  • How to ripple move, cut, split, insert, extend clips on your timeline in this Camtasia tutorial. I show you 6 quick tips that will greatly enhance your video editing in Camtasia, saving you time and making it more convenient to move, split, cut, ripple delete, insert and extend clips in your project.
    These Camtasia time-saving tips are not complicated or hard to remember, and once you get used to them, they become second nature, particularly when you are editing large projects with many assets. They come in handy especially when you have a larger project with multiple tracks and multiple clips on each track. In that case, it can get tricky to keep everything from jumping out of sync.
    Camtasia includes a few hidden functions and keyboard shortcuts that may not be evident to the novice user, but they can seriously improve your editing once you learn them.
    Chapters in this video:
    00:00 Introduction
    00:27 Ripple Move
    02:05 Multi-track Ripple Move
    02:55 Ripple Split
    04:57 Insert Time
    06:18 Extend Frame
    07:05 Ripple Move and Extend Frame

    I most certainly enjoyed this tutorial. I knew some, but defo not all. Especially your last trick has been invaluable to me in my line of work ... luckily it was one I already had in my arsenal. So thank you! I have a pc in the office, and a mac at home, and try to find out what the differences are. I don't know whether you have a tutorial on using the keyboard shortcut editor, but I find that quite useful too.

      Great to hear! The PC and Mac versions do have some differences, and it's hard to decide which one is best because they each have some extra over the other or are missing something that the other has... it's hard to maintain feature parity across OSes I suppose. I don't have a keyboard shortcut tutorial yet. What would you be interested in seeing?

    Thanks for this video, how to join 2 segments without any selection. The secund question how to improve the performance of camtasia 2020 ,specially when the project is quiet big because in this case the camtasia is slow and laggy . With many thanks .

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure I understand your first question: joining two segments of a clip to make them behave like a single clip? You can 'stitch' them together but only if they were originally part of the same media file. If they are from different files, they can't be stitched. You can select and group the two clips so they stay together in a group and can be moved around, cut, split, etc. just like a normal clip. If you want to make cuts and not worry about moving the clips to fill the gaps, you can enable Magnetic track. This will glue together any clips on the same track as soon as space is created between them.
      As far as performance, Camtasia has a performance problem, even in the 2021 version but you can help by having a SSD to store the media files you work with. Also it helps if you have plenty of RAM to avoid swapping. If it's a larger project, I recommend breaking it apart into sections and editing them individually, if you can. Then at the end you can stitch the exported produced files together, using something like Losslesscut, which is free and very fast, it stitches video together from multiple files without re-encoding, so there's no loss of quality: th-cam.com/video/USMXFmJfYZo/w-d-xo.html

    Very insightful. Where do I get all the available shortcut keys for Camtasia?

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kevin, you can find all the shortcuts in the program Preferences, there's a 'Shortcuts' tab. That's where you can also change them. Camtasia doesn't have too many shortcuts though.

    Dear Christi, very grateful! How do I do it when I want to cut an even smaller piece of video footage than the arrow space normally allows? Is it possible to crop millimeters from a video?

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  ปีที่แล้ว

      The cuts are really up to the frame. No more than that, so you'll want to maybe increase your project frame rate to 60fps to allow finer cuts, but that's about it.

    • @Graphicious

      Depends on the transition. You can make the duration of the transition the same as the animation used to remove the callout. I hope I understood your question.

    Thank you. The SHIFT shortcut for ripple move doesn't seem to work on Mac. Is there another way to do it?

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  ปีที่แล้ว

      According to this document, there's no shortcut listed for Mac: www.techsmith.com/learn/tutorials/camtasia/ripple-move-and-extend-frame
      It hate that Camtasia doesn't have feature parity across operating systems.

  • @12boxes
    @12boxes ปีที่แล้ว

    Great - this is a keeper. Thanks. My question: What if right at the start of my project I have a video of (say) me speaking, and I want to take a second or two out of the start of it? At that point, only the one track has anything on it, but when I delete the few seconds, I want all the later items on the other tracks to move left in sync. How do I do that?

    • @Graphicious
      @Graphicious  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have that situation sometimes too. You can select the beginning and CTRL + X (which will cut the selection out and shift everything LEFT, no matter what track they are on.
      But if you have other tracks with things that you need to stay put and only several OTHER tracks with clips you want to pull forward, I've found that you need to slice the clip you want to cut, remove the beginning part, then zoom out, select everything else and shift left.
      Another way (again, if you want everything on all tracks to shift forward), SHIFT + DRAG of the playhead will work both ways - to push stuff to the right, as shown in this video, and shift stuff to the left too. Hope this helps.

    Trying to figure out how to delete, but move every clip in all timelines by the deleted time. Right now it only moves the clip I am deleting from. The issue is a lot of the annotations and stuff are not continuous so those parts of the tracks 7 and 8 are scattered and separated.
