i've noticed zendaya is the go-to for fan casts for black girl characters mainly bc alot of the ppl making it don't know any other black actors 😭😭
yes! when i see alya cesaire, or any fully black character being casted as zendaya, my eye violently twitches. there are so many other wonderful (and age accurate) actors to chose from! laya deleon hayes, marsai martin, coco jones, scarlet sofia spencer, dylan dash, leah sava jeffries, lindsey blackwell, etc!

it’s so annoying seeing people fancast white/ non-chinese asian actors as marinette. at first, it was something i could ignore, especially with older mlb fanfictions, because young east asian actors weren’t really being represented in western media at the time.
but when i see fans nitpick young chinese actresses appearances who actually could play marinette (miya cech for example) because they ‘don’t have blue hair’ or ‘don’t have blue eyes’ but cast 20-30 year old brunette actors as ‘perfect casting choices’ angers me to no end.

I have a special problem with fan casts for animated shows/movies because it feels like we're taking away from the uniqueness of animation and not acknowledging it as a real form of media. Like, why does everything have to be turned into a live action? The animated version was already stellar and more than enough, just leave it alone!

The main problem with fancasting is the actors are always the ones that are too popular and have played some iconic or rather memorable roles which takes away from the whole vibe of the show cuz when you see those people the first thing that's gonna come to mind is their said iconic roles. When you see Ming Na Wen, you're not gonna think it's Sabine even tho she's chinese and even the age not too far off. You're gonna see Malinda May or you're gonna remember her as Mulan

When I was still a Harry Potter fan, I used to hate the fancast for the marauders so much. Not only because I didn't agree/vibe with the castings, but also because a few people were just so annoying about it, some people acted like this was the only canon/good fancast and that others weren't valid lol.

I remember reading Aru Shah and the End of Time (basically Percy Jackson sort of adventures but based on Indian mythology instead of Greek) as a 5th grader and thinking that it would make a great movie so I looked up the fan casting and literally EVERYONE WAS WHITE EVEN THE INDIAN GODS LIKE ACTUALLY THE ONLY PERSON WHO WASN'T WHITE WAS FREAKING PRIYANKA CHOPRA LEGIT EVERYONE ELSE WAS WHITE IN A FAN CASTING OF A MOVIE BASED ON A BOOK SERIES ABOUT *INDIAN* MYTHOLOGY

Like, for example, they show a picture of young Amanda Seyfried for Rapunzel and say they would love to see her casted as her for a live-action TODAY. Yes, she would have been perfect, but now she is almost 40 guys wth ?
And I 100% agree with you, it would impact more if young characters were actually portrayed by young actors, for example in Hunger Games, LOVE the cast, but it would have impacted more if the actors playing the tributes were all actually 11-18 MAX. The Hunger Games series is already so impactful, imagine if you would have seen actual teenagers fighting in the arena and being apart of a rebellion, fight the government and having a real young adult as the face of the rebellion, would have been crazy ! Jennifer Lawrence portrayed Katniss's character so well but it isn't the same seing an adult going through all this than seing an actual teenager, because it is hard to keep in mind that they were all only children when everything happened when the actors look so mature. Jennifer Lawrence was already 20 but she had to portray a 16 yo, it's not the same.
