Can you do a video explaining how and where the heat is going from the SSD? I see those two little notches on the long side of the SSD bay next to the fan, does heat dissipate through those little notches and then get pulled into the fan? Or is negative pressure pulling cool air into those notches and pushing it through another slot inside the bay?
I agree! Now a days, it feels like TH-camrs will spend 10 minutes talking about the history of why it took so long for Sony to release these specs, then 10 minutes talking about their history of opening console systems and how the PS5 differs from them, then 10 minutes talking about the advantages/disadvantages of Sony and Microsoft's way of upgrading their machines. Usually I already left in a few minutes looking for another video or do an internet search.

Replacing that metal cover after installing the SSD is very important as there are holes underneath in that SSD area that the PS5 fan will suck the heat out from the SSD keeping it cooler. I see many are purposely leaving the metal cover off thinking it will keep the SSD cooler this way... but that's a mistake. Sony has a system in place to keep the SSD cooler by removing the SSD heat but the metal cover needs to be on for this process to work properly.
It's not a mistake -_- leaving the cover off WILL make it run cooler obviously as heat rises and the fan will still take heat away from the unit. The lid is only to prevent it from collecting a ton of dust and nothing else. Many things are designed for aesthetics on Sonys consoles and not for performance, been that since the ps3 and this is no different.
@@Ardonn Right about the SSD cover keeping the dust out... but Wrong about leaving the cover off to keep cooler. To anyone thinking of leaving the metal housing plate off to accommodate heatsinks that come with certain SSDs, don't. Check the dimensions and order a custom heatsink that allows for the plate to be put back after installation of any SSD. SONY officialy states that this plate is there for a very good reason, and must be left on whether you use a SSD or not. The issue is really more so if you've been getting all of the plus games, and if you've been buying/already own PS4 games with PS5 upgrades, and if you've been renting PS5 games then you'll run out of space pretty quickly. Plus capture gallery stuff. In my case I'd like to get one now, but I'd rather move games back and forth from a $110 5TB drive then pay over $200 to barely get 2 TB.

From the few pictures and videos I’ve seen, im surprised some people don’t realize the spacer goes under the ssd, not above it. Glad this isn’t the case here
Happy to see how easy it is (as usual on PS). Reading stuff lately indeed made it look like this would be incredibly complicated, but that just refers to Sony refusing to make a list of makers/models that do work and not promising anything about any drive. Not the actual installation process itself. Given that it's still in beta I don't really get that aggressive critique.
this is really cool that sony allowed m.2 nvme ssds to be compatible so when you do go to pc you can also switch the drive over if you want too and if you live in a really cool or cold environment than you probably dont need a heatsink but if you live in a warm or hot environment get a heatsink

it is quite a differenece in price if you buy it with or without heatsink. Just bought the same one in Germany for about 100 € without the heatsink. For heatsink I had to pay about 8 €. However for the ssd with integrated heatsink I would have payed 60 € more.
I got a 2TB SN 850 with a heatsink on the WD website for $360 last night. I was happy to get that deal since on Amazon people were selling the same thing for over $700. I think I did well for myself.
As much as I want to expand the internal memory I don't think I can justify spending that much! It's making the console nearly a thousand pound machine, which is insane! High End Pcs cost that and all in all are probably better in terms of hardware! I'm a bit stunned to be fair! Think I'll wait till the prices drop!
Nice helpful video, just bought the sn850 with h/s (extra £10) from western digital site, saved 10% by signing up to newsletter first... finally no continuous removal of games when there's a CoD update!!!
I've ordered the same ssd, the 1TB option, with no heatsink. Got one separately, but THEN i realized that I'm not in the beta program. Good thing though, I got it with a good price, and I'll be ready when the time comes.
someone on youtube said it was so complicated to install it, but watching this video it doesn't look that complicated. But yeah the drivers are so expensive.
yea im not in a habit of jumping into different games at a time... I spend alot of time in a single game... complete it and then delete it to move on to another.. so not a big deal for me.. currently playing Persona 5 Royal
I'm glad you said the word "another" normally in the intro. For some reason everyone on youtube and beyond says "ay-nother" in videos even though no one pronounces it like that. Just a random thing that gets me. Really good video though, easy to understand and straight forward. Don't have a ps5 yet or enough money for ssds but good to know for the future when they're hopefully more affordable.

Yea I’ll wait too since I don’t play a lot of games at once and if I do then I can download them really fast because I have a great internet connection!
ps5 is worthless, all the games give me motion sickness haha
@@mikelisteral7863 use performance mode
@@mikelisteral7863 how’s that? What makes you get motion sickness from a PS5 game but not PS4 games? Have you turned off motion blur for these games?

