It's nice to finally have an answer about what happened to Danny. Casey Johnson and Shantel VanSanten did a great job in their returns as did Joel Kinnaman and especially Krys Marshall in the big scene. Things are looking up for the second half of the season. Who is going to step up to fly the asteroid mission now? Some small details stood out on my second watch. Ed mentions the argon stockpile and Dev being on Mars could provide the payoff to the labor story. Think of Miles' reaction when he came up in the last episode. Let me know what you think.
There is a brief segment in the season trailer that shows Ed talking to Kelly which we have not seen in the first five episodes, so they will meet on Mars!
So glad you do this show. Will you be doing Monarch? A Murder At The End Of The World would also be an awesome one to see you recap. Thanks for helping us make sure we caught everything!
Dani telling Ed to go F himself 2x felt so earned. Some of his decisions since S1 have been contemptible. They both work so well as the connective glue of this series.
I thought they did a great job of escalating. A lot of the little comments Ed was throwing at her realistically added up. Some were just cruel in a way that only someone who knows you can be.
Ed made some really dumb decisions…especially sending his best friend back to moon…that never should have happened. He also should have never brought Danny to Mars after NASA grounded him AND his wife was pregnant.
in s3 it was the opposite, ed choose safety/his crew over being first on mars. while dani choose risk/death to be first. margo choose dani because she thought she was more level headed less likely to choose risk/death, molly choose ed because he was more risky but he chose safety
Well, I still like Ed too. Had this been any other show and we started S1 with 72 year old man trying to stay in his glory days, things may have been different. But we’ve been on a journey with this character for the past 34 years of his life. We’ve seen his wins and losses. We’ve seen him being supportive and we’ve seen him be a jerk. We’ve seen his bad decisions but also his good ones (hell, we saw both of these in the first two episodes of S1). You know this character beyond the actions you see him taking now. Also I find it very interesting that the writers decide to take this turn with a character who has been the lead from the beginning. He has always been flawed but the writers cranked it up this season and have really been highlighting them. It may be frustrating to watch sometimes but I’m so fascinated to delve into the psychological aspects of this character, knowing what we know about him.
This show does a remarkably good job of getting to certain places (or “plot points”, if you will) without feeling contrived. Between seasons, I wondered how they could possibly tie Aleida and Margo’s storylines together in a realistic way in season 4 because Aleida has zero to do with Russia and would never go there for any reason. But her being in the position to go there now, and the circumstances that brought it about, once again speaks to really good writing and this show’s ability to make all of the minor twists and turns make sense not only for the overall story, but with each character. Every scenario/interaction builds upon foundations that that were previously set and this show is at its absolute BEST when it’s written that way. That’s why all of the gut punches in this episode worked. Our anticipation for a Margo/Aleida reunion is because we understand what these characters mean to each other. That final confrontation between Dani and Ed doesn’t work and doesn’t make us feel what we felt without 3 previous seasons of relationship building. I’m just constantly impressed with how well this show builds upon itself, and sustains characters who feel complete and consistent with themselves, with each other, and in this world.
Predictions: - Aleida will encounter Margo in the USSR (obvious, many events point in this direction) - Dev will die this season on/at Mars either by accident or fatal illness that he's already aware of (thus the urgency to go to Mars)
I'm honestly SHOCKED that the whole asteroid McGuffin didn't get skuffed somehow an accidentally cause an extinction level event by hitting earth. You know, what with this universes track record an suffering some kind of insanely huge but utterly avoidable space disaster every ten years
Gosh dang, seeing poor Dany ending up like that was kinda heartbreaking. Even if he was a douchebag, he still was Ed's adoptive son. Poor Ed lost too many Sons and now even his passion...
Ed did give a little head-nod, which I think was his way of either; admitting the universe hates him, or that Danny was trying to "do right" in the end, not take precious resources and atone for his mistakes - I think of Ed as sort of an old Samurai/Veteran that will push to clear their slate at the end of the day, and respect that in others. Whether that's right or wrong morally, I have no clue, and I do not condone this as an option IRL. PLEASE - if you're in over your head, reach out to someone, anyone, for help - you're gonna be surprised about how many ppl care about you.
