve preferred if they explained how things concluded for the characters on the base before jumping 10 years into the future. What happened to Sam after she fought Palmer outside the ship? What happened to Miles and his wife on Earth who helped him smuggle goods between Mars and Earth? What happened to all the crew who in some way broke the law? The news anchor says that they’ll be punished but we never saw that. I doubt that all these characters will be brought back in Season 5 considering it’s a 10 year jump.
18:50 "Hallway shot" (of rebels). The way they all suddenly and synchronously switched from wild anger to calm, I'm afraid, reminded of The Simpsons' flaming torch-bearing crowds sketch. Real people can't be switched that easily and don't react in unison.
First time on the channel! Thank you for such a thoughout breakdown. Some of the questions I had in my FAM notebook were answered, and now has me thinking if season 5 will have a whole new cast.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but this series feels like a prequel the Expance. Ive never watched the Expance i have no idea what its about, but i also don't read other people comments so definitely an Expance prequel and im the first to mention this.
I feel like, despite the betrayal, Ilia thinks of Miles like a son. That man's got some backstory, lemme tell you, and they do a fantastic job of implying it without having to tell it. Maybe he has an estranged son/family, which is why he's working a somewhat thankless job on Mars at such a ripe old age.
I loved it. Every season end is like a swansong to each monumental step for mankinds foray into space. I would've have never forgiven them if they killed off Dani. Too many of the main characters died tragically. Esp after what they did to Sergei and what we found out about Danny. Loved the nice touch at the end with Kuznetsov Station. Small nod to Molly. Hope to see another season with Ed. He really needs a 1st to leave his mark on history.
Ed is already considered a legend in the FMA universe. Even if he's not first, a lot of people seem to consider him their hero, including the astronaut who reported him to Dani. Like for fuck sakes, he literally had Clint Eastwood star as him in a movie. I'm sure something off screen these characters have done for sure is write books and sign off on so many deals for their likeness to be used in media as side money next to their already enormous salaries. He's likely a much bigger hero to many than Neil Armstrong is by this point.
1. margo can still be a triple agent. 2. is the cia guy the same guy whos friend/buddy was injured in the explosion.? 2.5 and he was at the bed side of him? 3. Forgot to mention first scene was a guy finding the gun. 4. writers mention they have 2 minutes of deleted scenes for every 1 minute of show... 5. free mars, directors/writers 1 minute say its a prequel of THE EXPANSE but nextt they take it back fam discord mods dont know how discord works. bad mods.
I was surprised when Lees’ gun came back and was finally fired after a near decade in the ground. Luckily Dani survived and got to go home to make her grandchild, while Mars is on the thriving path that will take it into the Expanse universe
The assumption that the world would get resources worth $20 trillion because of a base from Mars and therefore decide to stop funding it properly seemed the weirdest thing in this series. That and how long it took for Dev to try offering to py the Helios workers properly in order to get them to stop striking.
Midnight City by M83 is one of my favorite songs of all time and space, so to suddenly hear it in one of my favorite shows gives me all the happiness 😊😊
@@kevinchou-ri8tu oh they are definitely going with this. Not sure if its exactly Expanse they're drawing inspiration from, BUT in a recent interview, they've said they want humans to expand beyond Mars. Mars was only the beginning. They just have to hopefully get the chance to tell more of that story in future seasons
Earth. Mission control reads the telemetry and says the authenticated burn was carried out, but there was a restart command in those orders that prevented the engine shutdown. Margo admits she added that command, knowing by the time anyone could fix it the time lag would mean Goldilocks would be irrevocably in Mars orbit. But the heist on Mars gets disrupted and never gets to pull the trigger.
I'm accustomed to Ed marching to his own drum, thinking he's "God's gift to Universe", but Danielle getting tunnel vision to the point she casually tells a CIA guy to get Miles to talk, and then acting shocked, shocked that CIA guy would rough up a prisoner, is honestly disappointing. Like, how did you think they're getting ppl to talk? Same goes for creating a goon squad to put everyone in line, and not seeing how ultimately they won't be answering to you. I guess this is what happens, when even a character known for doing what's best for everyone, and being the one trying to solve a situations, not letting her own ego get in in a way, gets too wound up in a mission, and the exercise of authority.
It was totally inconsistent with her character..this is a supposed Trekkie who believes in the Gene Roddenberry vision for humanitys future....who said "f___k it" to NASA orders on Apollo-Soyuz and did the diplomatic mission anyway coz she believes in that future ....suddenly acting like a Bush or Obama or Trump national security goon from our timeline with a "do whatever it takes" (hint hint!) attitude to interrogation??? The only way of explaining it is this: they hint via the news article that in this timeline the Church committee stuff about the evil levels of abuse the CIA engage in never happened so the public thinks they are just gathering intel and occasionally stopping imminent threats that cant be dealt with via civilised means all Jason Bourne or Jack Bauer....and don't know as we do it's an agency culture that attracts sick fucks, paranoids and megalomaniacs who do a lot of unjustifiable evil. Also of course post 9/11 revelations and the NSA abuses Snowmen leakes didn't happen yet or at all in this timeline so even astronauts may be more naive...still she's meant to be smart...but book smart people often are not street smart
