In case you don't have time to rewatch all of Season 3 before the new season gets here. Looking forward to seeing how things have changed and maybe the last hurrah of the original cast? Let me know what you think.
I would have agreed after the first season, that was great, but the soap opera drama of S2 killed it for me and a lot of other people who enjoyed S1 for its realistic alternative take on the space race. It feels like halfway through S2 they decided to take the show in a "different" direction, because apparently shooting Russians on the moon isn't dramatic enough. 🙄 S3 just continues that drama, which is not grounded character development, does nothing original, and had one good scene with the North Korean guy. Nope, I'm fully over it.
I love your recaps! I consider them an essential part of my viewing experience because you explain things that I never would have thought about on my own. No one in my life has even heard of For All Mankind, so it's nice to see the comments here.
I just discovered this series by chance. Peter Peppers is the only TH-camr I usually watch doing explainers. Perhaps it’s because it’s on Apple TV. Few people I know have a subscription.
would you be pro or against if this would turn into a light prequel to The Expanse? I for one would like to see how the world got to the point where expanse books start and this show is primed to do exactly that (if they choose to go that route)
I'm completely convinced in my own headcanon, that this show is the prequel to the expanse. Add in The Martian (Andy Weir novel) & AdAstra (brad Pitt movie) for a possible timeline.
I think FAM is aiming for a more hopeful future than The Expanse. The near future setting and natural progression into the Solar System create some overlap, but I think the creators are thinking more about a future that resembles Star Trek.
Weirdly enough, with everything that has happened with Mars in season 4 and its apparent march towards full independence, I'm almost convinced this show is a prequel to Babylon 5.
Agreed, how does someone selling a poxy little bar ending up raising enough capital to build a space hotel, which goes totally wrong, and she ends up as CEO of a huge company. She's not a likeable character
Remember she married the guy that bought the bar. They showed he was rich-rich when he was still married to her best friend 😂 that died in space next to her ex-husband 😅.
Okay the shit between Molly and Margo. I used to be sympathetic to both sides on selecting a commander but ultimately was on Mollys side. However after much further thought, I now realize I don’t agree with Margo at all, and her reasoning was really just a testament to her ignorance. When Molly learns about the committee for selecting astronauts she’s told that it’s not intended to replace her, however as soon as Margo fires her nobody is hired to replace Molly. And in regards to the committee, Margo stresses how it’s made up of some best scientific minds available. Proving she’s only capable of thinking in terms of the science of it all, just like in season one when she order Tracy to let Molly die, and she would’ve had Tracy and Gordo listened to Margo. Which I feel validates Molly and Ed’s argument for why someone calling the shots should only be someone who’s had their own ass on the line.
Also, Margo sent Aleida to the moon without any input from a committee; it was suit up, go fix the engine, like an engineer can't work remotely. So if Molly plays favorites with the pilots, so does Margo with the engineers. Besides, Margo's pick crashed Sojourner 1 beyond repair, so was she REALLY that responsible compared to Ed?
Great summation on Season 3! Your comment on 'Humans will go out into space, and take their problems with them" really sums up why i love this show, as well as others (like the Expanse). It's that adversity in working past or through those problems that really shows great storytelling, and why i don't bother with other scifi shows, which only show that those problems simply don't exist. You are right about the Danny and Jimmy storylines being the weakest. Danny acted more like a character form Melrose Place, than FAMK. And Jimmy was nothing but a stupid patsy, who i think really should get some karma coming his way. Some of the other 'NASA-Non' gang did escape, so it makes me wonder if we'll see some news clips (as we do in every season opener) on there capture and trial? Karen's death really hit hard, especially when you really she never got to see her grandchild. Bring on Season 4!
I just watched an one hour iceberg video about the space shuttle. I can't even imagine what utterly insane and obscure space facts would exist in the For All Mankind universe.
My biggest question is how the battle for queer rights will play out in the intervening decade since Ellen came out, and how the show will portray that in a meaningful way
