From a book reader (don’t worry, no spoilers…), it gets so much better. The show seasons 1 & 2 are covering just the first book, Wool, of the trilogy series. Book 2, Shift, which I hope the show covers faithfully and in full in season 3, is a prequel that does an astonishing job of connecting the before-times to the “present”, despite it covering hundreds of years. It connects back to a near-future of our real world, but also introduces fantastic new characters that carry through into the “present” and future of the series. It also fills in the fantastic backstory of Solo in Silo 17. As great as Tim Robbins and Rebecca Ferguson are as Bernard and Juliette, I’m excited to see who they cast (hoping for some heavyweight actors) for these new characters from Shift, especially Donald, Thurman, and Anna.
@ I imagine Donald / Troy being played by someone like John Cusack. Would be cool if they ended Season 2 of the show by having “Troy” being awakened from cryo sleep in Silo 1 for his first “shift” and things going to back from there on a cliffhanger.
@ yea but idk if they can dedicate a whole season just for book 2 tho can’t really keep some of the current actors on ice until that season finishes and bring em back like a year or two later. I hope they figure out a good way to tell the story
The show has already setup flashback storytelling technique with Jules’ childhood throughout both seasons, so maybe that’s why they did so, to establish a technique for telling Book 2 (Shift) story the same way in future seasons. But there are critical differences between that and Jules’ backstory….. For one, Jules’ backstory are depicted as her own flashbacks from the present, and they’re shown to inform the audience of her character’s motivations. The Shift story is unrelated to any of the characters we already known in the show except Solo whose backstory is told in detail in Shift. And if they were gonna tell his backstory through flashbacks, this season would have been a good time to do so as we are meeting and getting to know him. So the fact they haven’t done so at all so far makes me think either that they’ll just skip it entirely or else tell it all in like in the book in season 3. But also, importantly, the way Shift and book 3, Dust, are written, we as readers know the backstory of Shift (Silo 1, the before times, etc) while Jules and the other characters we know in Silo 18 do NOT know. Which is part of the tension building in book 3, since we know devastating things they do not that raise the stakes. Therefore, you cannot tell the main events of Shift in “flashback” since they’re not actually any characters’ flashbacks, as they don’t have the knowledge at all. That’s the point.
Camille does reveal her motivation when talking to Sims: she wants to see Bernard’s mistakes (with Sims) get to bite him and think this will bring Sims back in favor.
@ because Bernard is suspicious about her and she needs get back in favor too. The situation is far from critical for Bernard yet, so Camille needs to be careful
@@CryptographyFan still seems strange that she tells her husband not to act on the info and let it make Amundsen look bad but then she goes to warn him herself.
I hope they continue to diverge from the books… like keeping the core but changing the specifics. 1:1 adaptations are fine, but I feel like the final product is best when modified for the specific medium.
Agreed. It's analogous to blaming the minorities, the poor, those with dangerous/dirty jobs, the less educated, etc. It never actually solved anything, and always added another, more serious problem on top of the one they tried to cover up. Lies beget lies.
They can shut the Silo down. They have power to control the whole Silo. That's why they were crushed badly in every rebilion. The people who know to run the generator are real threat to the peace of silo and to those in power. In Silo 17 the people from low levels led the rebilion. So for those in power it makes sense to blame the people in low levels and control them.
According to Variety earlier this week, Apple has greenlit seasons 3 and 4, with season 4 envisioned to be the final season. Since there are two books left to cover, it stands to reason that season 3 will cover the second book and season 4 will finish with the final third book.
the 9 meals quote is supported by Bernard-types in our world bc that myth helps them hold onto power, if people think they need authorities to protect them from each other, even when authorities are clearly failing to keep anyone safe. disasterologists know that that's a myth, and that in real life, post-disaster anarchy among equals looks more like mutual aid than chaos. that doesn't threaten the people, but it threatens power structures. that's called "elite panic," and I highly, highly recommend looking it up to better understand this show, and to better understand climate disaster as it becomes more common in our world.
The Wheel of Time book readers complained too about a few deviations. I've read the book and I'm cool with the changes but entitlement always prevails. By the way could you do the Wheel of Time from Amazon?
Last episode they showed that Mechanical can shut off the electricity at any time. How are THEY not having the upper hand in any kind of negotiation? This episode they didn't even mention that they could shut off power. It seems there should be impossible to blackmail them in any way.
I think they have that power, it's just they didn't leverage it at this point because they want to avoid a war right now. Just exploring options, any way to negotiate without promoting a do or die response from up top. Secondly, we now know that IT wing of the silo isn't dependent on power from the mechanical, it's powered from "outside".
I've been of the opinion since it became obvious that Camile was an undercover player in the game. She is playing the long game. At this point, it isn't clear what her end goal may be. My money is on making Sims the head of IT. That's my guess.