I’m also so happy that FAM still puts out 10 episode seasons lol I get SO mad when I’m expecting 8 or 10 and realize on week 7 that the last episode was the season finale 😫
One major issue I noted regarding this episode was that with Ed being removed from his duties, there's no one really left to pilot Ranger 1 to capture Goldilocks. Svetlana was sent back to the USSR and with Ed out of the picture due to his tremor, they haven't really highlighted anyone who can take their place unless they want to trust someone who takes a 10 week crash course to capture it. So, that makes me think that Irina really does hold most of the cards here to guarantee the USSR's position since they may offer Svetlana back to M-7 to capture it, albeit with concessions to maintain President Korchenko's position that the USSR's iridium mining not be affected. The only way I see that happening is if the iridium isn't brought back to Earth, but rather the M-7 encourages new industries to move to Mars to start a new technological boom on the Red Planet, thus kicking off a potential for a Independence movement on Mars come Season 5 or Season 6 since the workers mentioned they'd have to bring a lot more people to mine and process Goldilocks than Happy Valley currently has. Also, I think the smelly Helios suit Miles complained about last episode is a nod that it was Danny's suit, thus explaining that his body was brought back to Happy Valley. I think it also affected Ed a bit more than he lets on as Danny looks eerily similar to Gordo's looks (mustache and all) back in S2 on Jamestown when he tried to take his helmet off on the Moon.
This is the kind of episode that people who only watch the show for space scenes complain about, but they’re really missing so much. I think Deb has big plans for Mars. I think either later in this season or the next we could see a push for Martian independence, as its own sovereign body. Some kind of inverse of the situation a few episodes ago involving Margo would be an interesting development. The US discovering she is still alive and well in the Soviet Union and demanding her return to the US for trial. And the potential for that to restart a new Cold War.
I love your videos, Pete. Thanks for breaking this down so well. I am pretty excited to see where it goes. The acting is really top notch which makes watching this a true joy.
Is there no IRS in the alternate history? Miles' wife buying a house and other luxuries while it's been established that Miles' net income is pretty low, that should definitely raise some suspicion with authorities.
It's too early. You only get in trouble with IRS if you do no declare your income. If Miles wife fails to declare the extra money on her next income tax form, then they might get in trouble. So, it would take probably a year before that becomes an issue. In the short term they might get into trouble if there is a investigation into Helios employees (eg FBI running a check for possible espionage or Helios running an internal audit after Dev's takeover).
Kelly telling Dev that the weaker Martian gravity and Happy Valley's artificial atmosphere will be beneficial for Alex's weakened health is also a reminder to the audience of Earth's potential negative effect on Ed's weakening health.
I can honestly say the notion that the crew ate Danny’s body never occurred to me. Was anybody else served up during their ordeal? In this alternate timeline, perhaps the grim jokes about the Donner party had a 21st-century update?
Being a huge Trek fan, specifically DS9 which Rob Moore worked on, there was saying about Miles O'Brien that goes, "O'Brien must suffer" because every episode that focused on him, he was suffering some horrible situation. For All Mankind I am going to coin the phrase "Ed Must Suffer," because he's constantly getting shafted or painted in a weak/pathetic light. It makes me sympathize with his character, but it almost feels like Ed is the show's punching bag.
@@themidcentrist Ed's son dying and his wife cheating on him with son's best friend we can't exactly blame on him, neither him making up with his ex-wife only for her to die in a terrorist attack. He could have been the first American on Mars but they threw a sandstorm at him and he aborts the landing to protect his dead friend's son who he doesn't know was his wife's lover. And then he finally finds a woman who likes him and she gets sent back to Earth to rot in some gulag somewhere. None of these things was his fault.
@@johnq4951 Whether she was a Karen or not wasn't really the point; he loved her, he didn't physically abuse her or cheat on her, his only crime was having a dangerous job. Also I forgot to mention how Molly chose Ed to lead the NASA Mars mission, got his hopes up, and then Margo replaced him with Dani so he went to Helios. He would have been the first American on Mars had that not happened. They also had him break his leg on the space hotel so Danny had to save the day. Don't get me wrong, I think many of these choices by the writers makes Ed an interesting and sympathetic character, but now that I've realized how often they seem to hand him L's I am fully expecting him to suffer even more and likely die by the end of the season.
"Space flight has become routine". That is the complacency that caused the Challenger and Columbia Disasters. The writers are going somewhere with this. I think Ed's daughter and grandson are going to die in an accident on the way to Mars.
Its what a person says when they want to bring their son on their lifes adventure when in truth they should stay at home. Its a justification. Maybe more true than when only regular flights to Jamestown were happening. Strictly true in that many flights go to nd from on a schedule. The very definition of routine. I agree with you though, no space travel is, even in their time without danger. Personally I think well see a reunion between Kelly and Ed on mars and some nice moments before he checks out.