One of the weakest parts of an otherwise great season finale was that they sent only one person (Palmer) to stop Massey. If they had sent two people, goldilocks would have been on tract to Earth.
Yeah, Margo’s character was phenomenal! Both Dev and Margo are the most complex characters of the show. They’re able to project an exterior while at the same time conveying a different internal dialogue to the viewer. Great acting! This series deserves more attention and acclaim.
Great stuff!!!! we were talking about the Station on the asteroid and the significance of the name which you covered, and I wanted to know the name of the song at the end. I can't wait to see what happens to all the principal characters and who the new principals will be next season.
I love For All Mankind not just because it's a great or because I'm a space nerd. I love it for its portrayal of how differently things could've gone with one, relatively minor change to history. This show encapsulates perfectly just how much of a driving force investing in space is and how people who aren't involved in it gloss over its long-term progress in favor of short-term satisfaction.
I think the quick scene with Ilya where one of the folks he was eating with "resisted" and the baton came out reminded him of the bad days in the Soviet Union (or the more recent days, like the incident Margo got swept up in) and he decided he didn't want to go down that path again if he could help it.
Great review and a great show. I was blown away by seasons 1 and 2. I was expecting the show would tail off and at some points it did, overall I love this show. Pete, have you ever seen counterpart? It has jk Simmons and and it only had 2 seasons but I have a feeling that you would like that type of show. Cant wait for lumin industries!
@@shanent5793 but even then there could still be some kind of reverse of Earth's climate or whatever. There's not reason that a catastrophic event couldn't happen.
The asteroid had to go to mars or else the show was over … buts its weird that Baldwin etc are framed as heroes. He’s a menace and dev would let everyone he knows rot for a buck. Plus theres the mars sized elephant in the room. The planet cannot support life .. and the folks on earth sure coulda used that asteroid.
The workers on mars may want to create a better society but at the end of the day, dev controls the air. Dev controls the food. Dev controls life itself. I didnt see anything from him this season that suggested growth. Just 3 eps ago he conned all of his workers then called them short sighted greedy losers to ed because they wanted to (checks notes) feed their families.😊
First off: Russia did Margo a favor of epic proportions in turning her over to the FBI, you wan to be imprisoned in the US as apposed to a Soviet Gulag after being tortured. This made me laugh while I watched it, like Margo just won the lottery. Also, unless Mars is completely self sufficient, and able to defend itself military, isn't every single person involved in the plot to steal Goldilocks, and every single person involved in the violent insurrection, going to earth prison? I mean, isn't Ed, Dev, and everyone else criminals that the US would bring to justice for what they did with Goldilocks? How can they just let them all stay on Mars, even if that's what they want to do. I think this might have been the end of the series, which makes me sad as I really enjoy it.
Nah the Russians can still easily kill Margo in a American prison so it's not really a big win. The people who were in the brawl wouldn't go to prison that can be dealt with using base discipline or fines to their pay. The ones who were involved stealing Goldilocks would be sent to prison though, but I can see the writers coming up with Dev creating the nation of Mars to protect them so they would be stuck on Mars.
I JUST watched the final episode and was thinking the same thing. If Ed wants to live on Mars with his friends…let them. They aren’t growing nearly enough food to feed everyone. As each replacement part wears out, they need replacements from earth. This can never be a home. Just a temporary trip.
After an excellent season, they sadly played the finale way too safe. Tension mounted a few times in the episode, but each time it failed to delivery a closing punch. The way they forced on us the back and forward control of the Ranger was not very believable for the show standards: some on my most beloved characters were moved by the events, rather than drive them. And at the end everyone is safe and cool. I enjoyed much more some of the previous episodes. Still a great ride, one of my favorite show, but “There is always a cost” they told us. They get away with Mars pretty cheaply Thank you Pete for your great reviews throughout the entire season !
I hope Irina gets blamed by the KGB. Killing Sergei and not keeping control of Margo. Plus waiving Margo's diplomatic immunity which allowed the US to arrest her. When they brought up Lee's wife there were several other people it looked like that were brought up with her, who were they?
it was a bit of a headscratcher, in the hype of the moment it's fine but upon when you start thinking about it a lot of stuff made little sense, for instance the whole checkov's gun ended up being cheap shock value, it would have had a lot more weight if Dany had use it to unalive himself rather than just run out of o2, then the "Gorilla-Grip" Massey vs Palmer fight, i get he had a gripe with her but straight up going for the kill? and the commander cheering him on? the whole tone of that was odd, also Danielle may have been naive to the CIA interrogation methods but everyone is well aware of the KGB methods, and then there's the whole series of stuff that they ran out of time to wrap up like what happened to the hijackers, mutineers, the North Korean commander, it feels like they wasted too much time in other parts like setting up Miles or Aleida/Kelly joining Helios, or ghostcomms and then they had to rush to the ending
Great review of an outstanding season 4... Season have haven't been announced but the creators signed on for 7 season.. Looking forward to seasons 5-7..