Ed and Karen really messed up Danny. Karen NEVER should have slept with Danny. She was good friends with his parents and Danny's dad was Ed's best friend. Ed NEVER should had taken Danny to Mars. When Danny was pulled from flying from NASA, they had a good reason for doing it and Ed should had done the same thing. Plus, Danny was a new husband who was going to be a parent. Ed lost his son while he was on the Moon and Danny's wife was pregnant. Going to Mars was a dangerous mission and only the best should have been picked...and Danny wasn't the best. Plus, Ed saw first hand how Danny's dad couldn't handle the stress when things went bad on the moon...and the same thing happened to Danny which caused people to lose their lives. Leaving Danny in the North Korean ship was wrong because Ed played a role. in those people's deaths. Danny should have gone back up to the base station when he injured his hand...but Ed changed the company policy and allowed Danny to stay on Mars. Also, the medication should have be locked up....Ed ran too lack of an operation which allowed Danny to get hooked on the pain medication. Also, when Ed called Danny out for abusing the pain medication, he should have sent him up to the base station...but he allowed him to stay and to still have easy access to the medication. The Wilson story line is painful for me. Making her the first gay President in the Republican Party was a stretch...and then she wins wins re-election after lying about her marriage...really....
Molly remains my favourite character in this show - gutted she is gone. Ed's arc however is really satisfying. I wished I hadn't watched the Season 4 trailer before watching the last episode of Season 3 (I was late to FAM) so I sadly knew Ed would survive and it took some tension away (completely my fault). I also didn't like the brothers storylines - I just wanted Danny to walk out an airlock and the other thread just felt contrived - these were IMO the weakest elements of season 3
Looking forward to the season 4, but I hate, absolutely hate hate hate the Danny and Karen storyline and all the other soap opera moments. I came for the science and alternate history stuff, not the soap opera elements. If they had toned down the soap opera and given us more science fiction, they could still have had drama, just not soap opera. To be clear I absolutely hate the soap opera elements, but the Danny and Karen took it to the next level of hate.
I'm here for it, the CGI and "what if" aspect of it is great I will agree with people who complain that it's a character drama with sci-fi as a background - hoping next season is more sci-fi than drama
@@Akimbo711 Yeah unless the "what if" is the excuse to try and rewrite history, it pushed some many woke agendas at once that the pure "its fiction" angle is just silly at this point. Like the rings of power was the "What if" Galadriel was a warrior, or the "What if" we do the wheel of time, but ignore all the source material. I couldnt finish season 2 of this show, i mean season one was bad enough but it had some redeeming qualities on the production aspect at least, not so much the writing. So they wanted to make a "What if" alternate reality show but still include all the bad aspects of this reality, like racism, sexism, the gay/lesbian that are couple to hide themselves, and make every white man being bad or weak, and has to be exposed, saved or covered for by a strong female character, thats just the stuff i can recall from years ago, oh and i forgot the brilliant immigrant child that learned quantum mechanics and physics from random drawings her father was smuggling out of NASA because thats how science works i guess, enough to be instantly better than the people who spent their life doing this with no logic to it other than immigration good i guess. If you want a good what if show watch the man in the high castle, not this bs hiding behind being fiction to push woke nonsense into historical events.
So disappointed ur not reviewing Loki season 2- u give the best reviews and recaps, what a missed opportunity to grow ur channel! As for the topic at hand I can’t wait for the new season and this recap u did serve as great refresher to get us ready!
Holy shit bro.... I came here for a recap.....a summary.....not the whole god damn season.... I'm not saying the info you provided wasn't good, but damn, a 2 hour recap is not a recap.... Less is better
Yup, just because *Disney* doesn’t know how to *”put a chick in it”* successfully, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. The show has *well written men and women who lead.* *Ed Baldwin* leads many of the inaugural missions for 3 seasons, and he’s no Ken doll. *Barbie* is the highest grossing film of the year so there will be lots of tv shows and films trying to cash grab. I expect *poorly written versions of For All Mankind and Barbie in the next few years,* and they’ll bomb like The Marvels.
I think instead of saying “there are a lot of backwards people out there” in regards to people’s reactions to the astronaut coming out as gay (which is fine), you could have said everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Unreastic tech jump, but damn realistic behavior. Sending a manned probe on a suicide mission just to earn a medal on their coat is 100% something the DPRK would do

@@laughablelarry9243 why not both?
Fantastic !!! Thank you!
This show deserves so much more attention. I would hate for it to be canceled before it’s finished.
It is almost inevitable... The plan is a season for each decade, until they catch on with the launch of NCC-1701 Enterprise.
Agree. So underrated

Season 2 has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes, homie.
FAM is one of the best drama/sci fi series currently out there.

Every time a new season comes out I do a binge re-watch of all the previous seasons of this show.
Thanks for the recap, it must have been a while to make this video

The most ridiculous things about this show are Karen being interested in Danny and her going from owning a diner to owning a space hotel.