The upper bound on the period of a mars-crossing elliptical orbit originating from Jupiter is 6.2 years. It's going to circulate around the inner solar system for millions of years so why is capture so urgent? Even if it can't be captured to Mars orbit this time around they could apply as much delta-v as they have and shorten the period even more
I thought that was a great episode, possibly the best of this season so far. The main theme was family and I thought they explored the difficulties that a lot of the characters face being separated from their families. Side note about the timeline- I’m assuming 9/11 and the Iraq War never happened as we haven’t seen them mentioned by Gore or his staff?
With the big shift to fusion energy and kicking Fossil fuels to the curb, the US has very little interest in the affairs of the Middle East now, makes sense
@@soopahsoopah 😭 your math is appalling, Each season is 10 episodes Season 3 makes 30, season 4 episode 5 makes 35 7 seasons = 70 episodes 70/5 = 35 Hence Goldilocks 1🤭😏
i was amazed how much Danny looked like Gordo. The whole Dani Ed dynamic has been nicely set up and is a continuation of the fight Molly and Margo had. Dani and Margo are by far my favorites even though Margo's naivete is sometimes head smacking.
I remember watching season 3 expecting Ed to die heroically during the finale. When the finale did roll around, was surprised he survived at the end. Being honest, the show made the right call because I feel like too many characters have died "being the hero", and its bound to become a trope, so this is a fresh breath of air to slowly end his character by the finale of this season. Hard to tell how many seasons will happen after the season 1 protagonists are gone, they haven't really introduced any characters that will seem to have a long timespan in the series. I'd imagine the series would likely end whenever it's caught up to 2023, or likely 2027 aka whenever season 6 comes out since that'll be caught up to the modern day
Thanks Pete! I agree that Miles stuff feels a little disconnected, but I just love Toby Kebell and I think his scenes are also very fun to watch because of him.
@@Mecca4BA Yeah I agree, the show and writers are great so I’m sure we’re in for a treat. It’s just been quite slow moving compared to other plot lines thus far. We’ll get there!
@@edkwon completely agree 👍 I just felt in the beginning that it was a little like watching two different, yet captivating shows. It’s starting to cooler together blue though, as expected!
Here’s my question: Does Irina actually know that Margo and Aleida are close? She obviously knows who Margo is and what she’s done and that she did it for Sergi (sp?), but does she know that Margo and Aleida are like family? I don’t know that she’s made that connection, or that she knows that they were anything more than colleagues at NASA. Side note: Kelly’s speech to Aleida about there being a million reasons not to do something, but she has to find the reason to do it feels prophetic to me. Margo and Aleida’s relationship has always mimicked (in my mind) Margo’s relationship with von Bronn. They almost seem to be on the same trajectories. Maybe this time around it’s Aleida who does something she didn’t want to do but for Margo. Margo will be her “one reason” to do something against the million reasons not to.
She's high-level KGB and they've presented her as being competent and you'd think they dug into Margo's life thoroughly before they got her out of the US
@@PetePeppers1But there’s always the chance that they missed that. I think Margo kept their personal relationship on the low (the whole immigrant thing) and it might’ve slipped. My question is, what happens when it comes to a head…. There is no if in this. Hey, it could end up being a good thing…. With a little bit of bad timing.
A good episode, the Danielle/Ed explosion we've been building up to very well done, and we can see the big revelation re: Margo being set up, we'd all guessed Danny committed suicide, so that was a wee bit of a non-event, but am I the only one who thinks some actual space action wouldn't go amiss at this point?
I think hes going to stay on Mars and die there and Kelly and her son will spend way longer up there than they plan and maybe even discover some martial bacteria. There is nothing on earth for Ed now Kelly and her son are coming to mars everything of Ed Baldwin that is left and that was is now on Mars. It would be cruel (storytelling) and when Danny Poole was dressing Ed down I was worried she would send him hone but as noted in the vid here and myself when watching its like thats not even part of the conversation.