I can understand Bernard telling Sims that he's the reason he had to kill the judge. But for him to say it in private with the dead body is a blatant lie. He never created the suit for the judge He never had plans on making the suit for the judge. When she demanded to go outside he knew he had to kill her. So it was not Sims that put him in that position and he knows it wasn't Sims. So for him to say it in private seems like poor writing. I don't buy that he's so mentally unstable that he's had to assign her death to somebody else, when it's clearly his own fault
in his mind all his decisions are for protecting the silo. He was lying about the suit but an impeached judge would bring chaos to the Silo as he believed, so he took advantage of the impeachment to kill the judge and blame Sims cause he was behind the impeachment.
What really puzzles me is why blame things on mechanical if they are the ones who literally keeps the lights on 🤔🤔 I mean why start war with the people who basically hold the keys to the silo cass if u kill the mechanics are they basically killing the entire silo 🤔🤔
Agreed. Up Top and Mechanical against the mids makes more sense. Food production isn't nearly as vulnerable as power production. If the Raiders fall under mids it would explain it since elites must have army on their side first.
Based on the plan with Patrick Kennedy and what Meadows said about how it aligns with the Order, they're trying to manipulate things to make the status quo seem like the only viable option. Because Mechanical has the ability to cut off the power, it's easy to turn everyone else against them. Because they have all the guns up top, it's easy to go down and eliminate those pesky residents who are making things hard for everyone else. A win reestablishes faith in the Silo leadership. They're not trying to avoid violence. They're trying to use it to their advantage.
I'm going to completely disagree with you but respect your decision to be wrong. I love the story of what is happening in the silo and the Social stuff around that I thought this was the strongest episode out of the whole season so far.
In the book, the author also messes around and keeps developing these characters that no one cares about until he finally turns his attention to Juliette and Solo. But it will be worth the wait.
book readers, with it ending with Season 4. will it be possible at this point in time to adapt all 3 books? Ive not read the books so im asking this question!
Yes I think so. If book 2 is being split into season 2 and 3 (maybe even some of book 3 overlap) they should have plenty of time. Season two is actually doing just like the book and focusing on the rising rebellion. The end of book 2 and start of 3 is honestly more like a prequel than anything. A LOT of the focus on how we got here and what the Silos will be doing going forward. I hope we see that same transition in season 3 and 4
They’ll likely start off season 3 with an episode dedicated to a condensed version of book 2 covering the conception behind the Silos, there construction and maybe some of the early days and setting up the characters. And then weed in book 2’s character development through the rest of the season, mixed in with whatever they didn’t cover from book 1 mixed with some book 3 stuff from what’s going on back in Silos 17 and 18. Making book 2’s integration into the show more like just another pov to follow rather than hijacking the show, turning it into a completely different series, which would give the current list of actors a year or two off, with the showrunners hoping that they don’t move on to other projects, just so they can bring them back part time (since book 2’s characters will still be active characters) for the final season which will be adapting book 3. I’d also expect them to use season 3 to further flesh out the other characters beyond what the books did, since the books were focused on Juliette, Solo and the two main characters from book 2.
the sheriff is head of security. amundsen is not. but even you fall for this deception. sheriff needs to arrest and detain bernard. who manufactures the guns, and who supplies "judicial" raiders with them?
For my money, this was a MUCH better episode than last weeks. Last weeks episode bummed me out so much I debated whether even to watch any more. But this last ep was great. I never read the books, I'm not interested in the season trailer spoilers, but I'm interested to see whether or not Juliette ends up fragging Solo to get control of the IT vault and her suit back
Folks from mechanical could have just shut down the generator untill Bernard stops starving them instead of this risky and complicated plan with moving the barricades..... They have all the bargaining power in literally holding the power in their hands... Why don't use it again?! Can anybody explain me that, please!
Two things, their leadership in lower levels is near absolute but not absolute. Some may decide it's better to relinquish knox and Shirley. It's currently a better option for them to try to negotiate and see their options without promoting a do or die response from up top, such action might unite the upper silo against them which currently seems uninvolved. Also, unknown to the mechanical now is that IT wing is powered from the 'outside' as solo said about silo 17 ; it's likely same in silo 18 as they are identical, we also saw Lukas explaining how there are two outside connections to the IT wing. My theory is that given Solo is able to survive in IT wing of a dead silo 17. The founders might have provided IT wing some independence or insulation from mechanical or even agriculture
Knox pointed this out when they were thinking about shutting off the first time. They could only surprise them with it once. Now, and especially with the murder charges, the people up top and the raiders will be quick to violence. They have the guns, and if they wanted to, they could force them to turn the power back on or simply eliminate them. The Order isn't trying to avoid violence. It actually advocates for it in certain situations to restore faith in the leaders. Think about the plan with Patrick Kennedy and what Judge Meadows said about it to Bernard.
