Really amazing video once again. I really enjoy your content. It really helps in those sleepless nights where I crave long and sometimes more darker toned videos. Thank you for all your effort! I have one question though if I may? In your Intro at 1:54 there is a screenshot of a channel from scooby1961. A Fitness TH-camr. How does he relate to your theme of the channel? Just wondered if there is something i missed about him. :(
That was actually the one thing he said that was correct lol. Not only as you have stated, but calories do actually cause ageing. The problem is you die without them. So pick your poison.
caloric restriction and intermittent fasting do slow aging, look up research by Jason fung or David sinclair. the reason so many fell for this breatharianism hoax is likely that there IS an element of truth to it: it works to a point, enough to convince superstitious people that there might be no limit to it if they're just dedicated enough.
You know the cult is legit when someone dies and the leads say "they didn't believe hard enough". I mean they believed it enough to die following it...

I give Naveena credit. Not only did she admit she was wrong, but also came to realize how her experiment could hurt people. That sort of self-awareness and responsibility is sadly lacking in many religious leaders/scammers and more recently social media influencers.

as someone who’s recovering from anorexia, how these people have failed to realize that this is textbook disordered eating is beyond me. it’s genuinely terrifying how easy it is to convince people to harm themselves under the guise of healthier living.
A weird hidden positive in all this is that we live in a time where food is so common and readily available that people have actually forgot what starvation looks and feels like on a personal level. You probably wouldn't fall for this idea if you actually lived alongside hunger as a regular feature of life
It's more damning that we live in a world where people are so privileged that, even with our modern understanding and access to knowledge, we forget that there is a significant portion of the global population that does not experience the same quality of life.
Are you insane? Your privilege is disgusting. There are millions of food-insecure families in developed countries, not to mention this is also the case for the majority of people in developing countries.
There’s an older SNL skit parodying Who Wants to be a Millionaire, featuring contestants from less fortunate countries. The contestant was doing well and won a bowl of soup. Double or nothing, the question was to match the definition to the mental disorder. I’m pretty sure it was anorexia. She was completely confused that it was a real issue and chose the wrong answer. No soup for her! Thought about that a lot while watching this. Whether positive or damning, may I simply go 🙄🙄. Bless these folks’ little hearts.

Even then, plants still require soil from which to extract vital minerals and nutrients, especially nitrogen, that they cannot get through photosynthesis or even through their stoma.
i struggle with an eating disorder, and at the peak of my addiction - to not eating - i did a two month fast. obviously, it nearly killed me, even though i was convinced i could be a perfect being without food, stronger than if i ever ate anything. even healthy foods. i thought my period stopping, my frail body, and my ability to overcome what i thought was a disgusting vice made me feel perfect, and holy. i know many others with severe anorexia have felt the same way, and i wonder how many of the participants of this movement are motivated by poor body image and a feeling of desecration when eating. this video is well done, by the way. i like how you laid it out, with naveena's story being the focus, drawn out from beginning to end. its sad that she wanted to make the world a better place, since it gave way to such a dangerous movement. i'm glad i never found this movement during the height of my eating disorder.

Some people just… don't have good in them.
i fully understand if you don’t feel comfortable answering this, but if i may ask, what was your diagnosis? i didn’t know that being gullible could possibly be a symptom of mental illness. that’s so scary, and i’m glad you’ve gotten help!
@@boogrlovr I have a few diagnoses, but I think the one that really affected me in that respect was autism/aspergers- I had a much harder time determining social cues or the kinds of subtleties and minute expressions of people that would most likely tip off others to a person's lie, so by default I always took everything other people said at face value as the truth, no matter how ludicrous. It's probably not a universal experience even among people with autism considering how differently the disorder manifests from one person to another, but just in my case, learning to mask and imitate the cruelties of my peers was the only means by which I figured out the ways I was manipulated. (and thank you, things have definitely gotten much better since then! ^^)
Yeah, that's what I thought listening to this. So many of the followers seem to be just really sweet and slightly naive people who want to believe the best about everyone and the potential of humanity. Of course they're the prime target for grifters...it's sad.