I don't think a cannibalism plot fits into this series. I don't think Amber would have allowed Danielle to host Avery's birthday party and present the birthday cake to her daughter. Especially, if she knew that they gave Danny the same treatment you would to livestock. Provided Danny his own private enclosure, denied him the opportunity to live with the rest and the only reason to interact with Danny was to make sure he's well fed. I highly doubt this is what Amber meant when she said, "Every year it gets a little easier." This season has done nothing to setup the dark secret and not telling Amber. I would think Amber would never want to see their faces again and be reminded of what happened to Danny. There's no hints that Amber will ever be mentioned again for the rest of the season. Maybe another decade or two when Avery is old enough to be apart of space travel.
Dead Danny sitting in his space suit outside the North Korean capsule did not look like the real actor (Casey W. Johnson) to me. More like a prop head replica of him that appeared overly pale, slim, and waxy. It would make sense from a production standpoint that his actual final scenes with Dani inside the capsule (as well as VanSanten's recorded video message) were already filmed for S3 when these two actors were still a regular part of the show, instead of calling them back in for a few minor scenes in S4 after their exits.
It is really is Casey, the actor. We filmed him there, sitting as still as possible, then did a little more treatment to get his skin a little less shiny, his eyes dry, lips dry, etc. (VFX Supervisor for the show, here) :) All done for Season 4, not Season 3. Enjoy!
The sum of 20 trillion is quite relevant as it is the combined GDP of the USSR and the US (as shown in the timeline videos). Obviously, with a constant demand a large influx (supply) of iridium would plummet its price. However, as it is indicated there Iridium has potential disruptive applications in so many industries that it would inevitably increase its demand and make the owners of the iridium rich. It is however a much larger threat for the USSR given their lower technological innovation level and thus they have the biggest incentive to lead the capture efforts to a failure. Alternatively, they could attempt to take over the happy valley base by force and have the entire asteroid for themselves.
I think if it was reality he almost certainly would have either Parkinson's or some serious nervous system damage from all the steroids he was on for ages. It makes sense..
Damn I was still hoping through Episodes 1-4 that Danny is just in jail, with Jimmy, both doing gardening and making plans to get as far away from Houston / Space Coast as soon as they get out in 2004, by the end of the season. On the Gordo-and-Tracy-Stevens scale of chewing over TV character death, this is a solid 8 (10 is G&T Stevens themselves...)
goldilocks iridium will probably end up on mars to solve the issue with russia. and with it mars will use it to build mars bigger and better tech like in the expanse.
I think the Soviet Union in this timeline is going to try to destroy any chance of getting to Goldilocks rather than let it fall into the hands of the other nations.
@@MandoMadness Yeah they do the Soviet Union is one of the leading suppliers of iridium. If they prevent the other nations from getting their hands on Goldilocks then they are still one of the only suppliers of iridium on the planet. If on the other hand the nations of the world get their hands on Goldilocks they don't have to go to the Soviet Union anymore for the iridium and also the amount of iridium added to the market will make the price of iridium drop down to the point that it'll cost more to mine it than it will to sell it thus crushing the Soviet Union's economy.
@@MandoMadness Oh sorry Guess I misunderstood all's good However on the other hand if the Soviet Union was to gain control of Goldilocks they can have access to all of the iridium and they can control the price.

Doesn't make sense, incredibly hard to do. They might want to set it off course, maybe with a nuke... But destroy it altogether no way
Miles is annoying. He is building a ‘house of cards’ that, as we all know, will fall/fail. That said, his Mars rock business is not taking away from the other business. I have a hard time believing no one knows about the smuggling of stuff into Happy Valley, does that guy think the rock gig will undermine his business? What will he really do to Miles that won’t expose him?
I read an article about an easteregg that conects FaM to star trek, something about a fictional book in the trek universe that can be seen in Danny's office, but i'm not a trekky so i didn't get it..anyone else saw that? You think FaM is a prequel to trek?
It couldn't possibly be a prequel as it is mentioned the first American space shuttle was named after the USS Enterprise. Not to mention Kelly and Karen mentioned The Wrath Of Khan.
Danni practically had John Fiedler's bio memorized when Gordo was trying to place the _Newhart_ actor. She mentioned that Fiedler was a character actor that played Hengist on _Star Trek_. The episode, _Wolf in the Fold_, aired in 1967, before most of the obvious divergences, and a lot of other art like popular music doesn't seem affected by the timeline so it might just be the exact same fictional _Trek_ that we have.
them staying on mars makes me even believe that this is a prequel to the expanse with smart people slowly staying on mars. kelly could also be the founder of the terraformation project in mars in the future just like what martians do the expanse.