@@ДарьяБутикова-ь6ь besides. shutting the power down would affect the entire silo. including the people living at the bottom levels. we have already seen they're not too fond of the rebels. so after such an action even their own community would likely turn against them
I was thinking the same thing! But I think it may be because the stories are slightly different and it's hard for me to keep them separated. Of course when I read Wool, I envisioned the actors' faces, except Walker was a man, not a woman.
The silos' actually starting to get a little annoying at this point, like petulant kids fighting, making obviously dumb decisions. Need much more focus on Jules.
I never read the books, and only as a show viewer, it seems he stepped over some people to get his way into the vault, he was never the shadow in the first place, everything he says about himself is untrue, if that's not telegraphing evil, i'm not sure we're watching the same narrative
@@universalcollective427 I've not read the books either and won't do until they finish the first book. As for Solo, I don't think they are portraying him as evil but as childlike. Therefore my theory is that the 2 people outside are the one's who were trying to break into the vault and who wrote the graffiti on the door saying they would get in sooner or later. Not the shadow of the Head of IT but his son, which would explain why He was told to stay in there and not to open the door for anyone else. I don't even think Solo poisoned them but that something happened to the air which would explain why they were by the vents.
@@universalcollective427 You see Jimmy (and his father) during the flashbacks of the downfall of Silo 17... during the fighting scene in the landing in front of the entrance to IT
Am I the only one who thinks that this episode could have easily been episode two or three at most? The others were just filler. Also, the show is continuing to break its own rules which is annoying. This episode was not as bad as the last couple in terms of ludicrous things going on and horrible acting But shows to break the rules of their own world is just a letdown. I also love how there was an entire plot point in the episode about needing to get their hands on proper pain and drug medication for Patrick Kennedy which led to an elaborate thing with the sheriff, the sheriffs wife and Juliet’s dad, only for Julia’s dad to arrive and ask him if he was ready to proceed, And if he could feel anything, and for Patrick to say that he didn’t care. If he didn’t care, what was the whole elaborate plot line about getting Juliet’s dad down to him in the first place. The show is really bad at this kind of shit. Also, solo Now blackmailing. Juliet seems to be nothing more than dragging this drama out to fill a season. Spoiler warning, in the book, Juliette’s only option is to get rid of the water that is filling the silo because she learns that this is the best way to get what she wants, But the show has inserted some elaborate crap about a suit just so solo can hide it from her and drag all of this shit out. I am getting very close to unsubscribing from the show. It’s gone from cool and need to imploding. And that’s before we even go to Bernard, who is the most suspicious man in the entire show, doesn’t trust anybody, sent Lucas to the mines for knowing too much, and seemingly on a whim has now inducted him to be his shadow at the drop of a hat. It’s just fucking dumb.
This episode was low point of the season for me, so far. While we did have character and plot development with most of the povs, it just didn’t hit emotionally or mentally for me. More like they were just trying to hit the mark points that the characters needed to be in by this point in the season arc, rather than the episode’s director and editor having mind making a great and/or gripping hour of tv. It’s kinda weird though, with the how fast people seem to be moving about the Silo now, when compared to how long they made out such a trek to take in season 1. I mean, realistically,it shouldn’t take but 6 hours max, if you were taking it easy to transverse the entire depth of the Silo from top to bottom, but the mayor and sheriff’s deputy took near 3 days to do so, managing to work up a decent sweat in the process, and now they seem to be doing this it what must be several hours with some breaks in between. It’s 144 levels deep. With no more than 50 feet between levels. But, considering the temperature gradient underground, and that people need to be able to work long shifts at the lowest levels, it can’t be over a mile deep at its lowest point. So, even if there are 500 steps between levels, we are talking about a walking distance of less than 14 miles between top and bottom. But it’s more likely closer to half of that.
Well this episode there's no deaths so that's why you didn't feel any emotion or mental highs. But this is a make or break episode because you are seeing how a rebellion starts that will lead to the destruction of the silo and everyone dead. Jules has to get back quick. Bernard is trying to stop the rebellion but in his attempts he's made it worse.
@@jonfreeman9682 Bernard is just a bureaucrat with too much blind faith in the Order and those giving him his orders. He wants what’s best for the little society that they have in his Silo. Believing that those behind the Order and the Pact foresaw and understand any and all problems that might arise and are currently developing, and that by closely following its contingency plan and their recommendation, he can save the Silo’s civilization, despite the fact that the steps that it calls for, or what they are telling him to do, are obviously leading to the exact opposite to a civil solution, threatening the entire population.