100 percent
I agree that was her primary motivation but think there was a little bit of justice for Sergei in the mix
@@PetePeppers1 definitely that was there too. She had a lot of good reasons to do what she did.
True, sergei dying was only a sign to her to realise the ussr doesnt give a fk no matter what and she might be going there no matter her choices
Progress isn't free. What a great line. I really liked Margo's last scene with Aleida. It should be interesting to see how all the scandals played out between seasons. What Margo said in final monologue was very original Star Trek in what it said about people
I can’t imagine how unbelievably pissed off Dani is.. The CIA and KGB basically performed a military coup that resulted in her being shot..

Seeing Miles go from a hopeful guy who's just excited about going to a different planet to a man with literal blood on his hands was very engaging.

Yep ❤ basically expansion haha
Pretty sure this is a backdoor prequel for the Expanse. This is the origin story for the MCR.

Alex Baldwin, leader of the Red faction
There’s a big easter egg in final moments of the episode. As the camera pans and closes into the Kuznetsov station, one of the nearby small structures in the lower right of the screen has graffiti on it that says “FREE MARS.” This could be a hint to a season 5 plot line.

what bugs me is why only a Russian station after all the stuff they pulled from beginning to end.
Thank god I’m not alone! I had the same reaction. Once Dani got shot the waterworks started coming and didn’t stop until the credits finally rolled.
Yeah this was great i was to relieved danny made it out alive
Margo from a certain POV lucked out. It's better to be in a US Federal Prison than getting a "double tap" behind the ear, or hoisted onto a meat hook at Lubyanka.
It’s fine to cry as a man bro. I think men should cry more - fellow man who cried as well
So glad Lee got to have his wife with him.
We all have opinions and I disagree… I found the aging makeup atrocious, especially Ed!
@@Colin-Fenix What's an example of a television show doing that you thought did it better (aging a 44 year old man up to 72)?
I think the reason Ilya came back was due to him finding out the KGB was on base and secretly one of them. His bruiser companions seemed really pissed at Timur when they found out what he was doing to Miles and Gerardo and I imagine the Middle Eastern cargo handler woman alerted him that the entire operation would be threatened. I'm really hoping to see him return to work with Miles to start a new Martian Transportation Company and just call it Milosh and Ilya or Ilya and Milosh in Season 5.
I think you're absolutely right! That's why Ilya came to the rescue! I totally missed that! Good call! 👍
I also think that despite everything Ilya does like Miles, before their disagreement was just bussiness.
id also like to think that despite Ilya and Miles have their differences, which is petty and purely out of business, at the end of the day they are still friends.
Or It could've raised 100's of millions out of poverty and lead to a global economic boom. I hate how this show had greedy people win, but oh well
The investment over decades would benefit humanity for longer.
I agree
I think Ilya and friends came to rescue Miles and Gerard(sp?) after finding out there's a raid coming, and knew this was more important than their past differences. That's not a very nuanced take, but it makes sense.
I think it had more to do with Mars becoming more militaristic and restrictive, which reminded him of life back home. Even though Miles stole his business, he didn't want to see him hurt the same way he's been hurt

I liked Margo's story arch the most this season. I also have always liked Dev, even if he's a questionable character.
Margo's reckoning was a very satisfying closure.
Yea not sure if Dev is someone to be trusted, but he’s definitely a good and interesting character. Very much an accurate portrayal of a tech billionaire.
Dev is a hint at him being a devil? It seems like hes the so called antagonist of the series, but its unclear whether he is or is not the actual Devil
I would love to see what else comes in the future
PS.
I was pretty happy that the Soviet Union's still standing in 2012
It looked like Eli was getting canned over the torture scandal.
I was already so disappointed that Will of all people was working for those monsters but I'm glad they included consequences for Miles torture
As I watched it I thought "they approved an American agent working with the f____g KGB to torture a US citizen so...what ..they could do some extra mining????"