If this series turns out to be a prequel to the expanse my oh my 👏👏👏
I al SO GLAD Danny decided to stand up for herself. Most of the time when her and Ed get into arguments, I always think that he feels like he was always right and I got that he always thought he was superior than Danny. He never takes her feelings into consideration or even wants to. They only reason to me they are friends is because they were forced to be. That one time when he said she only got the job because she was black was disgusting and I would never look at him the same. When she told him off I had to stand up and clap for her. I hope he never gets to go to space again after this.
I think Aleida WILL see Margo, or become aware of her being there. If Irina does 'hide' her valuable asset away during the M-7 conference, it's possible that Aleida will suss it out by simply reading the math and equations that Irina might share at the M-7 to make a point she needs people to understand, furthering her agenda. But I know Margo's presence and her position as Irina's assistant will become known to Aleida. You can see it coming! Here's an interesting thought or two: 1) When Aleida discovers Margo's high treason, she'll immediately jump on her sanctimonious high horse! She'll certainly tell Hobson at the earliest moment possible! No way does Aleida keep news like that a secret. 2) With that knowledge, Hobson could put pressure on Irina to surrender Margo to US custody, just like Irina put the screws to him over Svetlana Zakharova! What a pickle that will be for Irina! She won't want to surrender such a valuable asset as Margo! I don't think she'd protect Margo for 'feelings of friendship and appreciation', only for Margo's value to her and her cause. It's going to be a political trainwreck, push & pull exercise! 3) Will Irina be forced to give Svetlana back in trade for keeping Margo? I say 'nope'. Svetlana isn't an important piece of property to the US, not enough to allow Margo to remain a Russian asset. This storyline is the most intriguing to me. The rest of it, Ed, Kelly, her sick kid, Dani, Dev, Miles, his growing attraction to Massey, Ilya's discovery about Miles' side hustle, Danny's corpse, etc etc are all like B+ soaps in comparison. Interesting soaps, but soaps nonetheless.
I take exception to the idea that Aleida is, or has ever been, on a “sanctimonious high horse”. If you recall, it wasn’t Aleida who told the FBI about Margo giving the designs to the Russians in the first place, it was Bill (which she expressly told him not to do, and then after she found out he did, she told him he was dead to her). Aleida’s not going to sell Margo out. I don’t see that happening. She didn’t do it last season, and in every episode this season, she has remembered Margo fondly and even defended her actions in that argument with Bill. I especially don’t think she’d sell her out without finding out why she gave the Russians the design in the first place. Aleida loves Margo (as a mentor/mom-like figure), so her “outing” her, or doing anything that’s going to hurt her just seems out of character for her personally, and their relationship in general.
@@rosanazugey8536 You're right! 👍 I forgot that it wasn't Aleida that directly sold out Margo. I just remembered it was her discovery that lead to Margo's undoing. I sincerely hope that Aleida will try to help Margo when she sees her at the M-7 conference. It would be nice. Margo has certainly paid the price for her sins back at NASA. She was mainly guilty of stupidity, not high treason. Let's hope it all ends well for her.
Honestly it was so relieving Dani tearing into Ed, as I felt he’s been selfish and has gotten worse as a person. He killed a Russian when he was helpless in season 1, almost caused nuclear war in season 2, brought Danny along and made excuses why he shouldn’t be sent back up to the space station in season 3. He clearly doesn’t give a damn if you aren’t close to him. Where in S4 E2 he was straight up an asshole to Miles when he could’ve easily handled it better, he hides his medical condition even though it could get people killed. But most of all his, be a man” shtick really rubs me the wrong way as I know someone is like that and I can’t stand that shit. So you can say I have personal grudge against his character and the sooner he’s dead the happier I’ll be.
Uh… Ed didn’t kill any Russian in season 1, and he *prevented* a nuclear war in season 2. You might want to rewatch the early episodes, because it feels like you don’t have a good memory of it. Ed is a much more nuanced character that what you seem to think.
@@thomasbdl I did just rewatch it and yeah, he didn’t kill the Russian, but he easily could’ve after he was helpless. As for season 2, yeah he in the end did the right thing, but up until the last moment he was hell bent on causing ww3 as I do recall.