Finally got around to starting the books. afinished the first one. Would love a differneces video after the season, especiallybdepe ding on how this season ends. I feel like it is working towardsbthe end of book one, but there are enough differences that I wonder what might be a spoiler and what might be a permanent differeence. vague spoilers below... For example, as you mentioned the Judge never shows up in Book One like this. And Lucas become the shadow vary as does the ammount of what Vernard knows. It seems like Book Bermard has more information about the world especially the world of the Silos. I think the changes to Walker are fine, as is the change to Shirley. Her book husband almost felt like his purpose was what it was. I am still trying to be vague here in case someone ignored the warning. Speaking of Silos and spoilers, the differences here are almost as striking. Solo, in general, the extent of the flooding and the lacknof the Party of Five (Six). I guess since I came to the book from the show I am not as tied to book canon. But I also like Foundation, though I view it as a different universe from the book universe. I prefer the books in that case, but I like the show and am intrigued with some of the changes. And not having finished the books, maybe some of what has been in this season is later brought up in those, but it really feels like the first two seasons of the shownline up with the book. I suspect Season 2 may end with Juliet heading back. Sonce they are supposed to be dome by season 4, sounds like a lot to squeeze into 2 seasons, but need to get through the next two books to say.
I love Silo especially season one, season two is leaving me a bit cold - largely due to continuity. If the mechanicals can threaten to cut power to see the mayor, why can’t they do it again when food is threatened!?
Because they'll take the guns down there and eliminate them. Knox said they could do it once, as in they could suprise them with it that one time. Now, the raiders and the mob won't stand for it. It's a little confusing because we think any plan they have should prioritize limiting violence or making it a last resort, but from the bits and pieces we get, the Order seems fine using it to restore order and faith in the people running things.
It's a nuclear option - you can only fire that bullet once - but more importantly, it would affect everyone, including the population of Deep Downs, who are already very disgruntled, and might just lynch the rebels had they tried that
Someone decoded Salvador Quinn's message. it is as follows: SPOILER * If you’ve gotten this far you already know. The game is rigged. We think we’re the chosen ones but we’re only one of many The founders didn’t build a single silo They built fifty And they created the safeguard We have been lied to. There is endless shit, which can be totally eliminated, in Silo season 2. Juliette only had 30 second run time in episode 6. The show is deteriorating rapidly.
Clearly, the Founders did not write the Order from the start of the Silo’s. This was written based on experience in leading the Silo’s. It must have been a document that was continuously updated. I wonder when it was last updated.
I'm still made that he killed such a beautiful, full figured queen. Common should've said, "Nah son, we ain't kill'n no sistahs up in this here Silo. I survived a fight with Jon Wick. You damn sure ain't got it like that."
The season is all over the place. The writers have not presented the story in a coherent way, a mess. It seems like they give us filler episodes with few scenes to setup just a cliffhanger. Judge Meadows storyline was interesting but she was killed early. Season 1 was much much better.
Im not getting tired of saying how boring this show is. The writtters believe they can keep this show alive just by intrigue. Who knows who and who knows what and who is conspiring against me, da da da. The books series premise is way more interesting that this and just to keep the show "on budget" the apple fritters decide to go the boring way. Its pathetic. And yes I keep coming back to this show because there isn't anything interesting inn Apple since they killed Foundation. Everything in Apple library is utter garbage.
I am very disappointed about the episodes have been stalling since the ep.2. It was a good start in ep.1 that it felt like a "Alice in Wonderland" story. It was attractive only in ep.1. But since ep.2, all the stories are junks. A lot of guys doing gay stuffs, meaningless conversations and so on without any progress to the story. Alice should be exploring to other silos just like the story in Fallout; or Alice is being sexually abused by the hentai man Solo (which usually happens in the Japanese hentai animes in an environment like that)...etc. That's what we are expecting to see. The one who wrote the story after ep.1 should be fired. Watching this show is now really boring. A lot of scenes are unnecessary. We sincerely hope that the whole production team would be fired asap. What a crap they ruined the whole story.
@georgeclooney5316 have you read the books this is based on? I haven't so unsure if this is to be expect. If it is I would be posting a spoilers warning. If not then as a watcher whilst I agree I want to see much more of the world and how we got here in a properly fleshed out manor the evolution of the potential rebellion is interesting I feel as its highlighting how other rebellions have gone but we are in a unique situation with Juliette alive and potential could make it that history doesn't repeat. I expect a huge cliffhanger at this point at the end of the season rivalling season 1
Get stuffed. What you were "expecting to see" is predictable and boring, and precisely why I don't watch that. If you don't like it, you can just go and do something else.
When Knox and Shirley kissed, my wife was like "she's not gay???"
Me too
The kiss felt unearned. Hard to be femme when there's limited access to hairdressers and fake lashes in the silo.

