10:10 I KNEW I RECOGNISED THIS!! I live in Whanganui and have my whole life - I've spent many hours in that theatre and the alleys around it. Downtown Whanganui is full of beautiful art deco buildings and I love when they feature in movies.

I was very surprised Pearl didn't kill the judges (maybe not all of them) after they rejected her. A few more kills to the count and all.
i guess maybe because she'd be stopped b6 the other judges before she could finish one off. plus then people would find out she was a killer/attempted killer (in terms of the judges)
The ending with her smiling is just so incredibly done, Mia Goth deserved an Oscar

Ti West is such an amazing director both Pearl and X were amazing movies I love how Pearl has so many similarties to Carrie I am really excited to see Maxxxine because Mia Goth is such an incredible actress and very talented I loved that 8 minute speech monologue and the way she held her smile for 5 minutes straight the "I'm a star" is such an Iconic line and I am really happy that these movies were created

I live in Whanganui and saw a lot of the set for pearl as they were setting it up. Whanganui has a lot of very old buildings so most of the buildings stayed almost the same, they just added a few props and new signs. The theatre still has the ticket booth used in the movie and the alleyway by the movie theatre remains almost identical. Both my mum and sister met multiple actors from both movies and my mum even supplied some props for both movies, overall really cool experience

little detail in the movie Misty's cowardly fear she felt with Pearl resembles cowardly lion from Wizard of Oz and the projectionist was like the tin man with no heart no feelings towards anyone and pearl was Dorothy and so on and so forth (I know I sound annoying am a teenager in high school)
That 8-minute monologue should've got her an academy nom. Absolutely robbed.

My only problem with this film is what I call the Joker effect, where people idolize and sympathize with the title character even though they do horrible things. It’s okay to see yourself in parts of the character but adopting them as something to aspire to be is horrible. Being a Stan to an evil character is not a good thing

Mia Goth is really becoming 2020’s scream queen IMO. She’s played two lead characters in X, played the lead and co wrote Pearl. And is going to be the lead again in Maxxxine. I know she was in stuff before all this but she is really out here slaying with A24. Go Goth!

I also wonder how Howard's parents reacted to their daughter going missing. I guess it's just one of those things if you overthink it ruins the experience. Or X-perience haha.

I know it's such a small detail that doesn't matter but Pearl actually DID tell the projectionist that she was married since he asks her a question about her having a husband and she tells him he's overseas. And he also asks for her name after that by prompting her for her last name with "Mrs....?" and she just answers back with "Pearl"
I feel so bad for Mitzy. She was a nice girl whose only “crime” was getting the part.

3. The dad couldn’t do anything at all

And I suppose when you look at it, Pearl's mother was afraid of her which is why she treated her how she did. She even says it in her monolog before she's burnt when Pearl shoves her into the fireplace

@@derkommentartor8567But try to place yourself in that situation. As James said, the mother emigrated to the US, and it was not easy earning this new life. Then her husband got seriously sick and as she said, she had to be his mother/carer rather than his wife. Then her daughter is always dreaming about being a star and so on, when on top of everything there is a pandemic and a world war, where the enemy is Germany. Then the cherry on top of that horrible sundae, the mother knows that Pearl is not alright.
The thing that makes Pearl’s monologue so profound yet terrifying is how relatable it is. Her feelings of anger, regret, insecurity and loneliness are somethings almost everyone’s faced, and Pearl’s dreams and longing being challenged by reality just ground it even more. I found myself almost tearing up at her monologue because I saw parts of myself in her, even though she’s done extremely violent things. It gave me chills! This movie is so masterfully done.