See this is one reason I wish our version of nasa gained its own budget on there own and didn’t rely on the government to allocate it to them from taxes. Mainly because then there stuck kissing the ass of all the politicians in charge of that. I hope nasa can capture a large asteroid sell it off and be set for 10+ years. This way they have the $ to get stuff the scientists know need to be done and not have politicians stopping them
I said Ed Baldwin was a see you next tuesday after 5 episodes of season 1. Season 4 episode 5 is him at his worst. Threatening Dannielle Poole because shes pressing on him the very serious issue which he is deliberately avoiding. My theory for how Danny ended up in isolation is that we dont see Ed threatening to kill Danny (stevens) and Danny Poole insists on his exile as a way of keeping Danny alive and safe from Ed. Ed Baldwin is the series main protagonist and he is a hero, but id serve under Danielle Poole over Ed Baldwin every day of the week.
***warning: possible spoilers in my comment so beware*** if someone hasn't watched episode 6 (Leningrad) of Season 4. I thought I really hated the "Danny" character because of all the terrible things he did even as far back as childhood but MILES? I really can't even stand to watch him! He is such a .. well.. can't describe really except he looks like a walking pity party and I just can not stand him! He (his character) shouldn't even be in the series! At the very least they could've written his character a little better or ..IDK. I don't know if anyone else feels that way about him but I've NEVER felt sorry for him and now look what he has done and IS doing to the ENTIRE planet and more! Danny didn't even go that far. UGH I really almost have to skip through his scenes except that there is always some info that I (we) seem to need to see what's going to happen. He is a walking time bomb for everyone and now he brought in a whole crew to help him do it.. I really enjoyed Daniel FINALLY telling Ed off! It was FANTASTIC. The problem is of course now Ed is on the war path and he is now a bitter very screwed up old man with just enough power and ability to alter situations so there's that. Between him and then this Miles guy.. well I can see the series coming to a halt LIGHTNING fast, however they always seem to find ways out or deal with these things. Margo being allowed to meet with Aleida let alone "work" with her is beyond belief and that's saying something considering all that happened and knowing Russia in the show. I did NOT think the Russians would even consider letting her "out" herself let alone get that involved PUBLICLY! So, that was a shock. Aleida's reaction.. not shocking at all except I did NOT think she'd cave to helping Margo aka THE RUSSIANS as she hated all the crimes that happened previously but Margo's Treasonous actions. A LOT happened in the latest episode and I truly enjoyed it more than ANY in season 4 so far. I'm just really wondering how it will all blow up (no pun intended). I do wonder what Kelly baby will say when she (if she) finds out what Ed has been (is) doing. I don't think she'd like it at all. Her "perfect" "daddy" doing things like that? hmmm
On the topic of eating Danny its like I said to me vegan colleague at work. If im stuck on a desert island and I have a pig for a friend. I dont like touching the insides of animals (ive gutted fish for work) but that pig can be my friend until I get really hungry. Then its bacon time. I think starvation would remove a lot of peoples hangups.
not mine.. I know I couldn't do anything like that. I couldn't even eat a rabbit when I was literally starving.. so I guess each to his or her own. There are some lines that I couldn't and wont cross and that definitely includes PEOPLE. no way no how... ever.
Who gets the majority of the Rock? Thats whats going to shape the TV show and the conflicts in the future! If i was the writers i would have wrote out all scenarios with all the countries involved!🤷🏽♂️. Wonder who they picked?🤔
"Space flight has become routine". This makes me wonder if we will see some hidden third party pull off a 9/11 and crash everyone's plans at the end of the season.
lmao yeah that whole series (or what I watched of it till I just got so tired of the same old stuff) was way OVERBOARD on the cannibalism thing.. not enough about anything else.
My guess how Ed dies is that when they go to get the astroid they send it off corse and heading right twoards earth. The only way to stop it is for Ed to go on a sucide mission to delfect it.
nah thinking that the soviets want to sabotage the operation, the US thinks ahead and tries to blow a bit off and divert that part into a new orbit. they can then claim it their own, gore wins bigtime, and Ed will blow up coz it needs to somehow be manually triggered. just my two cents.
I hope Miles wife is having a really good time on all that money he's been sending her! LMAO I think she slipped on the master bedroom thing because she means her boyfriend! LOL I can see that happening for sure. Miles is just greedy period no matter what else.
What's with the Soviet Union being in a permanent winter... The detail seems out of place... I know it was done for creative reasons but come on... Let Margot have some sun. For context the original "tanks surrounding the Russian parliament that happened in 1991" happened in August and the average temperatures are around 75 degrees.