Then why does she go in raider gear to warn about the ambush after telling her husband to let them fail?
@@enochrobinson1669To keep face with Bernard, while still -conveniently- being too late to actually make a difference.

I hope they continue to diverge from the books… like keeping the core but changing the specifics. 1:1 adaptations are fine, but I feel like the final product is best when modified for the specific medium.

what make sno sense is blaming only ppl that know how to service generator
Well that's in the code book. Mechanical always take the blame because they have the most power.
Seeing Bernard slip out of character and slip back in while visiting the former Judge was quite enjoyable. I felt I was right there with him.

Is The Legacy a computer?
the 9 meals quote is supported by Bernard-types in our world bc that myth helps them hold onto power, if people think they need authorities to protect them from each other, even when authorities are clearly failing to keep anyone safe. disasterologists know that that's a myth, and that in real life, post-disaster anarchy among equals looks more like mutual aid than chaos. that doesn't threaten the people, but it threatens power structures.
that's called "elite panic," and I highly, highly recommend looking it up to better understand this show, and to better understand climate disaster as it becomes more common in our world.
Solo went from my favorite book character to one of my least favorite show characters 😭😂
The Wheel of Time book readers complained too about a few deviations. I've read the book and I'm cool with the changes but entitlement always prevails. By the way could you do the Wheel of Time from Amazon?