Throughout the entire history of mankind people have suffered from hunger. If it really was possible to live without eating then surely someone would have discovered it by accident by now.
" then surely someone would have discovered" Oh, but they did. All of those gurus in the video supposedly did. And the ones who did it before just died of natural causes and did so a long time ago (something like the 1800s), but they were very secluded and didn't record it in any form for us. Those who did it before them didn't even have a way to record it for future generations. *I'm not a breatharian and I don't believe in any of the bullshit I just wrote, that's ONE of their many explanations which are, just like this one, all BS.*
Everything they described about transcending the need for food just reminded me of somebody describing an Afterlife, wherein a physical body would be shed as being no longer necessary. It didn't sound at all like something you ever would have been expected to accomplish while you were actually still inhabiting that physical body.
I always find it ridiculous to expect to uncover some ancient or secret knowledge that will set apart and for it to only tell you something that is obviously false. I think people enjoy the idea of being special or chosen and so things like this capture those type of people.
I think your right. And people who obsessively search for "enlightenment" are often perfectionists. They want complete control over their minds, bodies, and fate. And are willing to do anything to achieve this 'perfect' state of being. Where breatharianism becomes an effective scam is that those who struggle with perfectionism are very susceptible to eating disorders.

Why is simply being human not mystical enough? The human condition, and all it is made of, is complex and simply amazing. Why do people feel the need to mess with that?
It reminds me of a largely forgotten Christian heresy/spirituality misconception called "angelism," the pretension that humans could be like angels on Earth if they were spiritual enough. That included not eating, not n1 or n2, and a bunch of mystical side effects. Craziest heresy ever. Theological librarian here. Saw that in an old book, but seen the idea in action in several saints bios, who then rejected it and embraced their redeemable, wonderful human nature.
Exactly, being human is enough. It doesn't matter who you are, where you are from, or how you look or what you have. We are all the same species, we are all human. I do not see the need to feel or become higher than we already are by going on 'breathanarian diets' and following some nutjob cult's orders. That Jasmuheen woman is a monster. She wrote an actual death guide for profit and then blamed peoples lack of integrity as the reason they died when they followed it. Also saying that her vital signs being a disaster were part of the natural 20 day process... okay but she has supposedly been doing it for years so why is she going through this "clensing" period now, the same as people who just started and, according to her own dogma, needed their old spirit to leave their body?