Low gravity seems like the last place you would send someone with a weak heart, it could only make it weaker. If it were beneficial they would be floating Alex on epsom salts and supplementing his oxygen. His mother's presence will probably do more for his well-being than the physical situation
I appreciate these recaps. Wishing you continued success. Through these recaps i have stopped watching the show. Its now similar to all other shows. Its political, emotional, and heavy back story driven now. It changed. Honestly becoming predictable as every show. This was one of the last series that i have watched. Good shows either are cancel after a season or two, canceled before the end of the story, or changed to something else. All of this is fluff to stretch the story. I just cant watch this show anymore. However i will continue to follow your excellent work.
The Miles plot line always feels the most unrealistic to me. With how tightly space flight is regulated, even if it is routine, I find it difficult to believe they could smuggle all this stuff to Mars. And then to have something wrapped in newspaper again doesn’t feel real. Really? And of course the one piece of newspaper is of the rocks that somehow are getting through pre and post flight inspection and being smuggled out of wherever the return flights are landing. And then the added weight is ignored. I love this show but this whole plot line is meh. I will add it was great to see Karen again, not sure why they offed her, and the actor playing Danny did a fantastic job. As Pete said, you kind of felt for him a bit. And no one I’ve talked to about the show ever thought about cannibalism. Hope they leave whatever happened to Danny’s body unstated.
The newspaper wrapping was a stretch but id say a useful tool for storytelling. Remember though that Tracey and Gordo were discussing Traceys illicit channel for obtaining cigarettes on Jamestown. These are I think practical realities to humans. A way would be found to supply illicit desires.
Dramatic. I dont see him being that selfish. I think like the video here, when i first watched hes gutted that his own mother didnt say "I wont/cant leave my son" like Kelly did to him.

Ed made some really dumb decisions…especially sending his best friend back to moon…that never should have happened. He also should have never brought Danny to Mars after NASA grounded him AND his wife was pregnant.

This episode really hit hard emotionally! The writers did such a strong job of revealing these characters over the course of their adult lives
Crazy good writing, acting and directing - wow. This is Emmy level output by the All Mankind team. Bravo.
Margo was so right when it comes to picking Danielle as the leader of NASA's Mars mission in 1994.
margo was the best
in s3 it was the opposite, ed choose safety/his crew over being first on mars. while dani choose risk/death to be first. margo choose dani because she thought she was more level headed less likely to choose risk/death, molly choose ed because he was more risky but he chose safety
Dani yelling gave me goosebumps, Krys Marshall killed the scene
Another great episode. Another great review. They are setting up Ed to make a very heroic final good decision, after so many questionable one.
It would be cruel for Kelly and her son when they travel to Mars hoping to finally see Ed, but he's been send back to Earth.

Predictions:
- Aleida will encounter Margo in the USSR (obvious, many events point in this direction)
- Dev will die this season on/at Mars either by accident or fatal illness that he's already aware of (thus the urgency to go to Mars)
He’s basically Steve Jobs and Apple.
I laughed how Gore claimed he personally found the asteroid the same way he created the internet.

Oh for the olden days he sighs wistfully.
His daughter will do it
She’s not a pilot she’s a scientist

I was totally about to explode in this episode, it was so good! I liked your commentary too, what a great complement to the episode.
I can honestly say the notion that the crew ate Danny’s body never occurred to me. Was anybody else served up during their ordeal? In this alternate timeline, perhaps the grim jokes about the Donner party had a 21st-century update?
I expect them to use that song "Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids" in the next episode :D
I think O'Brien was generally a much more sympathetic character, while Ed brings a lot of his suffering onto himself.
@@themidcentrist Ed's son dying and his wife cheating on him with son's best friend we can't exactly blame on him, neither him making up with his ex-wife only for her to die in a terrorist attack.

OMG the feels . What an episode
"Space flight has become routine". That is the complacency that caused the Challenger and Columbia Disasters. The writers are going somewhere with this. I think Ed's daughter and grandson are going to die in an accident on the way to Mars.
Nah, that’s too harsh…. Maybe Dev tho.
Cannibalism may explain Ed's condition. Prions and spongiform encephalopathies, aka Kuru disease.
This proves they ate Danny.
Next time jump, Cannibalism has become a time honored tradition an way of life amongst the Martian people.
Great Vid, love For All Mankind!