Dude this was a great video. Ppl made it seem, that you had to take ps5 apart to add memory. Great work.
he's adding a hard drive, not memory.
Thanks for the video. I recently got the gen 4 WD Black 2 TB card and this video made is easy to install. Good lookin out.
Prices came down so much!
2tb wd sn850x (x is the newer, faster version) with heatsink is now 200$. 2x lower price!
i actually do not own a ps5 or any console in that matter but i am sure that one day i will buy a ps5 and will see this exact same video and install a 1tb m.2 ssd ..i actually watched the entire video..lots of love from india...really appreciate your content keep going.
Haha the saw at the end - brilliant. Still waiting to get a hold of the PS5 to be able to test it out before getting additional storage 😂
Thanks for watching too mat.e
Walmart had a restock
If you really need one you should follow Twitter accounts and discord servers that operate in your region and from there you should be able to go and get one form anywhere that’s available
Excellent tutorial. Straight to the point with clear, easy to follow instructions.
I just ordered the 1tb with heat sink as a birthday present for myself I can’t wait
Nice one! Good choice.
Hey is it worth buying a 2tb hard drive? I was thinking about buying it through the black Friday sale.
That’s what I’m planning to do for my ps5 I wanna buy more ps5 games
Do it!🎉
@@DeadManeWolf do it ! I totally agree! Had my hands on ps5 for over a year, I recommend everything
Thank you Man. Getting a 2tb SSD next week
this is really cool that sony allowed m.2 nvme ssds to be compatible so when you do go to pc you can also switch the drive over if you want too and if you live in a really cool or cold environment than you probably dont need a heatsink but if you live in a warm or hot environment get a heatsink
Great video mate. Not planning to upgrade my digital though. The on board storage is more than enough for me, at least for now. I usually delete games that i finish so, overall, no need an extra storage boost
it appears SpawnPoiint does a lot of videos thinking what other might need/think/wonder... very helpful... watching this made me just get the get sink separate and save some $$ ... :) great content
it is quite a differenece in price if you buy it with or without heatsink.

Thanks A LOT for this video bro. Just ordered exactly what you have.. You saved me soooo much money.
Good choice mate!
Great video! I went for the 2tb Samsung and your guide was excellent 👍 Thanks a lot. Love the black PS5 plates!
That ending shot had me laughing hard asl 😂
haha cheers mate
Thats what people think building a PC takes 😂
As much as I want to expand the internal memory I don't think I can justify spending that much! It's making the console nearly a thousand pound machine, which is insane! High End Pcs cost that and all in all are probably better in terms of hardware!
I'm a bit stunned to be fair! Think I'll wait till the prices drop!
I’ll give you the money. What’s your address?

Nice helpful video, just bought the sn850 with h/s (extra £10) from western digital site, saved 10% by signing up to newsletter first... finally no continuous removal of games when there's a CoD update!!!
That’s awesome mate
I've ordered the same ssd, the 1TB option, with no heatsink.
Got one separately, but THEN i realized that I'm not in the beta program.
Good thing though, I got it with a good price, and I'll be ready when the time comes.
Yeah, I feel like this point should be emphasized more. You shouldn't buy the SSD until you've registered and been accepted for the beta.
Great job at being clear and explaining everything in detail! This answered every question a person would have about the drive and how to install it.
Thank you mate

I’m completely fine with 500GB with heatsink! I’m sold
Thanks for the how-to, mate!
Just dropped the 2TB into my PS5!
Cheers!
That ending though 😂👊🏼
haha, I wonder how many will stay for the outro...
What people think it takes to opgrade the storage
Those are in case you need to shape the SSD into the slot 😆
Mom, Dad, grandma, grandad I hope you are watching this for Timmie! Or get the "X" plug play at highspeed.
hahaha
You forgot that Mom took Timmie to soccer practice.
this video was amazing thank you for the info will be looking in to getting a 2tb or 4 TB SSD very soon
I definitely want that 4TB for sure.
Solid video fella thanks I was a bit worried about buying a heat sink but you kept it simple no adds or nothing thanks
Haha thanks
Great video/review/tutorial. Gold standard of how a youtube DIY video should be.
Thank you
happy with the original storage... that ending though 😂
hah thanks mate
Yes... Super thrilled with only being able to store 5 games on internal storage...
yea im not in a habit of jumping into different games at a time... I spend alot of time in a single game... complete it and then delete it to move on to another.. so not a big deal for me.. currently playing Persona 5 Royal
Will probably be adding a 1TB drive once it's available to us non-beta folks!
Same here!!
@Bryce Czirr have you looked at the prices for 2tb nvme gen4 tho
I hope this was useful. If you do install an SSD, would you buy one with or without the heatsink (and fit your own)?

Definitely getting one with a heatsink, unless if I can find a better reviewed third party heatsink.
Great video. I ordered the 2TB Western Digital SN850 SSD.
Need to find a ps5 first then I can think of upgrading