@@jesseminns Yes, but compared to the availability of information we have now it should be so much easier to debunk or verify information to some extent, and with such little effort. It's literally at our fingertips (Although many things obviously aren't so simple and require study to understand or life experience. Also, some things are more nuanced and are not so black and white.). Of course, with that easy access to mountains of information to sort through, including legitimate accurate info, comes misinformation (intentional or otherwise) and if we don't teach critical thinking apparently many people cannot differentiate between the two. Then of course there are unfortunately those who are willfully stupid or are profiting from taking a position publicly (for example politicians bought by oil/ energy companies denying climate change for example when they know they are full of it and they also know their paychecks depend on them pushing a false narrative as they did after tobacco company lobbyists paid them to try to silence or at least delay the findings that smoking causes cancer and that their product is a carcinogen among many other instances throughout history unfortunately where people put greed over truth and the common good/ public welfare and health). Also every single one of us (myself included obviously) can fall prey to our own confirmation biases or putting emotions before logic and holding onto some belief stubbornly because we associate it with patriotism or tribalism and/ or see it as part of our identity or a billion other reasons that make little sense but appeal to our egos.. unless we are aware of it and work diligently to make an effort to not fall into those traps and logical fallacies which will help us avoid it but we can still once in awhile fail.
I suppose the problem is that well educated and intelligent people have made life too easy for the imbeciles. I really can't feel too much sympathy for people who are this gullible.
I used to think the Internet would bring an age of enlightment. I didn't realize lack of information was NOT the reason people were saying and doing dumb things.
There will always be outliers, even among absolutes. If there's anything I've learned these past few years, its that you can gaslight anyone at anytime for anything.
So what's actually happening is very simple. There is a small number of grifters, these people are at the top, they make a majority of the content. Under them is an equally small group of followers, these people tend to be mentally ill or lack critical thinking. They assume any failures they have with the process are their own fault. What happens tho is the grifters end up grifting for so long that they delude themselves into thinking they're doing it for real and any inconsistencies in how they live isn't strange. As we see with the lady near the start, she does this for so long that she deludes herself into thinking she eats food because she "desires the taste/experience" rather than the fact she's starving.
I'm a voidarian. Not only have I not eaten, but I haven't breathed in the last 50 years. The breatharians are weak for still requiring air. I started at the age of 95 to help with some of the physical issues I've developed and I've never looked back. Despite being 145 years old, it's caused me to age backwards and now I look to be in my 20s or 30s, and I have far more energy than I've ever had.
You still need a body? That's weak, almost as weak as breatharians. I've became a pure consciousness that projects a vessel on this earth a thousand years ago.
"I don't understand why they didn't notice they were dying." While her health is declining and she's blaming her own mindset for it. This is terrifying.
The brain is 2% the weight of an adult body but needs 20% of your daily recommended calories. You don't notice you're dying cos your brain is dying too, shutting down. The metabolism also changes, turning off hunger as the digestive system shuts down. Lack of any protein means the body has to cannibalise anything it can, eating your own organs. Protein is needed to make so many things, like digestive and metabolic enzymes. Anorexics most often die from heart failure (the heart is muscle, canniblised) or fluid filling the lungs due to lack of surfactants. The effects of starvation have been studied very well
Well I've been in a fist fight in a McDonald's in the Lower East Side and I saw a guy kick a pigeon out the door of another one in Vancouver...not sure where the portal of love was, but then again I never used either restaurant's bathrooms so....
As someone who used to be anorexic I can't imagine wanting to literally starve yourself and it not being an eating disorder. But even at my lowest point/weight I was eating every day and I felt like absolute garbage and had the feeling I wouldn't get through the night at times. I've been eating "normally" (to the best of my ability) for almost 3 years now and my body still hasn't gotten used to it again, if it ever will. And I was "only" sick for 2 years, so I've either messed up my digestion/stomach or something or it's going to take more time until I regain the ability to feel hunger or have an appetite. TW: ED This is screaming eating disorder with extra steps so that no one can question your eating disorder. These were the thoughts I had when I was the deepest in my anorexia. The "purity" of not eating and the starvation euphoria (followed by feeling like shit forever). When you're deep in it it can become like a religion, I can see how someone already struggling could fall into this.
First off, I hope you’re well. This is incredible insight, it really should be categorized as a type of eating disorder. I can imagine seeing a bulimic-type breatharian one day
@@oliverquach9614 wouldnt a bulimic breatharian be just a binge/fast cycle/to me breatharianism seems like a hybrid of anorexia, orthorexia and pseudoscience. like what op said just before, "purity" and "clean eating" (or just rationalising foods to be "safe" like my man wiley with his yellow haagendaas and double qps) when they do eat
I first heard of breatharianism in the early 1970s. I was newly divorced at rhe age of 22. I was working temporarily in a factory, lifting and oacing all day long. I decided to try breatharianism. Ar lunch hour, I sat outside and took in light from the sun. People began offering me foid, and i said tgat i was not hungry. In fact, when you go through a long time of not eating, you actually do stop feeling the hunger. I kept doing this until i weighed 85 pounds. I wanted to travel, but my doctor said he would not sign the health rekease until i started eating and gained weight. I started out by eating one dry piece of tisst oer day. Then after about a week i added an apple each day. My mother notuved and began fixing lunches for me - raw vegetables, fruits, and oeanut butter on celery. Gradually i gained enough weight to please the doctor. Years later, I read about anorexua and realuzed that i had exierienced that. I still have anorexuc episodes now and then. But i am seriously overweight now!!! Please do not make fun of overweight people ir tell them to stop eating!!! That can be enough to bring in anorexia, resulting in serious metabolic disirders that can result in heart disease. Be kind. Allow people the space and the grace to heal. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. Everyone has hidden struggles and we could all use a little more grace. Hope you continue to strive to be happy and healthy. You deserve it 😊
Well I'm sure glad you came to your senses in the end and add people who had your best interest at heart but being overweight is a problem too with its own set of adverse consequences so I hope you can find a middle ground