The upper bound on the period of a mars-crossing elliptical orbit originating from Jupiter is 6.2 years. It's going to circulate around the inner solar system for millions of years so why is capture so urgent? Even if it can't be captured to Mars orbit this time around they could apply as much delta-v as they have and shorten the period even more
Surprising to know that in the alternate timeline, The Mclaren 720S came out in 2003 rather than in 2017

An easter egg you overlooked was that the Thomas Paine Space Telescope is based on the real world James Webb telescope.

There is nothing on earth for Ed now Kelly and her son are coming to mars everything of Ed Baldwin that is left and that was is now on Mars. It would be cruel (storytelling) and when Danny Poole was dressing Ed down I was worried she would send him hone but as noted in the vid here and myself when watching its like thats not even part of the conversation.
Pete Peppers Thank you for posting.
I think they ate Danny and just didn’t tell certain people.
I guess “he wasn’t ready” meant undercooked

FaM looks more like a prequel to The Expanse.

Yes, there are very strong signs the writers are setting up an unexpected encounter.
Doubt it. 😅
Gore may start looking for ManBearPig on Mars?

Didn’t Lee (Li?) _say_ he wanted to defect? It’s entirely possible I imagined that.
Poor Miles is so doomed. Poor, simple Miles
This way they have the $ to get stuff the scientists know need to be done and not have politicians stopping them
No no no no no no no let Danny rest no no no no don’t do itttttt
There are some lines that I couldn't and wont cross and that definitely includes PEOPLE. no way no how... ever.
That was one of the best episodes In the series for a while.
The statement "Space flight has become routine" brings to mind Challenger and Columbia, where complacency ended with disaster.
Did Ed learned about danny and Karen in season 3?
No - Danny never told him.
Getting some Yellowjacket vibes from the eating Danny thing.
lmao yeah that whole series (or what I watched of it till I just got so tired of the same old stuff) was way OVERBOARD on the cannibalism thing.. not enough about anything else.
Dark dark episode
My guess how Ed dies is that when they go to get the astroid they send it off corse and heading right twoards earth. The only way to stop it is for Ed to go on a sucide mission to delfect it.
That's the plot of too many movies already
nah thinking that the soviets want to sabotage the operation, the US thinks ahead and tries to blow a bit off and divert that part into a new orbit. they can then claim it their own, gore wins bigtime, and Ed will blow up coz it needs to somehow be manually triggered. just my two cents.
I really hope they didn't eat Danny. That is just way too disturbing.
Holy shit...they ate him
I hope Miles wife is having a really good time on all that money he's been sending her! LMAO I think she slipped on the master bedroom thing because she means her boyfriend! LOL I can see that happening for sure. Miles is just greedy period no matter what else.
why didnt they send danny back to earth? why make him stay?
They definitely had Danny McNuggets.
Just realised how much I dislike the Ed Baldwin character. This guy is so selfish and self centered.
Well done Danny- 🤤👨🏻🍳🍽️
What's with the Soviet Union being in a permanent winter... The detail seems out of place... I know it was done for creative reasons but come on... Let Margot have some sun. For context the original "tanks surrounding the Russian parliament that happened in 1991" happened in August and the average temperatures are around 75 degrees.
danny is a snack XD
Can’t wait for Alisa to see Margo in Russia.
I want to see the cannibalism.
Eat him!
Cook him up with veggies grown in poop.
Low gravity seems like the last place you would send someone with a weak heart, it could only make it weaker. If it were beneficial they would be floating Alex on epsom salts and supplementing his oxygen. His mother's presence will probably do more for his well-being than the physical situation
Pit Peters
What am I missing? How are they low on food? And if they are low, how does all the illicit stuff get there but food doesn’t?
They were low on food after the mining accident that happened last season. Mars has grown since then.
@@brauliob yeah were the Danny scenes a flashback? If so I missed that.
Go back to Season 3 and check out the time lapse video 😐
I appreciate these recaps. Wishing you continued success. Through these recaps i have stopped watching the show. Its now similar to all other shows. Its political, emotional, and heavy back story driven now. It changed. Honestly becoming predictable as every show. This was one of the last series that i have watched. Good shows either are cancel after a season or two, canceled before the end of the story, or changed to something else. All of this is fluff to stretch the story. I just cant watch this show anymore. However i will continue to follow your excellent work.
Eating people never crossed my mind. You might want to get help.
I think Dev is dying. I think he cried because he has every intention of crashing that ship. With everyone on it.
Dramatic. I dont see him being that selfish. I think like the video here, when i first watched hes gutted that his own mother didnt say "I wont/cant leave my son" like Kelly did to him.