I hope we get to see and learn more about the people on the elite levels. What are their lives like in comparison, and what % do they make up?
Last episode they showed that Mechanical can shut off the electricity at any time. How are THEY not having the upper hand in any kind of negotiation? This episode they didn't even mention that they could shut off power. It seems there should be impossible to blackmail them in any way.
I think they have that power, it's just they didn't leverage it at this point because they want to avoid a war right now. Just exploring options, any way to negotiate without promoting a do or die response from up top.
Secondly, we now know that IT wing of the silo isn't dependent on power from the mechanical, it's powered from "outside".
food supply
I've been of the opinion since it became obvious that Camile was an undercover player in the game. She is playing the long game. At this point, it isn't clear what her end goal may be. My money is on making Sims the head of IT. That's my guess.
Pete, would you consider doing a book vs show spoiler video? I’d love to know your takes on the differences.
He might honestly be in denial. Could be that he had another way of dealing with her wanting out than death…
in his mind all his decisions are for protecting the silo. He was lying about the suit but an impeached judge would bring chaos to the Silo as he believed, so he took advantage of the impeachment to kill the judge and blame Sims cause he was behind the impeachment.
Thank you! I never understood why the Sims' impeachment plan 'forced' Benard to kill the judge when he never was going to give her a suit.
Even if that's a lie, it's still convenient for him to have Sims believe that.

What really puzzles me is why blame things on mechanical if they are the ones who literally keeps the lights on 🤔🤔
I mean why start war with the people who basically hold the keys to the silo cass if u kill the mechanics are they basically killing the entire silo 🤔🤔

@@SmallAnimeTree I agree, the show is called Silo, we need to see other parts besides Juliette

book readers, with it ending with Season 4. will it be possible at this point in time to adapt all 3 books? Ive not read the books so im asking this question!
I thought book 2 was a prequel, so maybe they're just doing book 1 and 3
It’s possible, if they speed up the story pacing a bit)

For my money, this was a MUCH better episode than last weeks. Last weeks episode bummed me out so much I debated whether even to watch any more. But this last ep was great. I never read the books, I'm not interested in the season trailer spoilers, but I'm interested to see whether or not Juliette ends up fragging Solo to get control of the IT vault and her suit back
I thought we lived in the future, flush the whole serie in one go, the wait for the next episode is killing me ..
@prism2451 thanks for the insights!

This season is extremely poor they are just trying to stretch out the episodes as much as possible. Barely anything has actually happened this season.
I was thinking the same thing! But I think it may be because the stories are slightly different and it's hard for me to keep them separated. Of course when I read Wool, I envisioned the actors' faces, except Walker was a man, not a woman.
Never do that again. You can always enjoy a book after you see a show but rarely the other way around.

I agree, this season just seems to drag on a bit. I'm all for character development but the pacing has changed from the first season quite a bit.
The silos' actually starting to get a little annoying at this point, like petulant kids fighting, making obviously dumb decisions. Need much more focus on Jules.
Fire the set person in charge of lighting! The whole series is filmed in a cave!
I don't like how they are making Solo to be sorta evil.
I never read the books, and only as a show viewer, it seems he stepped over some people to get his way into the vault, he was never the shadow in the first place, everything he says about himself is untrue, if that's not telegraphing evil, i'm not sure we're watching the same narrative
@ I have read the books and Jimmy (Solo) was the 16year old son of Silo 17’s IT shadow. He was put in there by his father during the fighting.

Your parents must be proud.
At this point, a whole episode with just a few seconds inside Silo 17 feels almost useless honestly.... we need more Jules + Solo
Watch these videos at 1.15x speed. Love these videos but the speaking is too slow 🐌