The show is at its best when it is showing us the future we were supposed to have, and at its worst when it's distracted with soap opera BS.

Damn, this finale is possibly equal or near to Season 2 finale.
It was so good!
Yea, would be interesting. This season, the whole time was just 2003
I highly doubt they’d take it to 2020 in S5.
I would've love to been at a live viewing of this finale just to hear the audience applaud when Irina got her reckoning.
I can FINALLY enjoy a sci-fi series that doesn't include aliens!
Thanks for posting these recaps. It's hard to find any discussion about the show.
yea Margo made the right choice, she would've been killed in Russia or before.
Eds death will be badass, I see it coming
I think with the ending of Daniel returning to earth and seeing her grandchild was symbolic of the last time we’ll see the old timers maybe and it’s time for the new young generation to take over space exploration
Ed has a 5 year arc, he at least will be back. Seeing the Collider interview with the producers and the actors of Ed, Danni and Margo, I suspect Danni is back to. I also would not count out Margo.

Ilya and his guys showing up was glorious
This is totally a prequel to The Expanse. We're seeing the nascence of an independent Mars.
Pete, thank you for your content
This season has took the show down a deep and dark path, absolutely loved the first three seasons, but this was diabolical
My issue is WHY DO THEY KEEP PUTTING ALL THE IMPORTANT MANUAL OVERRIDES OUTSIDE AN LIKE...RIGHT NEXT TO THE THRUSTERS WTF
18:50 "Hallway shot" (of rebels). The way they all suddenly and synchronously switched from wild anger to calm, I'm afraid, reminded of The Simpsons' flaming torch-bearing crowds sketch. Real people can't be switched that easily and don't react in unison.
“Progress is never free” is the idea behind the entire series.

I was surprised when Lees’ gun came back and was finally fired after a near decade in the ground. Luckily Dani survived and got to go home to make her grandchild, while Mars is on the thriving path that will take it into the Expanse universe
Bro when that song started at the end of the last episode it was just crazy and then the base on the asteroid, o can’t wait for season 5!
The assumption that the world would get resources worth $20 trillion because of a base from Mars and therefore decide to stop funding it properly seemed the weirdest thing in this series. That and how long it took for Dev to try offering to py the Helios workers properly in order to get them to stop striking.

loved loved loved it. SO happy Dani survived. One question, was it the code from earth or Massey that worked.
The panel isn't vaporized by the engine, that's not even possible because the plume gets more rarefied as the distance from the engine increases
4 seasons 6 years and they still deliver so well you're itching for the next one(s).... I love this one
I cannot lie, I was worried when you didn't post within the first 24 hours.
It is not common knowledge how bad the CIA is.

And this my fiend, how we started to the think about the Mars Congressional Republic.
I think the quick scene with Ilya where one of the folks he was eating with "resisted" and the baton came out reminded him of the bad days in the Soviet Union (or the more recent days, like the incident Margo got swept up in) and he decided he didn't want to go down that path again if he could help it.
Great review as always. Next season, fight for Martian Independence.
The Tree of Liberty thirsts, and soon there will be two red planets.
This episode really is adding on to the fan theory on the Internet that For All Mankind is the prequel to The Expanse. Its got to be!
It's not, The Expanse's earth had severe climate change, which was averted in FAM
@@shanent5793 but even then there could still be some kind of reverse of Earth's climate or whatever. There's not reason that a catastrophic event couldn't happen.
i was waiting for this one, nice
Other people's theory that this could be a prequel to The Expanse universe makes me smile.
This show deserves so much recognition!
i love this show.... ssssoooo ggooddd wish more people knew about it.... thanks Pete for breaking this down.... great job as always!! cheers
Mr Peppers Thank you very much!
What is the song at the end of this episode. I know the song but cannot remember the band/name
M83 - Midnight City
Thanks Pete for the wonderful coverage of this season!!
Yes it seemed like an ending with no consequences.
Yes it seemed like an ending with no consequences.
They get away with Mars pretty cheaply
Thank you Pete for your great reviews throughout the entire season !
Great wrap up ... Usually dead right and are again now! Question is, will Apple do another season?
the series creator’s plans called for 7 seasons, i think its successful enough that they’ll green light it again
nothing about the "free mars" on the asteroid in the 2012 scene?
That was an amazing finale… can’t wait for season 5
Hopefully!!! they left off in 2012....we need them to catch up to 2024's alternate.
Kelly’s discovery of life got postponed for yet another season!