@@D0NU75 a week or 2 is easily doable if you just have water and tea. I'm not recommending it but people do go through long fasts with only water. Great for weight loss. Bad for health.
I lived on a liquid diet for a month following a major surgery on my cervical spine. I am hear to attest you can survive but it sucks. On a positive note though I was using no sugar, organic products and lost 35 pounds. Since then I have not reintroduced sugar to my diet and I have kept the weight off even with my very limited ability for physical activity.
I practice non-eating everyday. In fact, I spend eight hours per day not eating or drinking anything at all! I do this overnight, when the prana channels are strongest. I do it while staying in a supine position so that my body can most easily absorb the earth's energy. I cover myself with a blanket so that the nutrients I absorbed from the sun during the day will be kept from escaping into the atmosphere. I also close my eyes to improve my meditation.
Lets humor the idea that they are telling the truth, that the human body does not need food. Wouldn't you have a moral obligation to share this with the less fortunate rather than charging exorbitant prices for secluded seminars?
I think that's part of why Naveena was trying to prove it, she mentioned at some point that if it worked, it could help starving people around the world. Although I don't think I can say the same of the other public figures in this video
You'd think. It's all a scam. Just like any other religious, spiritual self help or healing program or group. When the first person walks on stage and says "follow me, I will show you the way" they become a messiah in their own eyes. If this was possible there wouldn't be starving children in the deserts of 3rd world countries.
It's only cause ours have a lesser tendency towards suicide and isolation that it's notable. Also big state with lots of people some of which have too much time and money.
I guess we will ignore the clear Asian influence and origin, Jasmuheen being from Wales, and even one of the first recorded books of the subject being in French so we can continue the "California, amiright?" joke.
Tw: mentions of eating disorders but I’ve had ARFID off and on and I’ve actually had weeks where I literally COULDNT get myself to eat anything except green tea or Powerade. I had to force feed myself and I could only get down a few bites. I know what starvation feels like and no one understands why. I don’t understand why. Any smell would make me so nauseous. Looking at food made me gag. Like a literal visceral response. I was so hungry but there was a tightness in my stomach I began to find comforting. I know that feeling of needing to lay down. I almost wonder and worry if they had this similar kind of issue at times. That their bodies would have these times of rejection that are wildly uncomfortable and this was the explanation they came up with for themself. I didn’t know how sick I was getting, but I knew I didn’t feel very good. People still don’t even know that I almost died because of it. No one could understand that I just COULDNT eat. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t eat. I went to college for psychology just to try and figure that kind of stuff out I think lol. ARFID was thought until VERY recently to be something that only children could experience. Most likely it’s been an adult struggle for generations and can be misunderstood as possibly anorexia nervosa, but at least for me it was ONLY a physical response. I had the normal insecurities but I didn’t have the intrusive thoughts associated with anorexia. I just felt sick at the sight or smell of food. It was also believed for a long time that when people are in distress they will overeat in search of comfort. This is true for some and not true for others. Some are predisposed to a loss of appetite during distress. This can be associated with high stress, depression, anxiety issues, or at any time of heightened emotion.
Plants in my room are breatharians. I havent given them a single drop of water for 3 months and theyre obviously happy. Of course, their leafs turned yellow and fell off, but thats just normal side affect of getting used to it.
I can't believe that people fall for this...its so infuriating to know there are tons of bottom feeding scum who prey on the bewildered, lonely, sick, scared etc. There is one simple test to check... If she breathes in oxygen and out carbon dioxide then she is burning calories. A chemical reaction is happening. And that fuel has to come from somewhere. Food and then fat. Then organs. There is a great video on this that scientifically breaking it down...but the biggest proof was carbon dioxide. And don't worry about the nutcase saying you are 'sick'!! 😂 You are a rational, smart person who sees through the crap! Now I am off to I have a plate of scrambled fresh local free range (these hens are so happy... Ive met them!) eggs with real butter and creme fraiche with a splash of Tabasco, fresh ground pepper and some sea salt, toasted wholemeal thick sourdough bread, Apple wood smoked bacon crisped on my Foreman grill with some grilled sliced vine tomatoes... A spoon of Manuka honey(that has sort of crispy comb in it and is 250 level) and some nice black Arabica.
To think that during those famous wartime famines that drove people so mad they had to resort to cannibalism, whilst all they had to do was to re-align their prahnic energy.
I shamefully admit I know what going to sleep on an empty stomach feels like. To fall asleep and dream you're eating food. To sleep and dream you're being stabbed because the hunger pains in real life have manifested themselves into your subconscious sleeping mind. I meditate. I love soaking up the energy from the sun. But I also love food. These people have clearly never been forced to go without food.
I went to a breatharian retreat when I was struggling with my health. It was awful and the man claiming to be the breatharian example straight up ate food in front of us while we starved and became completely dehydrated. He claimed it to be 'training for temptation of food. His name is Ray Moar He just recently released a video stating that he has begun eating again. Due to stress.. which obviously is an admission that he has SCAMMED countless people into the prana retreats. He claims in these retreats if you learn to exist on Prana alone, you will never need food again. These people pray on desperation. Its a god complex illness, an eating disorder. But there is a cult like aspect.
@John S. That is baloney. Obviously, Brethairienism is wack, wrong, evil, and dangerous. That doesn’t mean all religions are. Everyone has a religion because we all know God exists. His existence is evident.

He isn't wrong, without food you get to die young instead. What a visionary.
Ironically I read it's actually breathing that causes aging, and not in a "haha get it you'll die if you don't breath" way.

It's essentially a religious equivalent of pro-ana.

While her health is declining and she's blaming her own mindset for it.

Thank you.
